Never ceases to amaze me how customers leave good, smashable stuff laying around and you're expected to do your job without breaking anything. I'd be an ideal customer. If I left something in the way, go ahead and smash it. My fault. Not yours.
That’s what I was thinking. It’s like they think, “gee, I have some tree guys coming tomorrow, let me put out Meemah’s irreplaceable antique lamp right next to the drop zone”
It's almost like, don't tell me I broke something until the end of the job because when I break stuff my heart sinks! I hate that feeling. It's all I think about the rest of the job. I just want to get out of the tree and fix it!
Great video! Addresses important nuances like your spikes sinking into the tree. You nicely demonstrated that there are times to re-evaluate and change plans. The comments you illicit are also good and helpful. THANKS.
"That sinking feeling when you hear something break....." I hate when that happens. 🤦🏻♂ MonkeyBeaver crew keeps on making the hard work look easy. Keep yourselves safe! 😃👍❤🌲 Randy
It was Really Awesome finally getting to meet you guy's at the TCI expo !!! ❤❤ I've never been to one so I really wanted to see all I could but Man.... I REALLY just wanted to hang out with you guy's the Whole time 😀 can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge with the Whole world ❤❤
Great video as usual, I always learn something. Yeah that feeling when something breaks, my past life in commercial HVAC when you close a large disconnect switch and something smokes.... or blows up, your heart sinks or jumps out of your chest. Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving Sir.
Hey August Hardcore Fan here 😊 I take long baths when a new long video gets posted.....thx for the 35 to 45 minute relaxation time! #LongVid #LongBaths
August very interesting about shushing the naysayers in your mind. It's hard to explain to non climbers but I totally know what you mean. Sometimes your body is feeling unsafe, but in your mind you know it's irrational. Yet it can happen the other way round too. So it's about deciphering both and coming to a safe conclusion to progress. And not pushing either too far beyond what you feel is safe. I think... hard to explain.. Keep up the good work, Love from Australia
I miss living in Grants Pass. That’s where I started climbing vertically endowed trees and August you invited me to your home the first day I was there. You’re a good dude even if you did give me shit for screwing up that bid on that giant pondo.
Enjoyed the video. Nice work on the dead tree. Tough when you're in to punky wood. I liked the rigging of the top from the other tree with branches acting as a break. Like the chunking brothers. Love the Husky 540i.
Many years ago I almost didn't get to go in the arch because I had a 2 inch long assisted (not auto) knife in my pocket. They didn't care about the 4 inch conventional knife in my pocket.
Absolutely epic gentleman! That chunk down race was rad! Jeff ran that top perfectly! Can’t wait to see what you carve Mr Hunicke. I did like Damian’s offensive approach; ripping chip at you lol. That was fair game! Wish I could send a pic of my 500i I’ve been doing quite a bit to her. You guys would appreciate it for sure. Stay safe gentlemen 👍 great work and vid!
A trend that started with a friend that would often break things..he trained his ground guys to not yell or say something broke, but to simply yell watermelon as to not grab homeowners attention until necessary..ever since even anything that gets close to being damage.. everyone yells watermelon
Made a promise to my wife that if there is a live tree to tie into I will, sometimes it's a bit more effort but it's always a more enjoyable climb having a safety net.
Great video, your videos lately have been really well done. I watched this one start to finish, and the one from Damian's view too. That was really something up there on that dead fir, I got a little adrenaline just watching it. You da man.
Imagine hearing the sound of the other chainsaw , you look down and they’re cutting the tree you’re up but they can’t hear your screams over the sound of the chainsaw .
Hallo there, amazing Job! I World live to know, hoffe much money you get for cutting one tree. I'm from germany, and the prices Arena lower i think... Thanks
Hey August, your thoughts at 22.00 were interesting stuff :) I think you would find a book called 'The Rock Warrior's Way' by Arno Ilgner very interesting....it is a book about the mental aspect of rock climbing but is applicable to anything that requires conciously going into 'risky' situations and dealing with the thoughts that arise from such things...i've been rock climbing for about 20 years and up trees for about a year now and the usefulness of that book has been priceless for both disciplines haha..anyway I think you would really enjoy the book and would like to hear your thoughts about it in the future sometime!
Hey August how are you? I hope I was well question for you. Your opinion, the older style zigzag is smaller than the newer's zigzag Do they both hold the same exact weight? Is that true? I believe it is I want to your opinion. Thank you so very much god bless my friend
Gravity is a bitch. It happens. It is all good if everyone goes home healthy at the end of the day. It was great talking with you at the TCIA in St Louis. Canadian Dave.
That's your heart breaking or your Spirit August,we all need that these days,it helps identify the true spirit in us ,I take your cut wood,(soda can? lol),I make signs, allows people to see the fingerprint of God(grain),as I see it,I always mention you to arborists here,in Georgia (they know y'all here)I always take time to watch,,, August? Rich Mullins wrote a song called (Those are the breaks), check it out ,he has a line ( not speed) in song says"it is the wood that makes the Carpenter", Always pray Angel Armies around your tree before you go up,,, God Bless you and your family,,,even Damien 🙏🪓🦫
