Best reactor on RUclips, for the simple fact you can see you're genuine, genuine reaction, genuine dude and genuinely love the art of music! Great reaction as always. I love avenged sevenfold, It's nice to see other people appreciate their talent and see the underlying meaning to the music :))
Your moment of realization when you realized it was a dedication to Rev hit so hard. My most recent loss was my mom's cat. Even though he's just a "pet", he was my little brother for over half of my life. And now he's gone. The house is too quiet now.
I heard from a therapist that people often grieve pets, especially ones they had for a long time, the same way they do human family members - because they _are_ family members. I hope you're doing okay and giving yourself time to process that loss, it sounds really hard to come to terms with
My eyes filled with tears when you said "It's about the drummer". I had the privilege of seeing A7X support Iron Maiden at Twickenham stadium 2008. RIP "REV" :(
@@hazardgaminghg122 I was there primarily to see Maiden but I was already becoming a big A7X fan. Steve Harris's daughter Lauren opened, then followed Within Temptation. Sadly the stadium was still filling up when A7X took to the stage mid evening but they put on a killer performance. It was a wonderful day, that like the late/great Jimmy Sullivan, i'll never forget. Kudos.
Dude your not alone.... this song has brought thousands of grown men to tears. I am one of them. Just taking this song at face value as a tribute to the rev is enough to make you get emotional. But if you got shit in your personal life that you can apply the lyrics too...... man..... between the part where shadows opens up with the vocals and then when synester does his solo and into the last verse....... it gets me every fucking time. And I've listened to it countless times! I'm just getting into this reaction craze but right now your my favorite one by far!!
That last part I can't watch the video without shedding some tears . It's so depressing man . I felt the pain from the very part . Just the flashbacks gave me flashbacks of my life , and can't imagine if any of my friends would die that young etc . The Rev , wish he was still alive man. One of the greatest drummers. As a drummer myself I just loved the way the rev grooved on his kit . One of a kind
Syn’s guitar cried! That solo man gets me every time 😥. Lyrics of the song Fiction start running in my head every time I hear something about Rev and I feel physical pain in my heart..Still don’t know how Avenged was able to accept this sad reality 😢 foREVer🙏🏻
Man when you realized it was about the REV passing away I wanted to give you a hug. This is such a sad but beautiful song. Love you're reactions man. Keep it up!
RIP the greatest drummer of all time. The Rev was the original drummer of Avenged Sevenfold, he had an enlarged heart and had much pain and was told he would most likely die before the age of 30. He passed away December 28th 2009, the last song he wrote is called Fiction, he wrote it by himself, handed it to the band 3 days before his death, on christmas eve. He was found dead in his home. Please react to it next to get a feeling. You’ve only reacted to their stuff after The Revs passing. He is on all the album until Nightmare, even tho he did a lot of demos to Nightmare. Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater went in and recorded the record for Avenged Sevenfold duo to The Revs passing. Arin Ilejay was the drummer of Hail to the King, and Brooks Wackerman is the current drummer, drumming The Stage. Also to note Diamond in the Rough is an album full of unreleased songs, so you hear The Rev, Mike and Arin on the tracks. RIP The Rev, my idol❤️
That was a beautiful reaction my man. Most people don't even put all of that together the first time around. That was special to watch a true heartfelt reaction like that bro.
This is probably the most genuine reaction ive ever seen of this song/video simply amazing fiction is the last song the rev wrote before his death you should give it a listen its very sad
RIP REV, Rest easy king. I love that they made a song about the childhood of the band and how his death impacted the band. They will never be the same without him.
my father passed some years ago, he loved avenged sevenfold. I listen to this regularly and it always brings me back to a better place. It’s so nice to see someone actually listen and feel what they are saying, the raw emotion you show is beautiful

Great reaction it's probably one of if not my favorite reaction to this song. Thank you
this song always put a tear in my eye. as an LEO i've lost some good friends in really shitty situations .... it's painful, but at the same time it brings back so much nice memories thank you for so genuine reaction, this song means a lot to so many people
I first stumbled upon A7x in 2008 while I was in school. I would get on the computers in class and listen to Pandora till it was time to go. When I heard my first A7x song (Afterlife I believe), I was immediately hooked on everything they did. That being said, when I learned about the drummers passing it literally tore me to pieces even though I hadn’t known about them for very long. This song every time I hear it tears me down no matter what I’m doing.
