      @stealthcat100 4 года назад +66

      The more realism the less charm and imagination . The wonderful thing about games is that you can escape from reality and enter another reality that is different . This was always the case with the older games .
      With today’s soulless super realistic games all your doing is escaping one reality to enter pretty much the same reality that you already live so all the imagination, all the fantasy , all the charm and all the magic that makes you feel good in your heart vanishes. It’s just a simulation . Numb

    I spent all of my highschool years playing Sega Rally 2 with friends on Saturday nights, after a movie at the local theater. Trying to beat our records, having fun mocking our driving and the quirks of the dead old cabinet which was slowly falling to pieces, suddenly pulling the handbrake to ruin each other's attempts or exploiting the secret cheat code that gave you the Delta and the Celica. Sadly, the arcade side of the place shut down two years ago due to a fire. I'll always have fond memories of this game, a true gem

    There was a mall with a small amusement "park" section which had this game on a machine. It was dope.
    And also this mall was near our homes too so it was like our thing.
    We must have spent a lot of money on these machines 😂...
    But in 2020 when everything shot down because of the pandemic, the amusement park section closed.
    And recently they reopen it but as a new play section... sadly the Sega Rally 2 wasn't there anymore :(
    But i wil always cherish the memories of us playing this!

I remember being blown away by this game in the arcade when it came out; especially with the graphics and the handbrake - my teenage self was wondering "how do you even use this?!". Looking at it with older eyes, wow - how far games have come. It's a shame every arcade these days is just filled with essentially gambling games for tokens rather than what I remember - but it's not like I'm the target demographic any more. Still, good times and great memories from back in the day. Cheers for uploading footage of skills I never was able to master back in the day - that Snowy stage is always where I crapped out 👍🏼

    By comparison, an ultra high-end PC at the time would have had a P2-300 with a Voodoo 1 GPU. That combo was roughly capable of running N64 like graphics at 30 to 60 FPS at 640x480. In other words, the Model 3 was much, much more powerful.

    There is one thing in this game that I would like to point out: Pacenotes.
    If I was rallying with these notes, I would deal with it fairly well. Okay, okay, they are rather simple, but for a late 90s game they are pretty detailed. Calls like "narrows", "opens" and "caution" come up surprisingly often, and they even tell you the distance to the next corner. The first Colin Mcrae Rally did not have that integrated, and that is two years newer if I recall correctly. V-rally series at the time did not implement it at all.

    You using the Supermodel emulator? If so, how'd you fix the music? For me the attract mode plays MNF instead and other music is screwed up as well

    • @arronmunroe

      That likely is a fairly old one. I used Supermodel svn r775. You should be able to find either that one, or the slightly newer svn r777 with google.

    I am quite impressed with how SEGA RALLY 2 improved a little bit with how the graphics work! I mean, take one good look at how the cars look in the game, unlike the original SEGA RALLY game! It has the reflections on the windows of the cars. Even the textures in the game look a whole lot photo-realistic. I like that game! And it is a shame that SEGA had to take out the car battery and close the garage for good, and thus, cancelling the series altogether in 2011!

    • @arronmunroe
      @arronmunroe  2 года назад +1

      Are you sure it is the latest version of Supermodel? Previously, only older versions were available on the download section on the website, although that has been fixed for a little while. Currently, the latest version is 0.3a SVN r865. I probably used something around SVN r775 for this video. Also, I would suggest using the option -ppc-frequency=100, because the cpu is underclocked in the emulator by default. I'm using an NVIDIA graphics card, but I'm not sure if that matters.

    • @jakescartoons6045
      @jakescartoons6045 2 года назад +1

      @@arronmunroe I just did what you suggested, and you were right. Apparently all I had to do was change the frequency. That solved all the problems I was having. Thanks a lot, man!
