    Thanks for the video, although I don't really agree with some of your negative comments. I purchased a pair of 1080v13 several weeks ago for a variety of reasons. I'm 64 and have been struggling with arthritis in my right knee. I've been running in Saucony Endorphin Speed since version 1 and I needed a shoe to run lots of slow zone 2 or base running. It has taken several runs to get comfortable with how it works, but I'm now pretty happy with my pair. As for fit, I don't find them too narrow, although I did go up 1/2 a size. That's not unusual for me. I take a US 10.5 in my Speed 3 wide, but US 11 in my Speed 3 standard width. This is my first pair of 1080, of any version, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am happy with them. The price is an issue, although it is the same price as the Speed 3 in Australia. I tried the Nike Invincible 1 and couldn't run in them (I took them back after just 2 runs). That shoe was way softer that this shoe. IMO the 1080v13 is a great easy/long run shoe, although, at my age, I'm not looking to run faster runs in it right now. I won my club's cross country championship this year, and am not looking at any races in the foreseeable future. I'm happy to just be running again, with the aid of my 1080v13. In a few months, when the strength program my physiotherapist has given me, starts to work, I'll start to look at my half wore Speed 3. Until then, these shoes are fine.

      Most of the complaining comes from the reviews on the NB website. Other review sites (Believe in the Run, Road Trail Run, Doctors of Running, etc.) all liked the shoe as well. The shoe doesn't suit my purposes, but I think it can work well for people looking for a daily trainer or something specific for long/recovery runs.

      This premise seems to be what's called click bait. He gives it 1 star to support his own biased narrative. A 1 star shoe is one where the outsole falls off within the first couple of weeks. This is of course not a 1 star shoe.

    Ben, it was your review many years ago that first got me in to the 1080 series - I purchased v10 back then and it remains my favourite daily trainer of all time. I got through 5 pairs in total but sadly they're no longer available. I tried v11 which had major heel cup/slippage issues, and v12 which was ok but a bit dull (and ran a size too long). I'm very happy with v13 so far but you're right, it's too soft to be a do it all shoe which is a bit of shame. I am loving it for easy / slow recovery runs though and so it's slotted quite nicely in to my rotation - it's extremely comfortable. And totally agree on narrowness issue - I had to go with the wide version.

    I bought this shoe two weeks ago because I'm a tall runner (197 cm, 85 kg) and because I had some issues with shin splints. After trying a lot of things to get rid of the pain in my shins I tried to find a shoe as soft as possible to reduce the force that goes through my shins. In my opinion it helped me to reduce the pain but I can confirm that it is only a shoe for your easy runs because you loose a lot ground feeling and energy while running fast. But for easy and easy long runs this shoe was worth the money.

    • @MiracleWarriors
      @MiracleWarriors Год назад +5

      A high drop shoes like the Mizuno's Wave Rider have helped me to get rid of shin splints. The higher the drop a running shoes have, less stress required from the feet and calves, but your upper legs and glutes will do a bit more job. I kept switching the Rider with 12mm drop and other shoes from 8mm and 10mm, and in years now, I never had shin splints. Got to be careful with those high stack ultra cushioning shoes stress more the glutes and upper quads since it tricks the feet and calves thinking that they did not have to work hard ,because the impact was "softer". So, it is a good idea to get a higher stack of cushioning shoes that are also low drop ... and for that matter, the NB More seems awesome with its 4mm drop only.

      Point is that not every run or train is supposed to be a heavy one. I do 3-5km on them at a 5 pace and they’re wonderful. I have to agree with this. I’ve had my version 13s for eight weeks now and have the following:
    1. Used for slow jogs/walking 10-15k steps per day (~10km).
    After 8 weeks the outsole has started to wear through with many flat spots and foam starting to be impacted.
    2. Initial step in comfort was really nice, especially the tongue. After 8 weeks it feels like it’s bottomed out and has stayed bottomed out.
    3. Initially great for long periods on foot. Now I get a dull ache in my heels.
    4. Stability - very unstable in cornering or uneven ground. Though grip was excellent (until outsole wear impacted it)
    6. Agree on narrowness, but the wide (size E) fit beautifully for me.
    Overall, after an initial endorphin rush from the plush feel I am very disappointed. The wear rate is terrible. The foam seems to need more spring back and flattens (compresses/bottoms out) with everyday use. I am heavier though (85kg) so lighter users may not get this. Stability I was aware of so I can’t complain too much and hence why I reserve it for walking/light jogs. Overpriced and underwhelming sums it up.

    Im in love with this shoes so im not going to try to be objective! You feel you are running over pillows, the sense of softness and comfort is extreme. It is not for everybody and understandbly so. The shoe withstands every distance, it is the kind of shoe that when you enter the zone you loose track of how many km are you doing or which terrain are you into cause you dont feel any kind of pain, discomfort or, at some speeds, effort. In regard to the speed, of course it is not for speed work or tempo, it is a max cushion shoe. To me it is way faster than rival comparable shoes like nimbus, invincible, cumulus or ultraboost. Ive had no problem going many kms in paces between 4’15”-4’30”, below that it is true that the shoe does not get it… done.

