There are a number of continuity errors in that TV series, lol. It was always a low budget production. Many TV shows of the era were riddled with continuity errors. Remember, the picture quality of TV's was pretty low, then. Also, the largest screen sizes still tended to be smaller than the average screen size of today. And, too, black and white TV's were still widely used. So, paying attention to continuity wasn't quite as important, as it is now. It's also worth noting that, over time, motion picture sets, whether full feature films or TV production, have evolved from what was essentially an actual stage set (as in what you may find while attending the performance of a play), to something that appears far more "true to life". As television is an art that requires continuous production, with different and more strenuous budgeting concerns, TV was much slower at catching up to standards set by Hollywood.

Those cars made in GA were hand numbered and lettered by Ronnie Edwards who had a small sign shop that's was attached to my Father's Bail bonding business. One of the pictures in your video briefly shows it.
VIDEO ERRORS ADDRESSED: I get it, I messed up on a few things in the video. The engine of the General Lee was identified only once throughout the franchise, and that was in the 2005 movie where they stated it was a 426 Hemi. That's why I chose that as the answer. Yes they never actually used them, but in the movies and TV Show that is the only time it was stated, so I chose it. Because its a cool engine, and the General Lee is the "fastest car in hazzard." And although some of you claim I messed up talking about the paint, I didnt. The stunt actors said the color was never exact for years, it wasnt until recently when they started claiming corvette flame red as the color. The reality of it is, the stunt men are just giving you the answer you want to hear. Its close, but there is no exact color of the car.
@@bigitaly4554I've seen old footage of a Dodge stock car that sounded IDENTICAL to the General Lee, that car was running a race spec 383 (shame i cant seem to find the video now but I believe it was one of Kyle Petty's ARCA cars from 1979/1980)
I made a video correcting some of the mistakes in this version. I went into more detail for it, but there are several different colors confirmed for General Lee. Here's a link to that video so you can learn more: ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html
Harry yeaggy owns one- he picked us up in it to go to harps roller drome in Cincinnati. Look up,Harry yeaggy museum in Cincinnati. His had camera mounts which was rare
Corvette flame was actually the most used color on the general lee yes they did mix paints but they did this when they was running low on paint. Tom Samento and some of the builders themselves have confirmed this. The first 3 general Lee’s was originally painted hemi orange then repainted corvette flame because hemi orange had to much metallic in it
They have stated that, but they've also stated the same thing I did in this video plenty more times in the past. I think nowadays they just give people the answer they want to hear because at least it's an answer lol
@@ChunkeyMonkey40 I know of actual general Lee’s from the show that have been scanned that came back flame red. Of course there all going to look a little different depending on what color the car is there painting over
@@genemaverick5705 I know he said that but the builders themselves and Tom Sarmento lead mechanic have all confirmed corvette flame was the color used the most
sometimes the interior was a dark brown because that was the velvuzet's used for some episodes they were really inconsistent. The engine the car had in the show was a 440 and in reality they had pretty much any engine that was thrown into the car. this information is coming from the lead mechanic on the show, Tom Sarmento. Now, mr Sarmento claims there was 1 stick shift car for the whole show. it was a 413 car with a 4 speed, the stunt guys hated that car.
Brother I love how you’re very knowledgeable about The Dukes Of Hazzard. That General Lee Lee 01 is owned now by Bubba Watson. The very first General Lee built by Warner Brother was Lee #03 it was a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T SE 440 Metallic Green with a vinyl tan roof. The car it was used from the first and second season. It was finally destroyed in the episode The Meeting when they jump over the creek. The most important General Lee is the Last R/T 440 car that was used in the Last 3 seasons for High Performance Driving and Burnouts!!! That was out of the last 17 that survived. That guy Bob Hartwig of Movies Machines owned it since 1991.Now Chris of Chromecars own it.The other engines that they used were 318 Small Blocks Mopar V8’s for the ski car they also used 383 Big blocks 2 and for barrel carburetor and the big block 440 Mopar V8’s which has a four barrel carburetor and aftermarket engines come with the 6 barrel carburetor. They destroyed 329 General Lee’s plus over 600 police cars.Theres another General Lee at the ending credits without the roll bar was used for Season 01 and Season 2 episode, called The Rustlers. That was restored by the Smith Brothers and it shown at SEMA 2011.Then there’s WBGL Car#28 From Season 4 to Season 7 that Cory Eubanks drove while filming. That’s the car in the 6th Season Enos Last Chance when Frank Scallion comes to get his revenge for testifying against him. When you see the truck lid fly open and the burn out after Daisy Bo And Luke are driving on the Warner Brothers Backlot is that car.Even when you see the car coming out of the Alleyway.I really love your videos and I would line to make some content with you someday pal!!! And you probably didn’t know this,But they use a single shot of nitrous on the jump cars!!!!! The General Lee’s paint code is called TNT Express!!!
Yes, the color for Lee 1 was proven when they rebuilt the car, but each General Lee was a slight different shade of Orange. There isn't just one color for the car.
The Antenna on the back is for the CB not the regular car radio. That is the one the Tom (Luke Duke) Wopat broke off in that scene from the opening credits. There already was an CB Antenna on the trunk before the hood slide Antenna breaking off. That has Nothing to do with moving the antenna from the front to the back ChunkerMonkey40. Please get that correct in the feature, Thank you.

