That "pillow" at the heel is actually a characteristic of the 1080 I like, it's such a good place to grip the shoe, making the my 1080 not needing any lacing for each wear. I'm glad they keep it with The Balos, as I feel that shoe will be my upgrade when I run mine to the ground.
Its 190 or even 200 € online in Europe - for that price I can get an adidas prime x strung v1! While the 1080v13 sounds really interesting I'll not buy a pair before I see big discounted offers.
@@thecorporaterunner 🤦 ... I have not claimed otherwise (Same Release prices). Just buy them when they are discounted. The V12 cost when releases 190 euro without discount (like the V13). After 50km, this is my most favorite daily trainer at the moment. Some how, this is more max cushioned than my Hoka shoes (Arahi 6, Rincon 3...) - even more than NB More V4. As a heavy runner, I prefer this kind of soft on my feet. PS: 1080v13 looks better in reality.
I would love to see this fine tuning of the fresh foam X density and the less rubber approach on the outsole that contributes to less overall weight trickle down to the 880v14.

There are very few decent running shoes left at that price point. You should look for discounts/coupons/deals or waiit until new model is being released so you can get the last year's better modes at 30-40% discount.
Will be interesting when the More v5 releases. Slowly making the 1080 feel like it's redundant in the lineup. Glad it's improved foam from last year. I love the look of my v12s, but they don't fit well and the foam just feels lifeless compared to my v4. Great review as always. I'll have to eventually pick up the nitro 2 with how much it gets recommended on your reviews haha. Cheers!
Thanks for your review as I'm looking at this vs the v12. My current daily trainer is the 880v12. 1080v12, More v3 are my recovery shoes and I pick depending on how my legs feel. I planned to use the 1080v12 as a daily trainer but it is softer than what I expected so I gave the 880 a try. The pricing of the 1080 line has pushed me somewhat to the 880 as I can usually get the 880 at half-price and the 880v12 is soft enough. Okay: this was a description of the shoe and competitors. I'll wait for your review for fit and feel but I guess that we'll have to wait a few weeks after launch for that.
Hi kofuzi ! Before watching this video.for my rotation 2024 I’ve picked : The nb 1080 v13 (cushion) The topo cyclone 2 (tempo) And the hoka rocket x2 (race) And the Hyperion max as a daily trainer ! So I am totally in line with the pairs with Thanks for all your video
The 1080v12 has been one of my favorites for recovery runs. It wasn’t super plush, but I was okay with it for runs shorter than 15mls. Beyond that, I reached for the SuperComp Trainer. Looking forward to version 13 and pairing them up with the SuperComp Trainer 2’s during next year’s training block. Maybe I’ll get lucky and catch both on sale before my spring / summer training block. 😅
The 1080 v13 is my next NB after the More v4 is retired. I'm totally enjoying the Cyclone 2. I have the Pro 3 as well, & am waiting for the Pro 4 next spring. Thx, Mike.
I might be the only one who feels like this shoe is actually pretty versatile haha. I've recently finished two pairs of Nimbus 25 so maybe that's why I feel that the 1080 is actually lighter and fairly bouncy. So far got 50+ miles on it and and it's such a pleasant surprise. I'm noticing that I trend slightly faster in this shoe, like it prompts me to move in a tempo workout style for some reason. I also land exclusively on mid- to fore-foot with this shoe so my knees seem happier too. Huge fan so far!
The only thing that I actually put 500+ miles on was surprisingly the ON Cloudmonster. I need to replace them and I’ve seen a few deals start to pop up. I tore my Achilles and broke my other foot soon after I finally recovered from my Achilles injury which made me slow. Anyway, so it’s tough not to wear max shoes. 1080s were always very nice. I’m a big athlete so running is like side chick for skiing and rock climbing. Oh wait, I live in Florida now. Life is hell but its running season down here and I’m ready to pound soulless mile after soulless mile of white concrete in either New Balance More or stick to my ONs. These look like they would wear out quick on me.
