      Syn just has the ability to give a guitar a voice which is probably one of the most godly things you can do on a guitar. He can make the guitar cry like in this song AND he can make the guitar scream like in Critical Acclaim. Its like he is making LOVE to his guitar sometimes its insane! when a guitar solo is so emotive and feeling heavy to the point it chokes you up. thats how you know he is NEXT LEVEL at guitar :)

    Some of their other songs have a slight Country vibe, but for their more typical style, maybe check out Beast and the Harlot and/or Bat Country- Seize the Day is another great one, the first one that made me fall in love with this band. A7x probably one of the most underrated bands around, their style is unique and the fact that musically they’re incredibly talented makes for great music. They’ve evolved through the years too, some of their older stuff is very heavy but they keep trying new things which is brilliant. The Rev left a huge hole in the band but they continued with his family’s blessing. Love them 👌

    Hey Maggie, I don't know if you noticed it or not, but if you looked closely at the fretboard on Synister's guitar, you'd have seen the it had "REV" on the fretboard, whereas it'd normally have "SYN" written on there, in addition, the bassist is wearing a guitar strap that reads "foREVer" (note that REV is in Capitol letters) which further drives the point home that this song is a tribute to their original drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan

    I used to hear them like ten years ago as a dumb teenager didn't know the meaning of the song.
    But couple years ago, when i try to listen them as my nostalgic song and capture their lyrics it really hits me, with the way this band introduce their song from the intro till the end and the emotion i get was unreal.
    I'm not a maniac but when it comes to "seize the day" And "M.I.A" It hits too deep.

    I absolutely love that you reacted to this song first, his voice comes through so perfectly here. I would love it if you reacted to either "Afterlife" or "Critical Acclaim" by them. Both are more their usual style and you can actually hear The Rev singing on them (though his vocal part is cut out of the Afterlife music video so I would recommend the lyric video or Live at LCB for that one). The Rev had such a unique voice and would sing while drumming live.

    fun fact:
    the rev (the drummer) has an incurable heart condition (enlarged heart) and was told that he might live until 30. he actually wrote a song called "fiction" 3 days before he passed away, in the lyrics he wrote "promise me you'll never feel afraid" like a message for the rest of the band. and in this song "so far away", they said "sleep tight, i'm not afraid" in respond to the lyrics the rev wrote for them, their way of saying "its okay brother, rest in peace, we promise we're not going to feel afraid". 😭

    “your pain is gone, your hands untied.” is so powerful since their drummer had an addiction to drugs and alcohol and mixing that with an enlarged heart, prescription drugs got him dying far too early. The more of the story you learn the harder this video is to watch.
    One thing I learned from a interview video, the black leather jacket the guitarist is wearing is actually the revs jacket. He gave it to the guitarist on the last night they saw each other before he died. Hense why he wore it in the video. You can really see the emotion in all the bands face.

    • @HotActionKop
      @HotActionKop Год назад

      The fact that he gave his jacket away to Syn on the night that he died and his stomach was awash with his heart meds, opiates, diazepam and hard liquor. I mean he'd been depressed for years and wasn't expected to live a long life due to his heart condition, then giving away his jacket that night, I'm not a conspiracy guy but it was all a bit strange and heartbreaking to be quite blunt.

    Dang!! reminds me of Jimmy, he was the goofy guy of the band, making a lot of funny stuff, he did have a bad heart condition, and yes thats why he died, besides he was a multi talented drummer, with hes own drum style.
    The video shows back when they was teens, running around in Iron maiden T.shirts, and stealing beer from a liquid store, stuff like that..
    A7X got a lot of diffrent sounding songs, they do have most that is a bit heavier, but yeah you could include country on that list of style to, at same time its also a band where you instantly know its them, when you hear a song..

