Just gonna jot down some thoughts on the game and how it played out. Spoilers incoming. First off, 5 hunters. Huge mistake. Spore Shroom wouldn't have made a difference because healing isn't really an option vs. bosses. Descending Dark might have won me the game, but it would've took me ages to get in this seed, and it would've been dangerous if I got caught. The idea with 5 hunters was to allow them to spread out, roam, and get a bit more information on my route. In hindsight, I don't think that was necessary. 5 hunters could have been manageable with a slightly better loadout, but what made it basically impossible was *also* giving hunters a second extra mask, which was something that was accidentally left in from the TE mod settings that I copied over. That made for a weird ending to the video. But to be fair, the THK fight is also probably the least interesting part of the run. Either way, apologies for that. Some people might be a bit confused about the spoiler log aspect of this run. Well, there's a few problems that make a regular, non-spoiler log randomizer (probably) terrible for SVH. One, it can't really be balanced, as the runner may either collect a lot of useful PVP upgrades or none at all. Might be funny for viewers, but would make for a not great experience for players. Two, because it's random, the runner's route is totally unpredictable, but one of the main appeals of SVH is hunters trying to predict where the runner will go next. Third, hunters have no way of knowing which item locations the runner has already been to, so they have no idea when they shouldn't protect something. So a regular randomizer is more or less a full-map hide and seek with minimal additional strategy. Hunters need access to the spoiler log, and if they have it, then not giving it to the runner too is just the same as this but with a lot more dead time between pickups. I thought that ItemSync could be a solution, but syncing all the same upgrades tends to be Hunter favored, making the late game extremely difficult. Hence, I decided we should use spoiler logs. We ended up doing a lot of planning in terms of routing, which was cool. Blossom made a 10-page doc on the route which was shown shortly at the end. But we tried an additional run with a more complicated seed and it broke my brain. Benchwarping is unfortunately sometimes required, which is not great for the game. Stags too. Overall, the concept is probably more fun to plan out than it is to actually play. Another major issue is that simple seeds like this are easy to communicate to viewers, but a complex seed definitely wouldn't be. Even in this seed explanation, I glossed over a lot of details. So... not sure if I'll revisit this concept or not. But it was heavily requested and so I wanted to see if it could work at least, and we had fun with it either way.
hope it's ok to comment and share my thoughts this early but i think spore shroom was a good play!!! with three grubs at spore shroom tablets it was worth if you could sneak it in. i wasn't anticipating it because i'm coming at it from a rando racing perspective and committing to colo2 is a huge timesink, but in hindsight that isn't really a bad thing in svh where you have all the time in the world as long as you don't get caught. also i feel it's worth mentioning that spoiler races are fairly common in the hk rando racing scene! usually we get 5-10 minutes to plan it out (instead of the several hours we had here), so oat and i are both very experienced with glancing at the spoiler log and immediately spotting the progression chain. it wasn't an insane stretch to add multiplayer into the mix. it ended up playing out like a weird hand/brain spoiler rando to any% ending where we were tasked with thinking from fire's perspective rather than planning out what we wanted to do, and having to also factor in the hunting aspect into our decisions was a ton of fun. (obviously can't speak for everyone on how fun it was but i really hope it's a nice watch for everyone!!! yippee rando yippee yippee yippe yippee)
@@Blomsom Of course it's okay to comment! The main reason I went for Spore Shroom was because my route initially included getting Shape of Unn and Spore Shroom for a full heal build for THK, but I got chased out of RG too fast to get Shape of Unn from Seer. After RG, I tried to sneak Spore Shroom, got spooked by the fact that hunters were waiting outside the trial and ran off. In hindsight, I'm not sure I would have been able to get off any heals during the THK fight though even with the build, given the sheer amount of chaos. But it does make a lot of sense for the grubs, that's true. It's crazy to me that rando players can read the spoiler log for just 5-10 minutes and then immediately race. I know it's a matter of experience and knowing what to look for, but it's really impressive that y'all are able to do that.
@@fireb0rn oh interesting, that wasn't on my radar at all. case in point about us focusing more on progression than upgrades and damage lol. in our minds you'd only go out of your way for something if it's getting you progression or more grubs, since from a racing perspective it's timeloss otherwise. but here the main objective isn't to be faster than us at finishing the seed, it's just to not die in the process, so the spore shroom shape of unn synergy ends up pretty useful. you absolutely played the mind games with us lol, same thing with the shade cloak pickup, i wasted a ton of time trying to figure out not if, but when you were going to make an abyss trip for the grubs there, and then you never even stepped foot in basin. you baited me so hard so many times hehe well played!!! Indeed, but then it isn't really "randomised" as far as the player is concerned. Perhaps this genre of run, where the hunter has had advance look of locations to plan, needs to be given it's own name, and I cast my vote for "re-seeded" run.
