Well, the slayer is literally too angry to die, so in order to make the game immersive, they have to fill you with rage as well. That's what the demon design and the soundtrack are all about, making you angry as fuck. If you;re not angry while playing doom, there;s no point to it really.
That's the demon side. Human side is doomslayer as all pawns with shotgun, Queen doomslayer with ssg, king slayer with crucible, rooks doomslayer with rocket launchers, knights slayer with ballista, bishops slayer with sniped mod heavys. Did I miss any?

@@EhmAmATANK Yup serious. I have no problem keeping him at range, but once he spawns that damn dog it completely throws the rhythm off and I need to switch to the cannon to avoid wasting shells or Balista ammo on him.
@@Ulysses1994XF04 So I only found this out recently, but if u shoot his shield, he is much more likely to summon that dam pup. Try it out next time (after learning about that I rarely face the dogs anymore)
Here’s the trick for the marauder. You don’t actually keep him at mid range. Go to long range, dodge any energy things he throws, bait out his flynt lockwood esque run, and then the eyes flash attack is guaranteed when he closes the gap. Bonus points if you dash around him and shoot him in the back with ssg or ballista to stunlock him to death. The remote detonate mod or any other splash damage is great too. Nightmare forces you to experiment.

@@nintySW Isn't that true for, like, fricking life itself. People won't appreciate your good deeds but they'll jump on every opportunity to criticize your bad deeds. He also assured that they still worked hard on refining the arena gameplay even further. The first step to getting better is to admit you have a problem. Works for a lot of subjects.

