- Conservative pundit Dave Rubin recently announced that he and his husband are expecting two children with surrogate mothers and many of his own fans took the opportunity to hurl homophobic tropes at the couple for their decision. "Dave Rubin recently announced on Twitter that he and his husband are expecting two babies via surrogacy. Many congratulated the couple on the upcoming births.
Some of the commentator’s fans were less than pleased. Trolls flooded the comments with homophobia.
People urged those praising Rubin to “repent” and suggested that it was “sad” that the babies wouldn’t know the surrogates who gave birth to them.
“Instant unfollow,” wrote one.
Multiple people accused the couple of “renting” the surrogates’ wombs. Others suggested that they should adopt instead.
Many of the commentators appear not to have heard that it’s possible to raise children in a healthy, loving environment that deviates from the nuclear family.
“Dave, I love you brother. But not this. Do what you want, but a child needs a mother and a father,” wrote one."

I raised my daughter by myself since she was 3yrs old. Her mother, my wife, passed away. She is now 22 yrs old and very responsible young lady. She has a great head on her shoulders. She became a manager at the business she worked for after only a year there at the age of 19. Why do I say this? Because I live in a very conservative area and a very religious rightwing family. And no one questioned that I raised my daughter as a single dad or that she needed a mother. The hypocrisy of it all is why I never became a conservative and became the only democrat in my family

As a gay male living in West Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA, I often forget about how safe I am in my progressive bubble. When I heard the vitriol coming from these people, I was immediately moved to tears. And I was completely take a back because I try to not let the words of people get to me, but I forgot just how nasty people can be when talking about the LGBTQ community. We are not pedophiles who steal children and we are not spreading AIDS. I dream of marrying my bf one day and starting a family of our own. I have the same dream as other straight people. I’m just a human. I just want the same things other humans want. But at the end of the day, love wins and love is what will protect the LGBTQ community. Thank you to TYT for standing up for us and pushing back against these awful narratives. You don’t know how much it matters to us that straight people stand up for our community. Thank you.

I agree. My husband and I adopted a baby boy who is now 1.5 yo and he is our life. He looks at us, calls us Dada and Papa and lights up bc he knows he's loved so much. It broke my heart when they played a video of those two ppl talking about our community like they have half a clue. My parents were Christian Republicans of the compassionate conservative variety, a type which I could respect. We were a military family that had lived all over the world and we fully understood life was not black and white. We had experienced many different cultures so we did not judge others (and hoped they did not judge us when we broke their rules).

After I grew up and moved away, my father died and my mother married a man named Bud who leaned more far right, who was more in the intolerant category, and, much to my dismay, my mother started leaning more to the right too. Any resistance on my part to the new husband was interpreted as me selfishly getting in the way of my mother being happy again.
However, on one memorable occasion, I got through to her. I was telling her that my best friend (a gay man she had met and liked) wanted to marry his partner of 30+ years. Suddenly, my mother's face drew up into a sour primness and she said they shouldn't be allowed to marry because the only purpose of marriage was to create and raise children. I looked at her and drily said, "So, I guess you and Bud shouldn't have been allowed to get married then?"
She looked completely shocked and then burst out laughing! As for me, I was glad to have my mother back for a short while.

Most Christians are so in the title only. And it disgusts me how others will misrepresent my religion to ruin it for others, like yourself. All I can say is that for one part, it is a vocal minority. In searching across differing communities, there are so many good people out there I've found who do uphold the practice of not judging others. And I hate that people who do use my religion to judge are so vocal. I hope you're in a better place though away from judgmental hypocrites.

Children need love, period. That's something most conservatives don't relate to, the concept of love. They are filled with hate and love plays no role in their agenda.
So your saying the relationship between a mother and child is nothing more than emotional? Your saying it can be replaced by any other sufficiently loving relationship? Tell that to your mom on mothers day. Its amazing, if a child is born into bad circumstances and has to be taken from the mother no one would deny that is a tragedy. The child has to grow up with out its mother. But some how when Dave Rubin destroys that relationship before the child is even born that's not a tragedy? His children will probably manage fine, but that is not the rule. Human beings need that mother child bond. It is not trivial. You can not make the exception the rule. And will fully destroying that relationship for your own ego? That is messed up.

They used the bible to justify what they were doing. I grew up in the south and the people who had conservative views were always the one's who hated blacks and gays and any body else who wasn't like them. If you are a conservative your views are based on hating other groups of people. Yeah, I said it.

I wonder how these people would feel about Israel's family with his two wives, twelve sons and one daughter (that we know of), four of which were born from his wives' handmaids serving as surrogate mothers.
