This song started as a 'bad relationship' song, and when the Slipknot bassist Paul Gray passed away Taylor dedicated the song in his remembrance. So this acoustic version is basically Taylor singing it to his now-gone friend.
There's a bit more to it, Corey was hesitant about releasing the song, but Paul pushed him to put it on the record. Snuff is also the last piece of Paul's music that was released before his death.

This song is doubly heartbreaking. There's the obvious literal meaning of the song, about Corey's divorce, but it's also a song Corey didn't write for Slipknot. The Bassist Paul Grey championed it, bringing it to the rest of the band and convincing everyone that it should be a Slipknot track. Paul died in 2010 at 38 years old. Not only does this song have the weight of the personal history behind the lyrics, but also memories of his lost friend. Gotta be tough to perform.

Find it slightly ironic that she's telling a singer with arguably the largest vocal range in music that he is slightly 'flat in pitch'. It's a song about his dead friend, if she's going to critique an obviously emotional performance then she should understand the background first.
Corey has an 5 to 5-1/2 octave range(depending who you ask). Dude can belt like an angel and scream like a demon... when he falls a little flat, that's serious emotion coming out.... also his damaged vocal cords from his early slipknot days.

The words are difficult to understood unless one listens numerous times, preferably with a copy of the lyrics at hand. The processing and low volume of the voice track certainly does not help, submerging those lyrics well below the music. The video version further distracts from the meaning of the words, which is subtle and unless one can hear them clearly, the impact is muddled or even lost. But that is just my opinion, You are entitled to yours,

This song is a huge fan-favorite. It was so out of character for a Slipknot song that it almost didn't get released on the album. Once it came out it was an instant hit and became one of their most popular songs ever. I am in a break up right now (day 41 of no contact) and this song hits me harder than it ever did. He bares his soul in this song and I know I am not alone in my grief. 💔
Corey Taylor- Snuff is amazing, you can feel Corey's raw feeling of sadness and sorrow in him. Corey's voice brings a hollow feeling out of him. I would call this his masterpiece for himself because he let his dark feel come out of the pit of his soul to the bright light of the day.🤓 🎶
"Corey, who hurt you?!" I just watched The Therapist that he did. I think the more complete answer is: A Lotta Folks. I've been a fan of his music for half my life, but as someone who now works as a counselor, watching that illuminated a Lot about what he did through Slipknot, artistically and personally. Thanks for being brave enough to scream and sing your pain and rage into the world, Corey. You let a lot of other hurting kids feel less alone. Including the grown-up ones.
There's another live performance of this song like this, but he actually has to stop singing because he breaks down in tears, so the crowd keeps singing for him.
The info page was wrong. The band Slipknot came first in which he is one of the founding members, and he joined Stone Sour to replace the lead voclist. Year were correct to my knowledge but they had the band backwards.
I'm so glad you mentioned my boy singing his heart out in the crowd because no other reactor I've seen has acknowledged him yet and he's got a set of lungs on him. The non-acoustic version has a few longer notes like that which I think is where he's getting them from (there's a bit towards the end where Corey paused before his one but CrowdMan goes right in where he expected it to be). Worth noting too (and chat might have pointed this out outside of the part cut down for 'tubes but) Corey wrote the song and was quite nervous to bring it to the band because it's a very personal song, and it's also a lot softer than some of Slipknot's generally heavy vibe. The bassist, Paul Gray, was really instrumental to pressing him to go ahead with it. Since then though Paul has passed away and it adds a double-layer to the sadness because Corey's thinking both of the original meaning and of Paul - he's dedicated performances to him ("When I hear you all here singing the songs, it like he's here in the f-n room man" [paraphrased] ) and he's broken down on stage more than once. Great song, recommend listening to the non-acoustic Slipknot version too at some point. Happy reacting!

