I like it that you returned back to instructions / teaching. For me, makes it much more fun to watch it. I hope that comes as a positive feedback!
I remember Sir Nick Faldo made an instruction video in the 90-s. He said it should feel like you just lowered the right shoulder when you started the down swing. This is exactly the same tip.
Thank you for the Faldo tip. Very good.
Love your vids Mark and how you explain things. They absolutely resonate. One thing I've been trying to do is keeping my feet/knees a bit more dynamic, like I'm a goalie and about to dive left or right. Helps with my weight distribution as I find it's just so easy to address the ball, bend the knees and then feel absolutely stuck. Feeling the weight more on the balls of my feet, the inside of my right foot helps stop me swaying off the ball and be a bit more explosive
Mark’s explanation is crystal clear, informative and entertaining. Brilliant tip, thanks
Incorporated these ideas into a range session today and immediately saw a serious spike in ball speed across the whole bag. Love it!
I have really gotten alot of value out of your instructional videos Mark, thank you! Between you and Danny Maude I have definitely cleaned up my swing and shaved a few strokes. I wish I was local so I could come in for a lesson but I'm in the US, so maybe one day when I'm in England for vacation 🙃
Half of the videos online aren't teaching this, majority of golf instructor on YT are just telling you to leave the hands and turn, literally making thousands of golfers out there worst. This is why I stopped watching random golf instruction YT videos and I stick to the few true and trusted, you being one of them, great vid Mark.
Brilliant insight on my amateur swing. This and related videos made the biggest impact on my swing this season.
Thanks Mark! You are giving really high quality instruction for free. Wish I could pop into your shop for a lesson and pay for some of this great info. I have dropped my handicap from 9 to 4 over the last few years largely due to the ideas you share.
Finally, someone I understand and showing drills for corrections. I have had a Baseball background for a really long time and the only way I improved was by having drills to do. Great video
Always enjoyable and enlightening, Mark, thanks. It reminds me of a interview snippet I saw long ago with Jack Nicklaus, who was asked what he thought about hip turn in his golf swing, and he said "I don't think about it" -- and when the interviewer, who had misunderstood, followed up with "So you don't focus on what your hips are doing during the swing?", JN repeated it more clearly: "No, I've never thought about my hips at all -- I just don't think about them when I'm hitting a shot". Which to your point about how different golfers 'experience' their golf swing/movement, I suppose JN was the kind of golfer who was much more conscious of/focused on the shoulder turn/tilt, and who simply let his hips respond to that instead of vice versa. I think that makes sense to me too (which is why your other related video on not 'turning' you shoulders was particularly helpful, i.e., it's the right kind of shoulder *tilt* that seems to make the other parts fall into place for me...I think).
Great timely reminder. Alex Elliot describes it as ripping the lawnmower cord (like you sort of mimic around 8:36); Russell Heritage as the left hip to right heel back and right hip to left heel down.
This drill has given me the most productive range session I have had in years… the distance gained with my strikes is shocking for me thanks for the drill
Thank you! I had no idea my hips were returning to level on the downswing until I tried the first drill the turf interaction is so much better!
Amazing move. Tried it out and found everything feels better, swing is more stable, follow through more balanced and ball speed up. Thank you and all that with a dodgey shoulder.
This is really good, thank you for posting! I shared with several others.
Great topic and well presented!
Game changer for me this lesson . I feel like I push forward with my left foot which pushes my right hip back and my left hip down
Mark, this is a video that I needed so much. The hip turn was killing my swing and leaving me so frustrated with golf.
Good lesson Mark. Thanks!
Hope it helps Brian.
Another great vid Mark, do you have a video on lead arm through impact? Thanks
That seems a great tip Mark, I'll try and sort myself out with this action, thanks 🎉
Hope it helps.
great video mate - was already working the problem, without understanding what the problem was...
Wow there’s a lot of great info there Bruh 😎 👏🏼
Love it!
Another helpful session. Have my SmartSole 4.0 Chipper on the way - looking forward to getting some cheat/gains in the coming season.
Ive been trying to pick up the game for a month now and this is exactly my problem thanks for the video
Interesting… I wonder if I’m doing some of this when I try to hit my 100yd shots since they’re strangely unpredictable (mostly weak) compared to my other shots. I had been so frustrated I just started hitting 7 irons like a chippy wedge to get on the greens, but the lack of spin and descent angle makes it harder to stick it. LOL. Thanks Mark! I really had to watch this to figure out what the title was all about and I’m totally glad I did!
Great video. I reall connect with your teaching. Wish I could take lessons from you. Mark 63 from WInter Park Florida.
Seems like you know whats going on in my game and make videos just for me 😂 seems like a personalised one this time, exactly what i do in my swing, am working on it but taking time, ill try this too see if it helps and will mention to my coach. Thanks.
