Manual Swapping My Turbo Toyota Pickup To Make It Faster!

    In this weeks video I dive into the biggest transformation the turbo Toyota pickup has ever seen! when I swapped in this trucks drivetrain I used everything from the donor tacoma, including the stock automatic transmission. since the beginning I've had issues with the automatic transmission, between the first one dying on the Dyno, to this current one sucking all the power from the truck and being an absolute dog off the line. this week I FINALLY take on the massive task of manual transmission swapping it! The reason it was such a massive task is that I need to move the engine and transmission back in the engine bay to do the job correctly. Before I swap the transmission I first take the truck to the drag strip in order to have a great before and after comparison to see how much I actually improve the truck! After the swap I first take it to the Dyno to see how much power its new drivetrain can handle then take it back to the drag strip to feel the improvements first hand!

    "So much room for activities" 🤣😅 Great movie dude. That truck's a little beast. I just tore my 22RE down to the block because there was coolant missing and found in the oil. I thought it was the head gasket but when I tore it down, I realized the head gasket wasn't burnt through anywhere (although not in ideal condition at all) so now I'm kind of just in over my head. These videos are great and wish I would have found them sooner; I would have kept my intake manifold on the head when I took it off. Jesus!

      Check your timing chain and timing chain guides! The chain can eat through the guides and into the aluminum timing cover through to the coolant passage, causing coolant in the oil, I’d also recommend haveing the head checked and possibly decked at a machine shop for the best results of the head gasket repair!

      I actually don’t think I’ll need a manual ECU for run-ability, It seems to do pretty good, up until I cracked the exhaust manifold and stopped building boost

    My 1987 Toyota pickup had a 1uz/ w58 swap. 250 hp and tq at the crank. 373 ring and pinion open diff. It ran a consistent 14.1 @ 98-98 mph in the quarter while spinning all the way through 1st, 2nd and part of third.
    It now has the 300 hp/tq 1uz vvti /w58. I made some diy caltracs traction bars following a guy on RUclips. Now both wheels hook from a dig with the open diff. I wasn’t expecting much from the traction bars but they work 100%. I’d suggest trying it out. The parts were not very expensive. Just took sometime and planning.
    I haven’t returned to the track with the new setup yet.

    • @redlineranch.
      @redlineranch.  6 дней назад +1

      I definitely am going to need either trac bars or I was debating doing a true 4 link suspension with coilovers, but for now I want to get my diff welded, or a locker and good grippy wheels and tires, then I’ll do a trac bar and from there see what it needs, it’s also not really my “drag car” so we’ll see how I like it with a little more grip and decide what direction I’d like to go after some seat time!

    Dude I knw you want the sleeper look, but there are alloys out there that looks sleeper. Just remove those steel wheels, its heavier and it has less air flow for brakes than alloy wheels its a complete eyesore and its burning my eyes 🤮🔥

      @redlineranch.  6 дней назад

      That’s what I was thinking, but I’m also so new to drag racing that I’m sure more seat time will help everything a ton too. So more traction mods and more seat time is my next move on this thing!

    Love the content, on one of my turbo cars as soon as I put sticky tires on it and got traction it performed a rod delete. I will be looking forward to further updates on your turbo projects, also are you running non-tuned ecm's? its very impressive to me if these were originally non turbo cars and you added 14+ psi without a tune on the ecm for it.
