- Video Recorded on June 21, 2023: First thing's first, I want to give a huge thanks to the museum staff for letting me ride and film this massive freight elevator! In case you don't know, this elevator is located in the newer building of this entire museum. Remember the Otis GAL freight elevator I filmed last year in the original wing? As I promised, I finally get to see this elevator here!!!!! :D Last time I was here, this part of the building was closed for renovations. By the way, Gillespie is a name I have never heard of. I don't even know if it's really even a real name. Upon research, Gillespie Corporation does custom elevator installs or something. Also, look at the large single speed bi-parting hoistway door downstairs. You can see I got a GREAT view of it both inside and outside of the elevator cab. There's another elevator that serves the kitchen right across from this freight elevator I'm on which I indeed did film. Anyway, this is one of the BEST freight elevators I have never ridden! Especially with that big single speed vertical door in the basement like what you see in a garage. Installed in 2009.

I designed that elevator in 2009. Gillespie designs and builds custom elevators for all the elevator contractors in the US and abroad, including Otis Elevator. This elevator is 10'-4"x19'-10", 20,000 lbs, 16'-0" travel, with a very shallow 12" deep pit. It is a twin jack holeless hydro with four guide rails, and utilizes our shallow pit safety system to provide bottom car clearance and refuge space per code.
That is cool! Do you still work on elevators up to this day? I won’t be back in North Carolina until this summer.
Interesting. I also saw a Gillespie passenger elevator at the waterpark at American Dream
This is really amazing! Especially for one that is 20K pounds
Sounds like a Chewbacca Motor!!
Gillespie, that's strange. Records say Otis, & the passenger car behind this 1's definitely Otis. I guess it's a Gillespie installed by Otis?
Or Gillespie maintains it
Could be a mod
It's not. This part of the building was built in 2009.
Is this the first Gillespie freight to ever have been filmed
I think so? I’ve never actually heard of that brand before.
You pronounced it wrong: it’s jill-es-pee.
Thanks for the actual correction. I totally had no idea how this was pronounced at all.
