What a contrast between what turned out to be a screwed-up Ebay bid (almost $10 million, which wasn't a valid bid) to what is now the actual final bid at the 2008 Barrett-Jackson Car Auction (under $500,000).
I have a replica General, It has a 528 crate engine that puts out about 825 hp at 9000 rpm, has custom 6 speed Hurst manual tranny and a 4.32 rear end, Has EXCELLENT working AC & Harmon-Kardon stereo/CD changer with MP3/iPod hookup, It also has aftermarket power windows, locks and cruise, I Sometimes use it as a daily driver when my 2009 Charger HEMI's in for service or maintenance, IT REALLY ROCKS!!!
The Dukes of Hazzard was my all time favourite show growing up, and it saddens me to see John let go of such an iconic part of his past, but its his decision.
I don't care if he has 100 of them...that's NOT the point! I think it was VERY admirable that he sold the car for charity. Ten MILLION bucks is a LOT of money...and John gave it away to CHARITY! How many of you people would do the same thing? It goes to show just how good a guy he REALLY is! God bless you John!
was this the one where they had to go to court.I dont know what is was all about,I thought one time that the guy who won the bid didn't have the money.any of you know about that
It's funny... this General Lee sold for $10 Million... but John's personal General Lee but souped up also a show car... just sold for a little over $230,000... strange..
This was my brush with a ten million dollar fraud. Very painful. You can imagine how we planned to spend the money, only to have it disappear because of a fraudulent bidder. One of the worst times of my life (and then the Writers Strike and the Great Recession followed...)
@bigbadge107 It was only a replica he had built and they used in the reunion movies and at duke fest. From what I hear, he has one of the originals but it is never driven and kept stored, brought out a carried on a truck to events.
John Schneider'm 39 years old, I'm a fan of the show since childhood, but in Brazil there is not much about the dukes, even I only have until the 1st and 2nd season of dvd and wanted to get up to the 7th and final season. I'm a fan and would like to purchase a few more items. I'm your fan and fan of all the cast Marcelo Abreu - São Paulo - SP - Brazil
i heard that they used 279 cars to do the show.thats alot of wrecked chargers,im just glad it wasnt some of my chevys toren up and wrecked.yeh!chevrolet forever,wew!#1 car brand of all time, chevrolet.always have been(since 1955)always will be.heartbeat of america, like a rock.wew!
9 million 9 hundred thousand and 500 hundred dollars for the General Lee? And somebody is saying "Why did you do it John? DUH!!! Let me make a wild guess here....couldnt be the money...I mean, well, YEAH!!!
At first I asked myself, "why would he sell it?", but then for that price, You could buy the best replica in the world, a McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron and still have change!
I can't believe that Bo Sold The General.... I have wanted that car since I was six years old..... That must have been like selling his own brother... he doesn't look all that upset about it though...
sad to sell a General lee but for $9,000,000,+ I think it's worth that to sell a replica lol... that is my dream car a 69 charger that at least looks something like the general lol maybe throw in the classic horn
it turned out the bidder was a"dirtbag" and did not pay 9mil john got 300k for it, but the car is actually a highly modified 700hp crate motor hotchkis suspension gear vendors overdrive transmission i believe it also has nitrous as well
LMAO!! everyone in that video is so gullible. please tell me you guys really didnt think that car was worth almost 10MIL and not think that there just might be a problem with the auction? i am surprised how clearly everyone was able to talk with all those big hooks in their mouths.
9mill huh?! Good for him. But as far as the buyer..............Come on man. You could of had 10 fully loaded general lee's for the price you paid. And.... paid John schneider a million just to say its his. for all you know that could of been dude in the back ground car, and he just said it was john schneider.
@richguy920 That's what I did. I bought the RT with the 440 Magnum engine and had it customized by a pro, roll bar and all. Traded another customized car for it, a duplicate of the car in the Universal Picture "The Car" with James Brolin. He sold it to a rock rand for a bundle. There were soooooo many stunt cars for that series, how do you single out the 'original'? There ain't one!
@oreokookie1000 It was closer to 250 cars wrecked..... A total shame. They had gotten so low on chargers in the hollywood area, that the cast was out leaving notes on peoples chargers asking if they would sell them.
In the DUKES OF HAZZARD episode THE GENERAL'S B DAY UNCLE JESSE said it was like family and you dont give up on family. Why did you do it JOHN?BO DUKE whould have kicked your ass for that.First time I whould have agreed with a fictional tv character to .
...i AM crying... I would NEVER sell "The General Lee"! N-E-V-E-R ! Why did you John? :(
Great send-off! Thanks for being the best part of my childhood, John! That car brought back some awesome memories.

WOW!!! I had no idea it sold for this much. It's a cool ride but even for $1 Mil I would have sold it long ago. Way to go John!

The equivalent of selling your soul? A sad day for TRUE classic car lovers.
@chevynut71570
The director said more like 400 total.
@bigbadge107 It was only a replica he had built and they used in the reunion movies and at duke fest. From what I hear, he has one of the originals but it is never driven and kept stored, brought out a carried on a truck to events.