Though I've heard this version of the song no less than probably 30 or so times, I still can't listen to it without getting teary eyed. It's so emotional and the lyrics are extremely relatable. I haven't been a Slipknot fan for such a long time, but I absolutely love this song.
The reason everyone screams is because he is one of the rare singers that literally make you feel what ever sings. Seriously whether it’s metal or something else you feel it especially live. I’ve been to well over 200 concerts and still he delivers.
It was the last song he wrote/recorded with his Slipknot-brother, Paul Gray. The song was released on their All Hope is Gone disc. Paul died about 1.5-2 years later. This performance came after that which is why it's hard for him.
This song was my introduction to Slipknot, and it literally saved my life. I heard it right after my divorce was finalized and I was in an EXTREMELY dark place. These lyrics shook my core! Then I dived into their entire catalog and forever became a Maggot. I’ve seen Slipknot and Stone Sour live and Corey Taylor LOVES when the crowd sings along. Besides the powerful message of this song, he dedicates it to the late Slipknot bass player Paul Gray because Paul convinced him to put it on the album All Hope Is Gone. So whenever he plays it he thinks of Paul and of course that makes it that much more emotional.
You catch him looking up (for Paul his late bandmate) when he mentions angels, but miss the look up on "Then I could hurt you in the end". He also chokes on the "hurt" as this song is just that hard for him to sing. This song was written by him and Paul originally about his wife/ex wife but the song took on new meaning for Corey after Paul passed away. Such a powerful song.

This proformance was at a book store Corey wrote a book and this was a thank you for the fans that came to his book signing lmao he played a small venue but the setting is perfect for this melancholy piece. (He cover the opening for SpongeBob as a joke when he started the show)

Love love love the song- and, of course, the reaction. Great choice. Writing, like any art form, from personal experiences can be cathartic but really can take you down a dark journey to find that release. There is so much beauty that can come from so much pain. Here is hoping no one feels that level of pain, but if they do...hope springs eternal. Perhaps Corey needs a hideaway? A place to heal within?

I’d like to add some more context to the comment you replied to… This song began, like other have mentioned as a Slipknot song about Corey’s past with a former flame. There’s a bit more to it. This song was Slipknot’s first “ballad” as it were. They’re obviously known for their brutal musical style, so this was a big departure. Corey said during the premiere of the video to this song, that the subject of this song had weighed on him for a long time, and this was the way he could let that part of his life go. The video plays like a short movie, with lots of twist & turns, and it was a big deal. Where the meaning shifted, again like others have mentioned, is when Slipknot bassist Paul Gray passed away. During a Q&A, Corey told the audience that it was Paul that originally got behind Corey’s idea for this song, and he helped Corey “push it thru” to the rest of the band and get everyone on board. Essentially, Paul had his back, therefore Snuff took on a whole new life of its own after Paul’s passing. I hope that sheds some more light on why this song means so much to Slipknot and their fans. The acoustic version of Snuff is a tribute to Paul Gray, Slipknot Bassist, who passed away 2010 (according wikipedia), that's the reason, why the song is so heavy for Corey. Jesus... Coreys voice is so amazing. The "original" is a song by Slipknot. In the video Corey is shown without his mask for the third time.
This whole concert Live in London or Hated concert. It's a hard song because of meaning/lyrics. But in this Performance it's because of friend/brother Paul Gray who died. The crowd helps him because of connection but also to literally help Corey through it. He feeds off their Energy
This live video and Disturbed performing sound of silence on Conan are my 2 favorite live rock videos. It’s the reason why disturbed and Slipknot are my favorites. Both are both full of passion and emotion.

To add on to his heartbreak, his best friend who is also in the band and helping him finish the song died of a drug overdose so every time he sings this song there's dual heartache for him.
Corey is one of my top 3 favorite artists. I'm very particular about voices and Corey Taylors voice is by far my favorite one. I love this song and especially this performance. Thank you for checking it out. I really like Disturbeds version of The Sound Of Silence, too, but I don't really hear such a big similarity between Corey's and Davids voice. The 'HATED' sign come from the fact that Corey is extremely opinionated on everything. And he gets a lot of criticism for it. In fact, there's a popular meme in metal that is the phrase: "But what does Corey Taylor think?" Every story in the rock and metal world, some wiseass will post that in the comments.

