- Zeus presents Pac-Land (un-emulated) for the C64, a true classic from the golden era of C64 gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1988
This really was a breath of fresh air when it came out after all the Pac-Man sequels, spin-offs and clones.
This time instead of going through the usual mazes, eating up power pills and gobbling up the ghosts, you take control of Pac through his home town where you must run, jump, bounce and jump over swimming pools and logs on your quest to get to the magic door where you will be awarded treasures such as points and magic jumping boots.
I loved this game even though it could get frustrating at times when trying to jump over a log and hit a ghost whilst doing so.
This is a great conversion, colourful, playable with smooth scrolling and high enjoyment factor.
A huge thanks goes out to "Kamilz" for producing the invincibility poke I needed to produce this longplay.
I hope all you C64 fans enjoy this upload.
Please note: NONE of my game uploads are emulated in any way whatsoever, they are 100% original recordings by myself taken directly from the original hardware the game was intended for, that way you know you're watching the real thing.
I will also always state weather i am using any cheats in the game, if not mentioned then i am not using any.

Thanks that takes me back. I worked at Gannon Designs back then and wrote most of the code for the game. Your year of release is incorrect through as we worked on it during 1987/88 and rhe C64 version was released in 1988.
I'll change it now, and congrats on releasing easily the best version out of the other 8 & 16-bit versions, great game :-)
Allan Ogg Great Port! :)
Bought this game original on tape and loved it. Only minor differences with the coin op (you can’t jump on top of ghosts / cars and no “water cap” to shield you from falling mini ghosts), but unfortunately really impossible without cheats. I don’t think I ever managed to get past the first long pool, almost breaking my joysticks... 😂
I used to play a lot to this game in the early 90's,but c64 version was horrible...pac man could not shift cactus or hydrants, and overcaming the long swimming pool, was really really hard
You guys did a great job, I had this one and really liked it. great quality conversion.
The video doesn't do justice for how smooth the scrolling is actually. I saw this game on a real C64 on a TV back when I was young and my jaw dropped to the floor from the smoothness of it.
I have been trying for 25 years to do that 3rd springboard!
Congratulations on passing 3,000 subs!
An excellent conversion. As someone who grew up with an Amstrad CPC, seeing this game (and a few others) running on a C64 is what convinced me to buy one with money earned from my first job. The smooth scrolling was so impressive (CPC version of Pac-Land was flip-screen).
Thanks for the congrats, 2nd time now I've passed the 3000 mark thanks to youtube remove 100 of my subs in a day,...happened to many uploaders,...as if they were having a big clear out.
Did you see my 3000th sub special?! Hope you check it out :-D
Yeah it was the same on the speccy,...flip screen which is unusual for games like this on that machine, Ghost 'n Goblins and Ghouls were smooth scrolling on speccy but yet again flip screen on the cpc.
Now he has 12,000
4:57 Jesus, that was close. I could never make that jump.
That jump was fucking bullshit. Me and my brothers had a cracked version with infinite lives. We sat around for several hours on several days taking turns trying to get past it. We never did... not once.
Don't be fooled, he's playing with invincibility.
@@Andros2709 ohhhhh! I did wonder.
As a Speccy owner I was very jealous of my C64 owning friends because of this game. It took ages to come out on the Spectrum and it was flick screen.
Speccy version is a real bastard to play, very unfair and frustrating, I tried to do a longplay of it some time ago but it pissed me off so much I gave up, I think I kept falling down a pit and in the end reset the speccy out of anger!
+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel Yeah it wasn't the greatest conversion by a long shot. It's a shame because very early previews of it looked a lot different and looked as if it scrolled.
"flick screen"
*Flip-screen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-screen :)
+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel Here is a look at that preview: i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah35/swainy75/35CE5A1F-C68C-41A8-BA5A-E29512ACBF88_zpstawq3f9n.png & i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah35/swainy75/D8EB8080-072C-4F38-A57C-489E415B67D6_zpsmmh5jecn.png
@@KesMonkey There is a distinction: Flip changes the entire screen at once, Flick screen just moves the screen about a quarter or two thirds in one direction, so you can still see part of the previous play area (for example, Target Renegade)
Last night, i dreamed it having impressive fmv cutscenes using more than the c64 colors
I used to play this on the ferry to the Isle of Man every time we went i would grab loads of coins from my parents and get lost for a couple of hours. I cant remember where i got to but never completed it. i had been for years trying to find out what this game was called. Very nostalgic. Never realised it was on C64. Cheers for that.
Could NEVeR make that jump at 4:48. Never.
My childhood Pac-Land adventure ended there.
Like Robocop; just another c64 game with a game-breaking bug making it literally impossible.
The board is bugged, you're supposed to land on a plane there IIRC from the arcade version.