The one part that feels unreasonably unbalanced is the THK fight, where all hunters know exactly where you have to be and can prevent you from healing or just properly fighting the boss. 5v1 is hard enough; trying to kill a boss in the middle of that is absurd unless you get a huge list of upgrades first, which can drag out a match and introduce more problems. Maybe have the end goal of the match not be a singular objective, but something cumulative, like getting X Grubs or enough Essence?
Agreed. Thought about the same thing. Technically Hunters can just ignore fire for 100% of the run and wait for him at Black Egg Temple. They have very low chance to kill him outside, but that chance drastically raises if they know he's heading here. If it was 3-4 people, it wouldn't be that bad. But with 5 hunters at the same place AND The Hollow Knight. Fire can't heal there practically and they can just keep spamming slashes.
@@0Jenna7 Thought about the same thing. But it would be hard to actually do. What would be the rules. How many of them can be at the fight? Where do they respawn? @@Netsuki no, no, once fire inside they can all be inside. No worries there. The idea is to "force" them to hunt fire in the late game rather than wait inside thk for fire. It's more that they don't sit still and wait inside thk because he has to get there.
Thanks for inviting me to the first ever SvH rando (and for letting me edit it)! It was a really fun time, and I expect that many parts of it will evolve and become more balanced over time. And shoutouts to Blossom for planning the potential routes so thoroughly! I will always remember the 10-page planning doc lmao
For my first time joining SvH, it went about as well as expected. I'm pretty sure I made zero contribution for the first half, but it was a blast anyway. Thanks for having me! And we'll let chat decide who ACTUALLY got the kill 😉
I think I’ve said this before but I love seeing BlueQuills’ thumbnails on these videos, it’s always a joy to see an artist I like working with a youtuber I also like lol
@@myweirdsecondchannelwithap9070 I don't think so. He may want to focus on speedrunning, maybe get a few early world records while the iron is hot. Or he might want to just learn the games ins and outs before anything. But most importantly, go to the description and read the mod list. Bare minimum he has to wait for the multiplayer mod, but he'll probably want a few QOL mods as well.
the visual aid at the beginning explaining possible routes was really helpful! and holy shit the blossom google doc at the end, really cool to see how much planning went into this :D i really enjoyed this version with the randomizer but locations already known
I definitely enjoyed this one more than the power ones. Likely mainly because of the new route. I can see the problem with finding a seed, benchwarp, stags, and those things, but also having a randomizer going into the Abyss or the Kingdom's Edge would be fun to see since those areas are basically never visited in SVH. Would be nice if it was possible to hand-place items. I do see the appeal of having it not be completely randomized, but this video was a lot of fun to watch!
Hey Fire! Just wanted to let you know that the mod list for the Hunt still says that no one can use stags :) Might confuse a new watcher, so I thought I should post something about it. Have a good day!
The planning that went into this run🤯!!!! Kudos to all the players, I was v impressed by the progression/ map knowledge of the hunters! I did notice that it was quite difficult to shake the Hunters at Black Egg-- even with so many abilities-- probably due to the accident mask, so I totally understand what Fire explained in the comments 🤔 Either way, amazing to watch! I love not knowing how its going to end 🙏🏾
@@fireb0rn I don't even think the ending was awkward or anything, as a viewer, I loved the ending! 🫣 But reflecting on the player aspect, Im sure it was quite challenging to fight 5v1, 6 masks to 25? + possibility of HK dmg? Lol, that's tuff. You did your thing as always ✨
This was so great! I think the spoiler log was a good idea, when I saw the title I was thinking that it couldn’t possibly be balanced but with both teams knowing the route it was pretty close! I wonder if maybe limiting the number of hunters that are allowed in the black egg at once would help the endgame, because I think you do need more hunters for the over world given the number of possible routes.
I say more hunters in the world total but with some restrictions eg(total of 7 hunters but only 3 can be in the same area (greenpath etc) at the same time) and black egg would a tag team system. New hunters can enter every minute but only if there are less than 3 hunters already there
i love the new idea, it takes way more strategizing which makes it a much more fascinating experience. havent finished watching yet, so im exited to see the result!!
