Love my SRP777! I was able to snag it for $300 (thanks, Macy's) and it has been my beater watch of choice for some time now. I like it much more than the SKX I had for a few years. I find it more comfortable and I like how unique it looks. Also, it wears great on my flat 6.5" wrist. I wish it had sapphire but for $300 I'm not going to complain.
I've got 6.75 in . Wrist think it would work ?

How’s the accuracy?
@@2K9s When I first got it, it was running at -4 sec/day. It’s over a year old now, I’ve really put it through the wringer, and it’s running at roughly -12 sec/day. Still very than any of the 6R’s that I’ve picked up over the past year.
Bought my SRPE93 on sale for $310 start April this year. I have worn it everyday since - shift it with other watches to, but it is on my wrist >8 hours everyday.
It hasn’t run out at any time and I haven’t reset it since day one and it’s 20 seconds fast now!
Everything lines up perfectly, I’m satisfied.
I much prefer this classic black turtle to the other colours and even the Kings, this is quintessential Seiko to me.
I have a white-dialed king Samurai with ceramic and sapphire which suits the Samurai very well.
If I could only keep one of my 11 Japanese watches ($120-$1000) it would be this Turtle, love this watch so much!
I just pulled the trigger on this one today. This will be my first Seiko.
I have the SRPE93 quite some time now. To me, the best watch I own. It seems to be just right and it's "only $400"! My collection includes/included Rolex, Panerai, IWC, Omega. So let that sink in.
The only thing I don't like is the lumed marker @3, so I ordered the "old" SRP777 dial to replace it and install a Japanese day disc for fun.
If you want a real tool watch with A True connection to history,this is the one!
Fantastic video on a Seiko legend. Initially I was not a fan of the Turtle 🐢 and then my twin brother gifted me a Padi Turtle for my birthday 🥳. Well I’m still and always will love my SKX009 but my view on the turtle has definitely changed. The Turtle is an amazing 🤩 Seiko watch 👍🏻💯
I have a Black Manta SRPF77 and man the dial is TO DIE FOR. I get it you want a simple beater but the King Turtle Manta is GORGEOUS
In the 1980s I wore through many an original Swiss Made Tropic Sport band on my Seiko Turtle 6309-7040 Sanwa dial, resulting from countless hours of exposure to salt, sun, and chlorine. I would purchase the Tropic Sport bands because they were a fraction of the price of the genuine Seiko bands of the time.
Back then I was convinced that one day the world would surely come to love and appreciate the extreme comfort, legibility, utility, and toughness of the Turtle - and the world has.
Well done world, this is a perfect watch.
Today the 6309-7040 is looking great and running perfectly, and it has a new flat Z22 Seiko strap.
I have the SRPC91, the first Save the Ocean dial. The way it catches light is something else. I also put mine on a black tropic rubber. It's a great everyday watch and still looks good after 4 years of ownership.

Just snagged a boxed 777 for £90 online like new. Didn’t know much about Turtles other than I collect Seiko’s and it was too good to pass up… it’s AMAZING! The quality and the weight, the retro look. I jumped on the SKX bandwagon and honestly the 007 is old junk. I moved it on instantly. This is the low-key collectable for Seiko and Dive watch enthusiasts hands down!

Few months ago, I got one for around USD 230 for the SRPE93K version in Indonesia. although it is not the "Made in Japan" version, it still has a good quality, and everything is aligned perfectly!!! The moment I got this watch, I placed a 31mm round tempered glass on the top of the hardlex crystal, and also changed the bezel insert to ceramic.
Since then this is my full time daily beater
so where was this one made Harper? I have one on the way from Tokopedia

I was the same. But came to appreciate vintage quartz Seiko such as the 7c43 movement. Meant to be serivced and very robust, these were more expensive than mechanical Seiko's back in the day.

Perfect timing bro. I just got my first ever turtle about 5 weeks ago. I have 3 already. I love them. They fit great, large visible dial, very comfy and can mod and change including sapphire. Got 2 more on the way. A lot of fun.

Agree with you 100%, when I wear my sbdy015, it stays on my wrist for 3- 4 days. I do appreciate all the upgrades, the shiny, blingy looks, but at the end of the day I go back to the basic, essential tool manly men's watch.
I hope to buy this because it's a classic. Also because I like aluminum bezels because of how they age. Under $400 for this baby is a bargain. Would not be suprised if these will be ca. $1,000 in a decade if they get discontinued.