When I was a kid tho, I had a pac land on C64 that had a trainer which let you choose the world/trip you start on from the beginning, so I'd get to this part, then reset and choose the next trip beause there was no way to beat this no matter how fast I'd press right to float.
It's a glitch and one that isn't worth developing the skills to potentially beat.
I need to find that trainer/hacked ROM that let you choose the world/trip you start on from the beginning otherwise the game ends here tbh
This version has the same camera scrolling from the Arcade version.
With a trick, It has some visible bugs in The scrolling
I remember I thought it was a crappy game by that time, but I can appreciate now it's a pretty good conversion after all, graphics, music, cutscenes. Playability maybe a bit difficult, the controls were a nightmare, but overall a damn good job with the game.
These were the best days and best games
Aw... you were cheating. That impossible jump on stage 2. I've reached just as long as you did but fell in the water. You miraculously climbed out of it. Boo. Yeah, but anyway. Like I was about to play this game ever again. Wonderful to see the whole thing after all this years. I did ask Nostalgia about doing a full part of Pacland, same as they did with Commando and Ghost'n'Goblins, but they told me: Pacland? Who gives a flying sock!? So there. I used to love this game back then. The characters and the music. I had no idea of the Pacman fever going around or that the C64 version were missing some of the arcade levels, Didn't know, didn't care. It cost me a total of zero quarters to own a C64. :)
Most of my uploads includes cheats of somekind, if I use them I will state it in the video description and this game for me I just had to use them, this was an excellent conversion, very playable :-)
Good conversion, loved the Arcade game!!!
Me too, it made a pleasant change from the usual eating pills and running escapade :-)
The most frustrating stage was the 6th the one with 3 swimming pool, one of them was too long, you fell in last part...here I can see the conveyed trick...you can jump in the water in the very last part!
Knowing 30 years later XD...
He used a cheat i think...
As a Pac-man Fan, wish this port Of Pac-Land Was Brought To America.
This port was released in 1988 exclusively in the PAL regions.
I think you get a bonus if you jump at just the right time at the "break time" sign or just before returning to the family. Also: it's nice to meet a fairy that doesn't look or scream like an insane hooker. I'm looking at you Ocarina of time..
Not sure myself bud, I do know that you also get a bonus if you try to push one of the fire hydrants on the first stage but I already recorded this before I remembered :-/
yeah, I did that on the Atari Lynx version and i got a +100 bonus
Good port.
True.
By the looks of it, Pac-Man's sprite is based on the Japanese version (beady eyes and long nose)...
also not to mention the church being present, and pac man's family looking different too.
Destroyed so many joysticks trying to jump the pool
How well does this play compared to the arcade version?
Easily the best version of the home computers and plays very well, bloody hard though which is why I used pokes ;-)
5:33 PAC Can Swim N O W
Arcade: wth
13:34 Why didn't they use the sawtooth voice of the C64
Excellent loading screen.
Around 8:45 it really looks a lot like a big ole' cheat is used (fairly, as that would be an incredibly frustrating area)... no mention of it though, other than the credit buried in the description? How about elaborating on the actual poke? ;)
That's all that's needed really, I've mentioned it, not tried to hide it...unlike a shit-load of other channels I could mention when they use savestates.
such a good game! I had never seen past trip 5, thanks
No probs, that's what this channel is all about,..showing as much of the games as possible.
been a looong time since I saw that game. Thanks for posting. :-)
No problem, glad you like it :-)
Was this played on an NTSC or PAL c64?
Everything PAL on this channel.
argh.. I Always drowned in the lake and could never figure out how to jump over. Hated this game ;D
Yep It's a constant TAP motion on the RIGHT direction, gotta hit that springboard at the right moment though.
15min full game! O_O
But it's a nice game
I like how the pakage does say ‘there are many imitators but theres only one pac land’
Thus actually claiming nobody could imitate pac land,,,but then came Nintendo 1 year later with supermariobros, woops OUCH to namco🤣
Because pac land faded into obscurity but with that game supermariobros wouldn’t have existed at all, that’s a fact.
One of first sside-scrolling platformers, pretty fun game, but, impossible for me to finish without emulator, always have hard time avoiding obstacles :)
Id've had the same problem,...if it wasn't for the invincy poke ;-)
No ending?!?, I hate games with no ending..
I'm the fron of the que on that subject >:-(
However in this case It's not the conversions fault, it was like that on the arcade.
Ok than. I didn't know that mate. Btw, what happened to Ninja Commando ?
I'll upload it next bud, recorded in full :-)
Awesome!
It's up now! :-)
Looking so cartoonish
Gotta love the 80's!
one of the crappiest ports ever made for the c64. a total disappointment
