For me art is everywhere, anything we can see in this world is an art, the tress, animals, rivers, Earth's surface, atmosphere and specially human being is what we called art. For the scriptures says in Genesis 1:1, in the beginning God created the heaven and Earth, and if you read the whole of this verse, you can see that mankind are created in the sixth day, therefore everything we can see in this world is Gods masterpiece, so art everywhere.
Thank you SO much! This is a perfect video to share with my intermediate elementary students. I have been trying to design "What is Art?" lesson and this is a perfect addition. The only suggestion I have is perhaps adding a segment about sometimes knowing /learning about the artist's intent can change the way one feels about the art.
This is probably the most frustrating explainer I’ve ever seen. You say that “The term arts is really just a label” this is true for all words. Then you say that “what it is or what it isn’t” is not “what art is about”. So your implied definition is a negative one. Art is defined as not being about what it is or isn’t… This leads you to say that what matters is your “personal experience with it”. But that’s why I came to this video, to learn what “it” is. How can I understand my personal experience with “it” when “it” isn’t defined, because its definition is “not what it’s really about”. Perhaps this contradictory nightmare of an “explanation” is your art. If so, it still sucks.
@Nired Kik true however its not always that, art isnt always about who we are, sometimes its about what we think, what we dream, and those things arent really related to who we are, depending on what type of thought it is
...If art is defined as "anything that stirs emotions", that would mean that stuff like, say, a traffic jam or my cat or a suspicious sound late at night when you're alone can all be classified as art. Methinks that perhaps we need to narrow it down a _little_ bit more than that.
Anything and everything is art if it makes you feel in a certain way the only thing that is not art, is if you don't feel anything towards something, to feel emotionless toward something.
a traffic jam, your cat, and a suspicious sound late at night could be inspiration. Perhaps the emotions inspired by these things could be embodied in an artwork. There are artists who create performances or experiences, perhaps the traffic jam could be art if done on purpose or filmed and edited in a way that conveys a message or evokes an emotion. I do agree with your previous replies that mention an artist developing skill and technique. I think this is an important part of the puzzle as well.

Art is a synonym for technique. An artist is someone who has the technique, qualifications or practical knowledge to make things. They can be creative artists. It is divided into cooperative and productive art. Works of art can be used or enjoyed. Used: chair and shoes. Fruitful: sculptures, music. When they can be enjoyed, it must be beautiful, that is, well constructed. Taste and pleasure have nothing to do with the objective beauty of something.
I would say yes, but important is what feeling, thought, state of mind or so on, made you do this... what was happening inside you that made u done this. And it doesnt have to be art, but can.
As an art educator I would only bring this video to the table in order to critique the mainstream perceptions of what art is as portrayed in this video. It's a reductionist idea to think that all people can come to position on art as valuable and relevant if the reading is uniformed, and it often is.
Art is the highest of that what you decided to do. Its when you master some technique nearly to perfection. You made your own style, your principle of working ... @@alekjovanovski3087 My definition - and this is just my personal philosophy that I developed on my own with no formal education on the matter, so I don't pretend to be an authority here - is that artistry is "the process of refining a certain set of values particular to the artist", and art is the practical expression of that process. This is not exactly the same thing as simply mastering a given creative discipline. It's more about pursuing a personal ideal via that discipline. (The two do, however, tend to develop together in a sort of symbiotic relationship.) As an example, say a carpenter learns how to make a chair. Once he has perfected the skills to make a certain model of chair, he may apply this to other chair designs, and so on, until he can expertly craft a large number of different chairs. At this point he is extremely skilled at chair making, but that's still just craftsmanship; something you could learn just by following instructions or program a robot to do for you. It becomes art once our carpenter starts to consider how he thinks and feels about chairs - what chairs mean to him and what aspects of them he finds particularly important, pleasing or stimulating - and then tries to make chairs that embody those values as closely as possible. Now just replace chairs with music or paintings or narratives. That's my take on it, anyway. I hope it makes at least a bit of sense.

Art in any state or form is "ANYTHING YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH". As an art collector critic and researcher for many years, this phrase has reinforced itself in the world of Art more so than in any other era.
Art according to me is when you are in a creative state of mind, every artist will go through a creative slump during their lifetime and that moment should teach us all that in order to make art you have to be in that state of mind. When i go to art exhibitions and see for example a shoe laying on white table, i get furious! The reason i get furious is that the artist has put no effort in doing it, he/she found a shoe and just put it there. However, i would class this as "social art" because it awakens something in me and others. i think the main point about this type of art, it's all about the eye of the beholder. We who watched this "Shoe" lay on the table is the main focus, we are the art. So i think we need to divide art made from for example Van Gogh and "Social art" because people like Van Gogh, he sacrificed years of his life to paint. Everyone can put a shoe on a table, but nobody will be Van Gogh. There is talent and then there's a shoe on a table. But of course we all think different.
If a word has no exact definition it is pointless to argue about what is art. At this point in history art can be 10 000 different thing. In practice there is no consistency. Whatever most people consider as art is art. But it based on feelings, no logic involved.
It is not just about stirring emotions it is about moving the person's eyes their ears their nose even their senses together and stimulating their brain all of these things together are what Art is!
