  • A hospital in rural Idaho will stop delivering babies because doctors are leaving the state due to a ban on abortion. Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks. Watch TYT LIVE on weekdays 6-8 pm ET. ruclips.net/user/theyoungturkslive

"Rural areas in the U.S. have faced a decline in hospitals that provide obstetric services for years, and the fate of one hospital in northern Idaho suggests that abortion bans could worsen the trend.
As The Washington Post reported reported Tuesday, Bonner General Health in Sandpoint, Idaho has been forced to announce the impending closure of its labor and delivery department, citing staffing issues as well as the state's punitive abortion ban-one of the strictest in the nation-and threats from state Republicans to make the law even more stringent.
The state's ban criminalizes abortion cases in almost all cases and threatens doctors who provide care with felony charges, suspension or termination of their medical license, and up to five years in prison. It includes potential exceptions for people whose pregnancies result from rape or incest and people who doctors determine face life-threatening pregnancy complications-but as Common Dreams has reported, such exceptions have led medical providers to withhold care until a patient is sufficiently ill, placing them in danger."

It's not close to death, I have dealt with multiple pregnant women who have gone septic due to non-viable pregnancy. They show up initially and are discharged out and told "come back when you show signs of sepsis". At that point they are beyond treatment and usually die. If they are lucky the pt will just be sterile. These are married women not the single mothers that the supposed " christians" claim to be.

    • @RevShifty

Absolutely *nothing* good comes from these laws. A bunch of brain dead garbage feels better about themselves, but real women suffer tremendously under these laws.
I remember seeing a video before Roe was actually killed off, talking about how many women were at increased risk from the SCOTUS leak alone.
All these anti abortion laws do is put more than one million women a year at increased risk of death during pregnancy. In a country that already had piss poor maternal mortality rates going in. If I were a woman, or even a decent human being stuck in one of those garbage states, I'd be doing everything possible to get the hell out before I risk becoming part of that growing number of unintended victims.

Ob/gyns and midwives, fearful of being accused of terminating a pregnancy when there is for instance a stillbirth, and losing their licence to practice and their livelihoods; then, how many technicians will throw up their hands and say there’s no point in doing ultrasounds, perhaps finding a deathly abnormality that in a sane world would action an abortion only to leave the poor woman totally desperate or needing to get out of town and access proper care elsewhere, so those professions will head to a blue state as well.
Those states with their blanket bans may end up with a higher birth rate, including births of infants that are in dire need of medical intervention on an ongoing basis and so are either a burden on the state to provide that care, or are left with their unwilling mothers to die or live in medical poverty.
But, there would also be a rise in maternal deaths due to insufficient facilities and staff to care for them, or women who cannot afford medical care any more than they can afford to support a child, will just die due to undiagnosed pregnancy-related issues.
And then there’s the issue with how many businesses will depart those states due to not being able to find staff willing to live in a state with repressive laws? How many military bases will take themselves and their personnel to a state where those people will be willing to work? Even soldiers get pregnant, or their family members, and then there’s the transgender angle, because red states don’t like them any more than they like women.
Think of all that lost revenue, all the ancillary businesses that would have serviced the population that has up and gone elsewhere. All that lost income tax.
And what about the newly widowed men who now have to care for a newborn? Do they get paternity leave? Do they take their baby to work? Do they get a supporting parents pension?

The fact that we are now not being able to deliver our children in safe environments with professional obgyn s, nurses etc bc they’re in fear of having legal action pressed against them bc of doing their jobs or having to remove dead or dying fetus from a mother womb is shocking & should be very much enough warrant to sue the state & Supreme Court. It’s terrifying to not know if my children’s (boy & girl) medical privacy can be used against them or me. It’s also extremely exhausting not knowing what future this leaves for their generation. @@mathildeyoung1823 No, it's the state's fault for such poorly written laws. They were too busy taking advice from quarter wit religious leaders instead of any medical professionals, and that left doctors in many states unable to do a damned thing until the dead fetus is literally ready to take its mother life. This started manifesting in some states within days of the trigger laws passing, and will inevitably result in more than a million more dead women annually. In a country that already had terrible maternity mortality rates to begin with.
Because some idiotic belief and brain dead faith always trumps medical expertise for those kinds of clowns. And the doctors aren't 'risking being sued', they're risking their medical license (that thing they spent multiple years and hundreds of thousands of dollars acquiring), and even time in jail every time they do something now deemed 'risky'. And if you lose your medical license before you can move away, there's no guarantee you'll be able to get it back again in another state, especially after any time in jail.
So their whole life's work could be for nothing if they made one wrong move in one of those garbage states, which is why so many of them are already moving elsewhere.