In 1989, a NEW Rolex 5513 Submariner would have cost £695 in the UK. A Omega Speedmaster Professional was similarly priced. I don’t use my Speedmaster or SMP ceramic anymore, because they are worth more now than when I bought them brand new. I just want a mechanical watch I can wear everyday and not worry about scratching it! This Seiko looks to be the ideal watch for that purpose.
Bro, in the 90's when I worked in the mall I used to go to the Rolex auth dealer there. I was in love with the Rolex Sub 2 tone gold/SS with the bright royal blue dial. It was about $5,999. The stainless sub without gold was $3k something.
Thanks for the review. From skx back to the 7002. The stem and case design was actually prone to water damage regardless sooner than most models unless serviced regularly. Add onto that an unimpressive 7s26 housed in mostly tropical climates.. I must say. The turtle and turtle design has become unmatched in these ways. Most 7002s will be damaged relatively after 10 to 15 yrs. Regardless of how intentional the water play. 6309 to the srpe93. Game changer. I'll wear my black turtles forever. Easy on the movement. It simply isn't a workhorse as its put off to be. One good smack will render the 4r useless. 2824 is still a league above this 4r. But w less maintenance. High lume. Legible dial. History. No brainer .
I had this watch back in 1979 when it wasn't even called a turtle. It was an automatic way during the era when most Seikos were quartz watches.

I have a SRP773J1 with English/Arabic days of the week. I recently had a black Islander ceramic bezel insert installed. The subtle contrast makes my watch pop. My chapter ring is perfectly aligned. So is my Sea Urchin. Bought both watches from online dealers in Singapore.
I always thought that a Seiko watch made in Japan iwould say “Japan” on bottom of dial NOT “Made in Japan” which I was under impression were watched made in Malaysia
I have the deep blue dial one shipped from Japan so it has the kanji date and the made in Japan markings got it about 2 weeks ago and hasn’t left my wrist during the day

I definitely favor the simple, matte black legibility for a tool watch, but I’m on the fence between this and the Anthracite dial, since that one doesn’t have the lume plot at 3 (like the 777). It would be pretty cool if they could just lume the date wheel.
UPDATE- I got a strap from Uncle turtle and its awesome. Good thing about the turtle it looks great on any strap. And BTW long island watch is where I got my Seiko.

Neh, I bought the SPB153 (green Willard-X) and the SPB239 (62MAS "cappuccino"). I almost bought the SPB313 (6105-descendant), came out too late.
Currently second guessing my order of a SRPE35, while I wait for it to ship. Wondering if I should have gone the Turtle route instead. I do, however, already own a Willard, which is why I initally gravitated towards a King Samurai.

I have the K1 model with perfect alignment. First Seiko on mine that's straight. I love this reissue. No back play on the bezel and best Seiko silicone strap I've ever worn.
The PADI version, for as far as I know, was manufactured by Japan and some other Asian country (where I can't remember correctly). The Japan made one has Chinese date wheel. However, it was never sold in Japan market.
All Seikos except Grand Seiko and MM300 are made in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Japanese labelling laws that allow that dial print to be said in Japan, but other countries don’t allow it. The reason they do it is because of the marketing angle that Made in Japan must be better.
If they were really made in Japan they wouldn’t be cheap watches!
Fantastic Turtle! I bought a SRP777 a few years ago. I wear it somewhat. However I added a low profile Dagaz bezel and a Uncle Seiko waffle rubber strap. Looks vintage with the mods I added. I really wish Seiko made these without a day/date complication. If I can find a aftermarket dial that looks just like this OEM dial. I’ll swap it in. I think a time only Turtle will be the Seiko to own.

I like the Turtle a lot but I like the SKX case a bit more so instead of buying a Turtle I bought the SRPD55 (Seiko 5 sports) and modded it to SKX specs :D
I notice that the ones made in Japan lineup , my dark manta ray turtle made in Japan it lines up perfectly. I’m getting this one next as my everyday Watch .
I got mine just now, the K version made in Malaysia. It lines up perfectly 💯
The only Seikos made in Japan are Grand Seiko and MM300. Everything else, including all J and K versions are made in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. There's no QC difference because they come from the same factory, just have a different label.

