Thank you. I was stuck when my manual failed to mention turning the cam 180 degrees after insertion. I was sure it was wrong not to but your video confirmed it. Regards Richard.
+Just_A_ Girl_1996 (Des) Thanks! I am glad the lack of talking didn't put you off...I can't stand videos where they yammer on and on and don't just show me how to do it! :)
I would of used new gaskets cause the new barrel might be out abit and used motor oil on the bore and piston and rings and a rag under the piston when placing the cerclips just incase the drop into the case I learnt that the hard way from yrs of racing sidecars now turn a CT125 into a custom cafe racer love the vid keep them coming and keep riding ....
Tim, my timing chain broke. While setting cam sprocket to TDC there is slack between cam lobes, should I rotate CCW and stop at TDC for correct alignment? Thanks for the help
I have a 75 XL125 that has a knock and I just can not seem to find it, replaced the cam chain since I could see where it was rubbing on the case thinking that was it, but it is still knocking...more of a rattle really. Same engine with the one-piece head.
What gets me is it sounds like the rattle is slower than the engine runs...all parts are moving faster than the rattle, or it just comes and goes enough to seem that way. Very good tutorial here btw, it saved me when I wasn't confident about putting the cam back in correctly...I had the head off to check the piston/cylinder and there was no scoring. Really hard to do much with the valves with this one piece head.
Could it be a loose baffle in your muffler? I know it sounds silly to think that, but I had the same "rattle" and it resonated all over the engine, and until I discovered the loose baffle, I was the one who was BAFFLED! lol Hope you found it, as this is a three month old comment. Cheers! Zip~
You are absolutely right. There is an o ring and a Base/Cylinder gasket that fits at the base of the cylinder. I put them on the base of the cylinder but forgot to show it. Good call!
There is a bad cut in the video. An important part is when assembly the piston with rings inside the cylinder when we are alone withou help of someone to hold the cylinder. I think it is a good idea to explain better that part. Thank you.
Hi Rui, After you attach the piston to the connecting rod, you simply feed the piston into the bottom of the cylinder. the bottom of the cylinder is entrance is tapered, so as you push the piston it the rings compress and the piston slides in. If the rings do not compress you can you your fingers to compress them as you push the piston into the cylinder. adding a little oil at the cylinder entrance helps too. if you have any other questions let me know.
The video at 11:00 is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I’m currently putting together a xl125 that was given to me(disassembled) but there is no “peg/key” on shaft to hold the timing advance in place. So I’m guessing it’s a replaceable item?? But thanks so much!!
@@kaamielahblaauw7598 I could never find one or even a part number for it. However, I was able to rob one from a different Honda cam. That said, I still haven’t finished putting bike together. Lol.
could you tell me, why does my motorcycle strength wore out i put it on gear and it doesn't move an inch. its a SAE 100cc i hope you could help me. i love your video and downloaded it. and subscribed.
There could be a few reasons you have no power/no torque...worn rings, wrong carb settings, stuck clutch, brakes too tight. Could you be more specific...give me more detail?
Does anyone know how to mount the cam chain on a zs169fmm machine, the piston is 69mm. I have a chain of 102 links and 104 links. 102 links are too short and 104 too long, regardless of the tension in which phase it was. on the 102 link, it needs a little bit to sit, but I'm afraid that it would be too tight and could damage the camshaft bearing. by the way, I don't know if it is the original cylinder on the machine, because I read that the piston should be 65.5 mm.
Hello, nice video with good mechanics explanation, but tell me,are you sure the oil filter is correctly in position? My HONDA ,I bought new, and first time I remove the filter for cleaning, filter net was in oposite position, what you think?motor model HONDA OHC-II 125 cc

le pusiste el filtro de aceite alrevez y en el momento de la chispa debe dejar de dar a masa el platino , entonces no debería estar haciendo ruido el tester
No, if it's out 180 degrees it will barf gas into the air filter. Take a round file to the sprocket holes left side (sorry) and file enough to turn it a little then lock it down. You'll be surprised how much more torque it has.
Thats what i was just thinking. Is that how ir should be. Real question from guy who wants to start restoring a motorcycle but will be learning on the fly.
Dumb question: I have a matched piston and ring kit. I forgot to check the gap. Should I disassemble or just cross my fingers. How many times has a matched set been out of tolerance?? Not many I'll bet.

i am missing my oil screen, spring and cap. i also think that you installed it incorrectly. i think the screen gasket goes inside seated to the crankcase allowing the oil to enter inside and come out of the screen to enter the other hole.
Thanks for the video, my cam chain is as loose as it can be and it is not allowing me to put the gear on the lip of the cam to install the bolts. I have the chain on the gear, just cant get enough slack to get it anout 1/2 inch so I can bolt on. Again, my tensioner is basically all the way out. Any idea?
Thanks for this Tim - I just purchased a bore kit to from a Honda TL to for my 156fmi OHC engine, but it appears that the piston is catching the valves or something is knocking, preventing it doing a complete revolution. I have tried extra gaskets but that doesn't help? The chain tentioner slide makes it difficult to even put the cam chain around the cog, as it's too tight with the additional gasket. Do I even need this one? I have an auto tension. Any ideas? Thanks
I would start from the very beginning of your project and make sure you have the correct parts and things setup properly. I originally bought the wrong piston and it was hitting the rim of the head. It's hard for me to say what the problem is, but when I run into problems I second guess everything I'v done and go over everything , sometimes spending days doing this. Good luck! You will figure it out!
I have a 2001 xr200r and the top end gasket set I bought has no valve cover gasket nor can I find one, what do I do about that? also is there any bearing around where the cam shaft seats into the head?

Great video. love that you are teaching people, how to do this. In the back of a Pickup truck.. Thumps up!
Thanks for this video,it will help me in my class to show my students how to install these components and timing the motorcycle engine...
Best video i've seen for setting my '78 XL125 timing. Very similar except for the timings marks on the magneto

5:11 ma la guarnizione alla base del cilindro? The gasket?
The filter was returned incorrectly. The o-ring or rubber part goes in first, and pressed by the spring. The spring is pressed by the cover.
Check out the diagram in the service manual www.greenroadfarm.com/trials-125/proper-sequence.jpg

You should clock the rings for minimum blow by compression loss.
