I’ve always turned to soundcloud for my favorite mixtapes or up and coming artists. But it’s the type of platform that, for the most part, is flooded. With the mass availability of music, it can become hard to find songs that actually stand out. Even now I find myself giving less of a chance to artists because we simply have so many options. Which is why I passed by the name XXXTentacion a few too many times on the platform.
So I gave it a listen. Quickly realizing that the tweet matched this persona quite well. The wet bass, angsty lyrics and haunting synth was something that I’ve never heard before. While diving into more of his soundcloud music pre-2017 I quickly developed a sense of XXXTentacion’s personality. With “Look At Me” being accompanied by a mugshot, I decided to dive deeper into the life of X.
Everyone is responsible for their own life and their actions. But when given no support or direction, it’s easy to become a product of your environment, because that is all you have. X’s environment was filled with violence and despair. His actions represented a protest for the life he should’ve had. Through music he learned how to express himself further than violence. He found that direction that wasn’t given to him when growing up. I can’t help but think that his music was a cry for change. It was quite clear that past the headlines he was looking to better himself before his life was taken.

His music was haunting, yet soulful. There won’t be another like him.

We got robbed of so much potential in the death of X. He could've been this generation's Ye.

Didn't know he was a kingdom hearts fan. And mentioning namine and her powers is more of a deep cut for the series too

I remember when I was vlessed through my homie GVXXI with XXX. It was Dec 2015 Junior year we were at my highschools football field after a work out at night we would break in the school and exersise in the field we had the whole field to ourselves. The Song he showed me at time was King of the Dead from X's old Soundcloud, the song was only 2 months old. It wasnt my favorite song still isnt but it was enough for me too look into his music and I immediatly found: ILOVEITWHENTHEYRUN and I was hooked ever sence and rabbit holed on X & then Ski all 2016. X became & still is my favorite rapper from that era/wave.Good times.
I compared him too the closest thing I could relate it too at the time in terms of rap, I said his music was like if $uicideboy$ & Bones had a love child... which didnt feel entirely right but it was just so different and unique I couldnt put a finger on it, it's just what my brain whent too. When Look At Me blew up a little over a year later I wasnt suprised that X blew up I had a feeling he would because his music was so different, raw and hyped but I didnt know that Look At Me would be the one to bring him up. It wasnt my favorite song by him; maybe thats why, it was just one of many hyped bangers he had at the time, nothing stand out too me though it was a good song and I liked it alot. In hind sight its extremely catchy but I honestly thought TAKE A STEP BACK would be X & Ski's breakout hit and I liked FUXK & GXD DAMN better then Look At Me.
X's legacy aint tarnished too me he's still my favorite rapper ever and will be for; if not life a very long time, deff top 5 for life. Idk what yall think anything X just triggers mad nostalgia for me.
    🩶XXX💀
RIP THE KING OF THE DEAD
P.S. just Let me fan boy rq !😂🪦

12:22 X was only in the spotlight for a year and a half (including his time being locked up for months since his mugshot was viral by end of December/January 2017) who knows what was to come from X if he was given more time since he was trying to move out of FL to Cali after his case... he was really giving back/growing behind the scenes after ? leading to his death working with local youth programs in his area that he's been in the past. He also returned to training mixed martial arts, X had tons of crossover & collaboration opportunities depending how "cancel culture" would've effected him but with internet/most of gen z on his side idk if he could be truly cancelled with his fanbase... He would've captivated many eyes and ears for years to come through music and much more like we've never seen breaking new barriers despite breaking a ton before he died that many like to overlook, could've and would've achieved much more if given the chance. too bad he was robbed of that opportunity like other legends (pac, kurt, biggie, lennon) as well but at least they got to live past being only 20 unlike X... life's just unfair sometimes, guess every generation is bound to lose a legend that's capable of making a change in this world through music. I highly doubt we'll see anybody ever go from 0 - 100 achieving A list celeb status overnight like X through the power of the internet & music as an independent artist, if you consider how much time he had to put a stamp on the game it's quite remarkable what he achieved in a year and a half or even less technically

Gonna be honest I wasn’t as connected to the music scene as I am today v back then, but the only reason I listened to his discography was when everyone was freaking out when he passed
