- It's always fun to shoot and drive cars that we all recognize and this one was incredible to drive! This is the only survivor 440 R/T Charger from the Dukes of Hazzard. Of the 17 hero Chargers left this is the only one that is a true 440 R/T car. This is a true piece of American muscle car history and as iconic as it gets. No, we didn't jump it or get any air but plenty of burnouts and donuts to keep you guys happy.
Sit back and enjoy the ride!

I'm a black man. I grew up watching the Dukes. I love that car.
Thank you for saying that. It’s made into something it’s not. 👊
Hi five to my brotha...
Im an illegal alien and i love this car
I'm a random American of a random mix of random colors, and I love this car.
Tell me ONE time race came into play on this show. I’ll wait and I’M a BLACK MAN!! Doesn’t mean racism doesn’t exist but THIS show was about the damn car!!!
"The Dukes Of Hazzard" introduced me to fast cars, driving recklessly, corrupt government officials, and beautiful women...
I am forever grateful
Git Git Git 😎
Lemmy K. Is God 😂😂
it taught me bad guys always drive sedans
you & me both brotha. but let us not forget SMOKEY & THE BANDIT as well. that pretty much started everything.
In the blame somebody else age. I kinda blame the Dukes, the Bandit, A -Team, Starsky and Hutch, Knight Rider, Canon Ball Run and the Fall Guy for my irresponsible driving and the need to slide anything I am driving around a dirt road corner. Plenty of them where I live. But damn it is fun and never gets old.
@@aleew20 who do i blame for my constant need to jump a creek, or a passing train, or a police blockade & such?
Urrgh. Shameless plug on the push bar. Takes away from the originality big time
Vinyl sticker. No big deal and the Chrome Cars guys just want visibility for their company.
@@AutotopiaLA so then run an ad on the video?
That V8 rumble and those burnouts had me grinning the whole time
Awesome!! Me too 👊
I loved this show when I was growing up! This era Chargers are HUGE. They are 16 feet long and 6 feet wide! I have actually seen Ben Jones' (COOTER) own personal General Lee up in Luray Virginia. The engine sounded like the apocalypse. It was flawless.
Never missed a episode when I was a kid.........Fall guy, Knight Rider, Dukes of Hazzard
And Airwolf and Street Hawk.
Carolus Magnus dumbass. After family ties you should have stopped the list. Asshole monkey garage sucks and is all fake. And where the fuck does flip this house fit into this line up? Moron
The executive producer of the Dukes of Hazzard, Paul Romeo Picard was my maternal grandmother's first cousin so that means he's my first cousin twice removed. Paul's father Romeo Joseph Picard was my 2nd great uncle and was my great grandfather's older brother. I even have old family photographs that has both Paul's parents in them his father Romeo and his mother Irene. I've also gotten in touch with his sister's granddaughter and grandson just recently. Where they told me that Paul's sister Claire is suffering from the early stages of dementia today and she's still living today in Maryland. I never met Paul himself growing up but I do know some of Claire's grandchildren and her children did know the man personally and has met him. The reason for that is the Picard family never had good family reunions both when my mother or when I was growing up. So myself or my mother never got to know anyone from her mother's side of the family all that much since they never once got together when I was growing up. Also I never once remembered ever seeing any extended family member from my Picard family ever coming to my grandmother's house not once when I visited her when I was growing up but only I got to know her mother my great grandmother only at her home and that was it. But I do think it would've been nice to have met my grandmother's cousin Paul before he died in Italy of Pancreatic Cancer in 1994. But the thing was we always did know about my grandmother's cousin Paul growing up because back then my grandmother did like to brag about Paul being the executive producer of the Dukes of Hazzard television show back in the late 70s early 80s according to my mother. The plus thing was I wasn't born until the end of the year of 1984 by the way so I was very little and I was almost 10 years old when Paul died and living in Arizona at that time.
Knight Rider was gay!
Hell yeah man I used to get out of my mom’s car by sliding out open window lol
take that sticker off the brush guard, ruins it completly!!
I agree
Buy the car off the guy, and you may peel it off yourself.
They probably only put it on for the shoot.
One sticker ruins the entire car. Ok.

