@@robalexander7348 hope it's aligned properly. Let me know how you like it. I'm so tempted but I'm kinda on a Seiko diver kick since I bought an SBDC 051 a few months back.
Ive sold all my watches, bought this Seiko Reissue and now it's my one and only daily wear 🤷♂️ it might be something I pass down to my grandkids as well.
The 6105 Slim was Seiko’s first main stream diver. They only did the 62MAS before which wasn’t really mainstream. After the slim 6105 they came out with the larger 6105 brother, then it was the 6309, 6309 Slim, 7548 quartz, 7002 and 7S26 (SKX) to the modern era.
Stuck between the SPB317 and SPB143. Leaning more towards the SPB143 as it more "versatile" . Either way think I'll be happy with either or. Thanks for the video!
Already have a king turtle and love it. Itching for another cushion case watch but can't decide between this or the Willard ....Anyone else in this predicament?
Ive recently picked up the SPB315J1, the gilt dial on bracelet. Overall, very pleased one week in. Love my Turtle Dark Manta too which is on a Strapcode Angus Jubilee. Nice, detailed review with a good follow up video. Totally agree that if its ok for Tudor to using aluminum bezels its ok for this model, which is substantially cheaper. I picked mine up last week for £525 which is cheaper than the UK rrp of a King Turtle.
At first I thought it's just too expensive and rather uninteresting. A friend asked me to buy the white dial version for him and after wearing it, I kinda understand why Seiko is charging so much for this. It's growing on me and it's definitely a nicely made piece.
I have just recieved my SPB 317 via courier this morning, and i must say your video quality is exactly what this watch is, its looks so good in person, i'm now waiting for my Crown & Buckle Matte Supreme Black & Slate single layer wrist strap to arrive 👍😃
I really like these. I was so close to getting the white dial version. I actually ended up going to a sort of oldie instead. Always had my eye on one of the early first 2 Willard reissues in 42.7mm, the green version always stood out to me and eventually caved into getting it very recently. Really nice military kind of green which seems appropriate given the context in which the vintage models are most associated for. And, happily, the bezel lines up! Yes, it's genuine Seiko. I think they've been possibly hoping their QC game most recently. Idk.. maybe... But, I feel I haven't heard of any alignment issues in these nor the new GMTs from any reviewers so far that have gotten them. The newer rubber strap quality they include are good quality. I am aslo not a big fan of the texturing. It's alright, but could prefer something else. I think they should either do the old chocolate bar style or the one with the small pyramids.. are those considered waffle style? I also prefer the coin edge grip around the bezel as you get on this and other higher level Prospex models around this price point. I also don't mind the 4:30 date window. Good they make it upright .. kind of like the SBEC005, instead of tilted like it was a standard date window would be at the position. Keeps dial symmetry in low light. And, it's so subtle and drops to the background, especially when the indexes stand out more. . As such, the dial symmetry in daytime is also pretty much maintained as well. It really depends on the dial and date disk color for whether a 3 or 4:30 date position is better. If it's something they can't color match, then it may be more jarring. Same with a date at 3.. if it can be made in same color and general size/shape of the index marker on the opposing side of the dial it will work better if it can't.
Hmmm, I feel Seiko are releasing too many watches that are very similar to each other. Personally I think Longines are leading the pack at the moment with their releases such as the spirit, ultra chron, Zulu. For the price the Seiko 6r35 is poor apart from the power reserve. I also think the current 39mm Longines hydro conquest is far superior watch. Especially the ceramic but that is a bit more pricey than the Seiko here.
@@marcusstoner1641 Not a fan of the ETA 2824 classic or powermatic, I actually think the 6R and 4R are better movements. Longines releases does look awesome, the mid-range swiss brands are kind of dull, Longines is one of the exceptions for sure. As for so many variations, personally I’m not really into it I’d prefer a more defined and refined line, but for most people maybe such diversity is a good thing.
I like the idea of added protection with the coating but the only problem is that if you want to polish out a scratch or flea bite it is not possible without destroying the rest of the coating
Ppl love to hate on seiko for the slight price increase and all that. And I agree I would love for these new releases to be around the 400 to 600 range but, have these in hand you can see and feel the quality difference. And I will take seiko with all the faults over any micro brand. You don't get any history and heritage with micro brands. Plus all my seikos are complete tanks. They hold up against real life wearing.
