This game is different but in a good way I think the things they changed was for the better in all honesty. I went in playing like it was the 2016 DOOM and I screwed my self up.
@@SekiberiusWelkesh I kinda like that it's a bit more bright. 2016 was all red and dark colors and just generally dark. The environment feels a lot more varied and just less annoying to look at from level to level.
I think people will come around to it more (not that the reception is bad) once they shake the "This is just prettier 2016, right?" mentality. 2016 was fun, but it was REALLY easy. This game actually has some decent challenge to it, especially if you're opting to ignore the new systems, a la the chainsaw serving a completely different role because of 1 fuel always returning on a cooldown, or how we have a constant means of regening armour via the belch, etc.
Gameranx: hey here’s some stuff doom doesn’t tell you- Me, after finishing the whole game, collecting every single album, toy, masteries, secrets ect within 2 days of the games release: ah yes. I agree
That was the case in 2016. When you’re running low on ammo, sometimes the demons will give you a tiny bit. Not in Eternal. You have to rely in ammo pickups and your chainsaw solely.
I feel like DOOM 2016 was too easy. DOOM Eternal on the other hand really makes you think and limits your resources so you can't just spam with one weapon through the whole level. So it's slot more challenging, at least that's my experience with playing both games.
I agree as well, although I played eternal first, on console... so maybe I just got used to that, and then playing 2016 on pc was easier relatively? I'm not entirely sure. also quickswapping is super broken in 2016 lmao
It doesn’t tell you the story. You just start in the middle of it and can’t help thinking how you ended up in this game after the events if the previous one!
Yep and i knew right away whats going on, BUT, thats a game design flaw not everybody reads comics, they could have done little story summary like iE yakuza 6 where u can read up how u got there or a cutscene to get ppl up to date
@@TheAciditty This is the first I've heard of a comic with actual cannon info, can you point me towards it? I played 2016 but I obviously don't know how we got from that ending to here, since I've never read these comics.
Chrono strike is aight, but the other two are weird picks. You get so many extra lives on most modes that being saved at 1HP isn't that big of a deal unless you die a LOT, and the extended stagger is, uh... ...*laughs in never taking off cryo bombs* Also, I can't imagine not using Blood Fueled. It's not even an optimal thing (though it's that as well), it's just a VERY fun rune.
Here's a little oddball tip, the new gibbing/damage system is really good if you're sort of stuck on what to prioritize after finding some chainsaw fodder. Besides looking really cool, the gibbing system helps show you, the player, that you've already laid into an enemy. So whenever you get side tracked on refilling armor, health, or ammo you should find that one Hell Knight or other large enemy and finish them off first before damaging something more taxing like an arachnatron for example. Most of the enemies, killing them the "right" way uses a lot of ammo. Like 2 precision rounds on the homunculus is already 12 rounds. You could have used those to finish off the pre-damaged enemy.
At the end of the day the game does tell you these things but by god its still entertaining and no one else is putting out these quality videos so people shouldn't care and appreciate it. Just my two cents.
"Doom Eternal has extra lives! Not even the original Doom was this old school!" I just dove into Doom Eternal tonight, what a way to burn the midnight oil in my COVID-19 bunker
I’m on what, the second level and only just managing to juggle everything that’s being thrown at me. But so far, every time I die it’s clearly because I’ve screwed up, like I forgot that tentacle pit was there or I missed the Arachnotron’s turret with my power shot.
A tip a lot of people don’t even know. You can chainsaw the tentacles before they even attack you for 1 bar of gas. So it’s a much easier way instead of spamming your rockets in its general direction
nukeman1303 Regular shotgun for tentacles and fodder enemies. Remember to shoot directly centre mass as it comes up. Also, gets a bit unfair with ol Axey boy, he doesn't even obey his own rules.
@@rH0und Oh geez, don't waste your gas on the tentacles :O Shotgun or assault rifle will do just fine, once you learn to react to them. I even flinched when the first ones suddenly burst out of the ground, but you learn to expect them pretty quick and it just becomes a reflex to shoot them before they get the chance to hit you.
Super Shotgun generally works wonders when dealing with tentacles if you want to hit them before they hit you (assuming your reflexes are fast enough, that is). I find the regular shotgun doesn't quite do enough damage to one-shot them. Then again, I beat the game on Ultraviolence, so maybe the combat shotgun does OHKO them on Hurt Me Plenty.
Ok so one SUPER IMPORTANT thing about the slayer gates. After you complete them wait until the shrine you entered in explodes to collect the key. I ran by two of the keys and had to repeat the levels again which kinda sucked