you just gotta focus.plan as you go.we've got ash blight on ireland.and.they got up the centre.widow makers galore, but you assess as you climb.stay safe and lucky.maddog west.cork
That moment when you takevthe top, look down and see the cut. Then your heart falls out of your butt when you see what you're standing on... not maybe so much on this one August, but you know what I mean!
I thought your title referred to the tree sounding like breaking.... Anyhoo, thanks for an hour of informative entertainment. You guys rock! (Which does beat chainsaws).
Hey August, nice work. That tree was getting pretty spongy! I just finally got a Protos helmet, so I tried out making my first helmet cam footage the other day. It's definitely hard to remember to keep steady... Most of the footage was dizzying😂, but I was able to get some decent clips. I have to get used to talking to the camera next, seems strange still... Sad I missed the show in St. Louis. I'm sure it was great!
who made that little "16 mini" battery chainsaw? it looks like it has loads of power to it! thats somehting I might consider to work on some large limbs next spring and not have to deal with the weight and cord of my larger electric
I just did this like two weeks ago, sent a top chunk of cherry and didnt see a rotted piece . It hit the ground and blew right off into the siding.. i wanted to stop the job right their until it was fixed..
@AugustHunicke - Just a friendly observation - You sure are wearing your _"55",_ better than I am! Happy belated birthday! Best regards- 👍 [my avatar is different now, in-case you remember me, by name} 😄
Hey guys, I know you guys check your trees as you are spiking them up and you say if is too dead you won't climb it, just a quick comment here just keep in mind that with any dead tree we don't when/where it could fail (I'm in the same industry) but if we have a climbing line on another tree when there is another tree that could make the difference if the tree we are working on fails. If the the tree is too dead to climb, walking away could be the best thing to do. Greetings, GOD bless.
Sry to hear your spurs got wet August. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my home state. Im glad i got the chance to meet you and Joe at TCIA. And i look forward to meeting again the next time TCIA is in St.louis Missouri. Oh and next time August my first name will be spelled correctly. It is spelled Jeremy. Accidental mistake when my boss sighned me up for the trade show. Hopefully i will have passed the ISA certification test by the time we meet again!.
Commercial version is DMM Captain Hook. Has a little hole on the upper edge of the hook for various uses. Joe's hook looks a bit skinnier, but same concept.
Austin, I was wondering where you got your spikes at how long old they are? How old they are. It's all I wanted to ask. I like the way you you use them the way you go about your tree work and every way you do things. I'm old school. I got 10 years on you All right. You have a good day. Answer me back will you please. This is tree frog
How do we like the odds of that smaller (live) fir (hard lean, heavy branch weight) not dying and falling on the house/carport in future? And how do we like the rope rub on the larger live fir when roping out the dead fir top? (Im sure i would have done the same thing, unless the bid accomodated friction saver install)
Not much of a question I suppose... Just curious why that third smallish fir wasn't removed as well? To me it appears unattractive and potentially hazardous, leaning hard towards a structure and perhaps sharing the conditions which resulted in the death of the first two firs. One of the aspects I enjoy most about your videos is your vocalization of your thoughts and processes. Thanks for sharing any thoughts about this third fir tree 👍🏿
@@jasonkohler-zz7mw that is Cedar. I told him to remove it, but he didn’t want to until the day I showed up . .so I scheduled it for later because we had a different job to do that day.
Guess the homeowner could have hauled his outdoor tv indoors. Seeing the title I was more concerned there was going to be part of the tree give up underneath him. Not an outdoors piece of glass.
🤣
It is your job as a pro to inform them about the work and make sure that there is no stuff in the way.
If i left something out and it got broken, I would be like ah well shit that sucks i guess.
thats why we make the big bucks, that stuff is expected to be ok, accidents happen at all levels its how you react and respond.
It's almost like, don't tell me I broke something until the end of the job because when I break stuff my heart sinks! I hate that feeling. It's all I think about the rest of the job. I just want to get out of the tree and fix it!
Does that happen to you often? Lol
It’s happened to everyone at least once or twice
Zactly
Kinda ruins your day. Glad it's a rare occurrence. Seems like it's always a freak thing when it does happen too.
Yea I can def agree with that!
I always get a little laugh out of the reversed clips of the logs flying back up the tree.
That's when the new guys yells "OMG you fucked that thing up!!!" Right in front of the homeowner 😂
Rookie/dick move right there.
"Bro I knew that wasn't going to work" is another good thing to yell
Great video! Addresses important nuances like your spikes sinking into the tree. You nicely demonstrated that there are times to re-evaluate and change plans. The comments you illicit are also good and helpful. THANKS.

