Perfect! In one sentence. The loudest voices that proclaim “Christian beliefs” for laws against women, LGBTQ+ community, Jewish persons, etc etc etc…are shouting with hatred, judgment and condemnation. I’ve read the Bible, I’ve read what Jesus says…hate is not what Jesus promotes…and if he did, I wouldn’t want anything to do with his religion! (I’m not and never have been in a religion anyway.) The loudest representatives of “Christianity” in US culture today are so off-putting, hateful, mean and judgmental…why would anyone want to be a part of that?
This is so true. All “high demand faiths” walk a very fragile culty line with their membership / believers. Roman Catholics are not Mormons either. But it’s the same “Pay, Pray and Obey” doctrine, also includes a purity culture which scarred millennia of Catholic girls and boys. It also created the perfect power structure and breeding ground for the clergy, bound by vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience to be able to groom “good Catholic kids” there to study CCD to believe a priest who tells them “this is the only “God” approved sexual activity. Anything else must be offered up in confession or risk your mortal soul. I watched a limited series during lockdown which was so relatable for anyone who grew up in a high demand faith. Unorthodox is a German-American drama television miniseries that debuted on Netflix on March 26, 2020. The first Netflix series to be primarily in Yiddish, it is inspired by Deborah Feldman's 2012 autobiography, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots.
@@playnicechannel I watched the series as well. it got all the religious factors correct with the wedding, and pesach/ Passover covering your countertops in silver foil, and do many small details perfectly. It definitely is a cult. It was a great show. For most people who leave it’s not the extreme. People might unwelcome you to places. Say they might not want you to talk to their kids about your experience ( my best friends mother said she didn’t want me talking about it to her 19 year old son who’s a closeted atheist) and try to push you back it the religion again, etc… but a lot of it was accurate
Unfortunately there is no shortage of cults seeking to profit from misery. I find it interesting how many of us come from different religions but have so much in common due to the common tactics these cults use, even when the dogma differs so much.
Glad to see you're mostly chill. Keep it up😎. There are innumerable lapsed Catholics. The Catholics that still attend Mass rarely attack their lapsed friends and relatives. The people sending you nasty comments are the ones with the problem.
🤷♀️🤷♀️ I don’t know about still believing / attending Catholics “not attacking” those who’ve strayed, personally I’d have found that less onerous than practically my entire Catholic family lighting candles for me and openly praying for my return. After 30 years, you’d think they’d accept I was permanently part of The Separated Brethren (for non Catholics this is “Catholic speak for any Protestant faith or clutch your pearls Bridget, atheists”) but still now nearly 40 years later at least one of my well intended Aunts or Uncles make a point to say every year it’s never too late to return. I love them because they are my kin and the closest link I have to my now dead parents. So I say don’t hold this against me and I promise not to hold your belief in transubstantiation against you. Pass the corned beef and potatoes!! 👍👍👍🔥
@@playnicechannel I'm sorry that's been your experience. I have known dozens of former Catholics, and I can only think of one where her mother is a "pain". But then, I've mostly lived in the rural Upper Midwest and the Front Range. Zealousness about religion is uncommon except among the elderly. In the LDS, the more rural areas are where the true zealots reside, at least that's been my experience when visiting Utah, Idaho, and western WY. Lapsed Catholics don't generally post volumes of anti-Catholic messaging once they leave, they just leave. 20 years ago, pre-RUclips, I could find volumes and volumes of info on Joseph Smith, polygamy, and everything else about the LDS online. Not videos, but copious volumes of documents carefully uploaded. It was impressive. The amount of effort that took. And the research behind it. You could tell that the people behind the postings were p-o'd. Majorly. It was their catharsis. These people spent weeks/months of their lives solely to be informative. I live in a town with two wards. I wanted to know what the LDS was all about. I'm in their debt.