fun fact: the rev (the drummer) has an incurable heart condition (enlarged heart) and was told that he might live until 30. he actually wrote a song called "fiction" 3 days before he passed away, in the lyrics he wrote "promise me you'll never feel afraid" like a message for the rest of the band. and in this song "so far away", they said "sleep tight, i'm not afraid" in respond to the lyrics the rev wrote for them, their way of saying "its okay brother, rest in peace, we promise we're not going to feel afraid". 😭
The story of the Album ‘Nightmare’, is that, The Rev died during the writing process of it. Many of the songs there were written by him, and the band finished the rest of the record with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre) as their drummer. The entire Nightmare Album is dedicated to The Rev, and pretty much every single song there is about him, and about the guys dealing with their best friend being.. gone. The Guitar player, Synyster Gates, met The Rev around age 13, and they almost immediately became best friends. RIP, Rev
Syn, the lead guitarist wrote the song including the lyrics and I agree with another commenter here that you can tell and it does sound like the guitar is crying. It's a sad song but somehow comforting too because we all go through things like this at least we know we're not alone. Great reactions man, thank you for doing this and being genuine.
I'm struggling with the fact I lost my step mom and my grandma (to complications of Altzhiemers in 2009)to Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The only two bands that have helped me that have helped me through were Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour i have certain songs that help me remember who they were and what their Characteristics were. I will say its tough. Especially when you feel like you've lost not only a family member but a best friend who's supposed to help you figure out life and take journeys. Fiction from Avenged Sevenfold and Zzyx Road from Stone Sour have really helped me through a lot.
Syn's custom schecter guitar fretboard has SYN inlayed on it but you can see here in this video it has REV showing tribute to The Rev their original drummer. Even Johnny's guitar strap says FOREVER.. RIP Rev 🙏😭
The the Rev was more than just a drummer. He was their close friend and had the biggest heart. He still influenced the band after his passing, you can hear it in many of their songs. When he died the band didn't know what they were going to do afterwards but decided to finish the Nightmare album and made sure he still had a presence in it while also changing it up a bit lyrically to be about him. The Rev wasn't their for the final recording but he played a huge roll in that album. He wrote lyrics and the they used some of his vocals from the demos. Mike Portnoy played the drums on the final recording but based it off the what The Rev had in the demos. The Rev had a unique style and brought a lot of creativity to the band. You can still hear his influence in their latest music, especially their last song they put out "Dose" which intended to be a part of The Stage album but was released afterward. I recommend trying Dose or one of their songs live from Warped Tour in back in 2003. A7X has changed so much over the years while also keeping their own sound and it's alway so good!
Awesome review Alex . So damn emotional song for "The Rev " but so well done the video also . No matter how many times I watch it I still get very emotional with this one . When I see Jimmy and wishing he was still with us . That's why I say " to always pray to him . pray to all those we've lost . Sorry you didn't know it was for "The Rev " ..
The rev was one of the best drummers in my eyes and also had an amazing personality. Definitely one of my idols😪 another song is wrong side of heaven by five finger death punch, if you think this song’s emotional that song makes me cry just like this one, I highly suggest it
@@halo3odst908 Same here. Got into A7X when Portnoy helped out. Worked my way baxk in time. But still Nightmare is my favorite album. It has this melancholy to it than really gets me.

You probably already have a ton of A7x songs lined up already, but I gotta suggest this anyways. “GOD HATES US” is the song on the album after this one. Shows the other side of their emotions. I’d highly recommend it
Your no the only one dude. Everytime it get to the part when is shows the clips of Jimmy i also get hit in the feels. As im sure everyone who is a fan of this band does.

the guitar solo with archive footage of THE REV is the most emotionnal guitar solo that i never listen. The guitar crying. Amazing song and emotionnal masterpiece.
Rock music is derived from life experiences, either good or bad, happiness and pain. It was sad to see the Rev pass, but this album was a product of that pain they all had to go through. It was also cool to see Jimmy’s (Rev) idol, Mike Portnoy, fill in on the drums for the recording of the album. I also feel that Mike helped them with healing, and keeping them focused. He added a progressive sound to this album. Especially Save Me. Personally, I like them with a tad of prog influence. Hopefully in the next album, they will get back to more of a “Nightmare” album style. Keep rocking the reactions 🤘
This song always brings a lump to my throat. Taken far too soon, I always wonder how A7X would sound today if Jimmy was still with us. Really heartfelt reaction too.