I enjoyed this one a lot! I can see the rando aspect lending itself really well to SVH by keeping things fresh and different each run-which helps with the problem you mentioned in a previous SVH video that it was starting to feel like each run was becoming the same. I for one wouldn't mind seeing runs with more complex seeds, where viewers who were interested in strategy could read a summary of the seed in the description while the rest could just enjoy the show. Either way, great video, and I hope you revisit this particular flavor of SVH some time!
Really liked this version of SvH ! I love playing HK randomizer runs so that was perfect. Having you explaining your route at the start of the video really helped following the video, also using the spoiler logs to plan the route makes perfect sense, I find it really interesting ^^ Maybe doing a speedrun race on randomized seeds with spoiler logs could be interesting ? Maybe with limited prep time to see how every runner plans out their route and to see some mistakes ? Idk if that's possible but I'd love to see something similar. Anyway, can't wait to see your next video 😄
Ngl this was very cool video idea, the fact that it’s randomized and everyone knows where everything is even though it’s randomized is what makes it good (I know that’s the whole point lmao) but I’d love to see more of this :D
I found this very fresh and entertaining. All kinds of rooms that normally don't get traversed became paths to cross between the randomized objectives. It's entertaining to see new movement/rooms/strats (early Monarch Wings definitely added to this a lot as well). The planning required for the spoiler log routing definitely sounds like a heavy tax on this game-mode. I would be interested in watching a SvH rando run where we only (or mostly) see your perspective and which we either hear your live voice, or a voiceover you make after. Because the route is so wildly different, your perspective is interesting again (Whereas your perspective in normal SvH is obviously repetitive since the route stays similar).
Came back to hk like 2 days ago and i was so lucky to remember this channel. I used to love watching these speedrunner vs hunters videos and im so glad you still do them man 🫡
This was amazing! I would love to see another rando vesselhunt. Though, five hunters in THK is so hard! It could be better with a timer ruleset? Like how in past vesselhunts, you killed 1-2 hunters for every death for you, then kind of wore them down enough to get a clear shot at the hollow knight. That might give you better chances without needing an absurd amount of upgrades. Still, you've probably thought of this! Really the grub rando of our hearts, though. Shoutout to black egg grub. Really the mvp.
Just started watching the video. LOVED the map/pathway discussion at the beginning. Thanks Fire! Can't wait for more hunter videos (both new formats and old formats, they're all great!)!
Idea: speedrunner vs hunters but I have voicelines, basically you would get each hunter to record one voiceline each of your choosing (for example: you get someone to say: "That's me!") Then when you're running away you could play those voicelines using a soundboard or something to confuse them
Having binged all the SvH's just now, this was a very pleasant surprise to see! It's without a doubt the best one so far and I hope you do more randomizer SvH's!
Absolutely love to see you trying new things with each run, this randomizer was so exciting to watch because of all the additional movements like monarch wings for the pvp. Keep it up :D Your videos are amazing
As a person who has done randomized runs myself i can say that there is also the issue of finding seeds that won't be overly hard to do or dang near impossible due to the extreme skill required. And sure you can map it out, but i imagine that makes it even more of a demotivating aspect if the run is so vast that it takes hours just to get the dreamers to beat THK.
5 Hunters might be too much, but considering this rando type chase, there is not a single possible path so even 20 may not be enough to find you at a given moment. With that being said, having a hunter have to check spoiler and strategize while also playing as a hunter definitely impacts their ability to do either one of the tasks. I would propose having a team of 4 hunters and 1 or 2 rando experts to strategize with open spoilers at all times. They would be able to guide the hunters around, possibly watching their 4 screenshares
the trick Fire cut out of the video at 21:07 is one that gets questions in the Discord server for the Archipelago HK Randomizer constantly. this is because it's considered possible with only wings + cdash and no skips enabled, despite the fact that it requires some really quite tricky platforming and is something that would never even be considered in vanilla. the logic is exactly the same as the default rando4 logic, it's just that AP has no custom logic injector and a lot more reasons to clean out your entire game with minimal items, which is probably why it shows up so much more often. for the curious, the very edge of the elevator has a small ledge you can stand on, so if you're cool enough you can interrupt your cdash midway through and double jump onto that ledge, before double jumping over the elevator to the lever.
