I just learned that John Schneider's wife, Alicia has passed away. I don't know any details, but one thing I do know is that John would appreciate the privacy at this time. John, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I am praying for you. I spoke quite a bit with Alicia at Bo's and also at Hazzard Fest as well. She was very sweet to me and always struck me as someone who was so smart with a big heart, strong head, and just a rockstar overall. John, stay strong through this hard time, and try to take comfort in knowing that your Smile is no longer suffering, and she has found peace. As for us in Hazzard Nation, may we come together and put differences aside to pray for John and Alicia's family through this hard time, while also respecting their privacy. God bless. Much love to you John, Alicia will be greatly missed. ❤🙏

20's woman in an SUV backed into the side of my mate's '49 Merc, and then got mad at HIM for being pissed, demanding to know why he was so upset over "just a crappy old car". Anyone your generation putting the time and effort into making videos about the iron we once sent to scrap and now regret in our nightly dreams (when i was driving age, any of those trucks were maybe a hundred bucks, and a '69 Charger could be had for $500) .. I am someone who has never seen dukes of hazard but has a love for old wreckers. The wreckers they used all towed with a sling except for the yellow Ford. Sling towing is where they hook a chain around the front axles of a car and lift with the winch. It’s really rough as the weight of the car is resting on two thin chairs and it scrapes the metal and rips the up paint. The black straps on all but the yellow Ford are so the chains don’t rip at the front of the car. (I recommend looking up sling towing on RUclips to get an idea of how it’s done) The fork looking things on the yellow Ford hold the tires up off the ground, which is much better for the car. It probably has a hydraulic tow bed which would be incredibly valuable back then as it was unheard of until the mid 90s. I think they knew the Ford was valuable and were too afraid to wreck it. Also, at 13:00 you might notice the truck isn’t the 67 Ford. The boom is different. I think it’s a Holmes 440. An eight thousand pound wrecker boom, which is used on, and only on the fourth GMC. It appears to have made an earlier appearance. Great video I thought you might find all this interesting.

Watching the show when I was young, I never really payed much attention to Cooter's tow trucks. I just thought that since he was a mechanic, he had several trucks, and just chose the truck needed for what he was called out to tow. Some of the trucks have tow dollies, and others were sling towers, and depending on the size or condition of the disabled vehicle, he just grabbed the one he needed. When he got a call on the CB radio, what ever truck he was in, that's the one he drove, to 'run interference'. Which ever one was out front at the time.

The reason that the red white and blue tow truck was used for the cliff scene is that the 67 was a cable drawn hoist where it can be moved out of the way , the yellow 1979 ford is a wheel loader where the forks can only be put up out of the way , the boom of it sticks passed the wrecker body about 2 feet passed it so that the boom can extend out and down to put the forks in between wheels and be strapped, rather than the 67 a cable drawn has a hook and a set of chains and a thick rubber shield aka the saddle part where that also can be used to push vehicles if positioned right or in this case stop a vehicle, it wasn't because it was older of a truck it was the damage it would do to the General Lee if they used the yellow 79. And to people who know tow trucks which was a larger part of the population of men back then especially watching it , it would be alot more realistic having a rubber saddle in the way to catch the car without damaging it than the 79 with a wheel loader boom that would damage the entire center of the car even with the forks positioned up for driving there is still about 6- 8 inches of boom sticking out .....

I like the change of tow trucks over seasons and bringing back trucks that you’ve seen in previous seasons because if you think about it he is a mechanic and owns a junkyard with no mechanic or junkyard dude is just gonna have one tow truck so that’s what I really like about it is that they were thinking other than them Just keeping Cooter in the same truck for all seasons and then for real I think that’s how they kept the People on their toes because you would never know if the boys will be driving General Lee I mean just instead of them just being in that one car all the time they were thinking about the person watching at home Specially when you see the tow trucks being different tow trucks and then in another episode seeing the tow truck with Cooters sticker on it kind of makes you imagine that you know Cooters Buying trucks out there

Growing up watching the show, I always wondered why there were so many different vehicles used as Cooter's tow trucks.....a few of which I'd forgotten about until now. I too used to chuckle when I'd see different trucks used in the same episode....lol. The one I can identify the most from the show with is the GMC, but my favorite was the 67 F-350 since I grew up with a Bumpside (still like them too, as they're definitely not as often seen as the GM trucks of the same era)Until recently I never knew about the X Files destroying the last GMC truck, was certainly sad to see it's fate, but I'm somewhat surprised it was still around to that point....too bad a Dukes collector couldn't have discovered and saved it somehow.....ah well, it lives on in film at least.

    • @ChunkeyMonkey40

The trucks were probably used routinely in various television shows and movies.
That would explain the various changes in decals and unrelated chronological order.
Maintenance shops will often have various vehicles for different purposes or in different stages of disrepair, so continuity for Cooter’s truck wouldn’t be important or need be explained.

It's not red, but it's got the push bar like the toy model.1967-1972 Chevrolet and GMC cabs are the same except for cosmetic changes like the grille, the leading edge of the hood, and quad headlights in the GMC. The Chevrolet truck at 10:22 has the 1967 style hood with the more sloped front edge.

  • @frankiem749

It's just more cost effective for greenlight to produce the tow truck with the Chevy grill since they already have the mold. Plus this way they don't have to get a license from GM for the GMC version since it's basically the same. And yeah greenlight probably added the "pushbar" top to the bumper to hide it. The strange thing is I believe that GMC trucks had the same grill from 67-72 while the Chevy grill changed every two years. 1967-68, 1969-70, and finally 1971-72.
