I love these reflections and how Mark remembers the interactions like they were yesterday. Beautiful memories!
Except Mark lies at the end, he says they were all haveing a lot of fun filming the original movie, which is untrue, all of them hated it, they thought the movie was gonna fail, and all of them hated George, they saw him a controling loser without a vison or talent. The entire time the whole cast was complaining to the point that George kept having to fire people left and right and replace them with friends and family.
@@autistic_potato1037 Not really a lie, it could have been a bad professional experience and he still could have had a good time interacting with his co-stars. Was it maybe an omittance of the overall experience? Sure, but this is for a charity video, I don't see the need for him to get into the nitty-gritty of what made the experience bad as well as good when this is just supposed to be a fun look back as a way to raise money.

I don’t know how this movie got made. There was just so much going on. It would not have happened without Mark, Carrie, and Harrison. They did a phenomenal job and kept it all together because my understanding is that George barely gave them any direction. And everyone, especially the esteemed British actors, thought it was going to be a disaster. But what a miracle it was. At least to me. My bothers and I were mesmerized. We believed it all. I remember the lines that went on for blocks. Literally! (At least in my neighborhood.) We couldn’t wait to see the movie. God bless my dad for standing on the line to get the tickets.
George Lucas is a terrible director. The original trilogy would of been terrible if Marcia Lucas and the cast didn't force George to make changes.
@@DoctorJammerAnd yet, the trilogy that George was NOT involved in is the biggest embarrassment in not just Star Wars history, and but the history of film-making in general.
I honestly cannot tell if George is a brilliantly hands-off director who just makes sure the right people get cast and leaves it in their hands, a master of _jikokanri_ so to speak... or a boob who blundered into something wonderful, like a latter-day Chance the Gardener.
I mean the formula sure stopped working for the prequels.
@@DoctorJammer COLIN SLATER IS A BETTER DIRECTOR
Not really, you can see it in the original trilogy script and stuff in the original that George just can't do dialogue and has others that forces changes to make his vision. If these same people assisted George in the prequels it too would of been a masterpiece.
It's why despite the problems even when it came out people accepted the prequels as canon since everything was there and it was all really good it just needed a bit of a rewrite....and less Jar Jar

George Lucas is a genius "say it the way you wanna say it it will be regional" always thinking of the overall universe then the scene I swear to God George Lucas is a world builder
This is why Lucas Star Wars succeeded and Disney Star Wars fell flat. Lucas understood and was constantly thinking of the big picture. He did not become bogged down by minute details, he let the film and actors flow organically but he was always there in the background to set the course and direction of the production
He was testing people acting abilities
A galaxy you mean?
George is an idea man.
He really sucks at nuanced detail. Which Mark is basically pointing out throughout this whole audition. George's actual moment to moment screen writing is lacking.
Star Wars was always going to be saved by a talented editor. Full stop.
@@mojo199To be fair, that approach was kinda overlooked when Lucas did the prequels. He had a lot of people offer critiques that helped shaped the original trilogy, but by the time the ‘90s rolled around, he was completely overwhelmed by yes-men and fanboys that ate everything he said up. The prequels were pretty much what happens when the creator is given too much control, and Lucas clearly knew that since he tried on multiple occasions to have someone else direct the films, but they were too scared to take the reigns.
This man is a treasure in everything he's done and I mean everything.

"Never. I'll never turn to the dark side. You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me." -Luke Skywalker
Daryl Lander I know some hate the Last Jedi. But the one thing I really liked- Luke pulled off the most epic Jedi Mind trick ever. I actually like from the moment “he arrives” on the salt planet through the end. It showed just how powerful Luke had become. Han was my fave overall character because he had to always go against his “I care only about me” nature all the time because of how much he ended up caring for Luke and Leia. The twins figured a way to both get into his heart and he didn’t know how to handle it 😂. But to me- Luke is by far the greatest Jedi. His heart was pure. He saw good in a man even Yoda and Obi Wan had given up hope on. Even his nephew. there’s no doubt Luke could’ve beaten Kylo. But he just couldn’t bear going after him so he goes into seclusion over grief of pushing Kylo away. No one can convince me that Kylo would’ve been able to beat Older Luke. Luke beat himself over Kylo.

One of the few bright spots to the recent sequels is that it gave Mark an opportunity to return to the fold of public life, after three decades out of the spotlight. He’s exceptionally witty, down to earth and unpretentious, so it’s nice to see him back in circulation.

This kind of thing is gold. Every actor needs to do this at some point. We take "reaction videos" for granted now, but can you imagine if the classic actors of the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s could've done this for their iconic performances (or auditions) before they passed away? We'd have Mickey Rooney cracking up at his young antics, or Audrey Hepburn watching her young self in 'Roman Holiday'... But sadly we never will. Someone should be spearheading a project to get as many older actors to go on record, with either reaction videos or DVD commentary tracks (where they're literally sitting there watching their own movies with you while they reminisce about the experience!).... before it's too late (e.g. Carrie Fisher)

