I love the parallel of arranged marriage in this movie. Fergus and Elanor (parents) were an arranged marriage and Elanor was not happy about it, at all. But they worked out and she loves her husband dearly and he loves his wife enough to AVENGE her as his immediate reaction after thinking she was dead. That's why Elanor was 'shocked' when Merida was strongly against it, forgetting how she felt and instead turned to lecturing her on what she believed to be best. Merida isn't against marriage. She just wants time to find herself and love being herself, she ISNT READY FOR SUCH A BIG STEP. That's why finding her own love in her own time was so important to her. Maybe one day, but not NOW.
The problem with letting her be is that she’s not an ordinary girl. She’s a princess, which means there’s a lot of expectations on how she has to act and behave around her people and allies or potential allies. If she makes a poor impression, how can her people have confidence in her ability to govern them? At least, that’s how it would be for them. Monarchies don’t have really have the luxury of being true to themselves. Not unless they’re willing to pay the price for it. Everything has a consequence with them.
Pretty much back then a ruler married for the kingdom, lived for the kingdom, had their actions good or bad reflect on the kingdom. It ended happily as its a disney film but her shooting for her own hand could have resulted in the kingdom torn apart by civil war as the clans fight amongst each other.
@@liamwarner5749Well we kind of did see that as the clans were ready to declare war because of Merida's actions. And its actually noble that Merida herself admits that, after having some time to reflect during her journey, that it really was her fault that the clans almost fell into war. And she was even willing to go through the marriage if it meant undoing the damage. Whether its marrying Young Lord Dingwall since he originally won or do the competitions all over again who knows. It was Elinor who convinced her to propose 'ending the betrothals'. So that's something.
You guys are always so consistent when it comes to Movie Mondays, I know it's hard to balance life and youtube, but y'all are killin' it great job guys❤👍🏿
Merida destroying a tapestry that takes forever to make made by her mother but feeling betrayed when her mother throws her bow in the fire is so ironic to me
It really is the height of teen drama though lol. "I'll say and do things that hurt you, but you're the mom, so my feelings are deeply hurt if you throw back the same'
@Ben l'hyène/the hyena it will never be the same though, it can be mended or completely redone but it's not the same. I agree though definitely teen drama😂
I'm not saying Merida was right for what she did but she is a child and the mom is an adult. A child acting immature makes sense but as an adult it's her job to do better.
@Fun4U I agree completely, unfortunately people still have moments especially the mom who has been keeping her emotions locked up for a very long time outbursts are bound to happen
As someone who does embroidery as a hobby I can understand Eleanors anger at the tapestry being split by that sword. That's likely THOUSANDS of hours of hard-work, focus, thread sorting, needle threading and pricked fingers just to get it where it is now.
I always love watching this movie with my mom because it makes me realize just how much I’m grateful to have a mom like her. My mom is my best friend and she doesn’t expect anything from me. So glad that you guys reacted to this movie!!
I love this movie On the island where I live we have a lot of Celtic heritage and my grandparents used to work in our local museums We love watching this movie together
It's weird because the title in french is " Rebel " If you're interested, there's a short movie called " The legend of Mord'hu " where we learn how the prince became Mord'hu
@@EtanoS24 so, 4 movies, How to Train Your Dragon, Tangled, Brave and Rise of the Guardians came out within a few years of each other, from 2010-2012. As fandom does, people started to ship the main characters from each of these films together in different configurations and it became known as Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons or RotBTD.
15:07 this reminds me of what my brother did in year four for a school assembly. They had to dress in traditional clothes, and my brother chose Scotland. My dad bet my brother $50 that he wouldn’t flash his underwear to the whole school, and he did, his teacher thought she was going to lose her job from that stunt, but my brother got the money in the end
She’s an amazing TOM BOY..I use to be like that when I was a young teen. My hair though BLACK was BIG and WILD. So, I love this DISNEY MOVIE 🎥. Thank you for sharing this, taking the time out and reacting to this GREAT ANIMATION. I commend you ALL. GREAT 👍🏽 CHOICE .
I just found this channel last week, and you guys have already become one of my favorite reaction channels. I finished your full reaction to the Avatar series and realized you guys have been watching some of my favorite childhood movies as well! I look forward to seeing more reactions from you guys, keep up the good work!
Well they were cute in their own ways. And the original plan was for her to get together with Young McGuffin (guy who spoke gibberish) and we kind of see hints that out of the three, Merida liked him the most.
Love this reaction 🫶🏽 Merida is my most favorite princess ❤️ the entire storyline of this animated film was the best. I grew up around horses and had two of my own. I also have a close relationship to my mom as well, and I also understand high expectations in a sense, but maybe not as far a a princess 😅 loved this movie. 10/10 one of my favs
Great reaction guys, I really like this movie, I specially enjoy films that revolve around fraternal bonds rather then romantic ones bc I feel like sometimes the stakes are higher, you might drift apart from a lover and find a another but losing your bond with your own mother? Is not easy for anyone, but overall great video and can’t wait to see you guys react to more pixar movies
the way i see it, the ending just means that merida will have more time before she has to get married, and that she and her suitors will actually get to court and see if they will be a good match, rather than have her literally be a prize to be won
It's a happy ending because everyone grew up: The clans are in friendly terms without an immediate marriage, Merida and the queen learnt to communicate and listen to each other, from being divided and arguing, leading to a situation like the spell and having to face that danger, they can now come to a wiser and more peaceful resolution. Sometimes we don't need a huge victory, it can be a smaller one but which has effects on the length.
I'd love to see the three of you react to the movie 'Red shoes and the seven dwarves'. I think the three of you may have some hilarious responses to that one. XD
Merida not explaining what she wants with the spell is as bad as Peter Parker getting Dr Strange to do the spell in No Way Home. You have to explain all the details before performing the spell. Details matter when it comes to magic. It’s like baking if things aren’t measured correctly or right ingredient it can be a disaster.
Merida has listened to her mom this whole time and did what she was told but in the end, she decided this isn't what she wants for herself. She tried it her mom's way for as long as she could, and it wasn't for her. not the life that she wants
hey guys please react to "PLANE 2013 disney " its so good Dusty is a small-town plane who dreams of one day competing as a high-flying air racer. However, poor Dusty has two strikes against him: He's not built for racing, and he's terribly afraid of heights. To achieve his dream, Dusty turns to naval aviator Skipper. Skipper helps Dusty qualify to take on Ripslinger, the race circuit's defending champion. Dusty's courage faces the ultimate test, as he takes aim at heights he never dreamed were possible.
There's a fun theory the witch is Boo from Monsters Inc living in the past to remember monsters in the future preserving them forever as she looks for her childhood friends.
I think the mom was being unwise for her age and being controlling and wanted Merida to be perfect instead of being herself. Yet being yourself is perfect. but parents are never satisfied with their kids they always have to be someone else to get their approval. Merida was just standing up for herself and I'm glad she did at least Merida knew what she didn't want. The mom was projecting herself into Merida. I think if the mom was never controlling and didn't have any expectation on Merida none of this would have happened and just let her be instead of telling her what she can and can't do. Thats it's all been decided for her by her mom and their traditions nothing should tell you how to live your life its yours. or life may become unlivable if you're living someone else life you no longer have even your own life but it's the kids that are always bad. Never the parent's kids are always seen and not heard well most of the time.
I love how much Fergus loves his wife. He cried out for her thinking that she's dead and begged her to answer him. He even tried to avenge her.
I love the parallel of arranged marriage in this movie.
Fergus and Elanor (parents) were an arranged marriage and Elanor was not happy about it, at all. Merida fighting her father, who is considered one of the strongest, to protect her mother, is my favorite scene in this movie!
The problem with letting her be is that she’s not an ordinary girl. She’s a princess, which means there’s a lot of expectations on how she has to act and behave around her people and allies or potential allies. The way the witch slaps her hand across Merida’s face to shield her from the bright light cracks me up without fail every SINGLE time