@@Rickky007 Yes even those ones aren’t made in Japan unfortunately. These watches wouldn’t be cheap if they were. All the low to mid range without exception are assembled in Seiko factories in Asia from materials made in China. Japan has interesting labelling laws that allow that print in Japan, whereas other countries don’t. The reason they do it is because of the perception that ‘Made in Japan’ is associated with quality.
None of this means they aren’t well made, because they really are for the price.

I'd still go for the SRP777J1, that little blot next to the day/date window messes up the dial symmetry for me. That's all theoretical in any case as I own the SRP775J1 and I truly believe it's the best looking turtle re-issue, in my eyes anyway.

I really wanted to like the Tropic strap, but the holes are too far apart and I cannot get a good fit. It is always either too tight to too lose. Went back to Barton Elite for that reason.

Why is the luminous Dot upside down on the second hand, i.e. in the shorter part of the belly? It can be awkward to see exactly where the second hand is at that moment. As much as I love to get a Seiko I cant justify the cost. Steeldive give you saphire glass and the same quality. Its not perfect but surprising neither is Seiko

This watch is amazing , I’ve worn it a month straight for forgot all about my skx007. The power reserve and accuracy are insane! I set the time once a month ago and it hasn’t stopped moving and still spot on accurate vs my iPhone. My skx I would need to adjust back 3 min once a week. I wear this every day surfing diving , wrenching on stuff. Marc really took care of me and verified the alignment. Wears much better on an uncle Seiko strap, I don’t like the stock one, the buckle flares out like a coy boy belt and the wavy strap catches your shirt sleeve. The metal keeper I think clashes with the rubber. It’s great you can swap the stap so easy, it’s such a pain on the skx.

Same here. After weeks of looking between the Turtle and the Samurai (both roughly the same price) when asked by the wife to "choose now" I chose the Turtle. This will be my first Seiko so I am very nervous if I made the right choice. 7.5inch wrist as well so I know the 45 is going to be fine.

Pay slightly more for the SRPE03 with sapphire and ceramic bezel...... although you might dislike the cyclops. I paid $411 on ebay from a reliable seller.
The Steel dive And the Addiesive have A ceramic Bezel and SAPHIRE crystal also with an NH 35 Movement which is the same movement. as the SRP 777 but for non Seiko Watches!

@@ScoobieDoobie197474 it never prompted me, those are always third party apps from credit card processing agencys, they normally only target what they'd consider higher risk purchase attempts. From working within e commerce during my day job, I know they can sometimes flag risk in odd ways. You should try calling in, those tools will typically have some at least high level message covering the risk identified.
Uuugggghhhh….. I see Seiko still can’t align a chapter ring. The whole chapter ring needs to be rotated clockwise. I do love the look of the full size turtles though, especially the dial with day/date in the standard black colourway. Unfortunately way too big for my 6.5” wrist. Mini-turtles for me all day long… Just bought an SBDY085 to pair with my 3.5 year old SRPC39.

Depends, but for me the King is a great all arounder more on the dressy side, while maybe you could make this classic one, more of a daily beater type to really enjoy.

I may be wrong but Seiko watches actually made in Japan indicate only the word “Japan” on bottom of dial not “made in Japan “ … made in Japan I believe means assembled under supervision and direction of a Seiko rep… I believe those watches are made in Malaysia

@@CaptainWillard830 just from my years of watching Seiko reviews … for example my Seiko SBDC051 indicates on dial “Japan” and I bought it directly from Seiya Japan watches a Japanese watch site it sold as a JDM model.
Exactly watches this cheap are never made in Japan. They do this to adress the people that just have to have a Japan version when in reality it is made in Asia somewhere.
If ya gonna collect a turtle then its gotta be an original --this is just yet another re run....btw its 'based on' not 'off of' !

The point is your question is like asking how many people who wear running shoes actually run marathons, it doesn't really matter, people wear what they like and don't need to justify their choices. I personally wear Nike Air Jordan 1's prominently, and I don't play basketball in them. Technology has moved on but the aesthetic is classic... Kind of like with dive watches, most divers commercial drivers today are wearing dive computers, while mechanical divers are mostly for hobbyist and folks that just appreciate the aesthetic and capabilities, while never needing to put them to the test.