I remember watching a Lee restoration video not long after high school, taking note of some pictures showing the original cast signing the hatch to the glove compartment. A few years later at our towns Fall Festival, they had a car show and parade where a General Lee drove in. I managed to find it and have a look inside. Sure enough, there was the glove compartment with all the signatures written on it. Small world.
One thing you messes up was the paint color. On the TV show Graveyard cars they restored a General Lee. The owner of the shop that was doing the restoration got in contact with several people who built and painted the General Lee stunt cars, and it was agreed upon that at first three different colors were used two were factory GM colors one was a AMC color. For the first season or two there was no standard color by the third season the color was standardized to AMC Big Bad Orange a color used by AMC from 1968 to 1970 on specialized AMC Javelin and AMX cars

Growing up in the country. We didn't have cable TV. My aunt recorded alot 40-60 ish episodes on VHS So I could watch them at her house. Think my mom still had them .
I would tend to agree with you on that one General Lee that’s more important than Lee 1. It lasted from at least season three to the end of the show. If you look at a dvd from a convention Travis Bell did from 2003 in Covington and Conyers Georgia, Tom Sarmento tells us that both automatic and manual transmissions were used on the show. For the close-ups, automatic center console all the way. For the jump cars, didn’t matter. There are a couple of scenes that the General Lee gets so high you see the underneath of the car. Very hard to tell but you can see some manual transmissions were used. No biggie. Great video overall. I’m definitely a fan of your channel. One last question for you. Everybody knows about the RadioShack teardrop antenna, Avanti Racer antenna and the Cobra 78X cb radio. Do you know what the other make and model CB radio was? I’ll give you a hint. It’s in the episode Big Brothers Duke from season 5.
Hey Chunky Monkey! Great stuff as always on the General Lee and The Dukes of Hazzard! But I must correct 2 things for you. In one of the episodes in Georgia, the interior was black once. It may have been the episode where they drove around junk yard/with the Starsky/Hutch car! The engines were never 340's! The Charger never came with a 340 engine. A few were 318,mostly 383 engines. Very few 440's,due to your reasoning as well. The 383 was most preferred, due to its more HP than the sb 318. Here's another fun fact for ya..they took the ratchet/locking mechanism out of the emergency brake on the floor,so they could use it more fluently to do boot leg turns. Great stuff as usual tho man!! You remind me of myself as a young man, when it comes to the Dukes! Yee Haw!
the DOH was cool, it inspired me to buy a charger my first one is what i thought WAS a 69 charger, rear window plug and bondo over the holes for a rear wing told me i found a daytona=she still has her original engine and trans, and is restored, my second is a triple black rt , my third is my driver a yellow and blak striped clone of the one in dirty mary crazy larry, and NO none will be painted to look like the general lee
I jumped a Plymouth Fury lll 55 1/2 feet several times because loved show so much..actually stopped when saw General Lee outside closed Restaurant..while driving OTR just sitting out front..I said to myself it can be repaired..I have dreams someday of 69/70 any mutant dress coded with 572 Hemi..no matter my age..will keep it to myself though..but midnight rides for sure..thanks hope your well..
I remember my student teacher assistant said she had a brother who owned a General Lee. And he would get pulled over almost every single time, probably because of the Confederate Battle Flag. So he sold it.
General Lee Chargers generally had (bad pun there) the motors the cars had when WB acquired them. 318s, 340s, 360s, 383s, & 440s. Lee #26, 32 & 35 were 68' Chargers, Lee 26 was an R8 Burgundy Poly 68' Charger, (Corey Eubanks's favorite car) that particular car got damaged during filming, and a white charger gave up it's front clip (watch the Knight Rider Historians video, the engine bay is a combination of Alpine White and R8 Burgundy Poly.) Lee 32 was a turquoise 68' with a 383, 3.23 suregrip rear end and white interior Lee 35 (ski car) was a 68' Charger with power windows
Awesome video bro!!! You Purdy much hit the nail on the head with all the facts and details :). Every thing I was thinking you pretty much said in the video lol. I'm surprised you didn't mention WhistlinDiesel general. But keep up the good videos bro ☺️ #OrangeCarsMatter.
BEFORE YOU COMMENT ABOUT THE MISTAKES MADE IN THIS VIDEO: I have since re-made this video and corrected ALL of the mistakes. Give the new version a watch, here's a link: ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html