I started watching you today and I’m hooked. I’ve been a huge Metallica fan since the mid 80s and fell into these guys a few years back. They are now right up there with Metallica in my book. And if I wasn’t already enjoying your reactions -I noticed you are obviously a Vikings fan-one of my favorite shows. You’re now on my list to watch regularly man!
How in the fuck can u make a guitar have emotions the passion A7X has is unsurpassable deepest song and video in the whole RIP Jimmy... The Rev for life man
Watching this on the one year anniversary of the passing of a dear friend of mine. She died suddenly in her sleep of suspected epilepsy complications, while 6-7months pregnant. Nothing can prepare you for losing someone you hold dear.... it’s the worst pain one can experience.
I found this Alex which describes what happened to Jimmy The Rev " Sullivan the drummer here of A7X The story of Fiction (A little pre-context - in the band’s last performance with The Rev (Sonisphere August 2009), it is clearly noticeable that The Rev has gained weight. Depression? Maybe.) So on December 25, 2009, The Rev went up to M.Shadows (lead vocalist) and handed him a CD with the Fiction demo on it, which was originally titled “Death.” The Rev handed him the CD and said “I feel like I’ve given you guys everything I can on this album. I don’t know what else you guys have, but I’ve given you guys everything.” Three days later, The Rev is found dead in his home. The Fiction version he gave him was a demo - which means it’s just a general sound of the song’s direction and usually contains mumbled sounds and no lyrics. The Rev recorded himself “singing,” playing an electric drum kit, and played the organ. Mysteriously, the vocals you hear on the official Fiction song done by The Rev are the actual demo words he said. This is why there is speculation around the song, because even though he was not really supposed to be saying anything, he chose to sing lyrics about moving on after death. Again, this song was titled “Death.” The band wanted to give a tribute to The Rev so they isolated the vocals from the demo and used them on the official version. They later changed the name from “Death” to “Fiction,” which was a nickname for The Rev and what he had tattooed down his stomach. They finished writing the lyrics to it, had their fill in at the time Mike Portnoy play the drum parts, and had M.Shadows sing the verses. Jessi Collins also appears in the song, being the voice between the final chorus and The Rev’s final verse. The original story of The Rev’s death goes that he was hungover from a friend’s wedding reception and took pain killers to ease the headaches. He then went to sleep; a sleep which would turn eternal. He had too much alcohol left in his system, and the reaction with the medication caused an overdose. In an interview concerning whether or not he thought The Rev committed suicide, M.Shadows said that he is not ruling it out. But that the last time he saw The Rev was December 26, where he was playing the piano and laughing with friends and family. Edit: The last time anyone saw Jimmy was at a wedding reception, the night before he passed away. Matt’s wife has the last picture of Jimmy - sitting at a piano, surrounded by his loved ones. Also, in a 2010 interview, Synyster Gates is adamant that The Rev knew what he was doing. He said “He planned it all, that crazy fuck. Knew he was gonna be gone by 30.”
You should react to fiction by A7X.... the rev wrote it 3 days before he died. It was originally called “death” but they change it to fiction because he had the word fiction tattooed down his chest
I wish you could had listened more to their older stuff before watching this, that way it would have been more meaningful. Beautiful song, sad song. More avenged please!!! edit: nevermind, I just saw the blocked videos, didn't know that

I'm so sorry for your loss, be strong and stay safe
@@AlexNChannel thank you 🙏. God bless and stay safe as well.
I found this Alex which describes what happened to Jimmy The Rev " Sullivan the drummer here of A7X
The story of Fiction
(A little pre-context - in the band’s last performance with The Rev (Sonisphere August 2009), it is clearly noticeable that The Rev has gained weight. Depression? Maybe.)
So on December 25, 2009, The Rev went up to M.Shadows (lead vocalist) and handed him a CD with the Fiction demo on it, which was originally titled “Death.” The Rev handed him the CD and said “I feel like I’ve given you guys everything I can on this album.