Bro, I can't escape it. My mind likes to make connections between things, so every time I lose, I associate the game with whatever I was thinking about. It's exponential. Now every time I watch a SvH video, I'm gonna lose. Make it stop 😭
I've been addicted to playing randos lately so this comes at a perfect time. I really like this concept, but agree 5 hunters was a lot. I think the more hunters can track the players progression the less hunters there needs to be, otherwise it just ends up being a 1v4/1v5 etc. at the end because the only place left to wait as a hunter is THK. I think these play out best when the hunters aren't sure how many dreamers are collected, and are forced to split, but obviously that can't / doesn't happen the majority of the time. As always this was great to watch, super cool to see this concept played out! Also thought Blossom and Oatmille were great additions to the hunter team! The doc was super interesting and I liked hearing their strats throughout :)
You know I think just making it to THK in and of itself is a victory versus 5 hunters. Like someone else said, boss fights plus five hunters is rough to say the least. The most interesting part of these videos is almost never the end, it's usually the interactions that happens while you set up for the end game. Although this was probably the best SVH, just because of the major formula change. I think more of these spoiler log rando hunts would be really cool, especially because they allow entirely different routing. Though I'd say set a limit on how hard something could be, like if you had to get a dreamer at the end of White Palace(? I think that's the right area with all the tight platforming), as the time to set up for something like that would take a while.
Will be honest I love this and when I was sitting back I was listening to the music and such and swore I heard Kether 3 or something from LOR. It caught me so off gaurd lol. Keep it up you're great at Hollow Knight and this content! Love your vids!
First of all, this was a really exciting twist on SVH and I loved the new pathing it involved, although I can imagine more complicated seeds would be... too much? A path similar in complexity to the standard HK path is all that SVH really needs to be interesting, you can only watch so many fights over Uumuu and Watch Knights before it gets a little repetitive. Also seeing Colo make an appearance was really exciting. Definitely a breath of fresh air on the concept, and can't wait for the next one! I really think it would have been possible without that extra mask for the Hunters. There was quite a few times I heard the Hunters say "I have one mask, imma go heal" after the Shade Soul upgrade which meant they were playing more aggressive because they had it. Also, it felt like they had too much health in the start where chases kinda extended a VERY long time, I'm not sure if it was because you picked up your first movement upgrade early that they started with more masks, but it felt like they had 4 or 5 HP in every chase. With 5 hunters, that means you may have to go through 20+ masks before you lost them, meaning losing the hunters was more on them making mistakes than you playing well (Essentially, PvP was out of the question). I feel like when you're running with 5+ Hunters, they need to have their health nerfed to open up options, otherwise every chase boils down to your out maneuvering them. Also, the "No Lifelines till 2 Movement Upgrades" doesn't feel like it fits in randomizer, since important upgrades can be in a pretty wide area, and very infrequently be stuck behind chokepoints, i.e. Hornet, Gruz Mother, Watch Knights, False Knight, etc. which kinda showed in this randomizer. You were able to go ~50% of it without picking up a second movement upgrade, and they got really lucky they found you at all in City with you picking up Monarch Wings essentially before the chase even began. Maybe having some form of reduced Lifeline at the start (i.e. Something that tells them the zone you're in) would be a nice compromise, rather than a precise location. The Map is super broken, to the point where it can completely invalidate your plans (i.e. Spore Shroom) if they check it at the right moment which meant that colo ended up being an unnecessary risk.
While not a "true rando" is the sense, this was entertaining and a nice change from the regular route. The little intro with the intended route made it easier to follow the video and understand/realize when you had to deviate from it. Hope you'll revisit the format, but if you don't it was still fun to watch this experiment on the series.
"If Fire is a normie he just rushes this" ❌ "Only an insane person would do colo2 for spore shroom right" ✔ Well, fire didn't get to do colo2 but he certainly tried. Tho I do love how he semi-bamboozled them by trying to go backwards through Baldur.
Wow, im always super impressed at how good you are at movement. So many times they were on top of you but you basically have rhe movement down perfectly. Really impressive stuff
I just thought of a cool hollow knight challenge that requires no mods! (Unless the online mod is easier) Basically, go to the hall of gods and take turns to beat as many bosses as possible with one charm build. Once you die, you keep your progress, and another player gets to attempt to go as far as possible before they die. Once it's your turn again, you get to change your charms (or not if you want more of a challenge) and start again from the boss you lost to. Keep going until one person beats every single boss in the hall of gods and is declared the winner! I hope you like my suggestion!
