I was excited to find this! John's place is just down the road from me and I'm a HUGE fan of John's, "the orange ", General Lee, Waylon Jennings, his theme song and of course The Duke's!! Waiting for Covid to be over and the next Extravaganza! You boys didn't get a little too warm down here in Dixie did ya!?!
I always thought Waylon was smart for telling the producers of the show that he would like to have a General Lee! While they couldn't give him a screen used car due to liability issues, this was as close as they could get! People often wonder why John or others who worked on the show didn't keep one of the Generals because when you see how valuable they are today, the idea of keeping one from the show seems like a no brainier, but in 1984 perhaps the people who worked on the show didn't see how valuable the surviving cars would eventually become...
Always wanted a General Lee, but in this current atmosphere I would be cautious to drive it. I guarantee it would be keyed or vandalized in my area, because people are ignorant.
They never drive those cars always trailer, the becoming few and far between. Also doors being shut those dudes could never get in car LOL. Me as well as i'm not 22 anymore :)
I've been wondering where this car was for almost 20 years. I'm glad to see it's in the hands of someone who appreciates it and has it in good shape. Thanks for making the video.👍🏻
yeah they did a nice job bringing it back to life cuz I remember there was an interview with Waylon in the 90s talking about the stuff that he had out there at his place in Arizona. and they mentioned there was a general leave but it hadn't run in years it wasn't in running condition so I guess after a few years of driving and he never really kept it up..
Gary and this car reside in the town where I live. He had it at the gas station in town gassing it up before he loaded it up to take it to Bo’s extravaganza and I talked to him briefly, took some pictures and some video. He did a small burn out for me. Awesome to see this video.
Love these videos and love the dukes and John is a definite real deal what a genuine guy who actually gives a damn! And I'd like to know how to get an orange cars matter sticker
That's so cool...!! I'm a Elvis Presley fan, so I love the gifts . Big fan of Waylon Jennings and John Schneider too . Where was this at if you don't mind me asking ? Thank you for sharing this video with us !! BTW I'm a new subscriber .
Web search. He is on tour with a show right now. I imagine he has a web page or unfortunately a facebook page with info. I know he has a RUclips channel.
@@ChunkeyMonkey40 Well Im planning on moving out to the country. Were I see a lot of original GA flags. Look up the original/real GA flag. Its got the rebel flag on it. In the 25 years Ive lived in GA (Born and raised) Ive seen so many rebel flags and original GA flags. Im sure its fine but moving out to the country where that type of stuff it welcome haha.
maddmaxx636 let me know where all that stuff is welcome because I want to move there too. Anyone out there know where in our country we can fly the stars and bars without being treated like we are the bad ones.
I think I might have seen Waylon’s Lee when it was on display inside at Dukesfest in Nashville back in 2008. I believe his granddaughter was in attendance with it.
I would love to bring mine to Duke fest. I'm restoring mine. It was a barn find. The old lady didn't know how much it was worth. I baught it for 3,000$ even with a bad motor. And seats torn. I've spent 2 years restoring with my kids teaching them everything I can about the show. They were under the impression it was racist. Wow
There is a blue Dodge Charger with the Stars and Stripes painted on the roof named General Grant that plays Yankee Doodle on the horn. I'd like to see you guys race him.
@@ChunkeyMonkey40did you check their VIN numbers to see if they had matching factory codes? It'd be cool if they came out of the Hamtramck plant the Dodge brothers built. Those guys died in the Spanish flu pandemic. Can you imagine what they might have achieved if they had survived it?
It’s just amazing when you think about it. Had the car in the dukes NOT been a 1969 Charger. Do you think the show would have been as successful? I can’t envision any other car on its place. They originally wanted to use a Chevelle SS but they couldn’t find enough of them in budget. In 1978 ‘69 Chargers were plentiful. The General became a person. A character on the show. It’s image is just so iconic now. It’s just a shame that 300 of them were destroyed.
You know the diesel Dukemobile makes a lot of sense. The inventor of the diesel engine used peanut oil for fuel, and the Dukes hail from Georgia where half of America's peanuts are grown every year.
Hi.Love the Dukes .Screw the PC people with the crap now going on. .. Nice to see that John met up with his old friend The General Lee.Its like David Hasselhoff meeting up with KITT. Great TV shows then .John looks great..RIP Waylon...Love his music..True country music...

Very awesome and cool
Man to have Waylons General that’s got to be the one to have. The balladeers car. Legendary is what the General Lee is.
These videos are awesome. Grew up making damn sure I was home on Friday night for the Dukes, which followed Family Feud.
Greatest TV car ever, General Lee!!

I'm a huge Waylon fan but I never knew that he owned a General Lee
The madam Tussaud’s wax museum in Nashville has him leaned up against a general lee. Google it it’s pretty cool
That makes 2 of us !
@@grantpurdy5042 oh you mean the 3 of us cause I didn't know that .
He was a big part of the Dukes of Hazzard.
They gifted him one a long time ago I think it was during the episode he guest star on
Waylon Jennings loved right down the street from me while he was playing at JD's in Scottsdale AZ and making a name for himself!

Because he owns one and right up his alley fuckin a man

Because there's no exact color of the General Lee, so some people wing it and mess up. Thats my guess