When I was little probably about 1983 I saw a general Lee across the street and I broke into it and sat in there pretending I was driving my mom saw me and came out and tried to pull me out and I remember hanging on the steering wheel like nooooooo! As she was trying to spank my hands off the wheel! So if you have a general Lee and I'm sitting in it you better call my mom.
That's awesome and I believe you! As an obscure reference, when the movie "coal miners daughter" was filmed, part of it was made in Blackey, Ky. My cousin fired up his dad's 1953 Ford pickup and drove it about 4 miles to the shooting sight. I never found that truck in the film but it's in there parked on main street when they do the overhead shot of the then bustling coal mining town.
So I wanted to shed light on things that I knew that you may not. Bubba Watson stated after all hell broke loose with the dukes fans that he currently had the General in storage. With all the back lash he got scared. Travis bell stated with new technology that they did determine that the actual color for the car is TNT express. I looked up that color after hear Ing about it and if anything it’s pretty damn close. I believe that was off a vin wiki episode I watched. You heard the same as I with the amount used and even Ben Jones (Cooter) himself stated at their reunion barbecue that the count for cars used was 321, and even like you stated probably doesn’t include the promotion cars and such. As for myself, being a big dukes fan found a 68 charger that I’ve been restoring. Iike your content bro. Keep it up.
Thank you! But the one thing I can say, is that what Travis Bell stated is true, for only Lee 1, it is not true for any of the other General Lees. They all look extremely similar, but through the 7 seasons there was about 10 different color variations used for the color of the General Lee. They mixed the paint, and kept going until they made it into the ballpark of the color they were shooting for.
I made an updated version of this video going into further detail about some of the things that I messed up in this video. You should go check it out, you'll learn a lot! Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html
I actually owned a General Lee but had to sell it to survive after a nasty divorce. But I'm pretty sure in the pilot episode where they went to the junk yard for a car, the narrator said they found a 68 charger, but when it rolled out of Cooter's garage it was a 69 General Lee. It's been forever since I watched the series, but I'm sure the narrator said 68, so I always thought it was a blooper that was never caught in editing
I like the 1969 General Lee Dodge charger!!!! But my favorite Dodge Charger is the 1968 that was in the movie "Bullet" with Steve McQueen!!!!😁😊🙂😀😄😁 Just looks cool and mean!!!! Where the Dukes Of Hazzard Dodge Charger looks cool and happy!!!!😂😂😂😂😂 P.S.: At the time The Dukes Of Hazzard TV show was made, the classic/muscle car hobby craze wasn't out of control and crazy expensive like it is today!!!!! 69 Dodge Chargers you can still find every where because they were only 10 year old automobiles at the time!!!! I was 9 years old when Dukes Of Hazzard first aired!!!!( I'm now 51years old now!😁) I thought the the show was so cool because it reminded me a lot of Smokey And The Bandit the movie!!!!😁😄😁😄😀🙂😊
I question the validity of the claim that the Dixie Horn was discovered during the filming of "High Octane" simply because "One-Armed Bandits" was the first episode shot, and it features the horn. At the end of the episode, during Sheriff Roscoe's party, you can even see John Schneider manually engage the horn by reaching through the window. The story I'd always heard was that Gy Waldron was "down south" somewhere scouting locations prior to filming, when the aforementioned El Camino blasted past them blaring the horn. The chased the fellow down and wound up paying the dude DOUBLE for the Horn they could've easily bought at JC Whitney for $50 bucks. Oh and no 340's were ever used in any General Lee simply because.... Charger's could not come equipped with the 340 engine. Many were 318 cars, most were 383's and a few 440's. There is a production note somewhere that told the "wrangling crew" to avoid 6-cylinder cars, because of the amount of time required to upgrade to a V8 and the associated running gear. Yes, they did make 6-cylinder Chargers. Very few. I think for 1969 there were only something like 128 of them. But it was available 1968 through 1972 as a "Credit Option".
I know there was one Charger fitted with a 340 it was the one that was put together buy a place called the "Chassis Shop", It was heavily reinforced and did a few jumps, the first jump in opening intro is the "Chassis Shop" General, notice how well it lands with no body buckling, I remember reading that it had alloy heads to save weight and was a real screamer, the stunt guys loved it, they were experimenting with making the Chargers last for more than one jump but in the end they just went back to wrecking a car for each jump