@Faeleficent Assuming Hugo didn't just slip up, I think you're right, he was probably referring to that demon as the first female hell-originated demon. The Spider Mastermind wasn't spawned in hell through... "normal" means. Don't ask me how demons are created in the first place in hell, haha.
It really is incredible how refined and tight the gameplay loop is in Eternal vs. 2016. Every weapon and ability has a purpose, every enemy a distinct piece on the chess board. Everything connects and flows in a way that I've never seen in a first-person shooter. It makes a potentially hoary franchise like Doom feel as fresh as it did in the '90s, and just as maddeningly addictive. I truly don't know how Martin and co. will top Eternal for any future sequels. They made a diamond.
Most of the time, I like slow-paced story games, and if I’m playing a hard-ish game which has a good story I’ll play on the lowest difficulty because gameplay isn’t my main focus. With Doom, nahhhh I always start on normal and work my way up. It’s the one FPS game series I legitimately put effort into
Darth Sidious has been stated several times throughout continuity to be the most powerful dark side using mortal in the history of the Galaxy and for good reason. He could destroy entire planets or entire fleets with the wave of his hand, shake planets and stars light years away using telekinesis, turn people to ash using purple force lightning, mind control people across the galaxy, teleport people or entire fleets across the galaxy, transfer his soul into other people's bodies, tear the soul out of people, survive without a body for long periods of time, escape Chaos (Star Wars version of Hell/Purgatory) nearly a dozen times, and fly massively faster than the speed of light while in spirit form.
The AI / ENEMIES and combat in this game is so well done its seriously impressive. They actually feel intelligent like you're going against actual demons and the fact that each enemy has their own weakness and strategies per stage (if they have stages) makes it all the more impressive. I imagine it couldn't have been easy so big props to the developers.
I love his attitude towards engaging the player and making us have fun. It’s not just about giving the player a challenge, it’s about engaging them and pushing them to try new things whilst keeping them in the zone and having fun.
"We tune that thing to be Crazy" "We want you to hate that thing" Holy shit, that thing was deliberate!? Ok the DOOM dev is officially my second favourite dev team
I love this kind of game design and hope more developers follow it, don’t be afraid to make something the player will hate and push them to get rid of it ASAP. Eternal is such a gem, you control the flow of the combat as much as the demons do
They say whiplash was the first female demon but wasn't the spider mastermind a female as well as the summoner form doom 2016 and technically the final boss from doom 3 was a mother or queen of sorts so that claim is a complete lie or plan stupidity.
@@patrickdonovan5554 Hey there are very few females throughout the franchise so it was probably just an oversight. Or he's talking about the first female the eternal team worked on
Doom Eternal is GOTY in everything. Music, environment, gameplay, AI, feeling of guns, the challenge, the platform, the lore, SLAYER and his bad ass personality, the demons, the ancient cities, and so much more amazing moments. Good job for the team. Cant wait for DLC's, challenges and play this game more.
The only thing i miss from Doom2016 is how he picked up the weapons from dead Corpses etc, i still dont care for the solid green weapon pickups but thats just me, Doom Eternal is still better than Doom 2016. Gotta give ID credit..you know u did great when ur sequel is better than the first aint many games can pull that off.
Yes, Eternal is an awesome improvement over 2016 and I love this game. Have more than 500 hours on it now. Having said that, I still miss some of the artistic choices 2016 made. I miss the death animations of 2016 which would actually show the demons ripping you apart, those small demon introduction scenes, the dark disturbing atmosphere which was present in Eternal's E3 but not the final game and first person cutscenes. I don't have any problems with cutscenes nor do I hate 3rd person cutscenes but 1st person cutscenes just feel more badass. At the end of the day, this is just my opinion, people may or may not agree with it
Technically, the spider master mind is non binary, because in doom 2016, olivia is sacrificed, summoning the mastermind, not making her the mastermind, as for 1993, it isnt confirmed whether its M or F Edit: I forgot about the summoner, while the summoner is technically Female, it is also non binary because, well, "NO DEMON TITTIES"
It's so funny how Hugo keeps saying "we're not afraid to frustrate the player" but the entire time I've been playing on UV it's not at all frustrating, it's super fun to learn the new steps of the dance.
Tw1st3dG4m3r doom is not a game for you by the sounds of it, or a lower difficulty would have been preferable, unlike doom 2016 I like the fact the demons do there best to kill you only for you to squash there efforts, like busting a nut in a guys girl then taking off the condom an pouring the contents all over his head
@Tw1st3dG4m3r Thing is, if "some casual" just wants to enjoy some demon killing there are the easier difficulties for that. That thing about "owning to oneself" and whatnot is bull. Just play whatever difficulty suits you.
10:59 I dont know how many players noticed but the whiplash uses its whips to climb to high places I was literally in awe when I first saw it climbing the ledges in super gore nest
This video confirms that they knew what they wanted, they knew how they wanted and and they knew how to achieve all of this. This is what every company and dev should make video games
It's crazy how they understand perfectly what makes a video game fun, and I'm not saying this to undermine any other studios making shooters, but ID just understands just what you're looking for as a player and what your breaking points are so you're always on the edge of giving your maximum effort but not so much that you get frustrated. It's a tight rope to walk and they walk it perfectly.
@@loaduscoolclipz5505 Given the name of the demon I interpreted it as robes not a dress, and robes are unisex typically speaking. It being support only doesn't mean anything to me, personally, again because it's name implies it. It's a fragile unit that relies on other units to do it's damage, evasion would be necessary, and it's design reflects it's weaknesses and it's strengths, not it's gender.
Not to mention, the Cacodemon/Pain Elemental. In the old games the Cacodemon/Pain Elemental had not one but two extremely suggestive orifices on its backside. One of which, that is definitely female 😏😂.
“From a design perspective, he’s elusive” Suddenly it makes total sense. The Archvile always seems to not be doing much and standing still, so it’s hard to spot him because he kind of blends in. He also loves to almost intentionally hide from the player, like in a hard to reach or out of sight spot.
I learned this in the hard way in the Super Gore nest master level, the final arena just spawns like 3 or 4 of them and it feels like a death hide and seek game, they just LOVE to teleport away and, as you say, the way they remain stationary makes them hard to notice since, at that point you’re always going full speed flying through the air. Tbh the archviles are one of the best demons designed, he’s elusive yet you instantly know they’re present on the field because of… Well you know, he makes other demons shine red and that’s never a good thing
@@CMONCMON007 i love both the style of q1 and q2. considering the demonic nature of doom, i would suspect reboot of q2 is more likely to happen. well made strogg would kick ass tbh. ofcourse the mood of quake 1 is still something id like somewhere in the industry.