"Who talks like this?"
We did. For 30 years. Your fans.
1975 was different...
Also, that particular line is especially ass
To be fair, you don't talk like that in normal discussion. That's what he's commenting on. That the line wasn't exactly natural.
Speak for yourself. Even as a kid, a line that overstuffed would’ve made me cringe. Mark was right - for an actor that young, that was a pretty good insight.
40 years.
That was so wholesome and touching! Please feature Mark in more videos!
"He was Captain America and I thought I was Bucky!"
Ironically they might cast Sebastian Stan as young Luke in newer media. XD
I can see that happening.
I hope so. It’s fascinating how much they look a like!
Nah
Guess what
Yeah Sebastian kinda looks like Mark.
“Luke Starkiller” oh snap, that would’ve spiced things up 👀
The name Hans Solo is really growing on me. They should have made Harrison do a German accent.
Nein
Nope. Don't make Han Solo German. Our German accent while talking English doesn't fit him.
nah that would imply that theres a german planet somewhere and thatd be wacky as fuck
Hans Yolo
@@HunGerMovies 😂
This show you ( even thought Carrie RIP, Mark, and Harrison ) make fun of their lines, how important these movies are/were in their lives that over 40yrs later they still remember their lines. Love it 😍
It's not only because the movies're important to them for launching their careers, but also the franchise was the FIRST true space sci-fi film to be made, just like how Jaws opened a path to shark movies & literally made it a genre. despite the likes being so goddamn common these days, films at a scale like that was unheard of some over 40 years ago. hell, even action movies seemed stupid back then!
ALL of those 3 names made it to the history book of development of cinema pretty much overnight, by being a part of a franchise laid out by one considered more or less a nutjob by many. no one is gonna forget their part in making something THAT big & groundbreaking.
Falcon Windblade Star Wars wasn’t the first sci-fi movie...remember Flash Gordon? The opening crawl was an homaged to Flash Gordon.
@@viggolover1 That was why i said TRUE. despite Flash Gordon being a classic, it's laughable in production quality & ain't half as significant as Star Wars in cementing how the genre's done. There're definitely other space-themed movies made before Flash Gordon even, but none were taken seriously in terms depicting 'space' visually.
Falcon Windblade the homage was to the Flash Gordon from the 1940’s and not the one from the 70’s. Indiana Jones movie was also an homage to those type of matinee movies 🎥
I will always love Mark Hammil. The dude has and endless supply of charm. Wow.
I came here from the edit of him sounding like Kermit and looking like he’s reacting to the mandalorian
Same hereeeee! :0
Same!
Yeah fuck that edit
Mark Hamill Basically Being Sebastian Stan’s Dad
And He mentioned Bucky!
sebastian would be perfect TO PLAY young luke if they ever needed too
imagine sebastian doing a cameo in the mandalorian as luke
How would Mark Hamill react if he saw Sebastian Stan with a similar young Luke haircut?
Would he like it?
For a while I thought Mark was actually Sebastian Stan's dad because of all the memes I've seen
Mark Hamill- "Look at that haircut"
Also Mark Hamill- Still sporting pretty much the same haircut, only trimmed down a bit
Yeah, most of it by mother nature not a barber.
@Teddy James That's not just a short haircut, his hairline is receding, a little bit but that's what happens when you get older.
Now that he says it, 70s Luke DOES kinda make me see Bucky Barnes. Imagine such a movie back then...
No need to imagine: ruclips.net/video/YoE2rA_9GFI/видео.html
It's also worth remembering that in the 1970s, Bucky was:
A. dead for quite some time
B. basically just Marvel's version of Robin
it's so sad, Mark is still so passionate about this character and he was so eager to reprise his role and disney fucked it up royally. it killed him to see his beloved character go to waste like this and we felt the same
It was George Lucas' idea to have Luke turn his back on the Jedi. It was one of the few things they kept from the original script, along with having him reluctantly train a new female hero (except he named her Kira).
I wish Mark was my uncle. He seems so nice
That would make you Kylo Ren. 🤔

Mark Hamill: "I thought he was Captain America and I was Bucky"
Me: Bucky is played by Sebastian Stan who looks like young Mark Hamill!!
God is funny.

“She knows the art of mind control.” Ah, clearly George intended Leia to be Force sensitive from the start. Obviously. Not at all a late decision.
It probably was, since a certain makeout scene also happened in the movie where Luke communicated to her using the Force. Then George thought, “Shit I gotta explain this”, and he came up with a weird ass solution to something that didn’t need solving.
@@Gemnist98 yes. I know.
@@Gemnist98 ...sarcasm slipped by you, huh?
George might have taken influence from Dune in that aspect, since the Bene Gesserit married royalty and had similar psychic powers to the one described here
She’s a Skywalker, of course she’d be force sensitive
What he said about Carrie is so true. If you told me the “idk who you are or where you came from but from now on you do as I tell you” line was improvised I wouldn’t doubt it one bit

This is a man who's been treated well by life, and who's generally done the best of what he's been given. I absolutely adore the effortless kindness and big-heartedness this man exudes. Makes me smile just looking at him.
It's nice seeing that at least some of the old guard (speaking generally of older actors now, not specifically about anyone in the Star Wars cast) aren't turning into crotchety, hateful old men.
When he says in the beginning "who talks like this" I heard a little bit of his Joker coming through in the laughter LOL

Amazing how he still can be positive when talking about Star Wars. I would be furious after what Disney did to Luke. I guess he's just a really good guy..
He needs to speak out or this will be done to other movies.
