🇹🇳 Visiting the Real Life Lars Homestead (Star Wars) - Tunisia

- Allow me to share one of the most incredible mornings of my life so far, in which me and my dad walked out into the desert just outside Naftah, Tunisia looking for a 40-year-old hut. This is, in fact, the set that was built for the original Star Wars film during the shooting block that took place in Tunisia, way back in 1976. This particular set served as the moisture farm in which Luke Skywalker grew up, and has become an iconic location in cinema. Since the production team couldn't afford to take the set back to London with them, it was left here to become derelict over time, but has since been rebuilt by fans, who crowd-funded the restoration project in 2011, making it a very special location for other fans to visit.
If you decide to take this trip for yourself, make sure you research and plan extensively before you do so - as we failed to do! The area has been known to slip in and out of the 'no-go-zone' for tourists as advised by the British government as it is very close to the border with Algeria. We were lucky to visit it at a point where it was safe, but that may change in future.

If you had waited a while longer, i'm sure the jawas would have been along with some bargain droids.
that's racist against Tunisians
@@erich_l4644 Bruh how
@@erich_l4644 What the fuck?
Erich Hu what the hell
Erich Hu no everything is about race
This is definitely going on my bucket list
Same!
You should go to Tosche Station next to pick up some power converters
We actually did go to the location used for Tosche Station too 😂
@@Sammej_ was it there?
@@BcBTheta It was - it looked exactly as it did in the latest episode of the Book of Boba Fett too
Before the dark times, before Disney
Hey, Disney also gave us Rogue One and the Mandalorian.
@@toddsmitts and 3 god awful movies
@@LZMP60 Hey, what do you find awful about them? I thought they were amazing! I love how they brought back all the original actors
@@tempotfl the fact that they destroyed Anakin's whole arc, literally rewrote the force, Rey being an ultra Mary Sue and such, only a few exemples
@@tempotfl oh no, it’s a DISNEY CONSUMER! Execute Order 66.
looks like it's starting to deteriorate again. well it's a good thing they restored this when they did in 2012
It’s a bit of a shame but with how many loyal Star Wars fans there are out there it wouldn’t surprise me if some others came along and restored it again when it starts deteriorating heavily again, it’s a shame that the switch board they put by the door is gone now
@@TraceurHarryG1 this actually would be my life goal to just restore the whole homestead one day and even dig out the whole "cave" thing
correction. The original homestead for the original movies was destroyed after filming. This version was for the prequels that was later restored by fans.
Also, this is only the location for the igloo, while the sinkhole and actual homestead was filmed on a completely different location that serves as a hotel today.
@@Matt..S what is the hotels name?
@@tumas2482 Sidi Driss Hotel Tunisia.
Not for arachnophobes though. The ceilings are apparently covered in tiny funnels with spiders (in the Star Wars caves). Note that this hotel does NOT have the igloo. Those are two separate locations a couple of miles apart. The igloo from the video only has a mounded circle on which Luke stands and the camera hides the fact that there is no sinkhole. The sinkhole with the caves is at Sidi Driss
but re-built in the same place/location right?
@@mark.nelson1 yes
MAGICAL PLACE ON HEARTH FOR FANATIC STAR WARS.
If I were ever able to, I would love to go out to Tunisia and see this iconic location.
The ground looks wet. Strange for a desert
Dave C well it is a moisture farm 😏
Not that strange
Its actually near a beach, its tropical rather than desert
Deserts do get rain from time to time.
Going to this hut at the perfect time to look at the sunset is definitely on my bucket lisy
Me, expecting a Tusken Raider to suddenly pop out the door.
You just randomly hear “KENOBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII”
Wish you got more of the hut and less desert.
The Hutt.
Goals. I love that home. So much nostalgia for many generations both new and old. May the force be with you.
I heard there’s a mad old bloke named Ben who wanders around beggars canyon. The Sandpeople don’t bother him much. Be weary.
Brilliant - Well done guys dream come true
I saw the restoration diary video. They added the button panel by the door. But it looks like someone destroyed it.
Holy carp so cool
Can you tell us the exact coordinates of the location?
Fake! Only one sun.
Exactly!

@@awesumgregheffleyu are no better watching a 4 year old video by ur logic😭🤦♂️
This feels like the star of an analog horror video
I so wanna go there
It's just crazy to think Luke Skywalker stood right there 🤯
should have brought a landspeeder😉
Wow I did’nt think this was a real place, I thought it was just a movie set when they made the movie
Woah
So they find their car surrounded by Jawas trying to dismantle it for parts
What was that large object next to the Homestead? Looks like a piece of a sand barge from ROTJ.
its the big dish thing you see in the background when luke says its too dangerous with all the sandpeople.. in universe, i think its the landspeeder garage
Bro he didn’t show anything but the hut. I wanted to see into the hole that Luke stands over and looks into the sunset
Same
I don't think this was the actual movie set area unless th bottom court yard got filled up ... but why then? In both 1977's ANH and 2002's AOC there was a bottom area with mud dwellings and this was an upper entrance to the downstairs court area I thought analyzing both movies!?
See ya later!!!! “Where you goin” im just goin Luke skywalker house.
Can u actually drive to the igloo itself?
Imagine you go there and randomly hear “KENOBAIIIIIIIIIIIII”
Legend says this youtuber lives in tattoine
Ig they couldn’t sell again after what happened to the previous owners
Stolen the door panel again! What a shame
What?
You would die out there that's just a safe house for sand storms I think Luke's real house is his uncle's evaporator farm
Imagine they forgot to press record.
I had no idea it was real
George lukas: I'm soo 👏
Proud...
Coordinates NOW!
🇰🇵
All this walking. Get on your speeder~ ;)
You left the earth and went to tatooine
It smells burned there.
This was uploaded on the day the release of The Land Before Time and Oliver & Company, but anyways I thought Luke's house behind the scenes is big inside a bit underground like how we see Luke and Luke's aunt and uncle eat and drink in the inside.
People should never be signing something that’s a piece of Hollywood history that’s incredibly disrespectful
i think its fine. its not incredibly noticable and ots their way to leave their marl on history. they did drive out into the middle of nowhere for it
BuilderBro.Boom! That doesn’t matter whatsoever you wouldn’t drive to DC to see the Declaration of Independence and then sign it would you?
BuilderBro.Boom! Not that you’d have access to it which is my point exactly, the only reason people are writing on it is because they can but that never means they should, that building is history.
@@WTFJOYA ok but they helped rebuild it.
when donating bricks to a monument you sign the bricks.
and ehem driving to the desert to visit and old movie set, then rebuilding it, you deserve a little place in history.
Fuck Hollywood.
Bro is on tatooine💀
FAKE: there’s only one sun