  • @SigTheSauceMan
    @SigTheSauceMan 2 года назад +2

    I recommend reacting to their song "Fiction." It was the drummer's final song before his death. He turned it in to the band only a few days before his death (Jimmy was Avenged Sevenfold's musical core and majority songwriter/composer, he basically wrote the entire "White Album" on his own). Many fans believe "Fiction" to be a kind of suicide note or at the very least a goodbye letter (Jimmy was born with an enlarged heart that would have prevented him from living past his early-30's), and the song is entirely sung by him, with M. Shadows' vocals layered over it (in contrast to the rest of the album, where Jimmy's vocals were scarce and always in the background).
    If you want a more lighthearted one, I recommend their song "A Little Piece of Heaven." Jimmy wrote it in ONE NIGHT while absolutely drunk off his ass and it's great.
    Also his last performance was at Sonisphere 2009. There's a video of them playing "Almost Easy" out there.
    Oh, and if you want PURE Jimmy, Avenged Sevenfold uploaded a behind-the-scenes video of the making of "Almost Easy" which included a full, uninterrupted take of Jimmy recording the drum track in ONE TAKE in the studio.

    M Shadows has an absolutely insane voice, but an interesting thing about this song is that he's holding back. When you listen to other ones like nightmare, shepherd of fire, or hail to the king, and then listen to this, you'll be able to hear that he's really trying to control, almost smother, the power in his voice, which is where the country sound you're hearing is coming from. Ordinarily, his voice definitely doesn't have any of that.
    Same with the lead guitarist. Synyster gates (who originally wrote this song for his deceased grandfather right before their drummer also died) usually favors and is well known for his very complex and crazy riffs. Because of this song's atmosphere though, this is not a song to go all out on. The other guitarist Zacky Vengeance never really uses an acoustic either, but he does here.

    Talking about mixing musical styles. Metal musicians are some of the most likely to branch out to different styles for inspiration. You'll find many the look to classical, pop, hip hop, blues, country, punk, etc. The lead guitarist is known for applying gypsy jazz to his playing style.

    I LOVE that you went back to the guitar solo, my god Syn knows how to write a solo - when he and Matt wrap the guitar about his voice there's something transcendent about it. I've always thought that you could hear Syn's heart break in that solo.

    B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Maggie, was afraid you were going to ruin your makeup at the end. Love this song and the group. Country punk is a new one, LOL. Let me introduce to a new genre that you might not know, called Hick-hop, a country style hip hop/rap. The video of Jelly Roll {stage name} singing Same Asshole is pretty good, 35 million views. Give him a look, love me some Jelly from time to time. I did look back through a bunch of your videos and didn't find anything by Jelly or that genre.

    Two of their songs that I love, but haven't seen anybody else mention yet are 'Strength of the World' and 'Hail to the King.'
    Also, a little bit of trivia about the band's name: "Avenged Sevenfold" refers to the curse and protection God laid upon Cain after he murdered his brother Able.

    I'm so sad that I hadn't subscribed by this point and am just now seeing it... This song is VERY emotional, but with every yin, there is a yang. While they were sad that he passed, they were still angry with him as anyone is when they lose someone to substance abuse... The "yang" would be "Nightmare," which is also a tribute to The Rev. It's the angry side...and they don't hold back. It's a stark contrast from this one. Definitely a lot heavier, but his drums are a prominent fixture in the music video. He was an amazing drummer and probably the best musician in the band (wrote most of their music). I'm sure Syn might disagree, but he was the heart and soul of the band at that point. I hope you check the song out. I'd love to see your reaction and thoughts on it.

    Synister Gates is the guitarist. Thats his signature Schecter model. They all play Schecter. The bassist also has a signature model i own. Phenomenal bass. Solid ass band. For real. Theyve been together since middle school. Very sad. Jimmy was not only an awesome unique drummer. But a great person. Theyre all very good guys. Ive met Matt once. The lead singer. Hes very much a family man i met his wife too. Very nice people

    I enjoyed your reaction to this song I haven't heard it a lot yet so you brought out good reactions to this song. Yes, I did notice that country twang in there more especially after you called it out, it worked so well, their bro James would be proud of such a tribute. I loved that guitar solo too, and that marching drum felt like they love him enough to let him go, he has a new journey. Yes, it is such sweet sorrow Maggie, a smiley face with a tear from his eye.
