When I mounted my spot Hogg father Hogg eventually decided to cite in a sight tape I did it using my top pin instead of my bottom pin. I could only get enough clearance for 70 yards and I was really just judging it. You should’ve seen my mouth dropped open when you took the arrow and turned it around to check the clearance. I was like duh
Man I can’t believe it’ll only get down to 80ish. At 30” and 70# I don’t run out of clearance with a 522 grain arrow until 140 yards. Coming out of the bow about 273-274 FPS
I’m shooting a Mathews Triax 28” axel to axel. 70ish lbs 29” draw. Black Eagle Zombie Slayer 440 grain arrow 3 blazer vanes. CBE engage hybrid 3 pins. My 20 pin is about center, and 40 pin sits a bit below it. I run out of clearance around 95 yards or so. If I worked on my anchor and lowered my pins in the housing, I could go beyond 100. But that wouldn’t be practical come hunting season.
Shoot 60# @ 28” with a speed of 239 fps and run a #38 on my 3 pin Axcel Landslyde. I can get out to 65 yards before clearance issues. That is all I need.
I have a MBG 4 pin slider and a axcel single pin and I have them sighted in to 120 with room still left on the slider. Also have 34” draw and 80 lbs. 521 grain arrow
Are you floating your bottom pin? I shoot a 4 pin sight and my 4th pin is 50y. My tape starts at 50 and goes to 100. I have no problems with housing clearance.
I shoot a 5 pin spot hog fast eddie, 28" 72# 460 gr arrow at 282 fps on a matthews vertix and don't have clearance issues untill I get to 110 yards. Maybe having a shorter DL and shorter sight bar makes the pin gap less? Not sure.
I shoot a 95 yard pin with a 65lb v3 27 27.5 inch draw. With a 568 grain arrow. Sight is a black gold mountain lite 3 pin. My sight tape is the 263 FPS tape. It’s very achievable.
26.5 dl, 70 IBS, 440 grain arrow, black gold 5 pin slider, I can get to 110, BUT, I have to float my anchor to get sight, peep and string in the right spot..
So on the subject of sights,, should you put your bow sight up or down in a hard case? I’ve only been shooting for three years and didn’t know it was a thing. It looks like less stress on the sight when it’s up. I need a new case so I saw some videos where people were pulling them out of the case with their sight down..🤷♂️
I've always put mine down. But for soft cases it doesn't matter all that much. Hard cases you're putting it upright most of the time anyways so I wouldn't sweat it either way.
My spouse bought me the 5-pin version of the Engage sight this spring. It will be interesting to see what distance I can achieve for the sake of long-range practice. Thank you for the honest commentary on sliding sights and the limitations brought on by clearance issues and common arrow speeds. Thanks again.
Speaking of pin placement, I set my bottom pin(40yds in my case) as far down as it will go. This forces me to pay more attention to my level, and since I have hybrid slider it's even more critical at 50-60yds.
Same here. I burry it right on top of my bubble and then sight in the whole housing to that so I can use that as my slider and get the max distance from it. It also opens up the rest of the sight above my 20yd pin
Gotta buy a house that fits my budget! But I still have hundreds of thousands of public land acres within a 30 minute drive of home. So it's not all that bad. :)
Shooting up to 120 yards with a single pin slider. 70 lb Omen, 28" draw, 365 grain arrow. Not an average setup. I set the bow up specifically for long range shooting. I agree with everything you presented. Nice job.
No, not at all. Getting the bow perfectly tuned is essential. I shoot 4 different PSE bows at 70 lbs with the same arrows. I have large fixed blades hitting the same point of aim as my field points up to 343 FPS.
Hey, thanks for keeping it real. I get 3D shoots and the desire to test your personal limits and the limits of your gear. At the end of the day, if you are a hunter, keep your shots within reasonable and ethical distances. Practice at those same distances with your hunting setup. Then, simply enjoy the outdoors. God bless and keep em coming!!
I have a truo 1 pin Range Rover it’s very accurate out to 50 yards. I’ll never shoot a deer that far. I have the exact same hat could I send it for a autograph increase the value 😉
Love your honesty and how you keep it real for the normal Joe Schmo archer. I would love to see a real video of some of these you tube stars shooting even 60 yards with a real grouping and no video editing, just 3 arrows at 60 and nothing else. Keep the awesome content coming!!