I agree & I have a bunch of the toys by Ertl
Still want one of these but with a 4 speed stick
I was glued to the TV.
A few years later, my dad became a private pilot and had a plane at a small airport.
One of the repair facilities was called Schneider Aviation, it was johns father.
he had a soap box derby car up on the wall, painted up in general lee garb.
John was known to pop by at any time.
Good stuff.
MrHillfolk great connections and memories. I love to see that soo many others loved the show as much as I did.
Sorry.... the General Lee, did not, and would not have. WWW. anything written on the push bumper.... TAKE IT OFF
Nob the Knave no I’m guessing it’s because they wouldn’t be sellouts
@@jaboi1108 Sellouts? Bitch, you know how hard it is to make anything on the gay ass platform anymore.
A buddy of mine worked gassing up General Lee's in the morning (bunch of them on a car hauler) before the days shooting and, being a MOPAR fan almost cried at the end of the day when he saw them wrecked on another car hauler.
If they were in NASCAR they would have sponsors :P
@Nob the Knave because it's the 80s are you dumb?
The saddest thing of all is that shows like this and Knight Rider and CHiPS will never ever be repeated.
So happy you guys burnt some rubber off those tires the way you did . That's the way the general was meant to be driven !
TrustMe ImAMechanic hell yes!
Aand the Lee is meant to be jumped/flied with
Hi there I'm from northern Ireland and to me it takes a lot of power to smoke the rears as your moving ,we over here don't have many cars that can do that , looks class
Where?
@@jimwright5492 I used to drive cars like that when i was a teenager, there is nothing like driving a big block V8 if you've never experienced it, it's hard to describe other than you have to learn to drive with that much power, they have so much torque it's easy to lose it if you're not careful, it's like driving a rocket. You cannot floor one of those without smoking the tires, that's the way real cars were/are.

The General Lee was the boss. Legendary.
Several weeks ago I had my picture taken sitting in another classic TV vehicle, the Sanford and Son pickup.
Love the car, HATE the URL on the Pushbar.
I get it but they want to give visibility to their company and it’s just a vinyl sticker
putting that damn sticker on it is like pissing on it. a true car guy wouldnt disrespect the general lee like that.
the sticker says www.chromecars(dot)de the website for the owners of the car which is why it's there 😤🤬 SMH it's only there as atheir advertisement SMH..!!
The only thing I hate about the show is they destroyed a lot of 69 chargers
Also 68's but still love em, after all dodge built more than 300:p
No one cared about cars like this back then except for gear head's, at the end of the 70's there had been huge increases in gas prices and bad inflation, in 1972 I was at the county fair with my family and half of the cars in the demolition derby were 55-57 Chevys, they're not classic until they get rare and old.
John Marston I hear you but they were 10 year old cars that no one was interested in at the time.
It is missing side marker and back-up lights.
it was probably a 68 converted to A 69. @@jamesdennis2058
That 440 hops !!! There's nothing like a high-compression, classic 440 Magnum.

Iconic piece of history. One of my favorite shows growing up, that I watched religiously just to see the car jump. As an artist myself, I posted a video of a small scale diorama that I created of the General Lee’s first jump.

Thank you for "keeping it real" with leaving the rebel flag on the roof.
Nothing rebel about the flag.....if you represent white supremacy then you should be proud of what your people did and are continuing to do to African Americans. You probably don’t even know the definition of the word REBEL means anyway. Stay racist and don’t change.

Notice too that it has a 1968 rear valence. The 1969 has reverse lights there while the '68 has them integrated into the tail light.
Or it might be a 69 valance with the lights removed. The removed the reverse and side marker lights when WB started building the cars.
68 had the better rear end imo.

