@@stevenricker791its still reckless driving or that's what a buddy got anyways for sliding around a corner in a old Dodge pickup in highschool. Didn't see the deputy sheriff hiding down the road 😂
Ok, honest it is. The Trans Am handles better, looks way better and put side by side with the same size engines in stock trim, the 400ci Pontiac would leave the 400ci Mopar in the dust. The Charger was a lot heavier and the Trans Am had better horsepower and torque. So, before all you Mopar guys start yelling "yea? Well let see it run against the hemi!", ok, the Hemi was an option in the Charger but the 455 was an option in the Trans Am.
@@dochollywood4576 Sure, the 455 was an impressive engine, but we're talking about HERO cars here. No. 1: The Bandit hero car very clearly had "6.6" plastered on the shaker (the 400ci) which made respectable-for-the-time 200hp that pales in comparison to either the 440 Mag/6-pack OR the 426 Hemi. It's even outplayed by the 383 Magnum, which made 335 bhp. No. 2: The 455 SD (which made crazy power for the time) was only only used through the '76 model year. We're talking about a '77/'78 car here. And let's not forget, the Firebird had a curb weigh of roughly 3,600 lbs. The Charger was only 300 lbs heavier. Given the 100-200 hp gap (depending on engine), this is a pretty moot point. Don't get me wrong, I love the crap out of the Trans Am. It's been one of my all-time dream cars since I saw the movie. But saying the Firebird overpowers the Charger in a straightline is uselsess. The facts don't line up. However, the Firebird DID have a more modernized suspension set up and definately would have handled better. So when choosing between the two, it's really a pick-your-poison sort of deal. At the end of the day, it's important to remember that you're allowed to love multiple cars at once. It's not like your going to hurt their feelings. I''m a self-proclaimed Mopar guy through-and-through, but I love Chevys, Fords, Pontiacs. Anything from the 60s, I'm likely to enjoy. Heck, I love me some Japanese Muscle just as much as Detroit Muscle. Edit: Oh yeah, and saying that the Firebird looks better is subjective. If that's your opinion, that's cool. well done! & if anyone is wondering which is faster, a quick bench race will tell that tale. here's a primer: '69 Dodge 440ci, 375 hp vs. a 400ci '77 Pontiac..about 200 hp.
I got to do extensive wrenching on a 77 Trans Am with the 403 Oldsmobile. The last thing to go was the choke pipe Oldsmobile exhaust. Would like to see how the 415 dyno power did in the car after the exhaust upgrade.
James Piper no trouble there. Leaf springs are the most efficient way & the design pushes the rear axle down..very firmly. If you watch a classic Mopar muscle car on launch, you'll note the rear end rise, not drop..along with the front. The best of these were the superstock type..extra curvature to increase that effect. Flatter springs are better for cornering, given an equal spring rate.
@@AutoEdits wouldn't be right to drive a General Lee or Smokey Trans Am, and have it be shiny and perfect. Might look nice, but goes against the spirit of them doesn't it
Loved it, grew up with these on tv, had a 78 T/A in my 20's.....an absolute Frankenstein monstrosity. Hood and drivers side front fender off another. Same front fender beat in on rear side to accept a 77 Camaro drivers door. Trunk off different car. Expanding foam filling in all the quarter panel rot. 400 Pontiac sitting in her that had been rebuilt a little tougher and a race built transmission. Had her for 15 years or better an absolute joy. Easy to cruise around 70 on gravel.

It's like my childhood, before Michael Bay ruined it!
?
brianyzq777 he's referring to the new movies, and how they have special effects like cgi. *cough Fast and the Furious cough*
No I'm thinking he's getting Michael knight and Bay watch mixed up.
well done! & if anyone is wondering which is faster, a quick bench race will tell that tale. here's a primer: '69 Dodge 440ci, 375 hp vs. a 400ci '77 Pontiac..about 200 hp.
Tom Johnson What are the weight differences of both cars?
Paul O'Neal approx. 3,800 lbs charger, 3,600 lbs Trans Am. Nm of a factor.
I got to do extensive wrenching on a 77 Trans Am with the 403 Oldsmobile. The last thing to go was the choke pipe Oldsmobile exhaust. Would like to see how the 415 dyno power did in the car after the exhaust upgrade.
More horsepower is not always faster, ya gotta get it to the ground.
This brought a big ole smile to my face. It would be a dream come true for me.
Wow, just found this. Coolest video I’ve seen in a while! Love em both.
Only thing missing is a Starsky and hutch Torino
Very nice car and camera work. Both cars sound great! =)
This is how these cars deserve to be used! Not sitting in a garage haha
I agree!
@@AutoEdits wouldn't be right to drive a General Lee or Smokey Trans Am, and have it be shiny and perfect. Might look nice, but goes against the spirit of them doesn't it
Brilliant, made my evening, am a bandit fan but sure hell like the dukes too. Great driving and video takes.
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved it, grew up with these on tv, had a 78 T/A in my 20's.....an absolute Frankenstein monstrosity.
Now that’s drive’n! My two favorite cars in the whole word ripp’n the roads. Freaking awesome!!! That would be great to see another video with The Bantit ,General Lee and Bullit!!
Made my day, thanks!!!!
Dang, I feel like I just watched an episode of the Dukes! YEEEEEHAAAAAAW! *dixie horn in the background*
Super cool guys! Brings me right back to being 10 again. (Nice driving too) 🇨🇦👍🏼
All thats missing in this picture from my boyhood dream garage is a yellow singray..
Look after these girls.
And long may they run... A real treat to see these beautiful cars together.. Thanks
