Today Jared talks about the virtues of a Plasma Torch. An often overlooked tool, it proves its worth over and over again with it's incredible versatility. He then takes a look at an ArcDroid CNC plasma accessories, is it all hype, or does it really turn Carboard Aided Design into Computer Aided Design?

  • @802Garage

I think the ArcDroid is absolutely awesome! It's near the top of my list for needed shop tools right after a TIG welder, which I just got from PrimeWeld, and a lift. I didn't even know about the quick trace option. That adds even more usefulness. I saw one in action when Chris AKA Rusty Van Ranch helped me plasma cut some NLA exhaust gaskets for an old Greddy turbo. He has used it for a ton of projects. Considering how many small metal items tend to pop up as needed during fabrication, the ArcDroid makes a ton of sense. If you have a huge shop for a full table and you do a lot of volume, maybe a different story. For a small shop or home gamer the size is great. Also FWIW PrimeWeld has a 50A plasma cutter for $289 or less with whatever coupon is currently available and there are some other cheap options out there which can do at least half an inch. Totally agree it's a very useful tool to have and in my experience less messy and much quieter then cutoff wheels.

Obviously not the correct way, but I "cut" some exhaust off by turning my T-125 welder up. More of an experiment than anything but it did work. Wasn't as ugly as I thought it would be either. Was a good use for the cheap wire spool that came with the welder. The included spool was fine. "Welded" my first welds on 19 gauge sheet steel with it.

you straight up aren't supposed to move the bigger tables. When I worked in a fab shop, moving it was a BIG deal. It had to be emptied, cleaned out, torn down, re assembled, then recalibrated. it took days of downtime to move it . oh, yeah, and it needed to be fully mortar bedded. Are there easier ones to move? no doubt, but you can't get around the opportunity to clean it out, empty it, re fill it, and I'm certain re calibrating.

THINK of the term / Definition ( CRAFTSMEN ) For a Time in the 1900's to 2000's they were built, made, bought and sold on the American soil with few able to say even close to the same.
Stanely, Black & Decker, The Industrial side ( COMMERICAL ) Version De Walt, along with brands like Chanels locks, Vise Grips, Cresent, Estwing, Etc. AL used the NAME plate ( MADE in the USA. WHY does any of it matter ? A Clone of a Clone which is then CLONED to be like ( BUTT ) not actually a Form and function of the ORIGINAL is not a Value when push comes to shove. I would NOT discount all the store brands like, Kolbalt, Husky, ridged, Bauer, Hercules, etc. as being the same or worth every penny spent of saved. In a pinch * ALMOST * anything is far better then nothing. IF YOUR Business expects perfection and the Tool Trucks are who are being offered ? ? ? a Budget which is often times added to or reimbursed by the OWENRS Credit card influence who buys what and why. In the trades ( Apprentices are told. YOU NEED ( X, Y, Z, ) They often cannot afford more then the cheapest of the cheap to get them into a program or out on a job to earn a wage for quite some time unless they stick with it that is. TODAY I AM Frustrated by YOUR lack of acknowledging all this. A kid still living in his parents basement. Cannot afford a 500, 1000, or 1500, dollar tool cart, chest, cabinet or more.
Nor does that same person have the budget / Credit to spend way over there head still. I have seen plenty in this world OVER EXTEND the very essence of INCOME versus debt in less then 6 months on any given job site or employment opportunity in or right out of trades school too. YOUR lifetime of OVER KILL in tools is NOT likely even close to what a 20,30,40, or 50 years old Reality will be when getting into or upgrading in todays economy of Fantasy INFLATION ( Aggravation ) . Bu Going to LOWES, Home Depot, Menards, ACE, Walmart, Harbour Freight, or any other location that sells stuff short of internet like amazon and such PRICES are going to vary on even the most inexpensive versions of tools overall . I CHALLENGE you to STEP back to the teen age years of days gone by. Sit down and make out a WISH LIST. First in the 100 then 250 , 500 , 750, 100, 1250, 1500, all the way up to 2500 dollar amounts. What tools get added in ? What brands do you change out and WHY ( MORE importantly ) Is a Tool Box / Bag ? Maybe a few rolling piece by piece stackable version from the Big box stored s that carry it al for years to come ? YOU are NOT doing any REAL Service to tall the viewers out there by constantly saying your TOOL TRUCK Investment is now the same butt far less expensive and worthy o f the same kid of HONOR when a penny and your own two cents are contradicting it all with every breath Forwards and backwards... The VOICE of Reason has spoken YOUR welcome in advance for this REALITY check. NOW make a TRUE to Time 20204 Version of your teenage self going forward. Tools are not for the faint of heart. What is still in your own collection that was from when you got this party started ???

Sorry to see you go, you are going to miss a ton of really cool stuff coming up. And I pepper in the tool reviews as they have consistently performed better than other types of videos, and allow us to do more car and engine builds

@@TheQuestionableGarage i'm sorry man. i'll check back i think i just need to step back from the tube for a bit. i think that is more my deal right now. i had a right leg amputation and i'm stuck in a medical bed for a while. i literally sit in front of a gaming laptop i work from home and watch youtube videos all day long. the videos i need to step away from when i think of it more and more. nothing against you. i see more and more ads in videos these days and that's what is triggering me. i know, i'm weird. i have learned a lot from your channel though. i thank you for that. I do IT myself, lol i'm more like a "master mechanic" for computers if you want to put a automotive spin or label on what i do. like i said i will check back in and resub once i figure out what's going on with me.