The stunt actors said the color was never exact for years, it wasnt until recently when they started claiming corvette flame red as the color. The reality of it is, the stunt men are just giving you the answer you want to hear. Its close, but there is no exact color of the car.
To me, when cranking them up….most of the sound used on the show sounded like the 383. The starters on those era of Dodges have such an amazing sound
@@bigitaly4554I've seen old footage of a Dodge stock car that sounded IDENTICAL to the General Lee, that car was running a race spec 383 (shame i cant seem to find the video now but I believe it was one of Kyle Petty's ARCA cars from 1979/1980)
There IS a published color for the General. Its called TNT Express. TNT Express didnt reflect light back and show the camera while filming.
I hate how people get offended by this, it's the past
In One Armed Bandits Lee 01 was the original color and a blue steering wheel
Of course there all going to look a little different depending on what color the car is there painting over
JS has said that color never was used on the GL , who really knows , lol
@@genemaverick5705 I know he said that but the builders themselves and Tom Sarmento lead mechanic have all confirmed corvette flame was the color used the most
@@Jeremey72 I heard that too , then JS said no it wasn’t , lol
sometimes the interior was a dark brown because that was the velvuzet's used for some episodes they were really inconsistent.
The General Lee that did the 32 car jump used to sit on Hwy 11W in Rogersville TN
Yes, the color for Lee 1 was proven when they rebuilt the car, but each General Lee was a slight different shade of Orange. There isn't just one color for the car.
Exactly
50 shades of orange
The Antenna on the back is for the CB not the regular car radio. That is the one the Tom (Luke Duke) Wopat broke off in that scene from the opening credits. There already was an CB Antenna on the trunk before the hood slide Antenna breaking off. That has Nothing to do with moving the antenna from the front to the back ChunkerMonkey40. Please get that correct in the feature, Thank you.

