    Steve assured us that it will be the safest MOTORCYCLE. As to being one of the strongest and safest vehicles in the world, that may be a bit of a stretch. That being said, I'm confident that it will be remarkably safe, even with just the two airbags. I'm also thinking that their virtual crash testing (with today's technology) is remarkably accurate and there won't be too many (if any) surprises when they start sacrificing the PI builds.

    Safety can also be attributed to nimble handling. The Aptera should shine in that regard, so defensive drivers don't have many accidents, it has a lot to do with focus and alertness while on the road. Aptera should, judging by the moose test prove to be extremely agile and evasive moves will prevent many accidents.

      I think that it is going to be a very safe vehicle but since the PI vehicle is substantially different than the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma prototype that the previous testing was done on we need to see crash testing and Moose test results on the new vehicle.
      I am curios to see how well it will do on the side crash tests without side air bags. Aptera seems pretty confident that it will do well.

    As long as the aptera is as safe as most cars which are very safe nowadays, I will be happy with it since it is an autocycle, not a car. Is nice that safety is a priority of Chris and Steve, and the aptera eill be tested like cars are

    Its "safe" to assume Aptera will be above that of the average car or SUV in safety. It is still an EV and has the wheel pods / crumple zones and rounded surfaces which provides safety much of the old VW beetle provided above average safety despite being small. Due to its lighter weight, higher battery and lack of side airbags I would expect that the model 3/y are safer but Aptera should still do well. Estimates from the videos is Aptera beta did the moose test at 48 mph which is far above average.

    When steve said 'the world's safest motorcycle,' I was like, yeahhh, don't do that. They have been selling it as a mainly 'standard vehicle' with the autocycle classification. They need to stick to that and prove that it is *as safe,* if not safer, than any standard 4-wheel vehicle on the road today. This product is not for motorcycle riders.

    Aptera is a new company. Plus the EV is lightweight, with 2 seats and 3 wheels. So the general public is naturally going to be wanting to be reassured about safety. And it is good that the Aptera team has stayed focused on aerodynamics, efficiency, light weight, performance, simplicity, affordability and safety. It needs to only match a regular car's safety and affordability to succeed, but it needs to excel in efficiency to get noticed. Before the first Aptera gets sold they will need to fully test the real world efficiency, performance, and safety to prove the EV's competitive value.

    how hard is it to repair the carbon fiber body tub? will it be expensive??

    • @billsmith5960
      @billsmith5960 6 минут назад

      It'll be easy as long as you can find someone that will want to touch it. If you can find that person, then hope it's not done to just make it look pretty but structurally sound. What you don't want is some dude that just lays some fiberglass on it and applies epoxy. Then paints it black to make it look nice.
      Even repairing traditional carbon fiber, it's never as strong as what it once was. Since this is not traditional carbon fiber, the method of repair needs to be explored and Aptera needs to determine what extent of damage would require a complete retub (which will total it).

    I hope they put some time of side airbags and I will pay the cost if they make it an option. If they want to incorporate six point restraints, I will use those as well. I think if Aptera wants to use safety, they do need to provide these types of options. We will see how the safety testing goes.

    Are the outside door skins made of carbon or fiberglass? It appears the inner door frame is. Is this where the strength comes from as well as the cross beam?

  • @jeffpitoniak

    While impact safety is great, the lack of side airbags is not. Carbon fiber does not protect your head and neck from inertia in side impacts. F1 drivers have wraparound seats, high headrests with side flaps to keep side to side movement minimal and helmet and neck restraints to limit head and neck injuries. Aptera doesn’t so the f1 safety aspect comparison is meaningless here. In a side impact with aptera being so lightweight, it will shift away from the impact while your body will try to remain in the motion it was in prior to impact so your head will either hit the side window or fling toward the passenger side uncontrollably almost definitely causing neck injuries and possibly head injuries. I have seen seats with built in head curtains and believe they should be the minimum protection included

    Worlds safest motorcycle... oh my... that is not a claim that inspires confidence. He really dodged the question as much as possible by stating customers are putting efficiency before safety.
    Quit claiming any relation to the F1 industry, you clearly do not know what you are talking about. F1 is safe for very specific reasons none of which are present in Aptera. The carbon fiber used by Aptera is short strand which has nowhere near the same as used by F1. Short strand is what many companies use for fenders, spoilers, and such, on cars. The F1 process is far more involved. Go study it and if you do not realize the fallacy of your assertion I don't know what to say.
    They do love to state they will meet FMVSS standards but you do realize they never state which ones. They went out of their way to declare they are a motorcycle for classification purposes.
    That is important because standards like 208 and 214. Have Chris and Steve state unequivocally they are going to test to those two and I will be impressed. Those are 30mph head on and 30 mph side impact crashes. NHTSA and IIHS do it at 40mph and use a heavier sled for side impact.

      The only thing Similar to F1 is the carbon fiber tub. And since Aptera is light weight it will bounce off, or back. Like a kids' toy bounces when playing.. But there will be damage to vehicle for sure, question is how hard will it be to repair the carbon fiber or fiberglass body parts.

    With a CF-SMC safety cell reinforced by a steel cage (instead of the tin can like stamped steel unibodies we are all driving around now), Aptera is Ahead By A Century. Tragically Hip to boot. Literally Can't Touch This. While other cars are Living On A Prayer, in terms of safety, Aptera will keep you "Stayin' Alive," avoiding that "Stairway to Heaven" (or "Highway to Hell" if you are going the other direction). It is the Rolling Stone of EV's. Clearly Born to Run.
    And if you think you can Beat It, Dream On.

  • @jamesengland7461

    How about we QUIT living in fear and expecting everything to be as safe as humanly possible? Obviously, seat belts and airbags are beneficial in an enclosed vehicle, and an enclosed vehicle should be built to protect the occupants in a crash as much as if practicable. Yet it's not unreasonable to simply walk, or ride a bike or motorcycle. We don't want any fatal flaws, but it's unreasonable to expect from a 1 ton vehicle the same safety as a 2.3 ton Tesla Model S. And that's OK. It's a continuum.

    • @garywozniak7742
      @garywozniak7742 17 часов назад

      Some people expect a level of safety from a vehicle that they will be paying $35k or $40k for. Aptera clearly understands that.

    carbon fibre smc, using short cut up strands of carbon tow, is cheapest and weakest form of carbon fibre. That being said its very nice design, shame it takes them so long just to make one PI vehicle. I'm not confident they will make any meaningful production at any time soon.

      I don't know the numbers behind it, but I'd bet that the smc safety cell is less brittle than if it was of laid cf construction. Brittle and sharp jagged broken cf is not desireable in crash protection. I think Aptera will do better than most people think in various crash types.
      Finalizing production design and getting supply chain updated and in place and dealing with changing lead times and arranging financing and buying production equipment and setting it all up, etc etc are what take the time. Putting a vehicle together is relatively quick and easy. That's the situation with most startups I've seen.
