- This is the complete video of the Save the Lars Homestead project in Tunisia, undertaken by 6 fans from around the world with the support of the Star Wars community. In less than a week, in May 2012, they restored the Lars Homestead, the home of Luke Skywalker, in the salt flats of Tunisia, south of Nefta.
I'd like to visit this someday! Hell if it starts deteriorating again I'd love to help!
Rusty Shackleford Owen was such a bastard. He never even let me come inside.
Count me in!
Obi-Wan Kenobi lmao im dying
Preserve this we must for it's the way of our kind
This is the way.
I visited the dome a few months ago. It still looks great. You guys did a great job. Well done.
This belongs in a museum. Love your work.

Congratulations!! Its beautifull... Greetings from Lima in Perú!
Bravo bravo. Thanks you all so much. The force strong with you all it was
What a gift to future generation. Thanks a ton!
Totally awesome guys, good job. I love star wars.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Love the video. I thought location sites such as this was designed and kept in a studio or film lot of twentieth century fox or on the Lucas Ranch. Now...myself and many other fans can appreciate the urgency to preserve and upkeep such historic film sites. Good job guys. Been a fan of StarWars since its release in 1977 when my mother first took me to view the film.
fantastic work!
WOW! congratulations and very inspiring
you guys did a great job
Spot on Tee, you can see it from miles away. Hopefully people who might have driven by unawares will now be tempted to stop by and take a look.
I watch these videos about once a year because it's a fun journey. Sad thing about all this is the environment is so harsh there, people will have to go back once every 6 or 7 years to fix it back up. However, I don't see a problem with people donating money or time to do that for the forseeable future. I know it's starting to deteriorate now but nowhere near as bad as it was in 2012. The cement seems to be holding up better than just plaster.
Fantastic work! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope to visit both the homestead and Mos Eisley one day! :D
Thank You. You are awesome
Nice job guys!
congrats to all of you guys, may the force be with you!
Thank you🥰😍
Thank you.
Amazing work, guys! I was there in 2007 and it was in OK shape, but five years definitely took it's toll. I'm curious what it looks like today.
felicitaciones, es un maravilloso trabajo el que han realizado.
buen trabajo gente eso que isieron fue grandioso muchas grasias departe de todos los fans de estas maravillosas peliculas
What an odd world we live in, where people can go and do this to something this significant in movie history. I guess it's off the tables for JJ Abrams to use this set now.
Edit: 5 years later
I'm glad you guys restored this. JJ was never going to use this, and no one will again. It's for the fans. No one else.
+Sam Brown
JJ doesnt use sets, he uses a computer
AKN Concept You have eyes?

Thumbs up! The one guy that gave it a thumbs down is probably a J.J. Abrams fan.
Nice job impressive really mpressive
Someone should have brought a roller brush 😅 nice job preserving the home
This unexpectedly made me cry.
In a good way, I hope?
@@markjedi1 Of COURSE ! It was moving to see you all coming together to restore something that means so much to some people.
@@jaywillingham4085 It was a pleasure. Hard to believe it was almost a decade ago...
may the force be with you
Well done, guys. Don't love the white, and wonder if it will ever naturally weather to the movie-accurate color, but not the end of the world. I wish the concrete work around the coder was neater as well, with sharper edges, but nevertheless 8.5 out of 10! That you for investing your time, money, and hard work. At least someone cared enough to save an iconic piece of Star Wars history.
Hi NomadRepublic - seems you are a bit late to the party. This project ended two years ago. In the meantime, many fans have returned and seen for themselves that indeed it is nicely weathered to the movie-accurate color. You can find loads of photos on our Facebook page. The entry coder has been replaced as well, as the original one that we put in there was stolen only weeks after completion. We will keep returning from time to time to check if it needs touching up. Everybody is welcome to do so! :-)
Well, Mark...I can certainly admit when I'm wrong, and I definitely am. Saw the pics on FB and it's weathering GREAT! I guess it only takes a couple of years exposed to the elements of the Tunisian desert to do what would take decades anywhere else. And that's ridiculous about the coder. People are so lame. Maybe karma will catch up to that idiot when he tries to move a repro on ebay, lol. And yes, one day my contribution will be to satisfy my OCD by making sure the mud work around the coder is flawless, lmao.

