California = the land of the (Islamic) Caliph. Most of Iberia was under Islamic rule for centuries hence the Islamic influence within the Spanish names.(Edit) Califia is the the feminization of Caliph so etymology is similar.
Both what you're saying and what Home Team has stated is true. The etymology is certainly of Arab-Iberian origin but the name ascribed to the Queen Califa is true as well. Language isn't stagnant. It moves with the migration of the people.

I remember a lot of people being shocked and confused as to why Disney had Whoopie Goldberg narrating, being the voice of California in the theater show. I remember Disney got some backlash because of it, too. People said that part of the show should be changed because Californian history had no ties to Black women. Then when more news came out that California was actually named after a Black woman and that's why Disney had Whoopie narrate their historical theater show, those racist folks looked stupid. Lol! Because of the boldness of California Adventureland, so many people, including Californians, learned about California being named after a Black woman, Khalifia.

I live in the Bay Area and I believe this story regarding the State of California. At some point, each and everyone of us must sit down in solitude and ask ourselves the following questions: Why is it that when it comes to so-called African Americans, our history is buried in myths, secrecy, half truths and legends?? There isn't another people on the planet as great as us. It is common knowledge that in order to destroy a people, you MUST destroy their history first. Also, think about all of the inventions that came about because of so-called African Americans. You don't hear about a plethora of inventions coming to fruition by way of the Russians or Germans or French or Swedes or the British. THINK ABOUT IT! After you've done this, you should come to the conclusion that the entire world moves and is ran on the energy of the mind of the fluidity of the so-called African Americans. All of our history is already WRITTEN in the BIBLE! Yes, we are so great, it's even WRITTEN in the greatest BOOK of all time! Quam YASHARAHLA! 😎😎✌✌
@@Rell510 You are correct Sir! Right now, I'm representing myself in a federal lawsuit. I put down on the paperwork that I'm Indigenous to America, ... NOT AFRICA! 👌✌

There is no story to believe in though 😂😂 it was a character in a book written by a Spanish man who another Spanish man possibly named this land after. That’s like saying you believe in the myth of Wakanda 🤭
@Deshone Robinson Pictures? When was the photography invented cursed one? Listen I have the power to see this stuff, you don't. Years ago I warned black Americans about having all these out of wedlock births and men abandoning their children. It was a curse that would bring forth psychopaths, violence, murder, disease, mental illness etc. But black folks don't like to listen. The reaction back then is the same that you and all the others have. Now look at where we are. This new curse brought on by people like you will be even more fatal and more personal. There were no Indigenous Sub Saharan Africans in the Americas. Our ancestors were brought here from Africa by force. You can study science to confirm this. But you and all the others are cursed. Your spirit is corrupted.
I really appreciate this video, brother. I like your work on African cultures. But how can she be an African Queen if she’s from America and never been to Africa? She was indigenous Aboriginal American. So-called black people are indigenous to America and everywhere else. The name is Arabic from the masculine title ‘Caliph’. The story is mythos in a novel but she was real. We had many “black female” leaders in America and most tribes were matrilineal. My ancestor Chief Cockacoeske aka the Queen of Pamunkey, was one of the last powerful “black” female chiefs in America and created the treaty that made the current reservation system-though she didn’t think it would turn out like this. She ran the Powhatan confederacy/empire, which included hundreds of tribes. These people traded with Africans and South Pacific people for hundreds of years. Califa was just one of the many melanated female chiefs or empresses.
In the book, the mythical California is ruled by Queen Califa and populated only with female warriors who brandish gold weapons. They even harness their animals in gold because it is the only mineral on the island. The legend of Califa and her island was well known among New World explorers. In 1536 when Hernán Cortés arrived in Baja California, he believed he had landed on the legendary island.
Finally you did a vid on this. Thanks. Also America comes from the name blacks called the land. The whole earth was black before whites came from the mountains.
I dont think it’s actually named after the queen though. I think it’s named after the island in the book which is called California island, or land of the caliph, as in a male Muslim ruler “caliph” and the Spanish suffix “-ornia” meaning land of. That this particular island was ruled by a female caliph is not really important. If the name of the state had been Calafiafornia or Calafiornia it would make sense that it was named after the queen herself, since calafia means female ruler. But California alone is land of the caliph. Although I think there’s little doubt that the name was inspired by the island in the novel of which of course she was the ruler.
This isn’t the story I heard of Queen Kalifia. I heard she was a Queen who was a warrior who ruled over both men and women but her strongest warriors were called the Kalifas. They conquered all of California and parts of Mexico. I know this is why California is named after her. I have never heard or read of hometeams version.

The Spanish may have named California (literal definition: "hot" ) as a protective measure - to tell the people of the many hot spots and earthquakes including the Cierro Prieto, Coronado volcano and El Aguajito (also known as the Cal dera Santa Ana and the Long Valley, CA Cal-dera, said to be the world's largest Supervolcano- more than romantic mythical tales to pass a siesta or time with, the Spaniards more than likely named the area as a placemark, as a message to prepare..(Spanish ancestors

Yes California was name after Queen Kaliafia I haven’t watched the video yet. In the Capital of California the city Sacramento in the state government building had the mural of the queen for over a 100 years prior to DisneyLand being built etc. Not sure if it’s still there after renovations two decades ago.
Plus, there are other studies about the indigenous people of Altan who look like Black Americans. There is a lot more to her and the history of Blacks in America. Let me watch the video now.
Update missing a lot but it’s a good beginning of the history.

I'm from California. I remember when California Adventureland first opened. It's right next door to Disneyland, so most people visit both.
Lol!
But I was surprised that California Adventureland kept the theater open and Whoopie's narration. Because of the boldness of California Adventureland, so many people, including Californians, learned about California being named after a Black woman, Khalifia.

I live in the Bay Area and I believe this story regarding the State of California. At some point, each and everyone of us must sit down in solitude and ask ourselves the following questions:
Why is it that when it comes to so-called African Americans, our history is buried in myths, secrecy, half truths and legends??

Wow 🙌🏽🙌🏽Txu for sharing great info❤❤
Hi thank you very much for your information.
We should Talk would like to see what you think of the President Family.
This story sounds like Wonder Woman. I wish I was on an island of just beautiful females for obvious reasons 😆
If my memory serves me correctly I believe that the story of Wonder Woman was after Khalifa

2 Esdras 13:40-46
2000 years before Europeans
I read a original diary of Herman Cortez when he conquered Mexico ,he wrote that he know he saw African people in Mexico among the natives of mexico
Finally you did a vid on this. Thanks.
Also America comes from the name blacks called the land.
The whole earth was black before whites came from the mountains.
Please stfu you have no PhD or education to back up this stupid claim.
Spanish explorer was captured by an African Queen named Califia to explore her land rich in gold Queen Mother of California.
This isn’t the story I heard of Queen Kalifia. I heard she was a Queen who was a warrior who ruled over both men and women but her strongest warriors were called the Kalifas. They conquered all of California and parts of Mexico. I know this is why California is named after her. I have never heard or read of hometeams version.
someone lied to you, glad he could guide to the truth
I heard of the the same version you have not this one. I have a book on early america and it says she ruled in present day california

No proof of Africans in California that long ago, but their is evidence of Polynesians. According to archeological evidence Polynesian chicken bones were abundant in California dating from 1500 years ago. The appearance of sweet potato in all Polynesian society from the same time leads to either trade or settlement. Even the name California seems very close to Polynesian linguistics.
