Just noticed the Ghost as small eyebrows (?) showing emotion or strain while when the Hollow Knight ahows up and rolls it doesn’t have any. I’m just saying the Ghost was in the pile of rejects for emotions while the Hollow Knight got his role by hiding his emotions. Regardless in the end this animations is Nice 👌

Correction , *The Knight* would be a preferred name , also , this is very nice , as a HK fan , I'm more than grateful to the person who made this!
Me silently dying on the inside because The Hollow Knight is the one that feels emotions and The Knight is the one that doesn’t feel emotions, the whole point of the non secret ending of the game is literally that that makes The Knight a suitable vessel and he needs to replace The HK.
(I didn’t say this to be a critic, I just have OCD and needed to get this off my chest)

Is hard to tell on first glance but the horns are those of young hollow knight that are different then the player character.
That is why in the end, the one on the left turns into the hollow knight and the one the right turns into...

At first I thought he was tumbling down and couldn't stop, but around the 1:30 mark, I realised it's a controlled decent. He's kicking off, spinning and catching himself.

I love how the knight gradually learns to control the roll! Like it starts as panicked fumbling, and then they’re doing acrobatic stunts. Beautiful work you made here!

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! I can tell you but so much time and effort into it!! The movements are so smooth and fluid and I love all the details you added!!! Every character looks fantastic and I’m just blown away!!!
I do have to admit, I did essentially copy it all from the rolling girl animation meme. it was nice practice tho and I snuck in a few extra details ;)

Oh wow. I laughed because I thought this was funny before I remembered just how dark the game is.
Whenever I noticed that THK wasn't showing any emotion like Ghost was in this animation it made me extremely sad, remembering that they had to suppress their emotions and keep from emoting so they wouldn't be thrown down into the abyss with their less fortunate siblings.
And ghost! How long did they spend down in the abyss? They must've been trapped in there for ages before they found an exit. It's shameful how the Pale King just discarded his children like that.

He was desperate. He was besieged on all sides by a force he couldn't combat. So he turned to the one sure thing he had. The progeny to be. How could he know his goal was doomed from the start by the very methods he used to try and succeed? I think those discarded children were not resentful, but mournful they could not live up to his expectations. That they could not lift the despair from him. And perhaps he knew this. A terrible burden indeed. We can see he did bear some affection for them in his memory. How oppressive his own fear and guilt must have been, especially at the end.
The song is depressing too, so there's no problem I guess

The work put into those paintings from 1:50 to 2:20 is absolutely amazing! They look so beautiful and have such an amazing atmosphere to them, that shot of Ghost looking up to the top of the Abyss and the stained glass mural are both stunning. The amount of love and care put into this animation is amazing.

He uses a program called Vocaloid which is a vocal synthesizer that turns various sounds from people into voice banks that can be turned into different songs. Rolling girl is one of wowaka’s most popular songs. but he died of heart failure in 2019

Honestly I loved this so much. The detail of strain being showed, expecially since the Knight is a impure vessel, mainly because they have a will to live. And just in total this is a beautiful piece. As you said in your discription, was there things to improve? Oh always, even high end production artists have room to improve, but that did not take away from the amazing piece.

I love the little detail here of how the knight on the left, presumably the hollow knight, doesn't express any of the little signs of emotion that ghost does. Endlessly holding back everything.

ivy Talks ah oops, missed your comment for a whole month? it’s 8 fps for almost all of it. tbh it feels a tad slow, so if you want to do something similar and don’t mind doing all the extra work, you should knock it up a few frames

I’ve been a part of the hollow knight community since the beginning, it’s been a joy to watch it grow
big dad lucky. The first time i ever even heard about hk was when my brother dropped in in front of me about a year ago when i was trying to finish a book for an essay due in a few days
I thought this was the night falling into hollownest at first.
I saw this video and thought "Hey. Some cute Hollow Knight characters rolling." And while I did get that, it was so so much better than I thought. Loved it.
I think using a song that is upbeat but actually really dark is very fitting for a Hollow Knight crossover. And the animation is soo good
I knew what this was going to be when I saw the title, and I was not disappointed. I do like the song for the original rolling girl better though

i came here from instagram when i was checking the hollow knight tag and,,, i enjoyed this so much, rolling girl is one of my favorite musics and hollow knight is also my fav game, so for me its the perfect combination

i am, it's been about two months since i started my last project. I tend to work in bursts in the beginning and get really tired of it near the end, so it takes quite a while for me to actually make longer (1+ minute) animations

I like how this is slightly slower than most rolling girl animations, because I would imagine horns would greatly impede rolling speed.