I really liked the look of the last two versions of the 1080 and whole this is kinda cool in its ow. Way, i was really hoping for more of an evolution in looks from the last one with maybe a better fit 😔
Cant wait for your review once the new versions of new balance get release. Just wanted to know how does it compare to clifton 8/9 and more v4? would you recommend buying this one or between those two which are currently on sale?
I just tried these on, imo not for me, the extra foam might work for some, but to me. It feels unstable and i might roll my ankle in them. The 880 v14 is just perfect for me
I thought you might comment on the comparison between the NB More v.4 and this shoe. I have the More, but for me there is just too much medial support despite it selling itself as a neutral trainer. I will probably replace it with the 1080 v.13, which is an ounce lighter anyway, another issue for me with the More v.4. Finally, I stay completely within the NB line for my workout and race day shoes, SC Trainer's and SC Elite respectively. I tried the Endorphin Pro 3 and they are way too firm for my liking. Can't imagine running a marathon in them. But, then again, I have been running for 45 years and a little beat up. 😆
I’m just starting to run, my first trail marathon is in February, I’m using the 1080 v12 and the hierro trail shoe. Both shoes feel amazing. I’m a nubie so we’ll see where this goes.😅😅😅😅
Surprised they didn't send you the all black colorway! #KofuziKolors 😊 Ever since I tried the 1080v11 where my heels absolutely HATED its Ultra Heel, I've steered clear of this one. 😕 So many other options out there these days.
I am considering this shoe. I imagine something similar to the Asics Novablast. I think it will pair well with my New Balance Rebel v3 (tempo trainer) and my Saucony Speed v 3 (longer workouts), use the 1080 as a recovery/slow runner.
Thanks for Your review and insight. The 1080 v12, I finished the sole. They were great and super confortable. I finished them since they were my favorite, but to be honest, mostly walking, 17min per mile rate. Only some sprints in between for 3 miles. But they were a great pair of running (walking) shoes. I´ll try this new version. How does it stand against the Asics gnimbus 25? or Clifton 9 (another incredibly confortable pair)
I've had several versions of the 1080 and it was fine for recovery runs or steady base runs. I currently use the ASICS Nimbus 25 for that and see no reason to change. I think the Hoka Clifton 9 is better than both of them because its more versatile and the cushion is just as good.
You mentioned it was versatile, soft and responsive... sounds a lot like the Novablast 3. If you had to pick one, which one and why? Thanks in advance!
Yes. I don’t remember if I included a specific reference to it being a good travel shoe in this video or if it didn’t make the final edit. But definitely versatile and comfortable for travel
I'd say try it out too whent they come out. For me, a lot of running shoes just don't feel right in my stride when I'm just walking bc they're designed for running. But this feeling is surely subjective 😁
Love NBs-most of my shoes are NB, but they could have considered using just a little more exciting design - they look like something a pensioner would wear! 🤷♂️
Have been mainly running in Vaporflys and now I'm tossing up between these New Balance or the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 for my daily for the majority of my work (around 90%) and then running an AlphaFly or Endorphin Pro for race day. Just a two-shoe rotation. Any input or advice here would be fantastic! Love your work
The 1080s are a very different shoe compared to then Endorphin Speed 3. I love both shoes but the 1080s don’t really work well for anything other than easy/recovery runs. The Speed 3 are way more versatile
Just got the 1080 in yesterday at our store. Two thoughts: 1. 1080 looks WAY better in person vs online and 2. Can NB go dual density and make a Frankenstein called the 980?!? Bottom layer from the 880 and a layer of the new 1080 on top?
Tried few new balance shoes and it seems to me their foam across the board are to soft for my liking, only exemption is rebel wich kind of works being close to the ground.. not a big fan of triumph 20 , but puma deviate 2 is fantastic!!!!! If you heavier runner who not kin on mushy foams dont even look at 1080 or triumph and do yourself a fav getting deviate 2
I am a fan of their last stretchy fabric material, especially on the Nonlace 1080 v12. Have you heard if NB will ever create a laceless version for the 1080 V13? Kind of hard to match with their latest mesh materials.
I acually like the 880v13 better than the 1080v12. 880 seemed to have more spring in it. I would be interested to see a comparison of the 880v13 and the 1080v13.
v13 is great and versatile, but it is hugely overlapping with the More line up, especially they decreased the drop in this version... Seems the only difference between these two lines are just heel-to-toe drop, but ... 2mm?