My dream car! I fell in love with this car when I was 10 years old watching the Dukes of Hazzard as a kid. I'm 51 now and I still love this car. I hope to own one one day.
So thankful you featured this one! This video and all the Superformance videos are my favorite car videos on RUclips! As someone planning a next level General Lee restomod, I truly appreciate you featuring a survivor from the series! Once you own one you begin hating the show because they purposely destroyed things that so many people appreciate. However, I’m all in on preserving them, and I love my General Lee! Love the sound of that exhaust! I plan on making mine very aggressive on the exhaust!
When the Dukes of Hazzard was pulled from the airwaves a few years back for inciting 'racism,' Tom Schneider was heart broken, to say the least. I agree with Tom: There was nothing racist about that show whatsoever, and there wasn't. The show was pulled over the Stars and Bars on the hood, but - to this day - The Cosby Show is still on Amazon Prime, and we see how things turned out for Bill Cosby.
That's actually not the stars and bars
@@weaslemin7728 I meant for the show.
I don’t know why people are so against the Rebel flag after all it’s a Democratic flag! Has absolutely nothing to do with Republicans.
If anything was racist about the show, it was stereotyping white country people. Jeesh. I agree nothing racist at all. Just a TV show.
😂😂😂"Tom Schneider" i think u mean "John Schneider"
Fun fact, only a few of the cars had a roll cage and only a few had welded doors, most would actually open. They switched from smaller bull bars to larger bull bars because at some of the filming locations other vehicles would get stuck so they would use the general lee to push them. A larger bull bar meant less of the car would get damaged so that’s why after the first couple of episodes they switched to larger bull bars.
Good fact check here!
One mistake. All the cars had opening doors (ask Tom Sarmento the mechanic, I did) the "welded shut doors" was just a sort of running gag for the tie-in to stockcar racing and NAscar
The BEST show on television EVER!!!
Cars have been my whole life. I LOVE tv and movie cars!!!!! My sons have the same love for them. Thank you for saving, maintaining and most of all sharing these beautiful cars with everyone. Thank you!!!!!

As a young guy watching this car do what it did, I then based my younger days on outrunning the local popo!! On sportbikes though!! I did believe that all you ever needed was a bright orange charger and daisy duke!! Ahhh great memories, thanks Shawn and autopia for another Awesome video!!!
C Carlson awesome!! Would love to have had Daisy next to me while shooting. Probably wouldn’t have brought the car back 😂
When I was a kid a friend of mine had a 1968 440 GTX, it didn't sound as good as this one but it definitely pushed you back in that seat and smoked up the tires, we didn't appreciate what we had back then. 440's are great motors.
Great motors for sure!

The Charger is one of the most perfect muscle cars ever produced
@@AutotopiaLA I agree 100%
Wish I had your job, hahaha!!! Wow, this car is So special! I'm glad he knew All that cool trivia! This, by the way, is one of the 1968 dressed General Lee's. No taillights in the rear valance, no sidemarkers are always '68s. Another cool thing is that it's a column shift car! That's Cool! I know some trivia but I learned some Great things!!! That's quite awesome to think of a day when this car could be bought for $1600 bucks! And a Lot of people Hate The Dukes for what happened to the said 321 Chargers, but like he said: they were 10 years old. I'd wreck a 10 year old car and not give it a second thought as well... Hahaha, now, maybe that's why 1968 Chevelles kept popping up in a handful of episodes. Going to make me appreciate those cameos more from now on! This was just Perfect!!! Oh, one thing he didn't mention was that they dyed the tan in, in the cars used from late season 5 forward. It came off looking more beige... This is why the mirror matches the paint in this car, which usually would have been black with the neck chrome. I can't say Thank You, enough! Thanks for showing off *The* General Lee, Hahahaha! Awesome!!!! And, it sounds bitchin' too, hahaha!
Killer comment here! I loved the trivia Bob had to offer. He knows the show, the cars and the history of picture cars as good or better than anyone.
The fact that it’s the RT and not just thrown in there afterwards is super amazing. I also remember those wild roll bars, it was what made the car look so rad apart from that insane orange
I was 4 yrs old when the Dukes of Hazzard first aired on TV in 79 so I grew up watching this car on TV this is my dream car

Brenton K awesome!! Such a cool piece of American muscle car history
@@AutotopiaLA yeah! They don't make cars like that anymore.
I started watching that show because I literally grew up with Chargers. My grandpa bought a brand new 68 the year I was born, then when gas got too expensive because of OPEC, he traded it in on a brand new 73. I remember both cars very well. I actually still have the 73.
Awesome!! Love it 👊
That is a crazy jump @2:25! The General Lee has long been my favourite TV series muscle car, it has a such great profile.
During making the general lee they used a mixture orange paint thrown together and they used tape for the flag on the top. A lot of the Chargers had 318, to a 440 engine. The roll cage wasn't completely in the car during filming. They added it for detail and looks. Remember during filming they would have the car on a camera rig.sometimes towed or pulled the car. Some of them had no.windshields . still a great show always loved it. Also the horn wasn't an air horn. It was originally an electronic horn made back in the 70s it had a different sound in the show. If you can find any remaining electronic horns grab them it's worth it.
Dude i was 6 years old the 1st time i saw the general and ive been in love ever since!!!
Hoagie Sherlin awesome! Such an iconic car!