    The 1080v13 isn't an all-round daily trainer by any means. If that's what the 1080 series is supposed to be and has been in the past, then I'm sure many people are disappointed by the v13 because it's an easy/recovery shoe for running slow. Personally, I love it for easy/recovery but wouldn't use it for tempo and any type of speed work. I had the 1080v12 but didn't like it at all. For me, it wasn't a daily trainer and it wasn't good for easy/recovery. This is way more to my liking for easy/recovery runs. I have the More v4 and that's strictly for short recovery runs after intense long runs or speed workouts. It forces me to run slow or jog at a leisurely pace.
    I've done slow long cruises up to 10 miles with the 1080v13 at around 9:00/mile (around 5:40/km) pace and I've enjoyed the runs very much due to the plush comfort and midsole softness and saving my feet and legs from impact. For tempo or marathon pace long runs, I use the Prime X Strung (v1 and v2), for speed stuff I use the Takumi Sen 8 & 9, for all-round daily training stuff with mixed runs I use Boston 12, Rebel v3, and Puma DN2. For races, Vaporfly 3, Adios Pro 3, or SC Elite v3. The 1080v13 works perfect for me on days I just want to pamper my feet and legs and go easy and slow. I typically run 70~80 miles per week.

      @io-rj6sk Год назад +1

      what do u think of the unstableness of the 1080v13? i was getting ankle niggles doing park jogs with it
      also u say ur short recovery runs are purely in the more v4. what km/hr and how many km's would that look like for u? hm softer is the 1080v13 compared to more v4? i mite give it a go
      and just another question, when u mention ur dailies like boston/rebel/dn2, those could technically do ur other runs too rite? like tempo/speed work, u just prefer it for those all around daily training type seshes ?

    • @alexkhan2000
      @alexkhan2000 Год назад +1

      @@io-rj6sk I'm a light guy (5-7 167cm, 127lbs 57kg) so stability hasn't been an issue for me. I can see stability becoming an issue for bigger/heavier runners because the foam really is so soft.
      For short slow recovery runs with the More v4 (about 5km), I'd go at around 10:30/mile (6:33/km) pace. With the 1080v13, I'd go more in the 5:30/km to 6:00/km range for my easy runs but sometimes as slow as I'd go with the More v4 for recovery. I'd go 7~9km with the 1080v13 for the easy runs.
      Yes, those daily trainers could surely go slower for easy runs too, but they are better for moderate-to-fast paces. The Rebel v3 is surprisingly good for easy paces and it being so light just adds to the fun factor.
      The daily trainers like Boston 12, DN2, and Rebel v3 are just more versatile for all types of runs. The Boston 12 is really snappy and on the firm side as far as the feel/ride is concerned, at least for me since I'm light.
      The DN2 has more of a muted and chugging-along type of feel and ride compared to the Boston 12, but it can pick up the pace pretty well. The Rebel v3 is light and bouncy and is the most fun.
      I had the Novablast 3 and the Endorphin Speed 3 and they are good shoes, but they didn't fit my feet very well and I just prefer the feel and ride of the B12, DN2, and Rv3 more.
      I've kind of settled on Adidas Adizero shoes for the faster stuff and the NB shoes for comfort and the easy/slow runs, generally speaking. Adidas and NB both fit my feet better than ASICS and Saucony (and most Nike) shoes for whatever reason and they complement each other very well. Puma shoes have worked out well for me as well.
      I think you just have to go with what feels the best to you and what fits your feet the best. It took me a while to figure out that some shoes that have generally received rave reviews don't work for me and that it's just personal preferences.

      @@giovanbattistafichera8439 It is kind of redundant with the 1080v13 but they are still quite different. The More v4 is heavier and clunkier with very little energy return. As I mentioned, I use it for slow (like 11:00/mile) recovery runs of around 3~4 miles. With the 1080v13, which is lighter, bouncier and more nimble, I'll take it on longer runs (7~10 miles) at easy paces between 9:00 and 10:00/mile.

    Thanks for the review Ben. One reason I like New Balance is they are one of the only brands that regularly offer their entire line in wider widths (my feet really splay, I need wider fitting shoes.) I live in Canada, and so was able to get the extra wide width, which fits me perfectly. So many of the new, trendy brands are just not wide enough for me. I never really intended this shoe as an all purpose runner. For that I use my Saucony Rides, which I view as one of the most underrated, consistently reliable (and lightweight) shoes on the market. If I want to do more uptempo work I use my New Balance Rebels, which are also quite soft, light, though they are really good at picking up the pace.
    As someone who is recovering from injury and looking into finally getting back into marathons, I've never actually used a race shoe so at the moment my lineup is 1080 for LSD runs and recoveries, Rebel v3 for uptempo, Saucony Speed 3 for longer efforts at faster/threshold paces, plus a Saucony Ride 16 as a shoe I can use for anything.
    Weird that they do not offer extra wides in Europe. I hope this is not a trend of all brands abandoning wider options.