@@nintendomain4956 it does tell you the weakspot of enemies, in cases of bosses tells you how to counter them. It's already more then what most games do. Apart from that it's a question of play style and there's no clear cut answare for that
Overall, I’m enjoying this much less than Doom 2016 currently. Really kind of hating 3 things about this game at the moment: 1) Always feeling very low on ammo especially with certain weapons like the full auto shotgun mod. Yes, I understand, they want me to chainsaw enemies. 2) Enemies feeling very bullet spongy unless you use their weaknesses and even then...Makes my weapons and character feel very weak. Especially when low on ammo 3) All those dang borderline mandatory tutorial/codex pop ups. If you’ve made a game so complicated and a narrative so sparse, I need to check those menus to remember the weak points/right weapon to use, or who these secondary characters are and what are their motivations (King Novik, The betrayer, etc.) Brings the action to a complete halt.
They took player data from Doom 2016 and noticed how players just used one or two weapons and used the chainsaw rarely. Players just riddled enemies with guns like their playing a bullet hell. So, they push the players to make you use of all your arsenal by giving every weapon some significance. That may seem like they are restricting your freedom but they marketed it by saying its a combat puzzle. Most puzzles have a particular way to go about it. But I agree about the constant tutorial pop ups. They are annoying and they even tell you how to beat a boss. Thankfully, they can be switched off. And you don't need to halt the game to read the codex entries. Just read them when your in the fortress of doom. And the narrative is somewhat good even without the codex.
For me, I've maxed out my ammo, mastered the super shotgun, hook towards some poor bastard and chainsaw them instead of shooting, this gives you health, armor, and ammo on top of one less demon prowling around. You get enough ammo to splurge out to last you till the next pip of chainsaw and you also have grenades and flame belch as a back up.
The disappearing platform sounds a lot like an anti-piracy security, I took inspiration from Mirror's Edge "walk" bug and started putting that sort of behaviour in software for clients because they have been abusing our licenses, they change the whole license check but end up with a specific behaviour that when they call to report it, we're just like : reinstall the software and buy a lisence this time. xD
So the platforms he was reffering to are platforms that fall out of the sky if you stand on them to long. They eventually come back up. This is an intended game mechanic
2 things, you have a almost infinite ammo source which replenishes before you run low again, and the disappearing platform thing could be a bug, but the part you were playing on is where the platforms fall into the lava on purpose if you are on to long , encouraging more and faster movement.
There is literally infinite ammo, just chainsaw when needed. Beat nightmare, 0 ammo issues. Use the combat loop and don’t just look for ammo drops on the ground, create them. If you are using weakpoints and the correct weapon for the correct enemy, you should have 0 ammo issues. Best suit upgrade is the 3 point exploration and the dash refreshes more quickly. Chrono strike and stagger is best runes.
There is less ammo because in this game the chainsaw recharges over time and pickups are more common so you should have your chainsaw whenever in need. Unless you used 3 charges on a hell night by accident. Which isn't that bad tbh.
I seriously didn't think I would enjoy this game so much! It's brutal and fast and it has a certain rhythm to it that is just so exhilarating. It's a really special game.
REALLY enjoying this game, better than the first one in my opinion. Wasn't a fan of all the colours in the HUD but was pleased to see that you can change it - now settled with the nice plain orange/red style that I think fits well. Even edited all the RGB in my PC/keyboard/mouse to match... that's sad I know haha but it looks great. Couldn't be happier. Actually, I could, I could be 'working' from home right now but unfortunately I haven't been sent home yet.
Aw man you showed a snippet from the Doom book cover didn't you? I loved that book series, it was visceral and gory and great! I gotta scour my shelves and find it again. Good video!
I kinda think they went a little too far in limiting ammo. I get why they did it, but I frequently found myself with NO ammo. Not even chainsaw ammo. It got frustrating after a while
Exploration is the last thing you need to upgrade on your suit. There isn't a single secret in the game you cannot find without them. Those are the least useful upgrades. Green cracks in walls are mission/objectives/progression points whatever you might like to call them, non glowing cracks are the "secrets".
The way the ammo thing should really be thought about is that you just swap between weapons in between chainsaw attacks. Your first level chainsaw refills on a cooldown like grenades or flame belch. Chainsawing a demon gives you a ton of ammo for all your weapons. Just run around using whatever you want (except for BFG & Unmaykr) and when you're really wishing you had that one weapon back, go chainsaw an imp. Rinse and repeat. It's a great mechanic.
Yep definitely less ammo! Used to run out frequently with 2016. Now I'm always out. Love the chainsaw flamethrower freeze combo to max out armor health and ammo
Everybody said “play on ultraviolence” - so I did. I think I only got about 2-3 hours into the campaign but I feel my skill isn’t progressing fast enough to keep up with the insanity that’s being thrown at me.
Why does everyone seem to hate on the remote detonation of the rocketlauncher? You can literally hit enemies behind cover/walls as well as pinkys weakpoints. Also im not sure if the game tells you this or not but you can go back to previous levels and get extra lives there. They respawn so stack up if you really want to. (This obviously doesnt work on UNM)
I feel like I complained 3 or 4 times about how slowly he talks and how I have to bump up the speed 1 or 2 notches and they listened. Auto-speed up! It's 1 less step for me. XD
