    I went to a local watch store to get a Samurai. Saw a few versions, all next to the turtle, and the PADI turtle was the one I kept eyeing. The shape doesn't look as comparatively attractive as the Samurai in pictures online, but on wrist it's just perfect. Changed my mind immediately. It's crazy how things change when you see this thing in person.

    Great video as always. My sister has a dog that is addicted to tennis balls and if you throw a bunch at him at the same time he goes crazy trying to get them all in his mouth at the same time. That pretty much sums up my relationship with Seiko dive watches.

    Beautiful watch and you've matched it up fantastically well with the Jubilee bracelet. Love what you've done with the laser etching too. Thanks for the inspirational video.

    Great video! I own a Tag Monaco, SEL, and Rolex BLNR and tried this on last week and fell in love with it. Watching your video put me over, I always wanted a Grand Seiko, but this spoke to me as a diver and I'm so excited! The Padi etching on the bracelet is first class! It gives the watch a heightened awareness!

    Great review. Just bought a PADI. Love it. Rock solid Bezel as well - no slop. My Daily beater. And that dial. Love it. Such a great bang for buck piece. No Rolex Submariner but for its price point and build quality, just unbeatable.

    Very nice watch. I am proud owner of one.
    And his original bracelet is really great, only damage is not 22/18 mm.
    He also has a super jubilee bracelet but for the skx model.
    Super video, greetings..

    G'day mate, just came across your channel, and really enjoying your videos. I have had a 007J for a few years now, and loved the PADI when it came out, but couldn't justify the cost. Was on holiday in Hawaii this year, and Macy's happened to have a sale that brought it down to $320, and I couldn't resist! Absolutely adore it.

  • @raksh9
    @raksh9 6 лет назад +1

    There is something deeply 'vintage feeling' about a classic Seiko diver on a jubilee bracelet. 6309s or new SRP turtle divers on jubilee look insane, especially with a Pepsi bezel.

    My PADI bezel action is the same. I am not sure if they are different than the non-PADI version but it is very easy to turn. Also, I was lucky to have mine lined up with the minute markers perfectly.

  • @TitoCanuso

    Outstanding piece. I upgraded the crystal to a sapphire, also replaced the bezel insert to a porcelain that glows like the watch markers and mounted a Crater Blue vulcanized rubber strap, these straps are fitted for the turtle models and the quality is better than the factory. My favorite watch!

  • @bout129

    I agree on the hands...I am going to change them asap and I think I will love the watch even more! I ordered the strapcodes Super Oyster with the adjustable clasp because of all the bad reviews on the original bracelet. It arrived at the same time as the watch and I immediately put it on and its awesome and I have absolutely no complaints! The engraving was a great idea and looks amazing so... I am gonna copy you ;)

    Hey Bruce, nice video.... again. I have the same PADI as well as 8 other Seiko Divers. The bezel on this one is the stiffest of all my Seiko's, but I'm ok with it. That minute hand mod would look nice as well. I'm OK with my stock bracelet, but the laser insignia you customized your bracelet is completely awesome! Very nice

    • @BruceWilliams

    I just purchased this watch two weeks ago and received it in the mail. I too have loved it for a long time and I’m now proud to own it. The beveled sculpted curves of this watch make it by far one of the best watches to wear as far as I’m concerned. Thank you very much for your video and your review. I found it very interesting and I concur much with your opinions about the lodge. I don’t know a whole lot about what’s new for 2018 or 19 But do you know of any? Otherwise thanks again for your great review I appreciated watching it.

    Picked my Pepsi turtle yesterday had my eyes on one for a while, got a Black Friday deal on it. I'm in love, is it better than my seamaster? Let's give it a few weeks, but as I write, it's real close.
    Date just bracelet, French day option, just got to the bit when you slate the bracelet lol. Love the small contact area on the wrist. Great balance weight & feel when wearing. Get one if you have the chance, you won't regret it

  • @analogman1496

    gf got me a sto black coated turtle for xmas this year and it's absolutely gorgeous. My first automatic is an Orient and I never understood my friend's infatuation with his Seiko 5 Sport...
    I now get it. You kinda have to find that Seiko that fits your persona. For me it was the Turtle and I think I'm gonna start collecting them.

  • @LarryGanz
    @LarryGanz 8 лет назад +1

    My PADI Turtle is impressive - I have several Omega and Rolex, and the Seiko is built like a decent low-end Swiss watch. Not as nice as my Grand Seiko diver though, but I like the bezel's tactile response, the sunburst dial, & the quality of the raised markers, etc. It fits me well, and runs only +1 sec/day. Maybe the Day/Date could be better.

  • @Lee_K_5555
    @Lee_K_5555 8 лет назад

    Excellent review as usual, Bruce! I have a 773 blue dial Turtle and have to say that I am really surprised at how much I like this watch after convincing myself when it first came out that I did not like cushion cases. I echo your commentary about the pluses and minuses, although it appears to me that your dial suffers the same alignment issue that mine does: the index at 6 o'clock is very slightly offset to the right. Mine is a good millimeter off, yours (trying to stop the video when it's dead-on to the camera was a challenge) appears to be about a 1/2 millimeter. No big deal to me and I don't notice it in day-to-day wear, but we read so much in watch forums about Seiko quality control lacking in alignment issues of the chapter ring, dial, and bezel that it probably made me hypersensitive to the issue. Still, the Turtle is a worthy successor to the 6309 and in my opinion a much needed upgrade from the SKX series.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  8 лет назад

      Thanks. Yes, my alignment is just a little bit off. It looks pretty good at the 12 with the bezel lined up so it doesn't really bother me. Its loads better than the 775 I had. That thing was ridiculously off!

