    Abit of a stupid question but do you have a actual video with step by step of how to wire a factory reverse camera to a aftermarket stereo?

    Can this headunit automatically switch on the backup camera when the car is put into reverse? Such as most factory backup cams. On top of that, my car is a manual transmission, not sure if it makes a difference or not...

  • @kenchis5515
    @kenchis5515 6 лет назад +2

    I agree that it is not ideal to have the camera powered from an accessory source but for this head unit, i discovered that wiring it as per the video will solve reported issues where the head unit is not switching back to the home page or the last screen being used when the car is put back into drive/park.
    I originally wired it to the reverse light as you would with any reversing camera but then re-wired it to an accessory power source.

      What if you wire both the camera and the head unit reverse wire to the reverse power?

  • @pukavita
    @pukavita 7 лет назад +6

    Thanks for the instructional video. If you connect the camera red wire to your car's accessory wire, does it mean that the camera is powered full-time while the ignition is on? I understand that the "reverse in" will be used to trigger the unit to stream video from the camera only when the shifter is in the reverse (either that or when the user selected "camera" from the main menu). But isn't this idiosyncratic setup rather weird considering that the camera is constantly powered even though most of the time the unit will not process it's video signal. Unless I misunderstand something...

    • @broderp
      @broderp 7 лет назад +8

      You are 100% correct. Hooking up the camera the way described here is stupid. You don't want the camera powered up all the time. The radio has a rear camera feature that would allow you to turn it on while moving forward, but having had rear view cameras in the past, never use this feature.

    • @anavan7
      @anavan7 3 года назад

      @@broderp @Ervin Nagy Thats the same question I have regarding the automatic reverse camera to activate on the screen. Only way I can access it is when reversing and then select via the camera icon menu and select the reverse cam. I believe my issue is that I connected the red power cable (constant power) to the camera instead of the accessories power 'switch'. I think this makes sense since the screen pops up no active camera when starting it up because it has constant power but no rear cam activation since I'm not yet in reverse. I'll try to switch it over and prove my theory soon.

    • @broderp

      WRONG. Running the camera on all the time is going to wear out the camera. There is no reason to run the camera all the time. Save yourself the headache and just wire the camera to the back up lights. The camera comes on when in reverse, and powers off when not. Your camera will thank you for it.

Currently i have to select the camera then reverse and I have image and it does not go back to home screen just sits at no image so I toggle back home. Am I missing something in my set up or is just the functionality of the head unit?

    • @lionintu

      No man u installed it wrong like i just did. You powered the camera probably through accessories so its always on but didnt use a reverse wire (such as reverse light) to trigger the headunit. Watch this video below for the fix. Basically you should power the camera using the headunit's accesories connection (red i think. splice it into that). Then connect the reverse camera's trigger wire (green) to the headunit's reverse in (purple/white) wire. Thatll automatically trigger the headunit to switch to the video feed. And dont forget to ground properly.

    Hooking up the backup camera the way your doing it works but only if you want a constant feed to the backup camera, now if you only want the camera to power on when you put the vehicle in reverse then connect the red wire that runs to the back on the stereo to the purple wire aka Reverse wire and then tie both red wire at the camera end to the reverse lights and tie the ground wire to the ground wire on the reverse lights. Either way will work though but remind you doing it the way I explained it also could extend the life of the camera

      Both red wire at camera end? One is from camera, where does other come from?

    • @justinw523
      @justinw523 2 года назад

      Tie both red wires at camera end together and wire them to one of the reverse lights in the back of vehicle and then the single red wire at the radio end wire it to the Camera Trigger wire on back of radio. Black wire to a good ground. And your setup should come on old when you put your vehicle in reverse.

    • @justinw523
      @justinw523 2 года назад

      If you only have 1 red wire at the camera end and 1 red wire at the radio then do the same like I said minus the 2nd red wire at camera end, just take the red wire at camera wire end tie into reverse light wire and red wire at radio end and tie into camera reverse trigger

      Thats the same question I have regarding the automatic reverse camera to activate on the screen. Only way I can access it is when reversing and then select via the camera icon menu and select the reverse cam. So I have set everything up, but my camera is not working. I did as you said and used the power pig tails coming off of the RCA cables to run constant power from the deck to the camera. I Connected the RCA power pig tail via butt connectors to the power wire coming off the power harness on the camera, and then tapped into the power of the deck using a splitter with the other power pig tail coming off the RCA. I also ran a trigger wire that is tapped into the reverse lights via a splitter from back to front, and connected that to the trigger wire in the back of the deck via butt connectors. I also established a ground in the back. However, my camera isn't working. I checked the power behind the deck at both the trigger wire and power source, and both of those are receiving power. However, when checking the power for the trigger wire and power wire at the back I detect no power. Mind you my reverse lights are still coming on and all that which doesn't make sense to me with the trigger wire. As for the power wire in the back not receiving power, I have no idea why that isn't working. I also tested my camera on another friends car that is already set up and it works, so there is something that I have done incorrectly in the back. Any help would be appreciated.