Wow thank you for this lesson which ties together many concepts we have been working on. Here's a video suggestion related to the side bend idea: we see players like Will Zalatoris (who had back surgery Saturday) and Juaquin Niemann with huge amounts of side bend. How much side bend is too much, dangerous or not sustainable?
Great videos mark definitely helped me, just would like to ask would you use the hip tilt to start the back swing?
Great videos and keep up the good work and thanks.
Thank you
You just cured my early extension and shanking woes with this swing thought… 🙏🏽
I try to get my trail hip up and sort of behind me. So far it seems to work for me.
Thanks
Need you to come to Austin Texas and give a lesson!!! great stuff MC!! but not surprising... well done!
Thanks Chris
Game changer this one.
Nice 👍🏻
Great video Mark, can’t wait to give this a go at the range 👍
I think I was lucky, I always knew how to hit a ball with a bat or racket using weight and timing, golf was by far the hardest to get good at because there are so many tilts and angles but this is basic stuff that golfers should be feeling before they’ve hit a golf ball.
Massive massive distance gains...Just got back from the range doing this...7 iron improved from 150 to 170 meters with a slight draw...Problem is now driver is low and hooking...even adjusted face open...not sure now...
For the transition and early downswing, should the lead hip still point down , then come up as the downswing progresses?
I've been working on this for a month 20 yards gain on my irons, but not working with driver yet
How do you combat getting stuck and releasing early with all that hip action? I seem to never be able to transfer my weight on time.
Thanks Mark. Any tips for those of us who are lefties playing right hand? I reckon i would cause serious damage trying to throw with my right.
Maybe try with a ping pong ball?
You’re a lord 🤘🙏🔥
Does this work for driver also
I am 100% rotating hips and shoulders and not pushing/tilting
I've achieved this exact rhythm before I'm sure or it. But but my problem is consistency. I cannot recreate it on command 😢😢
The best driver of the golf ball ever Greg Norman, that was his swing thought to turn his right hip pocket behind him. Jack Nicklaus turned his hip behind him, all the long drivers turn their hips as far as they can.
Sounds like you maybe didn't watch the video.
@@MarkCrossfield I’m not want to argue, but I think if you go look at Greg Norman swing, you’ll find out his hips don’t tilt with the driver
@@TedsGretsch it’s fine. This is not a argument, you think and I like that.
I will go with the measured know 👍
Play well 👍👍
Mark not to worry I’m a fan and have been for a long time
I can do all these things fine .... but as soon I have to hit a ball with a club in the hand, nothing is left :(
Fine if you’re athletic and don’t have a bad back! If you’re back is painful most of the time turning your hips is the only way to get a decent turn. It’s not turning your hips that’s the problem, it’s turning and swaying away from the ball is what causes poor striking! Your drill holding the club against your hips is perfect to promote a turn that also stays over the ball, promoting more consistent stikes
I get my hips tilting in the backswing by thinking about getting my left knee in front of my left toes.
I like that
So DO turn your hips but in a different way
Yeah, exactly. I don't even get it.
I honestly don't get it.
The is one of the click-bait videos where the instructor recommends doing exactly what he told you not to do. You can see here that the instructor absolutely turns his own hips. He also has another video where he recommends not turning the shoulders, and the proceeds to turn his shoulders. Ok. Whatever dude.
Haha almost like you might of missed the point. Haha perfect comment.
@@MarkCrossfield Yeah. Your comment is about what I would expect from a guy like you.
You should delete this comment. It makes you look clueless.
@@digginestdog5824 Does he or does he not turn his hips in the swing he recommends? You're the one who's clueless.
I'm sorry but the stupidity of your title "DON'T turn your hips in the swing" when you're clearly turning your hips in your lesson but describing it as tilting is totally disingenuous! you may be be tilting your hips but you're still TURNING them! Enough with the click bait titles and be more honest and genuine, you're better then this.
Happy for you to not watch bruh. Honestly, it’s all good by me. The content is smart the title helps golfers looking for hip turn/ swing advice.
You don’t like it, all good. You do you I am good with that. 👍👍
Play well and keep learning.
@@MarkCrossfield Mark I enjoy a lot of your videos but this idea of "not turning your hips" in the title is just simply bullshit. You can't swing the club correctly without turning your hips! The question is how do you turn your hips in the swing. Just by reading your title alone you deceive many new golfers and make it difficult because you're attacking a fundamental move in the golf swing and making it harder to understand. Sorry, but if you're going to contradict basic fundamentals of the swing for click bait purposes you should be called out on it.
Mark would much prefer your tipping (ha ha) to go towards your club recreational. golfers. Twenty minutes on tilting and then imitating awkwardly so called amateur golfers.
Do you have issues with club recreational golfers nah only with amateur golfers. 😂