    I bought one. It’s my “exit watch”. I got the Citizen Tough after watching your video and jokingly you chose a Monster over the Tough. I followed suit and got the SRPA21. Haha. Anyway, my bezel is a bit stiff but not bad. I found my SRPA21 in a local shop for $290 tax included as the display model. It had a few scratches in the polished sides but who cares? Can you verify that the 4r36 has a Spron mainspring? I was looking at a few articles that said the Spron is on the 6r and not the 4r series. I’m not sure if that’s accurate or not. I had my local watchmaker put a double domed AR coated sapphire crystal on mine 2 weeks ago. It totally raises the bar on how awesome this watch is. It passed the 200m pressure test with flying colours he said. Next is going to be a Strapcode Engineer II bracelet.

  • @blazel462
    @blazel462 3 года назад

    The ‘dislikes’ are actually Seikos version of conformity to the ISO 6425 standard.
    For example, the hour and minute hand must be clearly different, the second hand must indicate that the watch is actually working by either a large tail illumination or illuminated tip.
    The hour indices are round, so I guess they were concerned that having the second hand marking on the other side may create confusion.
    If you mod it, you will be breaking the ISO certification.
    This is a nice watch, it may be my next Seiko. ~4 years after this video, the pepsi PADI is now the SRPE99.

    Very cool custom bracelet engraving Bruce. Love the jubilee on the turtle. I think it suits the more vintage looking srp775. Seriously thinking of getting one for mine. Maybe it is the angles but does your padi have a slighty misaligned chapter ring? imho I do not think the padi will go up in value since they are still producing them. I have seen them as low as $265 for the k version(without made in japan on dial)

    Awesome video man. I almost picked up the PADI, but the shop I went to had the SRP775 there, and after looking at them both I went for the 775. Both are gorgeous watches and luckily I found one with proper alignment with the chapter ring and bezel

    I had a 773(blue version) and was very happy with it . Anyways , I bought this even though I wasn't really into Pepsi style bezels at the time , Id figure Id give it a try since everyone was raving about it . Long story short , I kept the Padi , and flipped my 773 . For me , the bezel action was exactly the same , though . Awesome bracelet and fantastic review as always, Bruce !

      Joe Sax that's awesome to hear. I was a little apprehensive myself at first. Thinking it would be a try and flip thing but not anymore. It's so nice, love it!

    I have stated to look at these Seikos and like dog catching the balls analogy I m in the same situation, so i like to ask you a question, is there a difference bet wing ( Japan Movement and Made in Japan??. Can you make a suggestion on a Model Seiko divers watch that's made in Japan?

    • @FatSamEIE
      @FatSamEIE 6 лет назад

      Google it and you will see years of debate/arguments but the J version is slightly more expensive and some people think it's better quality while others think buying low end seikos is a crap shoot and it's all luck!
      Having bought pretty much every seiko diver in the last few years I still don't know!

    Great Review, and your watch looks Fabulous....The Strapcode bracelet definitely gives it a better look, like a Vintage seiko. How do you feel the Strapcode bracelet compares with the Seiko branded Jubilee, in quality? I have several of those lying around, along with several Watchadoo Mesh bracelets, which are of very good quality. Thanks for a good review. I will be purchasing a SRPA21 in the next few days, mostly due to your review.. I may try it on an extra Marine Master bracelet I have, love that quick reverse extension...

    Nice Padi, love the strap. You mention Long Island Watch a nice upgrade to it would be a ceramic bezel and domed or double domed Saphire crystal which they can do for you. Would be how I would/ will order mine especially given as how the hardlex is one of the things that keeps knocking this or a std sumo off my list. Frankly at retail $ this should come stock with a saphire crystal.

    Hi, had mine a few months now and the bezel is super smooth. Such a great watch, in my view the best value for money watch released last year. Have you sold your Marinemaster?

    All the neo-Turtles are great, but the PADI stands out, protrudes the fuck out really, among them all. And, while the differences are exclusively aesthetic as you said, these are some significant-ass aesthetic differences.
    Seiko forever does itself a disservice by skimping on its bracelets. Their finishing, even on their rolled-steel link bracelets, is quite good, but the materials themselves will often leave devotees forlorn. Their stamped/pressed metal segments for the diver's extension and the folding parts of the clasp, e.g., on bracelets ranging from Monsters, to BFKs, Turtles, Sumos, etc., on bracelets that are otherwise largely faultless, having solid links that are relatively impeccably finished, are perennially a source of frustration. That Strap Code bracelet, with what appear to be all solid/milled pieces, including the clasp itself, does the watch better justice.
    As said, all the Turtles are great, but that PADI Turtle is something else, and quite the significantly fuck much more. You seem quite chuffed, and I hope that you won't allow yourself to be convinced by anyone else to become any less chuffed.