BRAVO
amaziiiing ..
Hi guys can anyone advise me i am going to tunisia next month i havent booked yet but what is the nearest holiday resort to booke near djebra? obviously am also going for a break on the beach but need to be near the locations, i am only interested in Lars bens home and lukes home hotel
Peter, that's tricky, because the locations you are looking for are very far apart. If you are going for a beach holiday on Jerba, you'll likely be in Houmt Souk on the northern coast of the island. Ben's Hermitage will then be easy to find and is only a few kilometers to the south west in the direction of Ajim. However, the Lars Homestead (what you refer to as 'lukes home hotel') is the Hotel Sidi Driss in Matmata on mainland Tunisia, some 100km to the west and little over 2 hours by car. If you are also looking to visit the Lars Homestead outdoors as seen in this video, that's even further, all the way in the west of Tunisia, near Nefta. From Ajim, that would mean a 6 hour drive from Houmt Souk. The best advice I can thus give you is to do more research on the locations first to avoid disappointment. You can find it all in this book, which you can also download as an e-book: www.lulu.com/shop/mark-dermul/tatooine-reunion/ebook/product-1m486qep.html?page=1&pageSize=4.
goosebumps :) at the end "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ....TOOOO"
Beautiful. Maybe next they can do something with the interior. Add a little starwars shrine so people can prey to lord vader.
if only someone could live there and build the hole place....
They really should build like a small Tatooine tourist re-enactment park to bring money in. George and Disney should look more into doing one here.
I know this is the original location back from the 70's but what if somebody copys it? Just the building that white dome? How would it measure and stuff.I'd love to see those from around the world.
Wonder how hard it would be to replicate the build and live in it?
I guess the Lars Homestead has seen two empires.
I APPLAUD YOU!!!!!! MTFBWY
Yet this was 2012, i truly hope it's been kept up. Anyone know?
How is it today?
those guys are fucking awesome
This reminds me of the 2 Ronnys joke. " This broom is my great grandfathers! its only had 2 new handles and 3 new heads".I know you meant well and with good intentions but it is no longer the set built in 1977. Its a fan recreation. It should have been left to fade away.
+crissyhowes
after watching this i have to agree
Ture Fan Boy Gangster,S You Guys Rock!
if that was bigger, it would make a really practical home for withstanding climate conditions.
fantastic, is fatastic this job

Is the Lars Homestead still there? I read on this link ( theswca.com/travel/tunisia/jerid/jerid.html ) that only the crater remains, and it doesn't show in the pictures taken on the site (unless the guy ended up at the wrong place). The homestead still looks like it's there on Google Maps, but I don't know when the satellite picture was taken. I absolutely have to go! At some point in my life, I'm gonna take a month or two to visit all the Star Wars locations; the homestead's interior and exteriors, the cantina, Mos Espa, the slaves's homes from ep. I, the Dune Sea, Hoth, Endor, and Skellig Island.
Yeah, gonna need a lot of credits for that.
The link you refer to is from Gus Lopez' website, who visited the site before the iglo was rebuilt for the prequels. Hence a lot older than the actual location. Yes, the iglo is still there...
Mark Dermul Thank the maker!
(and the makers of the new igloo!)
The REAL Jedi`s!!! :-)
It's Jedis,NOT Jedi 's. Sheesh
@@ronderulijkummar7453 it's Jedi, not Jedis. You wouldn't say Chineses.
always keeping an eye out for Tuscan raiders i presume
Based on vids since you restored it. You may need to go back again..
Indeed! The elements have not been kind to the structure.
its a shame as you would think disney would want to not just reward your efforts in preserving it but would want to activley be involved in keeping it saved. Great effort by you all tho
Is this definitely the one from 1977, not the one from 2002?
It's the one from 2002, the one from 1977 was completely gone.
i would go ahead and build the hole in the ground..it would cost a bit but if only every star wars fan donated 1$ it could me maded
one day someone will come to build it in stone ^^
I'll help next time.
I'm half and half on this. On one side, it's nice to see it restored to last. On the other side, you pretty much defaced it. It's better to let things rot (which I feel makes it more special) than to hide its important age.
Just wish it wasn't made a bright white, I liked the Sandy color better, no offense but it looks kind of like an igloo in a desert.
Its not really thee Lars Homestead now.... More like a covered up version of the screen used house that can never be seen again.
U ruined it. Shame on u.
It's preserved for many of us it's a my home in the Star Wars world. I love the Lars farm I would die if it was not preserved one day when I'm older I'll go here to preserve this when time comes.
How did they ruin it? They said in the video that the white color would gradually weather out to become how it originally looked.
yah
#starwars_seven_2015
Bryan Wright Clearly you didn't read my post...
You ruined it! If you want you have could build one complete new besides the real one -.-