*Laughs in H-DOOM*
H-DOOM?
Hugo: "The Whiplash is our first female demon."
The Spider Mastermind and Summoner: (cough cough) Sure...
Technically, the spider master mind is non binary, because in doom 2016, olivia is sacrificed, summoning the mastermind, not making her the mastermind, as for 1993, it isnt confirmed whether its M or F
Edit: I forgot about the summoner, while the summoner is technically Female, it is also non binary because, well, "NO DEMON TITTIES"
@@Mrorgrama The Mastermind is also referred to as the Aranea Imperatrix, which is feminine.
Also mother demon
@@TrueAnts1 Oh shit I forgot
It's so funny how Hugo keeps saying "we're not afraid to frustrate the player" but the entire time I've been playing on UV it's not at all frustrating, it's super fun to learn the new steps of the dance.
@Tw1st3dG4m3r You should stock up on "good".
He’s right tho. Get gud an there will be fun to be had
Tw1st3dG4m3r I think it’s too late for that from what I’ve read in comment sections
@Tw1st3dG4m3r Thing is, if "some casual" just wants to enjoy some demon killing there are the easier difficulties for that. That thing about "owning to oneself" and whatnot is bull. Just play whatever difficulty suits you.
"so, we made a doomslayerslayer"
I call him:
-Walmart Toy Doom Slayer
-Chinese Knockoff Doom Slayer
-Chaos Killer
“Whiplash is our first female demon”
I thought the summoner was female
Summoner isnt female.
That tells everything about hugo martin mental capabilities.
Quartz uh oh
Ȟᴇċĸȧĸŷʜ Âɡᴇĸʙȧᴛᴇʜ going after a mans mental capabilities over not remembering if a demon from doom 2016 was female, wow makes sense bud.
Baby Blue Name checks out

I dont know how many players noticed but the whiplash uses its whips to climb to high places
I was literally in awe when I first saw it climbing the ledges in super gore nest
Great detail lol
The Mancubus also have a nice animation when climbing ledges, they use their cannons as if they were rockets.
@@bonelesschickennuggets1868 ok now thats some detailing Great job id
@@bonelesschickennuggets1868 but when you play as him you just grab the ledge with your cannons and lift yourself up somehow lol
"The Doom Dance"
That's.... a really good was a putting it.
Even since the old days, strafing to dodge Caco and Baron fireballs.
As a creature designer, I love these types of videos.
Just a guess:
You design/write SCPs?
@@pale7606 I think so
Dr bright? wait imma check the rules. idk if u are allowed to write here
Hugo: "She's our first female demon"
Rule34 artists: 😎
Okay so I wasn't the only one thinking it
I mean, HDoom is a thing...
The summoner has a feminine pp confirmed
Oh no.
Eyes Of A Puppet summoner is a trap
This video confirms that they knew what they wanted, they knew how they wanted and and they knew how to achieve all of this. This is what every company and dev should make video games
Hugo looks like someone just being constantly high on developing Doom.
its called passion.
High on passion
This "doom dance" philosophy has secured my pre order. I have no doubt that eternal will be bigger and better than 2016
It's crazy how they understand perfectly what makes a video game fun, and I'm not saying this to undermine any other studios making shooters, but ID just understands just what you're looking for as a player and what your breaking points are so you're always on the edge of giving your maximum effort but not so much that you get frustrated. It's a tight rope to walk and they walk it perfectly.

Alien Gender Community: that Doom dude should glory kill that Demon with dignity & care!!
It's crazy how you guys have become THE documentarians for the gaming industries in just a few years.
Let's hope they throw some more anti-Russia political jokes in there. Everybody loves politics in their game devs!
HM: "Whiplash - She is our first female demon."
The Summoner and the Spidermastermind: "Am I a joke to you?"
This just confirmed that they aren't female.
The summoner never felt feminine to me. Very masculine facial features.
@@alwaysneutral2100 although it does have a dress like body shape, kinda dances around the stage and is only there for support
“From a design perspective, he’s elusive”
Suddenly it makes total sense.
11:02 I can't believe they added a Japanese porn star into the game
Hahaha😂😂😂
Burn
I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going...
And that's why the slayer has a shoulder mounted flamethrower

I am secretly hoping Hugo Martin will start work on a new Quake reboot next.
I would love that. World needs more Quake especially in the style of the first one.
yeah I would love that
@@CMONCMON007 i love both the style of q1 and q2. considering the demonic nature of doom, i would suspect reboot of q2 is more likely to happen. well made strogg would kick ass tbh. ofcourse the mood of quake 1 is still something id like somewhere in the industry.
@@fartloudYT We already have a second Quake 2, it's called Quake 4, let's see some "real" Quake next please.
CMONCMON007 nah quake 2 style ❤️
I love how he always praises his team, or says 'we'.
He's not like some devs who take 100% of the credit.

“We wanted as many characters as possible to return, I think we got all of them.”
*sad heavy noises*
14:32 this mans really just pulled out a Necron destroyer lord huh.
I like them pulling in more of the Doom 3ish mechanical Demons, and this one just gives me good vibes of the Cyborg Demons from Doom 3, along with some good Quake 4 vibes
They pulled a Krang in 1993, lmao.
I think more of a between lord and heavy destroyer , still I don't know what I am supposed to think about it ...
Nuh no... No of course not! It's the Slayer hunter!