Great reaction as ever! I do wonder if we will ever hear it live from Corey again. The two people, Paul Gray and Joey Jordison, that pushed him to write and sing it have both passed now and he already connected it to Paul Gray who he dedicated the song to as part of his remembrance. With Joey passing this year it may have even more weight for Corey now.
I didn’t see if anyone answered… Corey Taylor wrote a book “you’re making me hate you”. This tour was an acoustic tour to promote his book and that’s why hated is in the background.
Disturbed's debut Album, The Sickness was released in 2000, Slipknot's self-titled debut was released in 1999... So no, that wasn't "very David Draiman"... it was in fact pure Corey Taylor. ;) Also, if you want to see some very interesting vocal techniques by Corey... check out Slipknot's new song The Chapeltown Rag, released last friday! He does something on the chorus, that I've never heard before... I think you'll appreciate it.

The same thing happened to me to I was suffering from depression and I had someone help me out I really liked her she was with someone who treated her like dirt and I thought I was helping her while she was helping me but it ended badly we both got hurt she didn’t realize that I knew she needed more help then me but yet we both broke are hearts I saw her the other day I was down town but she didn’t recognize me or she did and she didn’t say anything

There's another live performance of this song like this, but he actually has to stop singing because he breaks down in tears, so the crowd keeps singing for him.
The info page was wrong. The band Slipknot came first in which he is one of the founding members, and he joined Stone Sour to replace the lead voclist. Year were correct to my knowledge but they had the band backwards.

I'm so glad you mentioned my boy singing his heart out in the crowd because no other reactor I've seen has acknowledged him yet and he's got a set of lungs on him. The non-acoustic version has a few longer notes like that which I think is where he's getting them from (there's a bit towards the end where Corey paused before his one but CrowdMan goes right in where he expected it to be).
Worth noting too (and chat might have pointed this out outside of the part cut down for 'tubes but) Corey wrote the song and was quite nervous to bring it to the band because it's a very personal song, and it's also a lot softer than some of Slipknot's generally heavy vibe. The bassist, Paul Gray, was really instrumental to pressing him to go ahead with it. Since then though Paul has passed away and it adds a double-layer to the sadness because Corey's thinking both of the original meaning and of Paul - he's dedicated performances to him ("When I hear you all here singing the songs, it like he's here in the f-n room man" [paraphrased] ) and he's broken down on stage more than once.
Great song, recommend listening to the non-acoustic Slipknot version too at some point. Happy reacting!

The note the audience member belts out wayyy in the back is actually part of the song originally. Fantastic ear, most never notice it on their first listen.
Though I've heard this version of the song no less than probably 30 or so times, I still can't listen to it without getting teary eyed. It's so emotional and the lyrics are extremely relatable. I haven't been a Slipknot fan for such a long time, but I absolutely love this song.

The reason everyone screams is because he is one of the rare singers that literally make you feel what ever sings. Seriously whether it’s metal or something else you feel it especially live. I’ve been to well over 200 concerts and still he delivers.
It was the last song he wrote/recorded with his Slipknot-brother, Paul Gray. The song was released on their All Hope is Gone disc. Paul died about 1.5-2 years later. This performance came after that which is why it's hard for him.

This song was my introduction to Slipknot, and it literally saved my life. I heard it right after my divorce was finalized and I was in an EXTREMELY dark place. These lyrics shook my core! Then I dived into their entire catalog and forever became a Maggot.
I’ve seen Slipknot and Stone Sour live and Corey Taylor LOVES when the crowd sings along.
Besides the powerful message of this song, he dedicates it to the late Slipknot bass player Paul Gray because Paul convinced him to put it on the album All Hope Is Gone. So whenever he plays it he thinks of Paul and of course that makes it that much more emotional.

