More than likely Hayden and the Seraphim were the same. He knew the slayer's rage against the demons and his insane willpower when the slayer first appeared to their realm. So when the slayer and the night sentinels were lost during their last attack, he set his plans into motion. He choose a parallel world that has humans in it and were about to face a power crisis. This will give him the reason and resources to open a portal to hell to find him. Note that he personally went to retrieve the slayers prison and was willing to sacrifice his entire crew for it.
The tinfoil in this entire comment section is harder than a Praetor suit, polished to a fine shine too.

I have this theory that Samuel Hayden is actually the Seraphim, disguised as a human scientist. He seems to be knowing too much about the Sentinels, Urdak and Hell
Phoo Yeah It’s not actually as far fetched as it seems, you are right on him knowing a lot (especially with Urdak as he himself says that no human, Night Sentinel, or demon has ever been in Urdak yet he knows a lot about it.) but there’s a lot of other hints as well.
He is able to interface with the Fortress of Doom almost instantaneously despite never having been in it (note that the Fortress of Doom is said be a joint creation between the Night Sentinels and the Makyrs).He also tells you to take Vega to Urdak who is then revealed to be the Father (or at least have his Essence) and in the codex entry for Urdak, it revealed that the Essence of the Father was stolen by none other than the Seraphim. The disappearance of the Seraphim after bestowing the Slayer his power could be him going to Earth and taking on a disguise, that disguise being Director Samuel Hayden. Even the voice of the Seraphim and Hayden are pretty similar, with the only differences being that the Seraphim’s voice is deeper and Hayden’s voice is much more synthesized (though this is mostly due to him being a brain in a robot body). The last one is probably the most obvious, and that is the Seraphim’s name, Samur Makyr.
Tl;dr there are many hints to the Seraphim and Samuel Hayden being the same person and it is implied as such. So I think your theory is pretty spot on. Edit: Fixed a typo.

@Samuel Phan I think his original plan was to find and bring back the Slayer, but without the promise of resolving the energy crisis, he would never get the resources and manpower he needed. And he possibly knew that demon attack on Earth is unavoidable as humans would sooner or later discover Agent energy on their own but without releasing the Slayer they would be doomed.
There is also a possibility that he wants to contest the current status quo by uplifting the human race and directing them against the other Makyrs and Slayer was his plan B in a case something goes wrong.
@@blackknightpraetor1667 One other thing that seals the deal is when Hayden says that the whole soul extracting thing to maintain the Maykr race could have been avoided with different "leadership". The Maykr facility voice also welcomes the Slayer as "Seraphim" when he arrives at the ritual in Urdak, which could propose that it sensed Samuel's conscious. Not to mention a relief in Sentinel architecture which shows a strange looking Maykr in robes holding the Demon Crucible, and yet Hayden knows how to use this Crucible...
Samuel Phan You bring up a lot of good points, the Samuel = Seraphim theory does seem likely but as you said it doesn’t really explain much for his motives during Doom 2016. Though Kamil Szadkowski does bring up potential reasons of why he acted like he did in 2016, but if you want to remain skeptical then go ahead, nothing is set in stone and it is just a theory after all.

I personally imagine that, unlike in the game, our armor is caked in years of dried-up demon blood and guts, to the point we look like a demon-exterminating god fresh from the latest kill. They're not necessarily making way out of respect, they just see you covered in the gore of more dead demons than any of them have ever seen in their lifetimes and think "...I'm going to leave this one to the expert..."

I mean, this game has a really strong theme of religion - Makyrs just represent either the church or angels/gods and those always assume that everything under the sun is their property.
All in all, it worked out in the end right? Can't call it a betrayal if the betrayer saves the day later. We'll call it happy little sacrifices. And now knowing Hayden is the Seraphim, it was done for the greater good which we can clearly see later.
I like the fact that In doom 2016 and doom eternal both Doctor Hayden and the Seraphim said exactly the same thing. "It's a gift. Take it, It will give you strength, help you on your journey."