I seen the clip from Ryan upchurch's music video dukes of hazard and had to put the hook here. Keep it up bud🤘
Nice!
As I said in the video, the stunt drivers have just begun giving answers because they're sick of the question. But what John said is the truth
I made an updated version of this video, going into further detail about some of the things that I didn't quite get right in this version. You should watch it, you will learn quite a bit: ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html

Lmao that shit drives me crazy!!!! Like ppl watch the show before you talk about it 🤣
Growing up in the country. We didn't have cable TV. My aunt recorded alot 40-60 ish episodes on VHS So I could watch them at her house. Think my mom still had them .
Great video. You did a helluva job.
Thank you!!!
That one smart car that said General Wee had me dyin jus cause of the name😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome content bro!
Thanks brother!!! And thank you for letting me use some of your pictures too!!
How many Original screen used used Genral Lee's are still around ?
Only 17 Real General Lees still exist
Yee Haw!
All this stuff has been brought up so many times... and i even made a video correcting this as well. ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html
In the First season DVD Dukes of Hazzard Réunion Barbecue Ben Jones said 309 and the exact color is TNT Express
the DOH was cool, it inspired me to buy a charger my first one is what i thought WAS a 69 charger, rear window plug and bondo over the holes for a rear wing told me i found a daytona=she still has her original engine and trans, and is restored, my second is a triple black rt , my third is my driver a yellow and blak striped clone of the one in dirty mary crazy larry, and NO none will be painted to look like the general lee
Someone by me had a boattail riveria painted like the general lee
I jumped a Plymouth Fury lll 55 1/2 feet several times because loved show so much..actually stopped when saw General Lee outside closed Restaurant..while driving OTR just sitting out front..I said to myself it can be repaired..I have dreams someday of 69/70 any mutant dress coded with 572 Hemi..no matter my age..will keep it to myself though..but midnight rides for sure..thanks hope your well..
And that 440 General Lee car needs to be restored also.
okay now there was some things that I did not know and some that I did cool video keep up the cool general lee videos
There actually is a confirmed color of Lee 1. And the color was chosen quite carefully. Just so ya know.
No its not, thats the color of LEE 1. Just that general. Lee 3 is a different color code, and so is every other general lee.
I remember my student teacher assistant said she had a brother who owned a General Lee. And he would get pulled over almost every single time, probably because of the Confederate Battle Flag. So he sold it.
They chose the Charger R/T because the Chevelle was too expensive! Now most ’69 Charger R/Ts (not painted orange) are over $100K!!!!
LOL right! It's crazy to think that Jess 25 years ago you can get one of those cars for about $500-$1000
@@ChunkeyMonkey40 Even the Hot Wheels are all ~$40 and up!

I always wondered if the legendary Buzz Bundy did the skiing stunts on the show? He is known for doing them on Knight Rider.
Orange cars matters 👍
General Lee Chargers generally had (bad pun there) the motors the cars had when WB acquired them. 318s, 340s, 360s, 383s, & 440s.
Lee #26, 32 & 35 were 68' Chargers,
Lee 26 was an R8 Burgundy Poly 68' Charger, (Corey Eubanks's favorite car) that particular car got damaged during filming, and a white charger gave up it's front clip (watch the Knight Rider Historians video, the engine bay is a combination of Alpine White and R8 Burgundy Poly.)
Lee 32 was a turquoise 68' with a 383, 3.23 suregrip rear end and white interior
Lee 35 (ski car) was a 68' Charger with power windows
G’day from South Australia 🇦🇺 that was awesome!
Thank you!!!
the antennae on the back is a C.B. one not am/fm , also regardless of snapping it off AS a Racecar it would have to be rmoved anyway.
Never said it was am/fm fckhead, maybe rewatch the video again only this time use ur fckin brain
After Warner Bros. took over building the cars midway through the 4th season, they spray painted the interiors light tan/cream color.
Very Informative... great job with video...

The general lee interior an steering wheel was white in the 3 Season
Great video!

I discovered in a video by VINwiki that the orange color the General Lee, is TNT Express Orange.
The color is standard MOPAR orange. in the 60's you could order practically any car under the MOPAR umbrella made in that shade of orange
Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/Yt3vzdX8I9A/видео.html
so was it a column shit or a center console shift??
Center console, to my knowledge there weren't any column shift 69 chargers lol, ive seen a lot of general lees but never a column shift one
I believe the colour of orange turned out to be TNT orange.
That is for Lee 1, every general lee was slightly different
