I have a pair of the Arendal 1723 Monitor in my 2 channel system and I love them! I've had quite a few speakers priced between 1k to 5k and the Arendal's are my personal favorite! After you've had multiple speakers at different price levels it's really shocking that they're priced the way they are.
I ordered these speakers last week and rewatched your very positive review to sort of reinforce my decision. In your review you said they were the perfect speaker for you and that you would not be replacing them anytime soon. And then I read in the comments that you had indeed replaced them after only a few months!
Went through several 1723 S reviews on YT. Came across yours, and honestly, this review is by far my favorite. You covered several good points that other reviewers did not mention (e.g. the positioning of the tower tweeters to align with the center tweeter for better panning). Subscribed.
Great review! I spoke with an Arendal rep before I bought my 1723 S Towers, and after telling him my room size, he told me the S series was best. Having purchased the 1723 S towers with the regular 1723 center, I can tell you the 1723's would have been overkill for my room, because the 1723 S towers with the 1723 center and 2 SVS SB-3000 subs are insane. Takes movies to a new level in my home theater. Running a 5.2.4 surround with a Marantz Cinema 50.
Funny, you almost have the same setup that Im building. I just placed the order for the 1723 s towers and center speaker this afternoon.. I also have the Marantz cinema 50 which arrived yesterday. The one difference is I have dual PB4000s. I originally ordered pb3000s but the dealer called me the next day and said there was an error in their system and the PB3000s were back ordered. He offered me the SB4000s at no extra cost but I really wanted ported subs so I asked him if he'd give me a deal on dual PB4000s, which he did. I saved $1000 on them! 🥳😮🥳 How big is your room? Mine is 23x15 but it's a bit odd because half of the room is an addition and has cathedral ceilings wheres the other half has regular height ceilings. Not sure how it'll effect my audio. What are you using for your sides and rears? I plan to purchase mine at a later date. Already spent to much money this week lol
I also have the 1723s towers and 2x svs sb3000. Planning to buy 1723s center in some time. I really like the 1723s and svs how i can integrate them together.
Awsome review! So detailed and honost. Thanks!! Do you still have them? Question: i have the focal bathys and find them a lot more transparant/detailed than my monitor audio silver 300 s7. Do you think i will get bathys level of detail/transparancy when I upgrade to the 1723s? next to that more dynamics and better imaging as well right? Thanks a lot for your reviews! Cheers.
Thank you! I actually do not have these speakers anymore. I'll be doing a video soon on my updated setup. Sorry, Im not familiar with those other speakers you mention.
@@hifihometheater looking forward to your review of them. I just bought the 1723s center upgrading from a 3 way monitor aufio silver center. Just wow, So much better. Completely different league
I'm looking at these and the martin logan xt f100, the f100 is a full 3 way, with interesting tweeter build and bottom port and I have small room. I will be paring with svs sb3000 so not worried about low bass.
Great question. The main reason was because my kids and their friends use this space a lot and I was afraid one of their friends would knock the monitors off the stand and then they would have to go missing, I mean, I would not be happy lol
I am thinking of getting these or the taller ones. I have the CXN V2 Streamer, and the CXA81 amplifier from Cambridge. What are your recommendations on upgrades? Mainly, amps. Thanks !! Paul
I am a fan of Class-D amps from Hypex or Purify. Buckeye Amps is a great, no frills option. Apollon Audio is a good choice for something more aesthetically pleasing.
Very interesting review. Im struggeling between the 5 x Monitors of the non S and the 2 towers and 3 monitors in a 24qm living room with an 9 qm dining room extension. With what is said the 5x monitors are better with a 60hz crossover in home theater?
Thats hard to say. I have not heard the 1961's but the reviews are all good. If you have room for the 1961's you probably have room for the 1723 S's. I think it comes down to your listening levels . If you listen at modest levels and want to minimize the speaker footprint in the room, the 1961 would fit the bill. If you are OK with a bit larger speaker and want to get closer to reference level listening, I would lean towards the 1723's. Tough call call but I think you would be happy either way.
Any chance you can test the center off axis performance when the listening positions are in a three seat sofa, about six feet away. I guess the angles to outer listening positions are at 30-35? degrees. How does the sound change, when moving around at six feet?
Audioholics reviewed the 1723 S tower which has vertical measurements that should be the same as the center channel horizontal. I think it would be interesting to do some real life listening at that distance though so I will put it on my list.
@@hifihometheater I am looking into the Arendal’s now,I have Ascend Sierra-LX's and I like them alot but I want something bigger and with narrower directivity.
@@JACT1101 Assuming you are using subs, and can accommodate their size, I would recommend the big 1723 monitors. Thats what I was going to upgrade to before the Martin Logans came out. One of the things I liked best about the Arendals is that they have good directivity without going too narrow so they still give off the "air" I like with music.
i'm a total novice when it comes to electronics. can some one please explain why on the back of the speakers the top two connections ,says 8 ohms and the bottom says 4 ohms . in the tech section the speakers are rated at 4 ohms. Thanks
this is only important if you remove the jumper plates and bi-wire or bi-amp the speakers. In this case, the high frequency drivers will be a 8 Ohm load to that separate amplifier and the low frequency drivers will be a 4 Ohm load. When used normally, with the jumper plates in place, the whole speaker is rated as a 4 Ohm load. Hope this helps
I think these would be more than enough for that size room but also not so big where they take over the space visually. You may also want to check out the smaller 1961 series. It just depends on your listing habits and budget but I think you could be happy with either one.
@@nareshbhattarai304 If its the video Im thinking of with the real time graph, he wasn't using bass management. The 1723 S is ported and tuned to 46Hz and the 1961 is sealed so of course, the 1723 S is going to sound bigger. I bet if they are both properly integrated with subs and crossed at 80Hz, the difference would be more subtle. I obviously can recommend the 1723 S but I have never heard the 1961's so I cant say for sure how much better or worse one is but I doubt the 1961 center sucks and I definitely would not judge it based on that video alone.

What about the bookshelf version with a sub? Is it as good as the tower?
Depends on your use and how good your tower locations are for bass. Objectively, I would pick the monitors with subs