Very hard btw 🤣🤣 But Yh we do our best … Thank You 😊
The part where she's asking for her mom back always makes me tear up 🥲
I NEVER cry at movies except this one, specifically that moment😂 Every time😣
around 39:40
Merida: SHUT IT!
Seri: Go ahead...
Seri felt attacked, lmao
Merida destroying a tapestry that takes forever to make made by her mother but feeling betrayed when her mother throws her bow in the fire is so ironic to me
It really is the height of teen drama though lol. "I'll say and do things that hurt you, but you're the mom, so my feelings are deeply hurt if you throw back the same'
Teen drama. Also I suppose that in her logic if torn it can still be sewn back. A bow, once burned, is forever destroyed
@Ben l'hyène/the hyena it will never be the same though, it can be mended or completely redone but it's not the same. I agree though definitely teen drama😂

In this case it is Scottish Gaelic and not Irish Gealic, since Merida is a Scottish princess 😉
Lots of love from Ireland ☘️😘
thanks for clarification. i always have a hard time differentiating the two, all this time i kept saying they were irish!

Them: “This has the same vibe as How to Train Your Dragon”
Me: Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons flashbacks 🙂
WHAT I THOUGHT
Can I have some context?

I’m glad Merida didn’t end up with any of the suitors. They’re hideous. And I honestly think she doesn’t need a love interest.

Keep the grind! I can see the 100k subs in 2023
To this day I never understood how the ending is “happy” they never resolved the issue that started the whole thing
