Cybersix is wild in that it even exists in the form it does at all, I did not expect the rabbit hole to go as deep as it did. Though it was funny seeing you two (especially John) lose your minds over an amount of boobage that's not actually all that crazy for adult eurocomics, which the style seems heavily based on even if it's not actually from Europe. I really appreciate the breakdown of the history of HxH between you two because I never watched Gon in 60 Seconds aside from a little bit I caught many years ago in the middle of season 3 when I had no idea what was going on or who either of you were, so I just bounced off of that real hard. But now that I do I'm actually really tempted to watch it because it sounds like a riot. You know, just one I wasn't prepared for at the time. Two things I noticed during the HxH discussion - first, it's good to realize with HxH that while Nen is involved in pretty much every conflict from this point onwards, it is not the *only* thing involved in conflicts. There's non-Nen users who can do some impressive things, and even when it's Nen vs Nen it's rarely a straight up confrontation of who can anime magic better and win. That's the fun of the series, it has its 'thing' in the form of Nen only insofar it makes sense and drives the story forwards. It's specific enough that it doesn't invalidate everything that isn't Nen. Killua's Rhythm Echo for instance is not Nen, since Killua had his aura nodes closed until Wing opened them during Heaven's Arena. That's just assassin martial arts bullshit. It's helpful to keep that in mind, because I can imagine some scenarios where you'd otherwise get confused when assuming something was done with Nen or involved Nen when it actually didn't. Secondly, there's some weird editing around the part where you're talking about Killua threatening Sadaso (the one-armed guy who threatened Zushi). You kind of got the motivations and the order of events mixed up. Which is fine, if you binge a show you're bound to forget some details, but in the edit the corresponding scenes from the anime are cut to be in the order you're recounting the story in, which is distinctly not the order they actually happened in. And that's all the same episode too, so that would've been obvious when grabbing the clips, which happen within like 5 minutes of each other. I suppose it doesn't matter too much, but all the same a 'I remembered the order of these scenes wrong lol' disclaimer wouldn't have gone amiss.
You guys are killing it with every episode, I'm glad I get to look forward to this at the end of every month. I unfortunately may have to skip half of the next episode since I'm on my own journey with Berserk (I haven't even seen Casca or Griffith yet), and I don't want to be spoiled. Really looking forward to Woolie's recommendation however >:)
17:00 I think I know what John's saying here? Like Hades' design has an identity that feels like it has been perfected by a single artistic lens (Jen Zee's) over the years. Compare that to other attractive character design types (Over Watch, Genshin Impact, etc) that feel more like they have a bit more of a design-by comittee feel. Which maybe is unfair because I do really love many of those game's character designs. Maybe to put it differently, Hades feels like the realization of an aesthetic that clearly began as someone drawing these character designs in the margin of their highschool/college text books. Whereas the others maybe came about later after deliberation and collaboration of many artistic ideas in a work environment.
Blizzard literally had a Diversity & Inclusivity points system for the Overwatch cast, so you're right on there. Pat and Woolie even talked about it on CSB. And judging by how the system pointed things, Pat was more of a minority character than Woolie.
I cannot wait to see John physically dragging himself into the next podcast episode after his perscribed experience. As for Woolie's assigned obligations, I think that you all should rank it. If you're confident nothing will ever touch it, then put it in spot 0 so we can have a real first place while also acknowledging a classic and a masterpiece
The way I made sense of Hunter X Hunter's world early on was pretty simple: It's essentially our modern day world, except that limits of human potential roughly align to those of D&D characters. You have modern-day humans walking around who are level 10, level 15, etc. and can potentially take on armies.

Fuck yeah Argentina mentioned!
Low budget? That is how telenovelas where in the 90s, that is the highest budget you gonna get!
So wholesome to see a son and father getting along like this
“The occasion is already Gon.” -Woolie putting in a hat walking out the door like he’s in a 50’s sitcom.
Good god - what does it take to make Woolie and Eyepatch watch Aeon Flux? How is it that so many people haven't seen that show? Goddamn.
My guy is dapper asf for this episode
You guys are killing it with every episode, I'm glad I get to look forward to this at the end of every month.
I unfortunately may have to skip half of the next episode since I'm on my own journey with Berserk (I haven't even seen Casca or Griffith yet), and I don't want to be spoiled. Really looking forward to Woolie's recommendation however >:)
Seeing discussions about Hunter x Hunter always makes me wanna rewatch the whole thing lol
[Looks at the thumbnail] Truly, a duel for the ages.
This podcast is an anime battle where the atacks are sent through a microphone
I cannot wait to see John physically dragging himself into the next podcast episode after his perscribed experience.
As for Woolie's assigned obligations, I think that you all should rank it. If you're confident nothing will ever touch it, then put it in spot 0 so we can have a real first place while also acknowledging a classic and a masterpiece
YOU ARE CORRECT WOOLIE I AM LOSING MY MIND
Woolie Madden STANDIN' ON BUISNESS BABY look at that suit!
The way I made sense of Hunter X Hunter's world early on was pretty simple: It's essentially our modern day world, except that limits of human potential roughly align to those of D&D characters. You have modern-day humans walking around who are level 10, level 15, etc. and can potentially take on armies.
Nen is the point where we learn what kind of class features these top-tier humans have.
(hearing John's origin story for the dozenth time) still a banger