I feel like you have reached only the beginning premise laid out in this video, which means I have been unsuccessful in conveying my thoughts on this update. that's on me.
Thanks for the review! Been waiting for this to drop so badly! I have the More V4 and I love it for easy long runs to just get in the mileage. Would you recommend the 1080 V13 or to hold out for the More V5? Feels like there’s a redundancy in the NB line up here, but then again, I don’t know what changes to expect on the More V5. Also, how does the 1080 V13 stack up against the ASICS nimbus 25? Thanks
I think if there’s one takeaway sentence that I’d like people to glean from this video it’s that New Balance has reduced the overlap between the More and the 1080
Kofuzi, great video as always. I’m in the process of revamping my shoe rotation. My current daily trainer is the Ghosts 15 and Hyperion Max for longer and tempo runs. My plan is to get Endorphin Pro 3’s for marathon runs/racing, keep the hyperion max for some shorter workouts for speed, but I’m trying to decide for my easy, long run shoe that provides the cushion where my legs/feet will remain happy. It seems based on this video that either this 1080 version or Triumph 21 is my best options, any thoughts?
some of my bigger taller friends tell me that On clouds can sometimes flatten out prematurely for them (the exception being the Monster). I think the 1080 is a very compelling, non-cloud alternative
I can get the SC Trainer v1 for 130-140€ so it doesn't make much sense to grab this, also the Nitro 2 is constantly on sale for 110-120€ so I bet this shoe will be around 130-140 within 3 months
Hi @kofuzi yesterday i tried Asics gel kinsei max it is super good i found those shoes are good other than adidas and nike brands. What is your opinion on that shoes. Please can you make a video on it
I got these shoes in a local store. I was looking for an affordable yet reliable pair and found this. They were the softest of all and for a good price. So far I love them. I got them in pink because white gets dirty quickly and I tend to run outdoors. Designe wise is not the cutest but very comfortable and that matters
I cant be the only one who had a poor experience with the 1080v12. I’m 6ft, 195lbs, and always found running on the v12 to be dull and dead at foot strike. Sure, the cushioning is nice, but for me it always felt too smooshy and unresponsive no matter what pace I run. The rebel v3 on the other hand is phenomenal. Supremely light, so enjoyably responsive, and versatile for easy and fast runs. Too bad the 1080v12 didn’t work for me on days I wanted smth a little more gentle Not sure if the v13 is worth another shot
Yes, very similar. I just picked up the v13s today at my local DSG and I tried both the More G4’s and these. Very similar feel if not identical feel. Decided on the 1080s as it came down to looks 👍🏽
Any thought on how many miles we can get out of this new shoe? I have the V108012 and racked up 360 miles. They’re starting to feel flat and have lost some of their cushion. Overall the upper is holding out pretty good, which tells me they’re good quality shoes, thanks
Thx for the answer. While I agree more v4 is a max cushion shoe and v13 more of a daily trainer, I was curious if you could only pick. Some of us are on a budget. Great content as always !@@kofuzi
I discuss relevant shoes when relevant, but I also don't provide exhaustive lists of comparisons. if you have a specific nike shoe you'd like me to contrast against, please feel free to ask a specific question or come to the livestream that I host five times per week. fwiw, there isn't a comparable Nike shoe. The primary issue with a $165 price tag is the competition from the $140 Novablast 3.

I've had several versions of the 1080 and it was fine for recovery runs or steady base runs. I currently use the ASICS Nimbus 25 for that and see no reason to change. I think the Hoka Clifton 9 is better than both of them because its more versatile and the cushion is just as good.

v13 is great and versatile, but it is hugely overlapping with the More line up, especially they decreased the drop in this version...
Thanks
I think if there’s one takeaway sentence that I’d like people to glean from this video it’s that
New Balance has reduced the overlap between the More and the 1080
@@kofuzi thanks for the response 👍
Would you say 1080v13 is a good replacement for More v4? Love the cushion and impact protection of More v4 but it is too bulky
great review. Tks U
Thanks for watching!
this shoe is softer than my Rebel 3 which is unbelievable. I like this upper a lot better than the v12.
the upper change is quite drastic
how is this compare to the Fresh Foam more v5 or Invincible run 3?