@@asajayunknown6290 I think we “lapsed” Catholics left for our own personal reasons, but can’t simply forget the personal peace and joy our still believing family members get from the faith. So the “polite” and “kind” thing is to quietly back away as one might from a grizzly bear. You know who DOES leave on blast ? The thousands of victims of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy. To them I say good for you and heck yeah I’ll sign your petitions. I had ecclesiastical differences with my families faith not criminal, legal ones. I admit I found the candle lighting and prayers super annoying in my 20’s. In my 60’s I dunno, it’s almost charming in a way ?? 🤷♀️☘️🙄
Regarding the person who criticized you re: LDS isn't as big a cult as others, I think it's very important to highlight the cultiness of the LDS church because, due to it's wealth and the outward "safe" (read predominantly White, middle-class) appearance of most Mormons, it is easy for Mormons to pass themselves off as mainline Christians to the general public, which makes it far more insidious. The only difference between Warren Jeffs (or David Koresh, for that matter) and Joseph Smith is a couple hundred years.
If you look into the history of most religions, institutions, or political movements, you can extract any number of unsavory facts. This is a part of history and not particularly unique to the LDS church. If the LDS church is predominantly white and middle class (similar to several other religious denominations within the US) then perhaps you have not traveled overseas to meet their Japanese or Brazilian counterparts. The average LDS member attends church two hours on Sunday and one or two hours during the week. Their lives and the way they live is hardly the stuff of cults.
Exactly. People who are apart of a cult don’t know they are apart of a cult. They try so hard to convince themselves and everyone else it’s not a cult by saying illogical and stupid things that make no sense.
My grandma was in an end of the world doomsday cult and my Mormon friend freaked out when I showed her the similarities between them and the Mormon church. She agreed with my points, but said she'd never leave the Mormon church because it meant so much to her.
The things we do every day, the things we say believe, and the friends/associates we hang with, become our identities. It's the story of who we tell ourselves we are. It is hard for most people to totally change it over night, since that would feel like suicide. One question at a time, one belief changed at a time is all most people can handle.
That video of testimonies is fantastic. If all these other religions are just as convinced that they are the one and only - how do you know who is and who isn't. It's a killer logic loop.
I hate the concept of not being able to discuss your trauma or your health issues because someone has it worse than you. Everyone’s trauma and health problems are valid to talk about or complain about. Just because someone else’s experience is worse than yours doesn’t mean that your experiences don’t effect you or are suddenly invalid.
I am Muslim and was just looking at the church's website just out curiosity and then by chance I stumbled on your video man my mind is blown 🤯 keep up your work and always try to find the Truth goodluck may you find peace and happiness ❤️
I experienced lots of bullying from supposed Evangelical "Christain" when I was in my twenty's. It was from my land lady, it was constant and really impacted on my mental health and made me really unwell. I was getting so much better then this happened. No one ever has the right to force their beliefs unto others and especially already vulnerable people. It does not matter what creed or belief system and I thank you Lexie for your videos, really has helped me xx
After leaving mormon I went to evangelical. Once they saved my soul they told me to go to hell They became very critical and decited to be unkind. Yes they are are all programed. They want conformity at all cost.y
Wow, so Satan gifted us the CES letter? Guess I owe him my thanks! I mean he's also an LGBTQIA+ ally, despite being a mere spirit facing off against an extremely homophobic god. So I'm doubly in his debt by now! haha ;P
Satan? How many people have seen this supposed entity? It’s just an ancient human construct, yin/yang, light/dark, etc zero evidence of satan. dark entities? yes but no satan.
Actually the lds admitted the CES letter was absolutely correct but the Mormon apologist that gaslight the truth is our biggest problem and the Mormon church should shut them down and at least be honest about the history and what the truth is. But you're absolutely correct.
My parents and extended fam have had me on roll for 20+ years, like, they STILL haven't prayed hard enough? Also the medical waste shirt would be hilarious.
i felt the same way about the heavens gate testimonies, i wanted to share it with my tbm friends and family to see if they would pick up on the similarities, but they get mad when “I” “can’t leave it alone”
Oh yeah, every time a dude whacks it, just think about all of those millions of sperm that get aborted. Those poor little buggers never even had a chance!
