It doesn't matter, you couldn't tell the difference on the large low resolution 40" CRT Arcade displays. It looked just as good as seen here on youtoube. Truly ahead of it's time that even puts many modern racers to shame!
I love the Saturn but is impossible to run this kind of polygons on this console even in a dream. Maybe the Dreamcast could get this job done... Or the Mega Drive.😋
I suspect that Daytona USA 2 is based on the Scud Race engine. Of course I have no proof but they share the same mirror mode trick, both used palletized textures in a similar manner (e.g., blinking traffic lights), both use micro-texturing to give the road surface additional texture detail (in Scud Race, this generates the sharp, clean streaks on the road surface) and given that they were two flagship titles developed within just two years of each other on the same hardware, why wouldn't they? If I had unlimited time, I would love to try de-compiling these games (as was done with Super Mario 64) to reconstruct C++ source code so that latency-tolerant net play and maybe even track and car customization could be added to both games. Or maybe someone else can take up this project :) Both games were definitely written in C and/or C++ and the machine code retains a lot of that structure. Should be very doable! One could even simply translate the CPU code and leave the audio and video boards emulated.
Ah, I remember playing the vanilla Super GT at my mall's Tilt arcade, and emulating the Plus version on Supermodel back in 2012 when I had my cheap ASUS family PC. Definitely a good 3 to 4 years ahead of its time in terms of graphics. Most mass released console and PC racing games didn't start to get comparably good looking until 2000 or so I'd say. The car model polygon count and exterior details look similar to what was in Test Drive Le Mans from years later. Wish this had come to Dreamcast, the only reason I can think it didn't was because they decided it was too similar to Daytona and Daytona would have better brand recognition amongst buyers so they just focused on the remastered release of that but still, they should have put it out there.
The year this came out I was still sitting at home playing stunt race Fx on my super nes. Let's just say it was quite a Shock when I went to the arcade and saw this game and Daytona USA. I remember having an uneasy queasy feeling like sea sickness, But I just chalked it up to being excited playing a new game that looked so good, but looking back now I know it was from the high frame rate compared to the choppy super FX games I played at home.
I would be happy if this is Daytona USA at home. I personally love this game 1st, Daytona 2 2nd, and Daytona 1 3rd. Still play all of them from time to time in emulators.
For mirror, hold the start button as you select a track. For the special vehicles, hold the start button as you select a vehicle, and this is different depending on what vehicle you select. Keep in mind this only works on the super beginner track. If you want to use the special vehicles on other tracks like I did, it gets a little more complicated and involves using a program such as Cheat Engine.
The camera is very jerky or "snappy" which is quite off-putting. What causes this? Is it the emulation? Or the controller being used? Does the real arcade also do this?
I never had the opportunity to try the real arcade cabinet myself, but it seems to me that it's mainly just from using a joystick on a regular Xbox One controller. It's just not really possible to get the same smooth movement as using a steering wheel. This is a fairly good quality video on real hardware for comparison. ruclips.net/video/EGUdZB1PoLE/видео.html

On default settings, the steering is way too sensitive, but if I crank up the saturation, then I lose the ability to turn to either the full left or right.