A bity about the door handles and the doors not welded shut watching the duke boys climbing in and out of the general was apart of the excitement to me any how
Jason Peters Bob is a long time picture car guy and he said the doors did open but to keep the bootlegger/Nascar theme they climbed through the windows.
Jason Peter's, just wondered what do you mean about the door handles? Ok I'm a former Grneral Lee owner, it would suck major ass if the doors were really welded shut. Its murder on the door skin, the door and your back. Plus how would you shut the windows if it was raining or you wanted to lock it up?
I would always get a good laugh when I'd go to a car show open the door to get out and a grown adult would spaz out that I did'nt go through the window. I'd still own my lee had it not have been stolen. If you get the chance. I highly recommend getting one it is a huge blast all the time.
@@AutotopiaLA Uncle Jessie had to get in too.
Watch the series again lol even as a 5 year old I saw all the scenes where the doors would move while driving
My mistake they still kept the door handles on I thought they took them off
The doors are from a 68 charger. In 69 the inside lock button was moved forward.
I was going to say the exact same thing. I wonder if they have been on there since the car was used on Dukes or if they were added during the restoration.
Jason Wandling picture cars are like Lego’s on set. Grab this and put it there. Cool, now shoot!

For those that don't know, in the video they say that 69's came with disc brakes, kind of implying that disc brakes were standard. 69 Chargers were available with 4-piston Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes and 10" rear drums as an option. The standard set up was 10" diameter drums at all four wheels. On 440/426 Hemi equipped cars (R/T, Charger 500, Daytona) 11" Drum brakes aka "police brakes" we're standard on all four wheels. The vast majority of Chargers were equipped with 4 wheel drums.
Thanks for clarifying. I didn’t even know discs were an option which is great given the time period
If I remember correctly disc brakes were first an option on the big C-body MoPars in 1966. I know they were available on the A and B body cars as early as 68. They became standard on all B, C, and E body cars, and all V-8 powered A bodies in the 1973 model year when the US government implemented a new set of minimum braking standards. The 6 cyl A-body cars got 10" front drums like the ones previously used on V-8 cars paired with the 9" drums that had always been used. Disc brakes were an option on the 6-cylinder cars.
At the corner of Ledge Ave and San Fernando Rd South in Sun Valley, Ca were stored about 15 General Lees around the time of the later seasons of Dukes of Hazzard. Burbank is adjacent to Sun Valley and the show was done in Burbank. I remember seeing them when visiting someone I knew that lived next door.
They need to lose nether tacky www ad off the pushbar
As “the most important general lee” is should remain authentic in my opinion.
Aside from being one of the original surviving cars from the tv series, it is also sort or rare as not many factory
R/T Chargers had the column shifter. Most were either 4 speeds or the Torque Flite cars had the shifter in the center console, between the bucket seats. Good Day Everyone!
The General Lee was always one of my favorite tv cars, and my favorite movie car was the 71 Cuda from the 1979 horror movie "Phantasm" ..... a black 340 4 speed car which the production company made it to look like a "Cuda 440 6bbl". Two awesome cars.
Thanks for showing us that there is a real one left and it still drives! I enjoyed your video Man
Glad you enjoyed it. So cool that it’s a rare survivor from the show
You’re so lucky! I’d love to drive that beast!
I know. This was so cool to drive and even the slow horn didn’t bother me...thought it was funny
The horn sounds too slow. Is there a leak on one of those hoses?
The Dixie horn are usually fast and they have 5 horns.
It needs compression from the engine
Mr. Nationwide there’s a few tweaks to be done on this car including the slow horn
Could be a under rated cable to the compressor
I attended a Dukes of Hazard festival a few years back- Seeing the Bristol speedway full of orange Chargers was something I'll never forget.
It’s simply one of the most iconic cars ever
So cool since 7 yrs old always been a fan of the Dukes of Hazzard shows and actors Ive met Sheriff Rosco n Luke Duke best thing would been to meet the actors on the Dukes
👊
I've been a fan since I was 10 years old and I'm 51 now. I still love the show and the car. I met John Schneider in Toronto and Catherine Bach in Nashville in 2006 at Dukesfest. There were over 100,000 people there over the two day event. Pretty impressive for a TV show that's been off the air for over 30+ years. There were about 50 General Lee's from all over the US and Canada on display. It was awesome! And I got to see Corey Eubanks (one of the original stuntmen from the show) jump a General Lee over 200 feet! What a great weekend! Long live the Dukes and the General Lee!