Good grief. I count this down there with lying about your religion to scare people into " loving Jesus". It the truth isn't enough, somehow BS will do? Hang in there. You are a strong, amazing woman. You are a special person, and a wonderful mom. Rock on, Coffee Sister!!
I'm so inspired by you. Your voice is clear and strong where it was once demure; where there was one uncertainty now is strength. I wish for every woman a journey like yours to a brave and kind self-knowledge that drives unflinchingly toward truth. Thank you.
I love how kind and compassionate you are. I genuinely believe that this is the truth and the best possible way to live our best lives. Be kind, honest, but also hold people accountable with compassion while being firm in your disagreements. Keep being amazing and inspiring. I'm a raised atheist, but I've tried to use my gift of extreme empathy to befriend people who often have totally polar beliefs to me, because I believe that kindness is the only way to save the world. You remind me that I'm not alone and your videos really encourage me in the face of so much scariness in the world. Thank you
I'll be honest and say that I love the drama of hate comments. As soon as I see a hate comment episode, I am compelled to watch it! Great video, as always, keep up the good work!
I was born in JW for 36 years, active and a true believer. I am now an atheist, and happier than ever. And I approve and relate and agree with this video!
Thank you for all the content you have produced. It has helped me so much in my journey leaving the church. It’ll be three years next February ❤ Keep doing what you are doing
I guess they still haven’t figured out that “hate” watching & commenting still helps the algorithm… I’ve never had a problem with notifications. Not once. Even for channels I’ve not had time to watch or comment on for months at a time-their notifications still come up, just like every other channel. I’ve often wondered why some people have these issues because my RUclips settings have never changed unless I’ve changed them.
The part about emotional experiences at concerts just reminded me that my most profound musical experience was when the rock band I was seeing unexpectedly began playing Let It Go. It had me straight-up weeping.
Thanks for this! You said many of the things we also said during our journey out of the church. And the video in your link is a perfect illustration of why feelings are not a reliable determination of truth.
A wonderful meme I came across that I absolutely enjoy sharing, and relates to this podcast Lex 😇, it read “Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one 😳!” Lol 😂 Aloha 🌺
I think the “turning your posterity into medical waste is healthcare” phrase is referencing abortion, not masturbation? That’s how I understood it, anyway
Lexi, all of your episodes and vulnerability has been incredibly helpful for me in my journey to a healthier life. You deserve to feel happy and rewarded for your hard work. THANK YOU!
That spiritual awareness video is a trip. It really drives home that all religion is just a grift that plays on people’s emotions. When I was trying to come to terms with my atheism, I decided that if there is an all powerful being, that being would know what it would take to make me believe. Also, if that being made me and knew me, he would know that I require evidence and I wouldn’t be tortured forever for being the way he made me. If it was a benevolent being at least. And if the being wasn’t benevolent, I wouldn’t want to worship him anyway.
Does evidence just fall into our laps, or do we have to make an effort to learn and grow in our spirituality just as we must learn or grow in any other subject or vocation?
@@kristinab1078 If there really was a loving, caring god, he or she wouldn’t make it THIS hard. It’s THIS hard because it’s all pretend and people are shamed for not doing or being “enough” until they just lie to themselves and everyone that god finally revealed himself so people will stop bugging them.
You’re very brave, and I know a lot of your followers relate to you. I write a blog. It doesn’t get a lot of attention, but I write about controversial topics and sometimes get those kinds of comments. And I keep writing for the same reason you keep making videos. You are beautiful and awesome.. it's far harder to leave and speak up than to stick around and never question anything. You are a voice that is reaching far more people and resonating with far more meaning than rusty retcon can dream of.