    Just got this shoe to try as I went through two pairs of Nimbus 25 and wanted to try something different. Love that it seems to force more fore- to mid-foot strike for me due to a lower drop (I think this is 6mm while Nimbus is 8mm?) so my knees are happier. The two runs I've taken this shoe on so far had felt effortless and I think it's a keeper. The cushion does have a slight sinking feeling but I haven't felt that it's sucking energy yet. Maybe it's because I'm already used to the plush Nimbus 25. I do question the durability and how fast the foam will flatten and wear out though, because right now fresh out of the box it feels so nice but I can see that over time it'll feel dead. Hopefully it'll last me at least 300 miles before that happens!

    as someone who really appreciates wider fitting shoes, mainly because my toes really splay, I find I only have three brands to chose between: New Balance, Saucony and Hoka. Most other brands only provide wider fits in one or two shoes across their line. New Balance provides wides, extra wides and even has a race shoe in a wider fit.
    This shoe fits me perfectly in extra wide. I like that as a recovery/LSD runner, for tempo runs or even on race day, I can probably get away with a slightly too snug fit, as I just take the shoe off as soon as I'm done. But, for long easy runs, it's nice to have a wide fitting, comfy shoe. Another thing I've found, since I've relocated from a very flat city, to a much hillier one, is that, with high heel drops, I find myself uncharacteristically heel striking on the downhill. I am typically more of a mid foot striker. Almost as if the shoe strikes before I anticipate landing. Fixing heel lock helps a bit with this, but I don't really notice it on 8mm drop or less. The natural alternative to the 1080 is the cheaper Saucony Triumph, but I worry the higher drop will present the same problem on the downhills. (also, in Canada, the 1080 13 and Triumph 21 are the same price.)
    Again, thanks for the review.

    I bought these as a daily / recovery shoe which could also handle my long runs. (Basically one shoe to do it all apart from racing). Overall I'm really impressed! I've done strides at 4:00/km and faster and they can definitely handle speed. Admittedly they are slow to accelerate due to the soft foam but they manage to hold pace really well. I think it's down to the low weight - my UK Size 9 weighs only 261g. I can't tolerate more than a 6mm drop so unfortunately I can't run in most shoes on the market. When reviewers talk about running in the Nike Zoom X invincible or Novablast this is probably the closest I'll get to that experience. Couldn't be happier with these and I will probably log a tonne of miles in them if they hold up.

Although this shoe is too narrow for me it could be useful for someone like me that needs a very cushioned ride. Not fast but will protect your feet. I bought the 1080 V12 but I found them painful to run in. After a while my calves were just permanently sore. The foam on the v13’s looks a little like the Elite RC 2’s. The main difference of course is those had a carbon plate to give you the all important bounce back on toe off. I like elite 2’s. Done most of my half marathons in them…however a little like you mentioned in your review about the 1080’s you do feel like you have to work a little harder in them being the foam is so soft.

    All these "geniuses" complaining that it doesn't come in "extra wide" 4E when it clearly does. Not to mention the regular wide 2E is already wider than most brands 4E. Shows how valid these so called reviews are. the real issue with the shoe isn't even stability, it's the insane midsole compression in the heel combined with a lower drop that causes these shoes to feel like they're going into negative drop when you're just standing around. This makes it feel like the shoe is going to hyperextend your knee. Other than that, they are really nice.

    I feel companies have moved away from do it all shows as a way to make runners build a “collection” and easy day shoe, a tempo shoe and a race shoe. When I started running marathons the shoe to have was the first Pegasus Turbo, absolutely amazing shoe, I trained and raced Berlin in them. The current Peg Turbo is nothing anywhere near version 1 and 2.
    I think if you moaned to NB about not being able to do speed work in v13 I think there answer would be but the Rebel V3 it’s great for speed work

    This shoe is the same as the Ultraboost line: heavier people love them. You won’t understand how good it feels to be able to run everyday and not feel any pain whatsoever 🤣 I’m a 6’3-6’4 190lbs Basketball player and my oh my I love my pair of 1080s.

    This shoes are comfy & made for heal strikers and for heavier people like me 211 pounds. Much firmer than fuelcell with no plate that is.

    Found v12 for $37. Hated v10, and like the More v3. Thoughts?

    Hated the version 12, felt dead underfoot, just lost confidence in NB lately. Your blue choice is ok, for me a little boring but then I really like crazy loud designs in my shoes 💖
