I think having an experienced climber actually in the tree with a beginner guiding as they go versus just communicating from the ground can make such a huge difference in terms of anxiety, being nervous, etc. as well as being able to provide tips and advice more effectively. Great job!

Hey August you are a great teacher. I wish I had some to teach me I been working for a tree company for 7 months now I drive the bucket truck saw mechanic truck mechanic and been climbing everyday for 7 months. I have great boss and crew but they don't teach me much with climbing just tips here and there. a lot of it is me figuring it out watching you're videos. I always stay tied in twice. Its hard to figure it out but I have gotten a lot better in the last 3 months. Trusting my zig zag my lanyard my saddle. We do a lot of trimming trees here in new mexico so no spikes just a lot of limb walking and pulling you're self up. I love tree work even if its dragging brush and chipping. I love the guys I work with. My worst fear is picking the wrong tie in because we do a lot of cottonwoods and dead elm trees. Stay safe Evan did great. I hope to learn a lot just sucks trying to figure out what I am doing wrong in tree. My boss been doing this 13 years and makes it look easy. Keep making videos helps me learn more. ✌

Having an experienced climber next to you is really invaluable for a new climber! You can hear in his breathing and voice that he's nervous, but having the master next to him gives him the confidence to keep going! Tough job, but excellent experience. Climbing on skinny trunks like that is nerve-wracking for sure until you're settled in and top tied.

Hey August, it's great to see the contrast of perspectives in this video! From many years of experience to a first timer. I've experienced much of these same struggles as a newbie with work positioning, and maneuvering around widespread tree canopies as they are very common here. I've tried climbing up etc with just the main tie in like you showed Evan here at one point instead of struggling with the flip line also. When you're rope angle is right and there are places to grip, it seems like the way to go for getting around quicker. It's great that Evan gets these experiences to build his knowledge of not only the work skills, but the perspectives on how the Monkey Beaver products help facilitate that work. Great job!

Just incredible the way you have made your rookie climber feel comfortable. You are an amazing teacher and I can surmise from experience that this has something to do with being a dad. My Dad has been climbing for 50+ years. Yes, he's in his 70's and still climbs. It's amazing to watch. He told me you'll never learn how to climb if you dont learn to take your hands off the tree. Every beginner does the same thing - hug the tree and death grip limbs, instead of trusting the climbing line and lanyard. If you fall, those are going to save you, not you holding on to a limb or the trunk.
It's amazing August that you trained these guys you are an amazing amazing man and arborist I wish I would have learned by somebody like you I learned to climb for about 4 5 months then all the sudden the foreman of my company took off and I was on my own with to ground guys and I pretty much to be honest I know it sounds crazy I learned a lot from RUclips and a lot from you as well and other tree guys now 17 years later I'm running my own crew and I'm doing good I just wish I would have had somebody like you to guide me at least for a couple months it would have been so much easier for me. simple things like a shed roof... I nicked my beautiful teuflberger climbing line on the sharp edge of my friends roof after four days of solo rigging a dead oak off of her roof. just that split second of contact with the old metal roof and I now had two rigging lines instead of a climbing line. It was cut deep enough that I had to cut it. It sure is nice the way you and the guys are kind to Evan. Right on.
Can I come climb for ya for a week or 2? I want the mentorship like you give. Been climbing 6 years and love seeing how far I've come and cant wait to see how far I will go. Awesome job helping evan break the barrier of fear. I once heard a saying if you dont do 1 thing a day that you fear or scares you that you aren't really living. Be safe guys! ❤

Just climbed my first tree and I felt just like this I've done lots of rock climbing so I trust the equipment but it's still really scary 🤣 to see you guys who have done it for years just run up the trees blows my mind

If you have a handsaw be very fucking deliberate with it. I swear those things can be more dangerous than a chain saw in the hands of a new climber.

Just climbed my first tree and I felt just like this I've done lots of rock climbing so I trust the equipment but it's still really scary 🤣 to see you guys who have done it for years just run up the trees blows my mind

It amazes me what people are comfortable climbing on. I'm fairly new and trusting my tie in points is my biggest issue.