In the lore bits you can find it is said that the civilization of Urdak lost their founding Father's Essense to a Seraphim thief, and after that the Khan Maykr rose to power.
The "Seraphim thief" is most likely Samuel Hyden, the hooded figure that granted the future Slayer his inhuman power and also stole the essense of the Father.
In the original game it is said that VEGA was created by Samuel after finding the Argent energy, and he needed the whole complex to support his calculative power. Pretty insane technology, huh?
The "founding Father" is most likely an AI, powered and housed by the Urdak's Argent energy source. Hyden stole him, repurposed him for the Earth's needs on Mars and had to pioneer the Argent energy discovery to humans himself to power VEGA.
Could be a refererance to "The Son, The Father and the Holy Ghost", which would make Hayden the Holy Ghost and the Slayer the Son, which could match up with Hayden talking about Two Titans meeting and fighting, that could be a reference to the Biblical Endtimes, where the Son of God and the Son of Satan apparantly have to duke it out for the fate of the world.
But that´s just a theory. A (hastely and poorly researshed) GAME THEORY

@Boa-Noah I really hope that theres a third game in this doom bethesda series to make it a trilogy. In doom 2016 you deal with the spider mastermind, in 2020 you go to a higher power and kill the makyrs and icon of sin, and in the final game that hasnt even been started yet you discover and defeat the dark lord and all of the demons you said were that powerful, since doomslayer seems to be divine or godly in some way
@Boa-Noah Samuel is absolutly that hooded figure in doom eternal, the one that puts you in that yellow glowing thing to give you strength and you can see the tenticles, like the makyrs under his robes. Its the same voice. He also says "under different leadership these would have not occured" when talking about the kahn makyr and the pure argent energy. I think its definite that samuel hayden was or still is extremely powerful and is waiting to do something in the next game. They just need to explain doomguys divine power more cause to the general population he's just a human in a suit killing gods. I wasn't sure about all of that sentinal prime stuff like I didn't understand how he got there, what it was, and how he gained soverignty there. Its just really interesting. What would be awesome would be a crucible sword fight, hayden with the demonic crucible in his true form, not robot form, and doomguy with the new crucible after the dark lord and father are dead.

Love how when Hayden transfers himself to the Fortress's mainframe that he gets right to the point once done instead of doing what he did in the previous, make a half-assed apology about what happened. He still tells you that you can't do things that you go onto to do anyways, though.

@@thepope2412 Exactly! The game gives you little clues all through the campaign. At the ARC tower where Samuels remains were, the other scientist say they couldn't access his mainframe. Saying "It's all Alien". How is that possible when Samuel was supposed to be a human scientist with human technology?Also how was he able to link with the systems so easily in the fortress of Doom? Unless he was never truly human in the first place.

@@OnlysKidswillremember the doom slayer is the og doom guy, as far as I understand the lore, he spend some time from dimention to dimention until he ended with sentinels,in a way he's very alien to them and, since he likely doesn't really do anything that is not ripping and tearing, that's why samuel wouldn't "understand his motives", also this are very advanced races, that seraphim most likely just jumped into that robotic body, either due to some terrible event, or just because it's easier to pass as human if you're a high tech robot than a floating octopus
This game kind of set up Samuel Hayden as the next villain because they admired it that Samuel's design is like the fortress. That means that his body was likely created by the Khan Mayker too. And now that she is dead and Hayden has the fortress, he can do a lot of damage and betrayal.
Actually Hayden is revealed to be the seraphim the person who stole god (now vega) and created a new one (doom guy/slayer) when vega asked if he is the father and Samuel doesn’t answer it confirms that vega is the father (god) that’s why he needed so much power on mars and so little at the fortress of doom and that’s why Samuel and vega are so easy at using night sentinel and mayker technology as Samuel Hayden is a mayker is disguise while vega is god the creator of the maykers

He lead a desperate counterattack against the Super Gore Nest in Central Europe, but Gargoyles destroyed their air support, and the ground forces got annihilated. They found Hayden fucked up, and extracted his chassis to the ARC complex where you find him. It's in one of the "Story of Earth" codex chapters.
Julian Marco if Hayden is the villain i WILL cry. VEGA is my favorite character but Hayden is a close competitor. He’s the only person in the universe that can genuinely say “I was right and you were wrong” to the slayer lmao

Actually it’s because the Khan mayker could never kill the doom slayer since he is the new god (because of Hayden aka the seraphim) after the old one (vega) was returned so the maykers had no control over the facility since god (vega) had returned

Hifezael El the Father is part of God’s matrix style consciousness and is needed to make a Maykr every 10k years; Each maykr has every previous one’s unified consciousness, but The Father disappeared somehow and the Seraphim somehow reincarnated as Samuel.