I'm glad that there are brave people out there. I can't even finish the video, just thinking about heights makes me sick.
Another simply awesome video! So much excellence of knowledge and spirit given! Much thanks!

That entire thing gave me anxiety.
August quote "I dont always cut firewood, but when I do I start at 100ft"😂
Awesomeness homie, Lawrence did a great job on his demonstration as well. Stay safe gentlemen.
I know I’m safe sitting here on my couch watching but I still get this odd lightness or butterfly feeling in my lower extremities . Crazy
So enjoyable to watch.
Smashes up patio, keeps rambling to RUclips 😂👍
"imagine the future where your the loser...feel it enough to NOT do the thing that creates the future that makes you a loser" nice quote
Im glad u little guys do the tree climbing so us BIG guys don't have to lol 🤣🤣 - im 6ft 2inches @ 300pounds 🤣🤣🤣
I do work with trees, always admire your calmness up on tree
Imagine hearing the sound of the other chainsaw , you look down and they’re cutting the tree you’re up but they can’t hear your screams over the sound of the chainsaw .
That takes balls of steel. No way would I have the kahonas to even climb 10% of that height.

Great job August...... that was much harder than it looked.
Never forget Murphy. Murphy's your friend, you learn a lot from Murphy.
great teamwork in this one!
If it’s not to tight a drop zone I cut and let it peel then finish the cut with the swing. 😅
Tree trimmer is here - Timmy did you clear the porch so nothing will break - The question people fail to ask
Lol😂 I'm a diehard. Time does go by to fast when watching a master pro at work! By the way, love the shirt.

I like the older one. Smaller and lighter.
Not only cutting firewood but stacking it from 100 ft up😮
When August says, "This is not a thing to go higher on"
You *KNOW* it's styrofoam.

Just out of curiosity, would it help to rig a tight tarp across a porch like that, post to post, to help stop limb shards from jumping in there?
Yes, but we usually lean plywood against areas like that

5:57 Ooooh, I feel so sorry for you
I feel everything you go through. As if I was side by side.
I’m green. I can not identify the rope by looking at it yet 😂
Is it left up to the crew on the ground to watch out for branches coming down? How do they not get clobbered? 😅

surprise you don't have roll up canvas or netting to help catch small missiles.
Looking forward to some Richard Mumford hitch hiker xf action
Nice work
Hello there could you show the Huck that Joe made looks interesting thanks you for the videos

Great vid. Jeffs a rope runa'

Breaking something always casts a dark cloud over a tree crews morale.
Anyone know if it’s true that big trees like redwoods, pine trees, etc. die from the top down?
The talking takes away from the doing! Thank you for your efforts!
Daaamn i had a limb hit a car like that and had to.get both doors painted hahah
Is Damian still running a fuel driven saw? I've gotten rather used to your electric saw.
So just wondering what caused you not to set up a crane for this job ?
@36:20 I love a good groundie.
I misunderstood the title; thought you heard the trunk crack under you..... THAT would suck!

Me too 😀
