He didn't even have permits to film this movie, all the 500 plus cars were owned by H.B Halicki, this was the only movie that was 100% funded by the maker, all the stunts were done with zero permits including driving through the crowded parks and all the crashes, when he took out the light pole on the L.A Freeway he just took off up the ramp like it was supposed to happen, it was all in the extras on the dvd that sold @ Walmart 15 yrs ago. Best movie I ever found in the $5 bins besides Vanishing Point and and a few others.

Way better then the Hollywooded up Nicolas Cage version. What you see is what you get. A lot of people don't know, that in the part when he hit , and sheered off that steel utility pole. He really did lose control, and seriously injured himself. Had "Eleanor" not been extremely reinforced, he'd of been done for. He kept on going even after he was seriously hurt. You gotta understand also, this was filmed on a very limited budget. Nobody in Hollweird would get behind his vision. Thus why H.B. "Toby" Halicki Wrote, produced, directed, was the stunt coordinator and drove the Eleanor car. So much more realistic then the re-make. He hit something, something got dented, smashed, or fell off the car.You see a lot of close friends, and family of his in the credits. It took me YEARS to find the original version of Gone IN 60 Seconds on DVD, after the fluffed up version came out. Still looking for more of his films on DVD

I have a DVD called "Fast as Hell"It has "The Junkman","Deadline AutoTheft"and"Gone in 60 Seconds ll".All are H.B.Halicki movies. The Junkman is an actual finished movie.A cool chase scene with him driving a 80-82Corvette.I rented this movie from a gas station/video store in 1988.After the early 90s these movies became hard to find. The others are slapped together footage that was left after Toby Halickis unfortunate death onset during filming in 1989.Check out "MillCreekDirect.com".If that doesn't work text me at 6159875079.I'm a total fan of these movies and have a friend that keeps up with it.

+wazzzzzup, first of all, you are of full of shit, so take off the rose-colored nostalgia glasses, okay? Second, while the newer Gone in 60 Seconds had so-so car chase scenes, its story was a lot better done than the H.B. Halicki movie, but the H.B. Halicki movie also had very impressive car chase scenes in its own right and, like the first French Connection film, it was done all in real time and you know how well people loved that part of the movie.

"He spent a couple of years acquiring cars to use in the production. *_He owned a salvage yard in Downey_* along with his cousin. They were both millionaires in thir early twenties. *_Between the salvage yard and local wholesale outlets he bought about a hundred various vehhcles_* to use as fodder for the film.
"His business was always under investigatioin by the state, suspicious that it was a front for a chop-shop/ stolen vehicle business. Some feel the plot of the movie was him thumbing his nose at authorities.

Back in late summer of 1976 I dragged home a nearly mint 71 Mach 1 fast back the last of its kind with that mach 1 logo on it the yellow was much deeper than this movie car so it might not even be all original... It had in it what my uncle grand father said was a toasted possibly run out of oil running but knocking 351C. They spent about 7-8 months refining it and never told me there was a two 4bbl intake somewhere the back with one Holley 850 carb. They did their own magic. The thing turned into an out of control museum piece still currently in my dads recroom museum. Under my dads house is 5 of my own vehicles 4 of his own and a half dozen motorcycles that have not been started since we parked em. My uncle Meinhert is credited with finishing that cars. That Mustang like my Camaro can literally tear a pair rear tires right off it. I had that Mustang up over 100 some shut it down. last time I ever drove it was summer of 88. I just got home from military serv in Panama.. I was hurt and went reserves. My dad revived the speedo that took a dump the summer of 1978 my grand father and uncle beat on it all summer long even raced it a few times locally on the streets. It now sits untouched without a single dent. It has an anti Jane Fonda sticker on the hatch window. We left that there for some reasons. The odd touch to that Mach 1 is the chrome wheel arches and chrome along the bottoms of the doors and rockers similar to the 69 model year. I have seen other 70 body styles like that.

H.B. Halicki. He was a real gonzo filmmaker who made his fortune in the auto salvage business. When he made 'Gone...' he shot it without a completed script, provided his own cars and did his own stunt driving. Sadly, he did die on the Buffalo, NY set of 'Gone In Sixty Seconds 2' in August 20, 1989. A cable holding a water tower to be dropped snapped unexpectedly knowing over a telephone pole onto Halicki killing him instantly. He was 48.

Just ONE More thing..By far the best chase car movie of all time. I grew up in LA where they filmed most of this. Back then the Harbor Freeway was the (11) not the (110) as it is today. You can definitely say that -“ Eleanor” was one FORD that truly was F-irst O-n R-ace D-ay..lol

For me this is the best car chase movie ever, second is Vanishing Point i lived in Denver when it was filmed and most of the locations are now gone...that's the only way to see how things looked...Denver was cool back then it was still rustic, as Los Angeles was...

My Dad had a Mustang like at the start of the video... same rims, Same Color or very close (it's been a while). Fords rusted like crazy! 2nd year, the radio antenna fell through the fender, also there was a hole in the trunk floor large enough for a loaf of bread to fit through. CRAZY !!

the one thing this movie does that no other movie with car chases does, is showing the after effects of the car chase, people getting hurt, emergancy vehicles having to be sent out to help them, the bad parts of the car chase.

Man movie is all the advertisement Ford would of needed to blast the competition into the dust. Or maybe "the Mustang that NO Mopar could catch!" Coolest chase scene ever! Dude had to have another Mustang!

Ronny Jasper That explains the small bumper. I had a '73 and it had a larger front bumper, which I believe was an updated because of crash standards.
'71 was last year for engines with respectable compression ratios.