Generally did not have a www sticker on it hello.
It’s just a sticker. Comical that with a survivor from the show that the sticker gets comments 😂
Yep didnt have it.
The first 200 people before you already said it shut the hell up
I'd love to pick up a Charger for $1600.00 !!!!!!!
From what I’ve read they offer Charger owners 500 of that 1600 limit. Put into perspective the Chargers popularity pre-Dukes.
LincolnTek you and me both
Back in the 80s that might have been possible
Well, you need a time machine like the DeLorean and go back in 1979 and then pick one up for 1600$ and then you'll have to live in the 80's and meet KITT from Knight Rider head to head to compete with jumps.
65.000$ for a stock refurbished one last time i checked ...
My wife's Uncle, Larry West (West Signs in Roswell, GA still there today) hand painted the first 7 or 8 General Lee cars for the show before Warner Bros. moved over to vinyl decals for quicker turnaround as the show picked up production pace. We've got some cool photos, etc. Uncle Larry went to high school with John Schneider and it was a small network back then. He's done so much stuff over the years, all the way up to current with Fast & Furious and all other types of movie productions. There are so many stories! It was also cool to see his work being uncovered and restored on things like General Lee #1 (the opening credits jump car), which was saved from a Metro Atlanta junk yard back in 2011 I believe, and eventually sold to Bubba Watson via Barrett-Jackson (Google for the story). Uncle Larry's health is failing these days and other family members run the business, but I thought I'd comment here because it is always cool to see stuff like this out there!
Thanks for the comment and great story. Sorry to hear his health is failing but I appreciate you sharing this with us 👊
Finally at 43 I’m gonna be driving a general lee charger next month for 6 miles on a track, it’s also stated that it’s a genuine car from the show with a few of the actors signature on the boot(trunk)
It was my favourite show and car when I was a kid and it’s still my dream car to this day, to say I’m excited is an understatement,
After watching this and hearing that car roar had just added even more excitement, not many of these beasts here in the U.K.
Horns a little special on this one..."der-pa deeeeer-pa deeer-pity deeeeeeeer-pa deeeeer-pa."
matthewboylez34 a little slower but it makes it even funnier for me
That 440 sounds so good with that exhaust. This car bring back some good memories of Friday evening viewing at 8 o'clock.
I’m with you 👊
When Bo & Luke were replaced, it just wasn't the same. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. That was fun!
u make my day every time i see ur videos
keep up the good job
Awesome! We’re having fun doing these
I can live with the lame sicker on the pushbar cause it's still got the flag on the roof!!
And it’s just a simple sticker for the company. No big deal although some folks are freaking out here!

My all time favorite car!
I like the stance with the tall rear end lol.
That was fun! Took me back to childhood for a moment .Thank you!
Love the general lee awesome!
The mkI escort was gorgeous also
Any true fan of the show knows slowing down the horn like that increases your altitude by 50ft at least. That's how you know this is the real deal.
😂 funny comment bro 👊
So true...a slow horn sequence meant a scary jump and freeze frame followed by a commercial
@@looseele I can't believe you left out "short, suspenseful Waylon monologue"... for shame.
The reason the push bars are different is because there was two different shops that built GL's for Warner Bros.
Thanks for sharing, even here in Australia, the car was a big deal. I remember watching it in the 80s as a kid.
Glad you liked it. It was a big one for me growing up
That car made the show. The engine sounds like a monster loose out of a cage. the car looks fantastic. Thanks for the history on this car.
