I recently bought the SRP777, and I absolutely love it. It’s one of those watches that every time you check to see what time it is, you tell yourself damn that’s a cool Watch. I started with seiko when my Watch obsession started about 15 years ago. I’m now the owner of a Rolex Submariner, an omega Seamaster professional ceramic, a brietling colt, tag heuer aquaracer and longines legend diver. you may argue that Rolex or Omega are better watches due to the prestige and high prices, however, when it comes to the “cool” factor, and history, the SRP777 is right up there wit Omega and Rolex. This is a legendary Watch with great history. If you’re thinking about buying one don’t hesitate, this is a great Watch that will put a smile on your face every time you wear it. I’ve recently read the Seiko is releasing a “mini turtle”, Whois is 42mm. I’m exited for those to come out so I can pick up another one.
I bought my SRP777 for my Eurotrip and have been traveling with it since July 1st. I cannot overstate how happy I am with this watch. The comfort, ruggedness, legibility and aesthetics are all perfect. There hasn't been a single lighting situation where I could not read the dial. And the Day-Date has been indispensable, it is so easy to forget what day it is when you're drinking every night... Great review James! Your Instagram pics were what tipped me over the edge to get it!
It looks just like my Seiko 6306-7001 watch i got back in 1977 when in the Navy. I paid a 124.99 for it at the ships store. My old Seiko is banged up, finish missing on parts of the bezel, and one scratch on the crystal. It still keeps great time and I have never had it serviced. I still love the Seiko that i have owned for 44 years.
in my early days-1950-1970, rolexes were kind of hard use utility watches without the rolls royce price. i think the seiko reissue of the turtle fills my utility niche perfectly without breaking the bank! thanks!
I agree that the Srp777 is a much better watch than the SKX, I have both and the SRP is getting majority wrist time over all my other watches. Have Omega Speedy Pro and Tudor Pelagos, both are great watches but for me, something about the Seiko SRP just garners that wrist time. Love my turtle.
I've had the SKX007 for a while and wear it quite often (a lot more than either my blue Pelagos or Rolex SD4K). Recently just got the SRP779J1 (Pepsi) and totally agree with you, the Turtle fits my wrist better not to mention that it also has the better MVT., so far it's my go to sort of every day reliable Honda Civic :)
Great watch but with more than 44mm it is a bit too big!! The mini turtle is even better I think, and I don’t like so much a daydate on a diver. The new spb 317 is like a dream...
Just bought my first seiko. Love this watch and gonna wear mine on a nato too. Sub is my perfect everyday but wouldn’t take it diving cuz Rolex loom blows. My Srp773 will be Perfect compliment for all the activities where I’d be worried about breaking an expensive watch. I’ve always admired seiko but non of the designs thrilled me until I saw this. Thanks for the review!!
I have some more expensive watches than my turtle but its performance and toughness just brings me back to it more than the others. I believe if you get one of these you will not be disappointed.
The thing that amazes me is how the case design makes the larger watch more stable on my rather bony 7 inch wrist. With the SKX and indeed many other designs the watch slips round to face slightly away from me, no matter how tight the strap. With the turtle it simply sits, very comfortably on the top of my wrist. Clever stuff from Seiko ....
Great review. I got mine recently and love it. Amazing value for the money. No question, much nicer than the SKX. I love the weight, the rubber strap, the details like buckle, keeper, case back and of course that Seiko lume. Hard to take it off the wrist.
I am from Romania . Thanks for the presentation. I stopped this watch too. After your presentation, I buy it for sure. It's a stylish watch for an active man!
Thank you for the nice video - you guys are really doing a marvellous job. Everytime I'm interrested in a certain watch I somehow bump into one of your videos or online reviews and they always bring out the main points in a very concise way. Besides that the videos (voice and pictures) are well made and pleasent to watch and listen (no unnecessary information or self promotion). By the way I just ordered an SRP777 and can't wait to have it on my wrist ...
James, just love your reviews. So clear and insightful and as a fellow diver enthusiast you are my go to review person. Great watch. I will be getting one. Keep your reviews coming you are by far the best watch reviewer on the net.
Bought it,hated it,got it on a Bond nato,LOVE IT! My SKX has been consigned to the display case and i have a feelng it`s gonna be there for a long time. Probably till the Turtle needs a service....
I just had a Pepsi version arrive and I’m thrilled with it. No alignment issues and an absolute value. I have plenty of divers, but this cost me sub $300. I do like the rubber strap too.
Took me a year, but I finally found a black dial Seiko Turtle (SRP777) finally with good dial/chapter ring alignment. Seiko quality control is crap on Turtles these days. One thing no review has mentioned is how much better quality the caseback feels on these new models. I noticed my new Turtle (SRP777) has the same caseback as my Seiko SBDC051.