Oh I can probably fudge some pins some more to get to 100! But I wanted it to be setup as a "typical rig" for the expectation part.
He also has his sight extension bar fully extended out, that spreads the scale out too.
I run my 6” dovetail 1-2 spots from the end as well

I turn the arrow over and shoot cock down when I’m shooting 100 and i have the exact same sight on a sight tape number 7 with a 400 grain arrow
Came to this video to see if I could achieve 100yards with a relatively slow hunting bow I will be using at TAC this year lol
What is that wire running down your sight to the riser?
Sight light. Illumapin model.
I have a MBG 4 pin slider and a axcel single pin and I have them sighted in to 120 with room still left on the slider. Also have 34” draw and 80 lbs. 521 grain arrow
Woah you have a 34” draw length? I did not know that was possible

Having more pins in the housing that are lower down, shooting a faster bow, and 12# more will really help!
Great video! I just got glasses and it is messing me all up! Any tips?

I use an HHA tetra Max. After 80 yards I have to shoot cock vein down because of arrow clearance.
26.5 dl, 70 IBS, 440 grain arrow, black gold 5 pin slider, I can get to 110, BUT, I have to float my anchor to get sight, peep and string in the right spot..
Ahhhh, final piece of the puzzle no one likes to talk about! The anchor....
Shooting a hand held or a wrist strap?
I have a hha tetra , on my prime centergy 78lbs 30inch draw chronograph on my 650 grain arrow was 265 and I was maxed out at 65-70

Are you going to the TAC at Seven Springs?
I am not. With how teaching and family life is with the pandemic it's just not feasible to travel until the academic year is over.
@@averagejackarchery that sucks! This’ll be my second time there.
Good info and great vid, per usual. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Do you still use/like the EZ-V sight?
Yup! Check out my FB and Instagram to see my recent shooting with it actually.

I wish I’d gotten the 5 pin. I love my 3 pin, but having a couple more pins would help me stretch out my range.
How do you sight in the cbe tape without shooting 30yrd then 60yrd and measuring?is there another way only shooting at 40yrd?
you can chrono your bow and pick one based on speed
You have to either have a superb chrono or trial and error 40 and out.
Use blank tape, shoot 20 and 40, mark on tape and match those marks with printed tape.
Black gold gives you 2 index marks so you can use your 20yd pin and your 40yd pin
I wish the sight tapes went to 120
560gn arrow at 29.5 draw 100 is easily achievable
Archers advantage, make your own
For hunting deer bear I never shoot past 35yrds because of penetration or wounding the animal gotta be responsible respect the game

@@averagejackarchery sounds right backwards from here. City houses nearly double in cost, but mostly because of the land
put the housing closer to the grip .
Feathers, nock down
How’d you know I have a hybrid sight on its way to me in the mail right now?!
Super relevant and awesome as usual.
Thanks!

"Debbit Downer".... name change time. Average Debbie Archery
Very clear and concise explanation, well done.

I really like the vids brother you and Jeff from WHS are of the realest people on here keep up the good work
Thank you! Jeff is definitely in a different class of his own, but I'll happily be lumped into it!!!
Would love to do a full bow and arrow set up with your knowledge

Haha..haaaa...we're trying to sight in 20 & 30yds. Either Way excellent Archery Vlog. I need to look into easier, more user friendly sights.
But Dudley shoot 150yds all the time while he's cooking on his Traeger.......
Dudley isn't human. But whatever he is, he's dang good at archery.
He gains 50 yards with $220.00 archery range pants.

Please forgive my email address my wife said it up as a joke and I just went with it
Why do hunters Obsessed with long range? Why not shoot real hunting distances!?
100 yards is easily achieved. I have a spot hog Hogg it 7 fixed pin attached to a hoyt carbon spyder. 100 yards all day...