I wouldn't say people "love to hate on Seiko" for the slight price increases. But most consumers hate to end up paying hundreds and even thousands of dollars or euros for an expensive watch from a prestigious manufacturer like Seiko which cannot even be bothered to ensure the bezel aligns correctly with the chapter ring marker - it's a massive bummer - which common across the entire Seiko range but unheard of in companies such as Citizen, Hamilton or Certina which offer similar types of watches at similar or cheaper price points.
@@mediastarguest exactly my friend. Why do Seiko always seem to get a pass on shoddy QC? It's not as if they can't afford to fix the manufacturing process to ensure better products leave the line. Afterall, Japan was built on solid engineering and high standards in manufacturing, so why not Seiko?
it's not the price , its the lack of QC and after sales service. Ive bought multiple Prospex models brand new , straight from Seiko , yet they all came with either a chapter ring misalignment or some other QC issue. Have never been able to get any of these fixed through Seiko either , because all they say is " it's within our spec "... 😂
@@HRM.H I agree with all of your points. I was just talking about the price increase across the lineup. I'm well aware of the qc issues and how its frustrating from what is a fantastic brand. That being said I consider myself lucky. I own 9 different seiko's. 5 of them are prospex divers. They have been purchased through AD, and grey markets aka Amazon lol... and all of them have perfect bezel alignment. Friends of mine were not so lucky though.
@@polygoncoco what a terrible situation your in with your spb143. What an awesome watch to own and not have. As for the 6r35 I only have the spb101 sumo. It's a new purchase and so far is running great 🤞🏼 it's roughly 4 seconds slow a day. I'd prefer fast rather than slow but 4 seconds a day I'm happy. Hopefully it holds up to daily use as I am pretty rough on my watches. Also once again I consider myself lucky that I bought this sumo new unseen and it showed up with perfect Alignment and no defects that I have found. Also crazy clean dial. Not a spec of dust on it. I'll just count my blessings.
I sold my slim 6105 years ago and have been waiting for this ever since Seiko started remaking their classic divers. I am a bit dissapointed with the dial, the SEIKO would have been better as an applied/raised logo rather than printed like the original, that's in no way a deal breaker, but the prospex X really seems out of place on this one! I've passed this over as a next purchase as a near new Doxa 600t has been offered to me for less... I'll be keeping this Seiko in mind though, the original slim 6105 was one of my favorite divers and I wouldn't have sold it if it didn't have an aftermarket dial.
Thanks! I never knew the Turtle nickname is from the 6 o’clock view. So cute. But I always thought the name came from the case shape. This Retro Slim Turtle doesn’t feel like a modern Turtle, King Turtle or Mini Turtle. Missing are the original turtle’s arrow minute hand and trapezoid (toilet brush haha) meridian markers. Maybe call it Slim Willard?
Since you have both, mind if you could try out the spb143 bracelet on this to see if it fits? I really like the black but it only comes with the silicone @_@
Very good-looking watch! Thanks for the video! If it had a more consistent movement it‘d be a no-brainer for me. But now I‘m struggling with myself. I don‘t mind the unsigned crown. I even prefer unsigned crowns, as I find the common habit of overbranding (dial, caseback, crown, sometimes chapter ring and/or even case side) slightly ridiculous.
Agree. I've got the 62 mas style and it runs cosc. Then I bought a green willard and it was a dog! +56 secs a day. The movement even failed and had to go back to seiko - 2 weeks after purchasing!! They returned it and it ran well for a few days then started gaining time like a badass again so I flipped it. So hit and miss with this gen of 6R movement. I've had better luck with the 4R.
Absolutely love this 317. I don’t get the whining about date placement, in person especially you do not even notice it unless you look directly at it. You should have showcased it with that waffle rubber as it suits it way more imo as well as keeps the slimness of the case.
They took something so vintage like a cushion case and made it look so sleek and modern! The 70 hour power reserve is a useful, real life feature. So tempting but I'll stick with the original Turtles.
IMHO closest to a daily watch, thin ≅12mm thick. I'm retired now, my COSCs are stored. My first Seiko a gift in 1965, didn't buy one until SPB153, 239. Good enough. The 313 is slightly too bland... I'm hoping for some color (next year?), then I might get one.
How does the dial color compare to the SPB151? I know they’re both black dial divers, but the SPB151’s dial seems more dark grey in person and on videos than on the Seiko product photos.
Waiting for my SPB317 to return, after being sent off to be regulated. After a month of everyday wear, the 6R35 movement was averaging -30 seconds per day slow. WTF Seiko?

Correct, it does have a screw-down crown
