The tracks in the game are one of the most beautiful looking in any racing games. Seeing this in the arcades for the first time back in the 90's made my jaws drop.
Wow the graphics are so damn clear. And WOW FIRST PLACE! NICE! I love the music on the MEDIUM course. So much. My favorite course in the game, by far….It hs the most creative music and design.
All of the tracks of Scud Race (Sega Super GT) were lossely based on real-life locations: Dolphin Tunnel (Beginner Day) - Melbourne, Victoria Australia due to its seaside environment. Twilight Airport (Beginner Night) - Narita International Airport, Tokyo, Japan due to JAL (Japan Airlines) product placement on airplanes. Mystery Ruins (Medium) - presumably Mexico or Central America due to its ancient Mayan ruins. Classic Castle (Expert) - Europe, possibly Italy, due to the Roman Colosseum.
Damn, you must've learned this game quite a bit. I just found an actual Scud Race machine while I was out of town yesterday and despite the music not working, it still controlled 100%. I played this course a few times, but while I didn't finish it I still had a goodass time. For a game made in the year I was actually born, the graphics still hold up. The first person view is incredible! I do think Daytona USA 1 and 2 are easier to drift in though.
This is the game that got me into the Viper and cars (alongside Cruisn usa and an unknown arcade racer with a CIVIC in it)...well actually it was something else for the Viper, but you get the point lol XD. This game was so ahead of it time
I feel like the drifting aspect of the game is a secret...most players didn't know about it and would crash on the walls or just break really hard. Maybe that's why they congratulate you everytime you do it. Or warn you NOT to crash because it's so dangerous.
Nice racing mate. Would love to see a series of you playing through all the Sega classics at some point, or maybe a top ten of your choice of games/courses maybe.
I wish they made a full game of this and a part pf the game where you can explore the tracks and areas with no time limit. That way you can explore the track a bit more. There's just so much to see on the track that it's a blink and you'll miss it moment most of the time!

No, this was my first attempt at trying to get 1st on this stage in about 2 years. If you think it seems easy then by all means feel free to post a video of yourself getting 1st on this stage with a better time...
Thanks dude. Yeah, it's extremely hard, especially for a 'medium' course. I think this might be the hardest level in any Sega Arcade racer (even Scud's Expert level).
MrThunderwing Where did you get version 0.3 from? On the Supermodel website, the latest version available for download is 0.2a. Am I missing something?
Jason Feil The most recent *official* release is the 0.2a version. The 0.3 versions are work-in-progress builds that have been compiled using the code from the SVN repository that incorporate the newest changes to Supermodel, but have not yet been officially released. You can normally download them from places like EmuCR. It just so happens that a new build just came out quite recently for the first time in ages, you can find out more at the following link: www.supermodel3.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1116 There have been massive improvements in Supermodel between the 0.2a build and the most recent 0.3 one, so it's well worth tracking one down.
Heh, I remember playing California Speed the arcade version and it was impossible to get first place until the last second. and if I manage to get lets say 6th place prematurely, that cars would "rubber band" past me then slow down enough that I could pass them. That's what I hated about those AI Racers.
I have had a G25 steering wheel for a week now. I'm slower than with my X360 pad. What are the force feedback settings to get the sensations as close as possible to the arcade machine? The degree of rotation of the steering wheel is indeed 270° Thank you
I just use my DFGT on all its default settings. I've never messed with the degree of rotation. Likewise, I just use the inbuilt option to turn force feedback on in Supermodel when I launch it via the command line, there's no individual setting to tweak - it's either on or off.

The graphics totally fits for the PS2 but we didn't get a console release outside of Dreamcast.
I use to work for sega in 96 making the arcades of this and house of the dead. I couldn't wait for my breaks to play on them. Needed a home port.

During the starting stage, the camera angle for the car is also the same as Daytona USA 2.

I don't know why almost every time you drift, it has to make it like you're in the wrong and speaks to you. I find that annoying.