I was very active in the Mormon church for 50 years. Then God took me out! I would get so sick every meeting I could not stay. This was very puzzling to me. But since I have found that Jesus wants me to worship Him and Him Alone! I tried other churches too..they did not feel right either. The Holy Spirit is within You..He is really All you Need! Job was taught this too.
Lexi, you must be an awesome person if the LDS want you back. My Bishop expedited my request to resign :D Come to think of it, most church folk don't want me after I attend a few times. Maybe I shouldn't ask so many questions. Lord knows I practice to be a good Christian, but I fail miserably. Sometimes, I pray for guidance, and often the Lord answers, " Hell if I know " :O
Brand new to your vids. Damn, that temple prayer roll diss is a real deep cut. I thought I heard it all, but that is a silent knife in the dark, slowly twisting.
Its astonishing the church of love and forgiveness foments so much hatred towards their wayward children, sisters, brothers etc. Speaking about the church openly unleashes Mormon version of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. aka, Mormon Hell.
I have always wondered why people badger, belittle, accuse, shame, manipulate, & hate and really just annoy the people they are trying to 'share' they're loving religion having the family feel and support. I recall hearing something about vinegar and honey and flies.Yeah, that will definitely get me curious and wanting to look into their religion. (SARCASM)

No greater hate, than christian love.
Oh, that line is going straight
into a song!
Wow, I just wrote a paragraph to say what you said in one sentence. Well put. 👏👏👏👏
With that judgmental comment, I'll assume you're not exactly a beacon of love to your Christian neighbors.
@@kristinab1078 Mostly, I don't care. As long as they don't care.
I grew up orthodox Jewish I may not be Mormon but your videos helped so much and thank u so much for that!!!!
@@josephpenderson613 well said
@@josephpenderson613 exactly, and when you finally wake up, it takes years to unpack what is what!
It's ok for them to be cruel to you, they're doing it for Jesus. It's what he would want. (sarcasm)
The hate comments show how weak an insecure they are in their faith. A person who dares leave and speak about it scares them.
Christianity is riven with cults and cultiness. Well, it is false and absurd.
All religions/faiths are cults.
Mainline Christianity is equally nonsensical. It’s just that its ridiculous beliefs have been normalised.
Christian-esque
If you look into the history of most religions, institutions, or political movements, you can extract any number of unsavory facts. This is a part of history and not particularly unique to the LDS church. If the LDS church is predominantly white and middle class (similar to several other religious denominations within the US) then perhaps you have not traveled overseas to meet their Japanese or Brazilian counterparts. The average LDS member attends church two hours on Sunday and one or two hours during the week. Their lives and the way they live is hardly the stuff of cults.
This behaviour is proof that it is a cult.
I have been listening to "The Last Podcast on the Left"'s episodes on Joseph Smith... QUITE A RIDE...
Yes exactly
Exactly. People who are apart of a cult don’t know they are apart of a cult. They try so hard to convince themselves and everyone else it’s not a cult by saying illogical and stupid things that make no sense.
Yes, right wing "Christianity" is just that. They have no clue that Jesus taught love. These comments are proof of this.
@@pamelafiske5579 100% right.

You know your right when the criticize you and view points. You are so right and I appreciate your honesty.
Turning your body into medical waste sounds like you’re donating your body to science! I am here for that 🥳
There’s no hate like Mormon love

You've said it better than I would've!
Thank you for sharing. There's no reason you should have to take abuse quietly.
Once they saved my soul they told me to go to hell
They became very critical and decited to be unkind. Yes they are are all programed. They want conformity at all cost.y
I always love the letters that lecture you on dogma and how you must believe the way they do. Yea, I understand The Church and how they think

Wow, so Satan gifted us the CES letter? Guess I owe him my thanks! I mean he's also an LGBTQIA+ ally, despite being a mere spirit facing off against an extremely homophobic god. So I'm doubly in his debt by now! haha ;P

Great video. Keep using your voice to help those who need to recover from religious-based trauma.