I've had mine for 4 years. I can't complain. While it doesn't win a gold medal for accuracy-hey it ain't Swiss, for a Japanese watch it's ok, I'm very very very happy with it. Fantastic build, fantastic quality. It will outlive any of us-Seiko is made to last.
Received the srp777 the watch is quite heavy and durable is like 600$-800$ watch, perfect and lume amazing you have to check in real life,it is far brightest than youtube...
Great review. I watched this video 4x before buying the 777. I was set on getting the Coke version, but this vid did it for me. I can't think of any other watch at this price range that comes close.
If only we knew how high the SKX would go. Just picked up this gem for 305Euro new. It's now the 'cheaper alternative' to the SKX, but still I like it a lot. Great package.
Got me a new turtle two weeks ago and totally love it. I ordered a double domed sapphire crystal. Not necessary but I hope it’ll be worth the effort. 🕐⚙️🍸
Michael Orr Great and nice watch. Very reliable and robust watch. Mine is everything original except the crystal that I changed for a sapphire crystal.
Michael Orr Good choice. I'm so happy with it and I changed the hardlex crystal for a sapphire, the rest is original but I think hardlex is enough robust for diving and at the moment i didn't have any problem with this kind of crystal in my turtle.
I lucked out at my jcpennys. They are phasing out Seiko and had one watch left in the clearance section. It was the 775. I had know idea what a great watch it was until after I purchaed
44.3mm is super huge and simply no way I can wear this daily. Really like the design though. Will definitely consider if turtle ever be available as 40mm.
I got mine 4 months ago and sadly my 4r36 popped a molly or something. Started racing 10 mins + after 12 hrs. so I swapt out the 4R36 with an NH36, and I know they're pretty much the same movement with out the seiko branding but Damn.. this NH keeps amazing time. +2 a day and the winding feels and sounds better then my 4r36. Also noticed the counter weight ratchets the main spring more positively.
@@bigshoe84 I found out it looks like it was the hair spring on the 4r36. I took it off to look at it and it seemed to be bent in the beginning of the coil. Any who the NH36 is still running good and keeping great time. The crown and stem from the 4r36 dropped in the NH36 with no problem. Wines up the main spring, time and date position works and hacks. I liked doing that swap so much I took my SKX and swap the movement with an NH36 and installed the crown and stem with the S branded in it. I run my SKX almost everyday and when I want a different feel I run my turtle 🐢
I've always wore G-Shocks like two rangemans and a few others, but I wanted a Seiko for a long time. I first picked up the SNN231P2 on the black leather strap. Then I picked up the Seiko SSC017P1 with blue accents and I really like the Seiko line. I'm looking at getting the Seiko automatic's. I do own the Orient MAKO XL in the orange dial which I wear a lot. Now I want to get this same Seiko in my collection. What's the cheapest you have seen it at? Please get back to me when you get this or when you can. Great job on this video. Thank You.
I plan to by this beautiful watch as a birthday present for myself. Great review. One suggestion though - please do not shake and swing watch while reviewing... it made me a bit dizzy. Still shots were perfect.
I regret selling mine. May have to get one again. I rarely wear my PADI turtle now. I wear my Omega 2254 without any variation - BUT I do think this one rubber would make a dent into the rotation. I wore my OVM v1 last night and today to work and it felt good to have a change up. Wore it on a NATO.
I also dive with dive watches as a backup bottom timer, ascent reference, and safety stop timer. I absolutely love this review from a diver's perspective. Thanks for the upload! I just purchased my 777.
thx 4 the review. i purchased last week and have worn it for a couple days at work. absolutly love it but unfortunatly the rubber strap slides out of the metal keeper a couple times a day at work. so i ordered a orig. bond nato for it. hopefully itll wear better. maybe i should get a strapcode oyster for it too.
Bragging about your Rolex in a Seiko review is just tasteless. Who gives a crap if you own a Rolex. And no I'm not jealous. I'd buy 20 Seiko's before I'd buy one of those status symbols.
Excellent review. I've always worn SKX-007s, but I'm going to get a turtle case Seiko. Everything's perfect about Seiko divers but the case back. They can take some lessons from the Russians and their Vostok Amphibia case back design......absolutely no torsion or wear on the gasket when the case back is removed or tightened down.
Great review. This watch is absolutely my favorite in the collection for all the reasons stated. Out of curiosity who’s nato strap is that? I like the brushed and faceted hardware.
Just got my 777 for $297 with a 3 year seiko factory warranty. Is there a break in period for this watch it gained 3 minutes over the weekend. I haven’t given the watch a full manual wind yet
Took my watch back to Macy’s and they replaced it with no questions asked. Seems like the alignment on the new watch is spot on. Been wearing the watch for 9 days now been running perfect.
Great review, that Bezel on the SKX looks tops and that grey nato really compliments the watch. My wrist is just under 7 inches so the SRP maybe a bit too big but I'm going to try it on.