upgrade the super shotgun ASAP when you get it as well as master the movement tool that is the meat hook. Being able to zip around, get armor from lighting demons on fire, and blasting away most demons with that super shotty is very very helpful the further into the game you go. That with the flame belch will keep your armor up almost at all times if you play smart.
I am only clicking on this video to pre like it because I like you guys, I'm installing Doom E right now, I don't want any spoilers so please don't hate me Jake falcon and the other guy... I'm sorry I will watch this post demon slaying and 420 playing
If you're playing on console, the game lets you full customize your controller layout. Switch between X and L1 or A and LB so you can jump and turn at the same time. Super helpful.
Does nobody else care that the story from doom 2016 is almost completely absent here? How did doom slayer get out of hell? Where did the fortress of doom come from? Who are the hell priests? Does ANYONE know the answers to these questions?
Frosty Film Watcher well 1. Doom Slayer is a badass who could probably have figured out SOME way how to get back from Hell and 2. there was that old teleporter tech at the Kadinger Sanctum end where Samuel found the cursed sarcophagus.
Ok going for secrets for your first praetor suit points is honestly the worst, spend it on the upgrades that refill your dash a lot more, then go to the ones that help with your ice bomb and grenade
By the way, there is the "happy birthday" easter egg in the level at 10:10. Its a little bit before the part shown in the video. You have to search the ground (yes the lava) for the Easter egg. (Tipp: if u dash u won't lose that much health and there are a couple of save spots "in the lava")
Things I do NOT like about Doom Eternal: (Or frustrate me). (1- 10 + bonus). 1) Invisible walls, which limits gameplay and speed runs. Especially when you go through a level again. 2) Going through a level AGAIN because you missed something is greatly annoying, you have to wait till the end for the Fast Travel which is only good then and doesn't carry over, even if you beat the level prior. A better option would let you play through the option traditionally or in freemode to finish collecting.without being forced into fights you've already fought before. Makes it seem like a choir. 3) getting ammo, but only for the BFG 9000, easiest way but challenging is to go the last mission available and farm them, but takes forever. Would have been nice if you could quit the game and go back in with full ammo. 4) Absence of a personal space, too many annoying demons perform melee attacks. When your focus is on a bigger and more threatening target, the little demons will scratch at your legs and take will eat up your health quickly. Unless you are moving fast, the demons that spit acid have a good but deadly aim. 5) Length of game, actually seems short. Even if it is a "forced" linear game. Once you finished campaign and finish the collectathon, multiplayer isn't all that interesting to keep playing . So plan on playing then putting it on the shelf for another dust collector. 6). Weapon wheel. Can be over cumbersome. Especially for a newb player. Doesn't slow down enough, and when changing weapons so much because of a small ammo pool, it can get annoying. Letting demons get free hits in because you have to take a split second to change weapons in a game where speed is key. 7) not enough in game dialogue, but alot of reading. Well i do like lore and i do like music while fighting. As it is right now, ill skip reading the lore because it will take away from the fight and theres no music while reading so it will takes you out bbn of the game. A better option would have an optional audible narrator to read through it while you fight. 8) the collection of gathered items. Almost everything you pick up is scattered around you hub world / ship, so you have to find it each time you want to look at something.Wish there was just a submenu which you could view it all at once, and it would've been even better if there was an ingame music player so you could listen to the music records you found along the way. 9) constant spawning of minion / small demons. The game won't tell you this, but the minions / small demons will keep coming until you destroy the bigger demons. Took me awhile to realize this. So finish off the bigger demons first and dont waste to much time on the small fry unless you are gathering resources. 10) there are times when enemies dont become staggered. It isnt the much of an issue, but when you need to finish a handful of challenges that require the enemy to be staggered, it can get annoying quickly. Even forcing you to replay the mission at times. 11 (bonus). Until the DLCs release. The seasonal event unlockables don't seem to be worth it. And unless you play multiplayer, you will have to replay missions over and over to farm ExP for the unlockables. The grind doesnt seem worthwhile as even Call Of Duty has better and attractive unlockables in their season tier lists.
@CH1M3RA582 nah its good, what matters not how long, but if it ever gets acknowledged whether thats that same day, or years to come, sorry if I gave this too much something lmao
wait a minute... Green suit for campaign... Red and blue for multiplayer... Futuristic super space soldiers... Sci-fi weapons... AND enemies exploding into confetti? Yep this is the new Halo. If you can't notice the similarities you're blind/deaf.
I'm going to blow your mind, colored suits were a thing as far back as Doom 2. The Red multiplayer suit, sci-fi weapons, super space soldiers, Halo copied it all.
Collectibles appear on your map when you are near them and stay marked. You unlock fast travel when you beat the level. Jump around the map, don't upgrade the exploration until everything else. Upgrade your suit to nullify exploding barrels and to get ammo from said barrels first
Slayer gates aren’t that difficult, sure I shit my pants when a doom hunter and baron of hell showed up in i think the 2nd or 3rd one but I got them all done first try
I do want to add if you want to farm weapon masteries you can go to the prison at the fortress, it wont let you die and you aren't wasting ammo on a level. ALSO you're chainsaw refills (in the campaign not just the prison), only to the first bar and you have to get gas cans after ward but it helps in higher levels and tough fights