    Great videos... I actually bought a Sony XAV-AX100 recently based on your uploads but had some problems with the reverse camera that I wanted to get your thoughts on. I've encountered a frustrating camera glitch and I wasn't sure whether that was something you've encountered when installing this head unit in your clients' vehicles. I bought an inexpensive "Type 1" style camera like the one in your "Backup camera basics 101 for your car" video.
    Basically, the XAV-AX100 unit defaults to display the Rear Camera view every time I start the vehicle - or after I shift out of reverse - if I ever use the Reverse Camera feature once. Upon startup from that point forward, the camera always displays the image behind my vehicle without parking assist lines as soon as I start the engine. When I shift into reverse, the camera shows the backup lines and area behind the vehicle; as soon as I shift out of reverse, the screen goes black for an instant and displays the image as if I touched the Rear Camera button.
    Strangely, the problem stops once I perform a Factory Reset on the XAV-AX100; unfortunately, it starts acting up again if I ever touch the Reverse Camera button on the touchscreen. For the time being, I am avoiding using the Rear Camera feature at all since the reverse trigger seems to work fine whenever I shift into reverse.
    My camera is powered by the red accessory wire on the loom behind the dash. The purple/white reverse in wire in the harness is connected to the positive wire of the reverse light. I've tried wiring the black negative lead from the camera to the body (ground) at one point and later changing it to the negative reverse light wire. Even before I wired the reverse light trigger though, the camera would default to display upon startup anytime after I used the Rear Camera feature just once while the vehicle was on.
    I'm beginning to think it's a software glitch with the XAV-AX100 since performing a factory reset temporarily solve the issue. Sony posted a firmware update on 4/27/2017 to version 1.02.06 but has since removed the file with the warning "IMPORTANT: This update is temporarily unavalable. Please check back later" displayed on their support website ["available" misspelled on Sony's website]. I have an older firmware version right now, but after messaging another user on the Sony support forum with the now-unavailable firmware version with the same issue, I'm concerned I bought a broken product.
    My fingers are crossed for a firmware fix - but is there any chance this is an installation error on my part? Any chance you've run into a similar issue with the backup camera on an XAV-AX100 too? Thanks in advance.

      Matthew King I have also got this problem. I don't suppose you fixed it?
      I had to do a factory reset after the volume control stopped working for my radio and only worked for Bluetooth, since then after I take the car out of reverse, the rear view camera option goes on the screen! So annoying!

    • @matthewking2620
      @matthewking2620 7 лет назад

      Unfortunately, no - I have not come across a fix for the rear camera glitch yet. I've tried directly contacting Sony Electronics through a couple different channels, but I have never received a response from the company.
      My only suggestion would be to try to reach out to Sony directly yourself. It seems like a software flaw that could be fixed with a firmware update - maybe with enough complaints Sony will eventually address the issues in the XAV-AX100.

    • @kenchis5515
      @kenchis5515 6 лет назад +3

      @Matthew King - you have probably moved on from this issue or solved it, but for anyone reading I solved the reversing camera issue with the XAVAX100 by installing my camera as per the instructions in this video (hooking the camera positive to an accessory power source instead of the reverse light)

Because the video cable wasn't long enough to reach the head unit I added a another video cable and spliced in a longer red wire. Is it possible that the extension cable is not compatible with the RCA cable? Perhaps because the camera has active parking lines?

      jdarch65 I would test everything out by taking the red you connected to the purple Rev in and connecting to your red accessory power, this will at least let you know all other connections are good and you can go to the camera without being in reverse.

      By "red accessory power" are you referring to the red wire at the radio wiring harness? Do I leave the connection I made at the reverse lamp in place?

      jdarch65 yes, and the other end should be connected to the camera, not reverse lamp

      I think if you cut one of the wires (white) on the navita reverse camera it causes that . Used for side view or non rear view installations

    if I hook it up to have power all the time led lights would be on camera all the time and at night will get pulled over because license plate can't be read because of bright lights

    If you have a backup camera that has built in lights, you’re going to want to wire your power to the reverse lights, if not, the lights will be on the entire time which is annoying and illegal.

    WRONG. Bad advise. Why on earth would you want to hook the power of the camera to the radio? Most people use their radio a lot more than they drive in reverse. The camera will be powered up a lot and this could lead to camera wear and tear. Many camera's have night vision and their LED's would also be on most of the time. Since this radio has a reverse camera button, the only reason to hook up the camera in the method shown here is to utilize this function. In actual use, this is not very useful. Hooking it up to the reverse light or +12 VDC when the car is in reverse is the best way. The camera will only come on when your in reverse, which is the purpose of it anyways. If you must use the backup camera button on the radio while going forward (again, a waste of time) then do it the right and install a small toggle switch to supply power to the camera.

      I was wondering this. Thanks for clearing it up. This video needs a disclaimer for cameras with LEDs or infrareds. They'll wear out.

      LEDs have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours. That means if you left it on for 24-hours a day, it would last almost 6 years. And if you only run them 4 hours a day, they would last 34 years.

      Parasite Lives Matter Very bad advice to wire the camera to constant ON while car is running. It’s not so much the wear and tear in my case but it would be a ring of bright white leds shining at everyone behind me at night. It’s like a mini flashlight. Not cool. Just asking to get pulled over 🚓
