Lots of people have commented that the medical waste comment was referencing abortion! Yes I think you are right! I was confused because of the way the comment was phrased. However, I still find it hilarious!

Honest confusion because it’s the same group of people. In fact, back in the late 60’s and early 70’s when we were working so hard for reproductive rights, a LOT of us snarkier women didn’t call them “Right to Lifer’s”… we called them “The Every Sperm is Sacred clan”

I strive hard to find out I am wrong. I always try to understand others and figure out my flaws. Nothing makes me happier when I either learn something or am proven wrong. We all get wrong information from many sources. Shouldn't you be happy if someone disagrees with you and took the time to hear your views and share their own? How can someone make you feel bad? If what they say is false it shouldn't concern you and if what they say is true then you shouldn't be bothered. If someone says "it's a million degrees out", we know they are hyperbolic for effect. IF they say its 80 degrees out yet your source says its 90, why are you upset? if you think it's 80 but find out they are right aren't you grateful? I had a boss once that asked about sales, I had checked an hour ago and I gave an estimate that turned out to be higher than the actual numbers. I said "about 13k" and it was less then 12k. He was so angry. It was still twice our average day, but he was mad I was off by 10%. He made a big deal out of it and I just looked at him in amazement. I explained I checked an hour ago and did an estimation in my head. Anyways please stop being so upset with people who think different and are concerned about you. Just thank people for any and all comments and move on. BTW you are welcome in advance and ty for sharing your opinions. you seem very upset talking about the flaws in the church. I hope talking about it brings you joy and if it just makes you more upset maybe talk about other things. or things you like about the church.

They see it as proving oneself 'right' and 'pure', the lesser would only be seen as with doubt, weakness, and a prideful person (even when no pride is present/shown) to be humbled. One can not be right to just be right, one must be right by proving themselves in punishing or admonishing the wicked or the doubter. One must be testified to until they regain their testimony (whether they are coerced to give back in or drowned in it to become compliant then see oneself with sin to hate oneself)

I just couldn't take any of the things I was learning at church seriously looking at it all from the outside compared to the Mennonites who had been born and raised in a radical protestant culture.
You also realize the insane influence that the religion has on the Mennonite variant of Low German. Like the word for happy (schafich) is cognate to the word for industrious, hard-working, productive in other German dialects, because to work yourself to death for God is to be happy in their culture and it keeps you away from impure thoughts and behavior.

My family drives me nuts with portraying the fake "perfect" mormon life. I can't stand it, I unfollowed all my TBM family on socials. Also, a wild story, when my daughter was born, my grandmother asked me who would be blessing her and where she will go to church. I replied that we aren't going to have her blessed, and she can attend church whenever and wherever she (my daughter) chooses to. Then, shocked, my grandma asked "How will she learn good morals and how to be a good person?" I patiently and simply asked in reply, "Am I incapable of teaching my daughter these things?" she felt bad and we haven't spoken of it again but that moment will always sit forefront in my mind as I am teaching and playing with my kids. That bothered me on a deep level that I don't think I will ever shake.

After leaving the church and having my name removed from temple records , I was still being politely harassed by members .
I was always polite and set my boundaries with them .
Years later after talking to a crisis worker and councillors was the first time I heard the word transgender. I came out before it was recognized nor accepted. About 3 years later a specialist confirmed I am intersexed. My parents knew because I most likely had corrective surgery as an infant.
I chose to live and be my authentic self instead of obeying what religion and society wanted to dictate.
I have been called just about anything you can imagine and then some.
I find it odd to think that their concepts of a god being so powerful will need them to “ save my soul “ .
In many instances all I hear is them self projecting their own depravity . And by goodness we scare the crap out of them being defiant and making healthy boundaries for ourselves.
I just don’t see any christ in their christianity.

This is so true. All “high demand faiths” walk a very fragile culty line with their membership / believers. Roman Catholics are not Mormons either. But it’s the same “Pay, Pray and Obey” doctrine, also includes a purity culture which scarred millennia of Catholic girls and boys. It also created the perfect power structure and breeding ground for the clergy, bound by vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience to be able to groom “good Catholic kids” there to study CCD to believe a priest who tells them “this is the only “God” approved sexual activity. Anything else must be offered up in confession or risk your mortal soul. I watched a limited series during lockdown which was so relatable for anyone who grew up in a high demand faith.
Unorthodox is a German-American drama television miniseries that debuted on Netflix on March 26, 2020. The first Netflix series to be primarily in Yiddish, it is inspired by Deborah Feldman's 2012 autobiography, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots.

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ I don’t know about still believing / attending Catholics “not attacking” those who’ve strayed, personally I’d have found that less onerous than practically my entire Catholic family lighting candles for me and openly praying for my return. After 30 years, you’d think they’d accept I was permanently part of The Separated Brethren (for non Catholics this is “Catholic speak for any Protestant faith or clutch your pearls Bridget, atheists”) but still now nearly 40 years later at least one of my well intended Aunts or Uncles make a point to say every year it’s never too late to return. I love them because they are my kin and the closest link I have to my now dead parents. So I say don’t hold this against me and I promise not to hold your belief in transubstantiation against you. In the LDS, the more rural areas are where the true zealots reside, at least that's been my experience when visiting Utah, Idaho, and western WY. Lapsed Catholics don't generally post volumes of anti-Catholic messaging once they leave, they just leave. 20 years ago, pre-RUclips, I could find volumes and volumes of info on Joseph Smith, polygamy, and everything else about the LDS online. Not videos, but copious volumes of documents carefully uploaded. It was impressive. The amount of effort that took. And the research behind it. You could tell that the people behind the postings were p-o'd. Majorly. It was their catharsis. These people spent weeks/months of their lives solely to be informative. Regarding the person who criticized you re: LDS isn't as big a cult as others, I think it's very important to highlight the cultiness of the LDS church because, due to it's wealth and the outward "safe" (read predominantly White, middle-class) appearance of most Mormons, it is easy for Mormons to pass themselves off as mainline Christians to the general public, which makes it far more insidious. The only difference between Warren Jeffs (or David Koresh, for that matter) and Joseph Smith is a couple hundred years.

This is a part of history and not particularly unique to the LDS church. If the LDS church is predominantly white and middle class (similar to several other religious denominations within the US) then perhaps you have not traveled overseas to meet their Japanese or Brazilian counterparts. I experienced lots of bullying from supposed Evangelical "Christain" when I was in my twenty's. It was from my land lady, it was constant and really impacted on my mental health and made me really unwell. I was getting so much better then this happened. No one ever has the right to force their beliefs unto others and especially already vulnerable people. It does not matter what creed or belief system and I thank you Lexie for your videos, really has helped me xx

That spiritual awareness video is a trip. It really drives home that all religion is just a grift that plays on people’s emotions.
When I was trying to come to terms with my atheism, I decided that if there is an all powerful being, that being would know what it would take to make me believe. Also, if that being made me and knew me, he would know that I require evidence and I wouldn’t be tortured forever for being the way he made me. If it was a benevolent being at least. And if the being wasn’t benevolent, I wouldn’t want to worship him anyway.