First off, love this new wrinkle in the Speed Runner vs hunters series. Biggest and best thing I felt about watching this run was wings! It never shows up in the normal any% route, and your comments in the True Ending run being untenable for this series are well taken. They added a very nice wrinkle to the normal PvP combat and escaping with that extra nuance to player movement. It really highlighted the maneuverability and skill of all players involved. I'm curious about the rando seed, did you vet through seed options before deciding that this was a solid one for both sides to have a fair shake/not take forever? As for the spoiler log aspect, I think that's absolutely the correct choice rather than everyone going into a blind rando and just roaming at random. Setting traps and having the predictions for how the Speed Runner will route vs trying to alternate around and confuse them is a very important part of the series. Now negatives. As you've already mentioned, THK fight was everything but impossible. Maybe with a lot of powerup roaming which makes for a less fun experience for the players, editor, and viewers. Spore Shroom/DD spam shouldn't be a requirement for the SR to win. I think it was perfectly good to have them with 5 hunters for the general world roaming, and only .01% of the run is ruined with THK. One thing I think might be done here is reducing the Hunters Masks to a set amount once the Speedrunner has all the Dreamers, and maybe allowing instant respawn as a sort of balance. Just spitballing. Otherwise, love the run and this series. GG.
This was absolutely a blast to watch and I would love to watch another one. A banger as always Fire keep up the good work and thanks for the cool video!

Thanks for inviting me to the first ever SvH rando (and for letting me edit it)! It was a really fun time, and I expect that many parts of it will evolve and become more balanced over time.
The hive is also basically never visited

The planning that went into this run🤯!!!! Kudos to all the players, I was v impressed by the progression/ map knowledge of the hunters! I did notice that it was quite difficult to shake the Hunters at Black Egg-- even with so many abilities-- probably due to the accident mask, so I totally understand what Fire explained in the comments 🤔 Either way, amazing to watch! I love not knowing how its going to end 🙏🏾
Thank you kinder! Glad you enjoyed it despite the awkward ending, haha.
New hunters can enter every minute but only if there are less than 3 hunters already there
o god I've been expecting this for so long!!!my favourite hunter series and my favorite randomizer mod!!!love this so much❤️

Having you explaining your route at the start of the video really helped following the video, also using the spoiler logs to plan the route makes perfect sense, I find it really interesting ^^
Maybe doing a speedrun race on randomized seeds with spoiler logs could be interesting ?

Idea: speedrunner vs hunters but I have voicelines, basically you would get each hunter to record one voiceline each of your choosing (for example: you get someone to say: "That's me!") Then when you're running away you could play those voicelines using a soundboard or something to confuse them
My favourite bit was when the hunters just gave up and went "hit him till he dies"
They would be able to guide the hunters around, possibly watching their 4 screenshares
omghi shadu
the trick Fire cut out of the video at 21:07 is one that gets questions in the Discord server for the Archipelago HK Randomizer constantly. this is because it's considered possible with only wings + cdash and no skips enabled, despite the fact that it requires some really quite tricky platforming and is something that would never even be considered in vanilla. the logic is exactly the same as the default rando4 logic, it's just that AP has no custom logic injector and a lot more reasons to clean out your entire game with minimal items, which is probably why it shows up so much more often. for the curious, the very edge of the elevator has a small ledge you can stand on, so if you're cool enough you can interrupt your cdash midway through and double jump onto that ledge, before double jumping over the elevator to the lever.

This is so awesome. I was legit thinking what is gonna be next in this series, oh what if he did a rando that would be crazy and lo and behold.
Great as always! Love how creative this idea forced the players to be. Would love to see similar ideas in future- meme categories perhaps?
You really pushed your limits here, but 5v1 seems truly impossible.
Skurry next as a hunter? This was a fire video (no pun intended) and I hope to see a sequel!
This is a really cool progression of the series. I would love to see more of this.
I like this format, only so many wierd plays and detours one can take on any% route, adds some variance and I hope to see more in the future :)
I've been wanting to see something like this for a while. Thanks for making this :)
I think that's the right area with all the tight platforming), as the time to set up for something like that would take a while.
amazing video as always fire. absolutely loved it :D

38:54 pretty good song choice if I dont say so myself ;)
Ultrakill mentionned???
"If Fire is a normie he just rushes this" ❌
"Only an insane person would do colo2 for spore shroom right" ✔
Well, fire didn't get to do colo2 but he certainly tried. Tho I do love how he semi-bamboozled them by trying to go backwards through Baldur.

I just thought of a cool hollow knight challenge that requires no mods! (Unless the online mod is easier)
Basically, go to the hall of gods and take turns to beat as many bosses as possible with one charm build.
GG.