For #6, if you have to go back to a mission for a slayer gate, as soon as you get the item you want, you can hit esc, then choose return to campaign. it will alert you that you will save what you have earned but abandon the mission. This game is different but in a good way I think the things they changed was for the better in all honesty. I went in playing like it was the 2016 DOOM and I screwed my self up.
it's missing that dark vibe 2016 had, but overall it's gameplay is much better.
Sekiberius Welkesh - Eternal is definitely less moody like ‘16 and more in spirit with the first 2 classic Doom games. It’s more tongue and cheek.
Same lol

Does the chainsaw give health? I’ve tried a couple times but I’m not sure if chainsaws give health or that I’m walking over health packs
mutantmonkey100 chainsaw gives ammo
That was the case in 2016. When you’re running low on ammo, sometimes the demons will give you a tiny bit. Not in Eternal. You have to rely in ammo pickups and your chainsaw solely.
I feel like DOOM 2016 was too easy. DOOM Eternal on the other hand really makes you think and limits your resources so you can't just spam with one weapon through the whole level. So it's slot more challenging, at least that's my experience with playing both games.
I don’t like to say it, but I agree, DOOM 2016 felt more easy compared to DOOM Eternal.

2:21 the doom slayer playing with the toy is a really cute touch.

The game only gets harder, but never really unfair

The gameplay is different from 2016 but the more you played it the more it gets fast paced and better.
@Alex A It's as intricate as a survival game with hunger meters. It's fucking annoying.
The how to play the game has change a lot since this. Also is crazy this man record, edit and upload this video in the game launch, well done dude
GET THE FASTER DASH RECHARGE UPGRADE. changed everything for me during combat
RUNE?
Aaaah this game! Perfect timing with the quarantine!
ItsNziak indeed

Did this man just say doom 2016 was a reboot when in Doom eternal they confirmed its the same guy from doom 1 to doom 64!
There is less ammo because in this game the chainsaw recharges over time and pickups are more common so you should have your chainsaw whenever in need. Unless you used 3 charges on a hell night by accident. Which isn't that bad tbh.
The game tells you every single one of these.

It got frustrating after a while
Practice makes perfect
Yeah it's got a rythym game mixed in there , a combat focused game with a lack of ammo is a driving game with no Cars
This just means you have a skill issue. Seriously. You're not meant to run out of chainsaw ammo constantly. Just switch up, it's not that hard.
Man i want this so bad. Your videos make me wanna play this game so much haha, money situations bad rn but i love your videoes. Keep it up! :D

upgrade the super shotgun ASAP when you get it as well as master the movement tool that is the meat hook. Great beginner guide i jus stated this on ps subscription. This is nice. Now i will go back and play the older ones.super fun!
Things I do NOT like about Doom Eternal:
(Or frustrate me).
