Hi VickyV greetings from Tasmania! Hope to get back to Canada (although 78 year old bones slowing down a little) loved all the train journeys I did over there. 🤗
I ❤ a shout out from you, August!! I get giddy....I mean You have one hell of a large group of 'Friends & Family' ! It's just amazing how you are obviously & genuinely in-tune with us! ❤❤thx August I love it!!
I am one of those retired people, and I absolutely LOVE your videos, August! I watch some every day, and I have learned a lot from them. I watch lots of YT videos on lots of different topics, and I love learning about how things really work. You are a great teacher and I please continue to make more videos for us!
lol I maybe an old man (77) , I find August inspiring enough to modify my fall harness into a sit harness. I check every week to see what tree adventures Damien & August are up to. They are both entertaining and educational.
Thank you for the video. Been watching for years but still in awe how big your trees get out there. Hope the crew / family and you are doing well. Take care - Be safe.
That saddle at the end reminded me of when I was a kid and watched The Lorax on TV. I remember you could only see his arms sticking out of this doorway or whatever it was and me being a kid, I got up and tried to look from the side to see the Lorax's face. You cannot imagine my disappointment when it didn't work!
Always really enjoy your thought process and it's good for you to always think about how things can be done better without getting stuck in your ways. Also, I really like seeing the creative saddles Sam is cranking out. When I order my 3.0 saddle, I will have to think that one through to make it "mine". Keep up the strong work August and Company!
I've been having a tough time finding applications for SRT, thanks for explaining why you would use SRT for tall trees where your line could become buried!
Enjoyed the video. Nice talk on setting your climb line up high vs setting as you go up. I do both. I love the ZigZag and MRS....but will climb up SRS (base tie) sometimes and switch to MRS at height. Nice limbing, topping and chunking.
As a UK climber I would say the majority of us climb the way you do in the sense of DRT and constantly changing anchor whilst spiking up the tree. I find this to be the most comfortable way to do it, you’ll get the SRT gurus saying otherwise. The trees in the UK don’t reach these kinda heights so SRT is usually not needed though. Enjoy watching your videos because the methodical and calm nature you tackle these jobs, which has helped me a lot as we have the same climbing style 👍🏼
Not nerdy at all. Experience shared. That apparently simple flip of your climb line looks incredibly easy. Taint! Years of muscle memory involved. How many times did the rope fall short? How many times did you overshoot and then fight it back only to throw again? It is cumulative force that takes energy. Just holding the saw at arm’s length is exhausting very quickly, every move you make is factored in to survive the job. Wish I could justify a 200T😮 😢. This one is a ripper😂. Great video Mr. M B.
The video's are always much better than the comments, but I always enjoy reading them too 😁 I like being RUclips friends and family 👍👍 that log couldn't have landed any flatter 👊 Great video and Thank you so much for taking all the extra time and effort ❤❤
I marvel that you can reach around the blind side of a tree and cut a perfect humboldt notch. I suppose after many thousands of cuts practice make perfect. Loved the nerdy part and the rest of it as well. Keep em coming, blessings Sir! I may head into the trees in Louisiana next week armed with knowledge I gleaned from the best, that's you August.
The other thing to be aware of with a SRT base tie is if a limb hits your climbing line attached to the base it can yank you up the tree. Just something to be aware of. I prefer to tie to the target tree, but Ive been around guys that run thier rope to other trees and make that a thing that can happen. Rock on guys and sir.
I’m happy to hear this information on the climb lines and how to set up the rigging system as I’ve had to climb a few trees and if I had any climbing gear that would help without having to free climbing a tree to set a rope to to help pull it over after the direction knotch and back cut is done
6:52 This is exactly what I was wondering as I practiced DRT on a leaner and swung around it twice having to start all over again. I said if I climbed to the top SRT to set up the cambium saver for DRT why wouldn't I use SRT to do everything? Isn't that what tree climber Harry does? Why use two climbing methods?
fabulous video as always , i love getting the notification you have a new video out , today is even better as i am able to enjoy it while having breakfast without the need to tare off to work , stay safe and thanks again
The insurance companies here in virginia have absolutely went of the deep end. 3 times the amount of insurance work coming in do to rediculous so called issues that have never been issues before. Also my own insurance almost doubled in 1 year, (never had a claim in 12 years). Its getting rediculous
One thing I don't like about SRT with base anchor is, constantly watching out for my line going down the tree. Or if the line is over any branches, when I remove that branch, it will introduce slack into the system. I do agree it's less physical work overall though. Pros/cons.
Greetings RUclips friends. Thanks for the video... Edit: I sent the comment at the beginning before watching the video. At the end, when you dropped the tree, I said to myself "another one bites the dust". Then shortly after that, you said it as well. I got a laugh out of it. RUclips friends minds syncretized.
Not nerdy at all there is a bunch of your fellow tree climbers watching. Never crossed my mind to use SRS for conifers. Got one tomorrow. I’m gonna give it a try. Nothing worse than being down to one groundie and he can’t keep up . Rope gets tangled and all messed up.
I agree, I found that if I can’t use my sling shot and fire a throw line up in the tree from the ground (usually because there is too much foilage) I will always climb to the top and set a line on the side of the tree I’m going to be cutting from and then repel down and start working. I have almost slipped out of my spike hold several times just using a flip line and it’s scary when you’re 50 feet up. That’s why ANSI recommends a choker around the tree so that can’t happen. Everyone cuts corners tho due to stubbornness, laziness or fatigue
Not too nerdy. Every day should be a school day and learn something new. I may not climb a 160 foot tree any time soon, but learning about it is interesting. It would scare the crap out of me to actually do it, so thank you for the show and tell so I don't have to 😄
Man I've been looking to do tree work here, weirdly had no idea we were in the same place. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? I currently work with trees about on the property which was in horrible shape when I got here, but other than here and a few of jobs seems like nobody is hiring anyone for tree service..
Hey August, got a fairly large pine that needs to be fell over in Chiloquin. I have an 066 and a skidsteer to pull on. My wife says no...so it's going down either way. Just felling, no cleanup...Would you be interested?
I have done some tree work as a younger fella and i have come to the realization from watching you that the guy i worked for as a kid didnt know squat about safety! He would have us just gaff up a tree no safety ropes only harnes a flip line an gaffs!
If it's base tied it's already shot over a high limb... otherwise you would have to have someone on the ground untie it for you so you might as well do a canopy anchor and advance it like August is doing 😊 What he's talking about is shooting one high up in the tree so you always have a nice high tie in point from the beginning 👍

Happy belated mother's Day. You have a awesome son.

A son to be proud of 🙏
Hi Mrs Hunicke 😁
Always great to see you in the comments, Happy Mother's day too you !!! ❤
I'm glad you explain the reasons for doing what you're doing. You've answered many of my stupid questions about how and why. Thanks August!