The _REAL_ cost of these restrictions, beyond the political losses or anything else--which pale in comparison, will be *ACTUAL* human lives. And not just the obvious ways either, i.e., severe medical emergency (which childbirth is, at its heart) + no doctors for hundreds of miles = skyrocketing mortality rates, and an increase in back alley abortions gone wrong, but also deaths of despair possibly by those who are victims of sexual assault and abuse now being forced to carry to term, further disadvantaging them to now have to care for result of that abuse and also ironically facing the very severe medical emergency that increases their chance of dying anyway given no doctors. It's a vicious cycle that is going to get people killed--doing the exact opposite of what they claim they are trying to prevent. And this isn't even counting all the babies that won't be born because people are going to straight up do everything to avoid getting pregnant in the first place. Why put yourself at risk in the first place if your chances at surviving the ordeal have been significantly diminished?! Good job red states, way to be pro-life.

Where the majority of children put up for adoption never get adopted unless they are able to get into the system under the age of 2 and then it is only 62% of those babies that actually get adopted before that happens. My body went septic and I was extremely sick. Unfortunately it left our daughter with severe cerebral palsy. Our system is a joke, let alone supporting kids like ours. We never put our child into an institution and still care for her ourselves at home. One most people cannot even afford to do so and second most would not. I can't imagine how many more kids with disabilities will be turned into the state. These kids are rarely adopted and suffer greatly with no loving homes. I was lucky I didn't die at 23 from being pregnant. Some women's bodies cannot handle pregnancy well, and mine is one. This younger generation can barely take care of themselves, hence don't want the responsibility of raising kids. And the horror stories I know from people adopting, because they couldn't get pregnant. Many times the women don't bond with the adopted babies and I know two male friends that were left with the responsibility of raising the adoptive kids alone. As you can imagine the kids now older are a mess and always in trouble in school. Not to mention, forcing meth heads, fetanayl users, and obese women procreating for our future population, doesn't exactly sound like a win/win for country's future citizens.

I hope people begin to "connect the dots": Esp. poor women/poor kids having more babies - what's their end game?
I'll tell you what their end game is - as a few others have noted - poor street kids... Those poor kids and poor women and families will be the new supply for - child labor, and little, if any wages for them, and their family members; a new supply for human/ child sex trafficking (necrophilia is a big draw for those sicko types); a new supply for "cannon fodder".
Here's an example: In ~ 2010, Sarah Cunningham, Republican (of course) of Missouri proposed that the child labor laws be greatly LOOSENED. However, at that time, that sub human's proposal met with great opposition, and rightly so.
If a sleaze would propose laws that that now, I'm wondering if they would pass, instead of being rejected; people seem to be more stupid by the month in those red neck states.

  • @missouriprideusa6241
    @missouriprideusa6241 Год назад +12

So let me get this straight.
Doctors in Idaho cannot deliver babies because of the abortion ban and because the Republicans do not know the difference between an abortion and trying to save a mother and a baby from dying during the birthing process? If the baby is breech or suffocating because the cord is wrapped around it's neck, then medical interference is needed. How is saving the life of a mother and a baby considered an abortion? That's a good way for a mother to die and then she won't be able to reproduce which is another drop in the birthing rate.
Now onto the doctors and nurses who work OB/GYN. If they can't deliver babies, then that's a he'll of a lot less of pay for them. I was going to say that if they can't deliver babies, then they would be out of a job, but they would have to see the patients on a monthly basis.
So, what are we supposed to do? Go home, make bread, gather the eggs, milk the cow, then squat in a field to give birth, like this is freakin' "Little House on the Prarie," which is a great show by the way, or "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman?"
The Republicans want us to give birth, yet they also want us to die before, during, or after childbirth. Make up my mind, Republicans.
I can't believe that the Idaho Supreme Court would even allow this. This sounds kind of fishy, to a sense. If Republicans want children bad enough, then they would see to it that the woman would get the best care possible, even if it means doing a cesarean section on a baby who is choking on the cord wrapped around it's neck. Go figure.

I want to hear more nuanced arguments for pro-choice, from men not just women. There are many reasons why women and couples decide to terminate a pregnancy. Tell our stories. I am 100% pro choice. I had an abortion when I was young. But not for health reasons, but financial and social. I was living in a far away country, in poverty, no security and in a bad relationship. There was no way I wanted to subject a child to that kind of life, and I was so down on myself at the time I couldn't see a way out. I acted out of love and although it was a hard decision, I have never regretted it.
There are 1,000,000's of different stories and reasons why people choose not to continue with a pregnancy. There are 1,000s of young women who can't afford to be pregnant - even if the baby is adopted. Many are kicked out of home and forced to live on the streets. This is a social problem - not just a women's health issue. Removing a feutus is NOT murder. It is NOT killing a baby. But banning abortion kills women.
