My hips were so tight after a year of sedentary life it took me almost a month to get into the starting position. But it’s been worth it. I feel like I’m walking tall again.
My son wrestles and he has been having trouble with his hip hurting. The coach said he needs to stretch it more. This looks like a great stretching exercise for him. Thanks.
@@robdog7516 if the coach is having him stretch during practice then he shouldn't need to stretch more or do other stretches. Trust me there's no little kids at home stretching they only do that when forced to during sports practice

EXACTLY what I needed to free up my hips before squats and deadlift day.. best stretch ever. Thank you for explaining it so clearly and keeping it as simple as possible!
@Lorin Sanchez literally hip mobility and tightness within the hip capsule. These are not a silver bullet for hip issues but they should be used in conjunction with strengthening exercises.
just the rotation of the rear/internally rotated leg into the external position is f-ing money. I've used it on a few clients and it makes the squat look and feel so much better for people !
Man, I really didn’t know how tight and how bad my hip mobility really was after trying this😬Something I need to start working on daily. Thanks for the video
I’ve got terrible hips- tendinitis and I fractured one of them in high school, so they always ache. Did these stretches on both sides and the pain is gone. Unbelievable!
Great sequence! I find I don't have the mobility to achieve the basic 90/90 position without lifting my lead knee and trail hipbone off the floor. Is there a similar position that requires less flexibility that I could practice to gain the necessary mobility I need for this move?
I’m not an expert on the topic but I would suggest to keep trying to do this exercises and go as far down as you can, with time you will gain more flexibility and mobility to do as it is supposed to be. Just have some patience and be safe with it, stretch your boundaries but not to the point of injury, good luck!!
Crazy. I did this 1 time per side, maybe 70% of the way cause I’m so tight, and doing a “lunge” to get up off the ground I had way more power to push off the ground with. Can’t wait to get more into hip mobility!
It's amazing. Thank you for uploading. I am using this drills to solve knee pain problem. Poor Hip E.R or I.R muscle strength change position of femur and tibia. so If we can activate muscles around hip joint very effectively, we can avoid ankle/knee/pelvic injuries.
Unfortunately I am so inflexible I can't get into this position with a straight back. I have to lean 20 degrees to the side. My goal for the next month is just to get into the starting position. Any tips for people in this situation?
Whenever I try to lift my left leg in like a standing high knee position then try to extend my leg out of that position I have pain and a kind of popping in my left hip anyone have an idea what that could be
Yeah … first position, I have to use my arm to hold me up. Barely can get torso vertical. Second position, I can’t turn and square off my torso. I’m embarrassingly tight. Great video though.

Is it normal to have to have one hand on the ground at all times during these moves? I tried doing them as shown in the video, with no hands on the ground and its almost impossible for me...
Okay on one side, almost impossible on the other when my bad hip is the back leg. Would you say just work at it with hands posted behind me? Its uncomfortable but no sharp pain exactly
I had pinching at first. But I kept working on the stretch and it went away and I don't think I need to see a doctor. The rest seems like good advice .
Mark Wildman was showing a similar mobility drill and he said, "If your leg feels like it's going to pop out of its socket, you're totally doing it right."
Did these stretches before a leg workout and couldn’t even workout after. Now for the past 3 days my hip has been hurting and clicking. Is this common when introducing a new stretch?
Too bad the PT/CHIRO/DOCS didn't help me at all. They had me doing all the wrong stuff. What does it take to find someone who knows how your hips work?
Not so much since in this exercise they are working on the mobility of the hip capsule, as in the head of the femur moving in the hip socket. For the anterior tilt you'd need to work on controlling the hip position and strengthen the anterior chain (mostly abdominal muscles - not crushes of such, more of isometric controlling work for example hollow body holds ). The anterior tilt is lack of control, strength and also tightness on some muscles no single exercise will fix it.
Very late reply. Hope your doing better with your APT. Some tips: strengthen glutes and abs, and stretch your hip flexors and lower back. Check out Athlene X, he has a good video explaining this.
is anyone else not feeling anything? when he enters what looks a very slightly like a butterfly stretch at 2:26 I can feel it in my hip tendons but and maybe my glutes but that's it...
You need to look at Kelley Starrett and Smashwerx channels. You most likely have extremely tight muscles in that "system" of muscles. Of course I'm no doctor, I have used the three of these amazing sources to completely get rid of all my chronic aches and pains. Me? 5 knee surgeries (2L, 3R) 15 years of football and 20 years of powerlifting.
This stretch will only place an undesirable effect on the knees if the range of motion is taken too far/deep for the capacity of the structure(s). Reduce the ROM (by placing the trail leg on a block, for example) and reassess
You seem to be doing a lot of inferring from behind a screen, but who knows, maybe you are right and maybe Cameron's knees are on the way to a catastrophic failure from hip 'adhesions'. Such a shame
