  • I played FFX again a few months ago on the remastered version.
The game has a really tough final boss, in fact the only reasonable way to do it early is to use Trio 9999, you get 30 Wings of Discovery on one of the Chocobo minigames.
The way the fight works is the Yu Pagodas not only give health back to the boss, but when they regenerate they have the same HP plus the overkill damage.
I used a summon just to tank the sword attack during the second phase. I'm not sure why I even used Holy when one hit does 9999 damage anyway.
Maybe I'll record the optional bosses when I get there.

Pretty nifty strategy. I just finished the game for the first time myself the other day, and I had a lot of trouble surviving the second half at first. I read that the best way is to use the Wings of Discovery to get Trio of 9999 (which I see you doing here), but I didn't have any and didn't want to go through the trouble of getting them. So I basically built myself up really well at the beginning of the fight with Haste, Cheer, and Protect and then used an Alchemy weapon and Stamina Tonics for Rikku to keep everyone's HP up. Then I just put Slow on the Yu Pagodas and spammed Jecht with Holy and Flare until he was at around 20,000 HP before wiping him out with Bahamut's overdrive. It took about half an hour, but it did the job. Withstanding his toughest attacks was the biggest thing --- everything else came pretty easily once I figured out how to do that. I don't even think I had to deal with his strongest overdrive in my final attempt, since I saved both the talking trigger commands until the homestretch of the fight.