You catch him looking up (for Paul his late bandmate) when he mentions angels, but miss the look up on "Then I could hurt you in the end". He also chokes on the "hurt" as this song is just that hard for him to sing.
This song was written by him and Paul originally about his wife/ex wife but the song took on new meaning for Corey after Paul passed away. Such a powerful song.

This proformance was at a book store Corey wrote a book and this was a thank you for the fans that came to his book signing lmao he played a small venue but the setting is perfect for this melancholy piece. (He cover the opening for SpongeBob as a joke when he started the show)

Love love love the song- and, of course, the reaction. Great choice. Writing, like any art form, from personal experiences can be cathartic but really can take you down a dark journey to find that release. There is so much beauty that can come from so much pain. Here is hoping no one feels that level of pain, but if they do...hope springs eternal. Perhaps Corey needs a hideaway? A place to heal within?

This song began, like other have mentioned as a Slipknot song about Corey’s past with a former flame.
There’s a bit more to it. This song was Slipknot’s first “ballad” as it were. They’re obviously known for their brutal musical style, so this was a big departure. Corey said during the premiere of the video to this song, that the subject of this song had weighed on him for a long time, and this was the way he could let that part of his life go. The video plays like a short movie, with lots of twist & turns, and it was a big deal.
Where the meaning shifted, again like others have mentioned, is when Slipknot bassist Paul Gray passed away. During a Q&A, Corey told the audience that it was Paul that originally got behind Corey’s idea for this song, and he helped Corey “push it thru” to the rest of the band and get everyone on board. Essentially, Paul had his back, therefore Snuff took on a whole new life of its own after Paul’s passing.
I hope that sheds some more light on why this song means so much to Slipknot and their fans.

The acoustic version of Snuff is a tribute to Paul Gray, Slipknot Bassist, who passed away 2010 (according wikipedia), that's the reason, why the song is so heavy for Corey.

This whole concert Live in London or Hated concert. It's a hard song because of meaning/lyrics. But in this Performance it's because of friend/brother Paul Gray who died. The crowd helps him because of connection but also to literally help Corey through it. He feeds off their Energy

This live video and Disturbed performing sound of silence on Conan are my 2 favorite live rock videos. It’s the reason why disturbed and Slipknot are my favorites. Both are both full of passion and emotion.

It says “Hated” because it’s on a book tour. He’s written four books I believe and goes on tour after each one. Highly recommend if you like reading.
To add on to his heartbreak, his best friend who is also in the band and helping him finish the song died of a drug overdose so every time he sings this song there's dual heartache for him.
Corey is one of my top 3 favorite artists. I'm very particular about voices and Corey Taylors voice is by far my favorite one.

I really like Disturbeds version of The Sound Of Silence, too, but I don't really hear such a big similarity between Corey's and Davids voice. But that might be, because I've been listening to Rock and Metall for 30 years and have heard so many screams, growls, raspy voices, etc.

The 'HATED' sign come from the fact that Corey is extremely opinionated on everything. And he gets a lot of criticism for it.
In fact, there's a popular meme in metal that is the phrase: "But what does Corey Taylor think?"

I do wonder if we will ever hear it live from Corey again. The two people, Paul Gray and Joey Jordison, that pushed him to write and sing it have both passed now and he already connected it to Paul Gray who he dedicated the song to as part of his remembrance. With Joey passing this year it may have even more weight for Corey now.

I didn’t see if anyone answered… Corey Taylor wrote a book “you’re making me hate you”. This tour was an acoustic tour to promote his book and that’s why hated is in the background.

The same thing happened to me to I was suffering from depression and I had someone help me out I really liked her she was with someone who treated her like dirt and I thought I was helping her while she was helping me but it ended badly we both got hurt she didn’t realize that I knew she needed more help then me but yet we both broke are hearts I saw her the other day I was down town but she didn’t recognize me or she did and she didn’t say anything