Where can I buy the newer silicone strap? I bought the Padi and it came with the bracelet so I took it off and ordered the older rubber strap..seems like the newer version is way more comfortable and felixble.
Excellent review very helpful... this is what I'm facing: I own a SKX 007 which I like a lot and I am looking at getting either the black sumo or this 777 turtle. My issue with the turtle is that it may look to similar to the SKX whereas the sumo is a definite step up. I also have a 7inch wrist and feel that the turtle may wear better . Tough decision any guidance?
I too bought this gem of a watch and i love it.the lume is awesome and its very comfortable.cant even tell im wearing it.can anyone tell me where i can get bracelets to change out on the srp777 for different looks?
Please advise the bezel alignment and the reserve time and accuracy of this SRP 777. Does the Watch come with OEM Seiko Steel Straps. Many Thanks for the comprehensive review.
41 hour power reserve...pretty standard. Alignment is perfect on mine, but of course you have people that say theirs is off a touch, this being Seiko. Depending on the model, it comes with an OEM Seiko steel bracelet. The SRP 775 (black and gold dial) comes with one, for example. Also nearly all special editions of this watch come on steel, and it fits any number of aftermarket options. As far as accuracy...mine runs remarkably well, within 2 seconds per day. But it's also brand new...June 2019 manufacture.
Nice review ! What about the accuracy ? Because i've heard that the SKX are not best when it comes to mesure the time; they lose or gain to many second in my opinion (if what i know is right).
Nice review. Very in-depth and informative. I have to give a bit of advice though. I noticed your nails. You are clipping them incorrectly. They should be clipped square to prevent ingrown nails.
Had a skx007 but hated that the watch head would always slide off my wrist. I would always have to adjust it back on the top of my wrist. Does the cushion case wear more stable?
Hi, I'm looking to purchase the seiko skx 007j, what are your thoughts, l love ths design and feel on the wrist but l'm concenned about thw power reserve. Would it keep time for a day or two, mayne overnight without it having wrist time. Or have you gor any other watch you can suggest please?
I have yet to find a new Seiko Turtle with good alignment with the chapter ring. All three, in three different stores, had alignment off. Also, the bezel alignment was off too (less of a concern for me at this price). WTF Seiko?

Another nice job James. Keep em coming.
He does a fantastic job but his overuse of the word "kinda" is unnecessary and annoying.
I bought one today and fortunate to have the J version. Now I am a proud owner of the SRP777J1. Keeping it forever!

Iv loved the 6309 since the 80,s. The 777 is really awesome! Had to get one.
definitely thinking about geting this. I usually wear chronographs but the clear crisp simplicity of the face is really drawing me in.
What a handsome watch, got to buy it now.
If only we knew how high the SKX would go. Just picked up this gem for 305Euro new. It's now the 'cheaper alternative' to the SKX, but still I like it a lot. Great package.
The 777 is the classic Turtle. A must have in any collection.
Very popular with Special forces even though it’s more expensive than G shock and Timex idiglo.
The 777 just looks amazing. Just ordered a 779. I'll wear it for a while and keep a black insert handy for when the pepsi honeymoon ends.

Also nearly all special editions of this watch come on steel, and it fits any number of aftermarket options. As far as accuracy...mine runs remarkably well, within 2 seconds per day. But it's also brand new...June 2019 manufacture.
Nice review !
What about the accuracy ? Because i've heard that the SKX are not best when it comes to mesure the time; they lose or gain to many second in my opinion (if what i know is right).
this are the videos why I have subscribed this Channel. good job James
Finally James! Been waiting for this bad boy.
Just got my srp777 last week...even sporting a grey nato from blushark.
James what is your favorite watch thus far currently?
Nice review. Very in-depth and informative. I have to give a bit of advice though. I noticed your nails. You are clipping them incorrectly. They should be clipped square to prevent ingrown nails.
Would you prefer the SRP777 or the SRPC23K1? Thanks in advance
Had a skx007 but hated that the watch head would always slide off my wrist. I would always have to adjust it back on the top of my wrist. Does the cushion case wear more stable?
Nice review James. How about the 4R36 accuracy? Thanks.
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase the seiko skx 007j, what are your thoughts, l love ths design and feel on the wrist but l'm concenned about thw power reserve. Would it keep time for a day or two, mayne overnight without it having wrist time. Or have you gor any other watch you can suggest please?
mine only tested to 5bar at my watch shop - keeps great time
Man, the SKX looks smaller than the SRP777. Which one do you prefer? Does the SRP777 really look big on the wrist? My wrist is about 7.5”
Great review! The SRP777 is one of my favorite watches.
Great review, mirrors my thoughts on it as well, it’s a great everyday wear watch. Complete tank and timeless style.
Solid review. Great work keep it up!
I have yet to find a new Seiko Turtle with good alignment with the chapter ring. All three, in three different stores, had alignment off. Also, the bezel alignment was off too (less of a concern for me at this price). WTF Seiko?