Hi Kofuzi, anybody ever told you you look just like Mateus Asato?
Na, Mateus Asato looks like Kufuzi
Kofuzi, great video as always. I’m in the process of revamping my shoe rotation. My current daily trainer is the Ghosts 15 and Hyperion Max for longer and tempo runs. My plan is to get Endorphin Pro 3’s for marathon runs/racing, keep the hyperion max for some shorter workouts for speed, but I’m trying to decide for my easy, long run shoe that provides the cushion where my legs/feet will remain happy. It seems based on this video that either this 1080 version or Triumph 21 is my best options, any thoughts?
Triumph 20 is better than 21
@@paddywiggle oh yeah? I just saw some 20’s on sale. Thanks for the heads up.
@@paddywiggle whys that?
Would you recommend this shoe for long distance walks or as hot summer day street shoes?
Thoughts on this vs the On Cloudsurfer 7? Heavier 220-230 casual runner here looking for comfort during easy miles.
some of my bigger taller friends tell me that On clouds can sometimes flatten out prematurely for them (the exception being the Monster). I think the 1080 is a very compelling, non-cloud alternative
@@kofuzi I have the 1080v13 ordered. Seems like the best option for me right now. Had Hokas and Altras in the past.
In your opinion how does this compare to the nimbus 25 in terms of softness and response ?
Less soft more response
@@kofuzi thanks, will be try the V13s when they are finally released
I can get the SC Trainer v1 for 130-140€ so it doesn't make much sense to grab this, also the Nitro 2 is constantly on sale for 110-120€ so I bet this shoe will be around 130-140 within 3 months
1080v13 or Clifton 9? They seem very similar
Why you lying the shoes didn’t even come out yet and they don’t even have a pink color
@@CamTheMan8 maybe I have the older version but they do have a pink version of this fresh foam evo
Too bad the 1080v12 didn’t work for me on days I wanted smth a little more gentle
Not sure if the v13 is worth another shot
I would have guessed that your experiences would have been opposite
Does the feeling is comparable to the More V4 ?
Yes, very similar. I just picked up the v13s today at my local DSG and I tried both the More G4’s and these. Very similar feel if not identical feel. Decided on the 1080s as it came down to looks 👍🏽
what about for 100km trail race?
Just wish I could get this colorway. I doubt Japan will get that color.
Koh do I get these for 165 or novablasts for 110?
theyve FINALLY got rid of the forefoot blown rubber!?
That creamy milk color way is 🔥. Why you tease us like that?
Good things coming
Is there an equivalent of this shoe with FuelCell? Would it map more to the Rebel or the SC Trainer?
Any thought on how many miles we can get out of this new shoe? I have the V108012 and racked up 360 miles. They’re starting to feel flat and have lost some of their cushion. Overall the upper is holding out pretty good, which tells me they’re good quality shoes, thanks
Depennds on yr weight
NB's $5.3B revenue for 2022 was "only" 21% more than 2021. Gotta do better this year... 🙃
Dude- dope t shirt! What is it?!
Could you elaborate on which shoe you like more between 1080 v13 vs more v4?
They are different shoes for different things. It’s like asking whether I like an SUV versus a sedan
They’re both excellent
Thx for the answer. While I agree more v4 is a max cushion shoe and v13 more of a daily trainer, I was curious if you could only pick. Some of us are on a budget. Great content as always !@@kofuzi
Curious why one would go for the 1080 at $165 when you can get the SC Trainer V2 for $170?
Different foams, different experiences
Wish you included Nike for comparison. That's my benchmark usually
Maybe the Vomero, but I have not yet tested the 17.
The deviate nitro 2 @ dicks sporting goods has been 120 in certain colors for a while. It's one of those "see price in cart" deals.
Hey Kofuzi how is the fit of the midfoot?
i had irritating ankle rub with v12. how does the v13 feel around the ankle bones vs v12?
